Is the battery life normal or is this a serious problem? - Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite Questions & Answers

I've a brand new Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite, but since a few days I notice that it seems that the battery is draining fast.
So I've done a test: I've charged my phone to 100% and used it until it turned off due to too low battery and it lasted 23 hours and 3 minutes.
But I doubt if this is normal and I'm kinda worried about it.
I've bluetooth off, and wifi is always on except when I go outside and then I use mobile data.
I use my phone for surfing, using social media, chatting, gaming, making nice pics and more.
So is the battery life normal or is this a serious problem?

is 23hr bad ? I feel like my one is always above 80% as it charges that fast I don't seem to notice the battery being low

I dunno

I haven't mentioned the standby time and the active time in the topic, and I cannot find that data anymore so that means I have to do the test again

I would advise to install AccuBattery app, fully charge the phone and look at screen off and screen on power consumption at the end of the day.
These numbers are "normal":
Screen off - no activity (over night or phone just laying down for a few hours): 0.2-0.3%/h
Screen off - the usual daily activity (moving around with the phone in the pocket, Whatsapp for web active, Google location tracking active etc.): up to 1.3%/h
Screen on - about 7-9%/h

I'll do another test on Friday as I said.
I'll charge the phone to 100% and use it until the phone turns itself off due to low battery and look at the active time then.
I'll post the results here if the test is done.

What were the results?

I'll tell it you once I've the results.

Today I've redone the test.
I charged my phone to 100% and I then I used it until it was 5%.
I got an active time of 5 hours and 27 minutes and the standby time is 18 hours and 1 minute

My phone is pretty new and I am using it more frequently these days. This leads to similar battery times like you describe them.
I did not do the exact same discharging like you did, but imo battery drains mainly during screen-on time. Over night it is quite stable and only slowly discharging.
Maybe power consumption is dominated by the LED screen? This might be the reason why Xiaomi has such an aggressive screen dimming implemented...
I think what _mysiak_ is describing above, is pretty accurate and explains what you are observing.

Unless your trying to calibrate the battery that's really stressful to the battery to use it like that.
Puts a lot of wear on it... fast.

I know that, and I used to do that all the time but when I received my new phone I changed my habits.
I'm now trying to keep my battery level between 90% and 40% or 30%.

Battery drain issue?

Hey guys,
so I recently purchased an International HTC One X and hsve loved it so far, but I think the battery is draining too fast.
On standby, it drained from 93% to 89-92% in 8 hrs which I suppose is good, but while using, it drops pretty quick. I wanna know how many hours or how much percentage does your battery decrease by while on standby or during use?
By the statistics I have provided, do u think there's anything wrong with my battery?
PS: I used the built in battery app, go to settings>power
Thanks, Id really appreciate it if u could help out since I'm worried if my newly expensively bought phone has something wrong with it or not, ill hit the thanks button

Battery drain
I'm currently on Leedroid' ROM and the behaviour is similar to what I had with the stock rom and looks like the folowing:
Data or WiFi on, autobrightness on, autosync off
Hangs a litle on 100% then dops abruptly from 98-97% to 80% in about 4-5 hrs with a screen time under 30'
from 70% to 30% however, the battery drain "magically" improves giving 6-8 hrs of standby including 2 hrs of screen time of which the most is used to browse the net via 3G.
At the moment my stats are: 13h 50' on baterry, 2h 15' screen time, 21% left
I got a steep drop from 31% to 21%, just as I was checking the stats for this message, but bare in mind this is the first run with Leedroid (flashed last evening) so I expect things to improve.
After 10-12 days on the stock rom I remember getting some 3-3.5 hrs of screen time within 16 - 18 hrs total before reaching 10%.
So i suggest, give the battery a little time to settle, then adjust your usage habits according to what you get (like turning autobrightness off, data off etc).
I for one am waiting for some stable kernel improvments regarding the tegra power mangement (sounds cool, have no idea what I'm talking about and I expect to get some 20-30% more screen time within the same time period (18-20hrs).
I've been running a few battery tests. Last night I wanted to totally burn out the battery so I used it down to about 5% and started a youtube movie streaming over wifi at full brightness. An hour later...... it finally died.
The companion core on this thing can really confuse you are testing standby time or music and video playback.
I want a mod for the phone where I can toggle it to use 1, 2, or 4 cores. To the OS, it looks like core0 is also the companion core.
Thanks

so do you think there really is something wrong with my battery?
i read on a popular android website that they played a video on mx player in loops and it lasted for 6 hrs and 6 mins, which makes like 17 percent for every hour of viewing. I downloaded mx player, gonna watch a movie, and hope the battery drain is on par
The less battery doesnt bother me much, what does is that im worried that there MAY be something wrong with my battery, gonna try out for a day or 2, gonna see if my results can match urs, thanks
just hope theres nothing wrong with my battery
PS: i have everything stock, i unlocked bootloader, flash CWM5.8.x.x but returned to stock later.

So the browsing drained about 70% of the battery right? Suppose those 11 hours of sleep took even 10%, and u have 21% left, so u spent about 70% on the browsing right? Thanks
when you charge to 100% it drops down to 95% then charges back up to stop over charging, who ever it doesn't show you the % it just says 100% thats why you can lose ~5% in a few seconds when first taking it off charge.
yesterday i got 14 hours 9% left and had just a little over 4 hours screen time on leedroid 5.1.
playing games is a massive drain

Thanks, that's what I hope to achieve. I did a factory reset, will fully charge and see how it fares tomorrow. Btw, I don't play games on battery precisely because of the massive consumption.

Battery Fix
I had a pretty serious battery issue during my first couple days with the phone, where the battery drain was extremely fast and inconsistent, sometimes dropping 5% at a time and giving me maybe 8 hours of life total.
The issue was that the battery tracking in the phone was messed up. When you go to Settings>Power, the default setting for "Fast Boot" is on. This seems to mess up the way that battery drain is tracked. I fixed the issue by turning Fast Boot off, charging up the phone to 99% (it wouldn't reach 100, that's how bad it was messed up), then restarting it. Now, it works perfectly and easily gets me through the day with moderate/heavy usage; I watched a 30 min video streaming from youtube of wifi and lost only 7%.
The downside is now the phone takes 5 seconds longer to start up .

[Q] Do I have a faulty device.?

So I had several calls yesterday for over 30 mins each..
Each time i would hear echoy sound of my voice, and i also feel like i could hear the voice coming out of the phone lol, even though the phone isnt on speaker.
I also my have a bad battery it'll go pretty low i guess. Yesterday was my first full day using it, went to work at 70% since i forgot to charge it, at noon unplugged it's at 100% came home around 9 and got 10% left. , so i got 9 hours in total, from calls. light browsing, light twitter, facebook use.. I havent even setup my work email, and i constantly get over 100+ emails a day on my account. So i know battery will go significantly
Should I wipe everything clean and see if it works.. I have 14 days to return for a new one.
also today left my house at 7:30.. it 9:50 now and already at 75%...
I think someone else on here had similar issue with having an echo when speaking into the phone. If im not mistaken they exchanged it and the new one did not have the problem. Maybe you should take it in for an exchange.
As far as battery life, well it seems to be varying from user to user. I am getting pretty good battery life, anywhere from 12-15 hours on a charge with medium use. On light use I get well over 15 hours. There are some that seem to be having poor battery life. Have you checked your battery stats? Whats your android OS % at? And what is your screen on time? Have you turned on ECO mode?

Assuming you dont have a lemon, it all depends on how you use your phone.
Do you have lots of apps with push notifications?
Or do you have lots of apps that check for new notifications every 10 minutes?
Screen brightness? Screen-on time?
What radios do you have on?
...the list goes on
On a typical day, I can get about 12 hours with moderate use (3 hrs screen on time). Close to 24 hours with light use. Mine idles pretty well (approx 1% or less battery loss per hour).
FWIW - my 'Android OS' is usually at around 50% and screen is at about 25%

You can check screen on time by going to the power saver in settings, scroll down to battery use and hit that. Then hit 'screen'

Yeah - I never turned those on or used any kind of juice defender either (thought I am on Wifi alot). I think you're fine.
Try this - fully charge your phone before you go to bed. Leave it off the charger over night. See how much your battery drops. Even with a few google accounts on push, facebook messenger push, instagram push, LG social+ and a couple of news readers that auto-update every few hours, I've seen my battery drop at most 5% over 7 hours.

Battery drops as soon as fully charged

If I have had my Note 10+ on charge all night, as soon as I disconnect it from the charger the next morning the battery drops down to 98% within the first few minutes without me using it.
It seems to last ok the rest of the day as I have around 60% left after 4h sot. I know it's not a big deal but my Mate 20 Pro would sit on 100% for the first couple of hours. It's probably just psychological, but it feels like it lasts longer when it doesn't drop so quickly.
I guess my slight OCD isn't helping which is why I always turn off the battery % in the settings so I can't see what it is, but with the Note, even if you turn it off you still see it every time you pull down the notification panel.
The battery calibration is just a bit off. My recommendation would be to ignore it.
A factory reset should reset the battery statistics.

My battery percentage is similar. By the time I get off the pot in the morning, it reads 98%, that's generally anywhere 2-15 minutes in my estimation.
Mine too, I consider it as normal, the rest of the batt lasts as expected

Battery hold from 11% to 0%

Hi all,
occasionally I see my 7 months old Pixel 3a XL can't hold battery power from 11% down. Switches off very fast, abnormally fast. Then if I power it and start it then keeps on restarting until battery level is higher than 5-6%
I use the original charger only. Sometimes it appears, some it does not and I can see it discharges as expected.
I try to keep my battery within 40-100% full and discharge it very rarely to 0%.
Anyone facing those abnormalities? Can't think of connected events - updates, etc ....
Cheers
p.s. after last night happening again, charged the phone from 0% to 86% (phone was off during charge), turned on on 86% and left over night on the shelf. Usually drains 2-3%, this morning it dropped from 86% to 62%. All connections off, nothing unusual shown in the battery usage stats...

@Skittles9823 nothing beside stock Android and apps that I've used forever. Strange is that it's occasional - also occassional is initial drain from 100% to 92%.
Maybe its time to flash it - nothing suspicious is shown in batt stats
I use the fast charger that came with it. Not sure how it affects battery life long term. I try to keep it 100% to 40% usually and not charge it if not necessary..

I think popular wisdom is that both fast charging and in particular charging to 100% are not kind to the battery's longivety. Divided opinion about the effect of discharging to low percentages. Personally I charge to between 70 and 80% unless I know I'm going to need more capacity. 3a XL has a bigish battery, which helps. I recharge most nights but only to 70-80%. End of day I usually end up between high 40's and low 30's charge.
I manually set all apps I don't actually need to run in background to 'restricted' background use.
I charge mine up to a 100% often, when using it heavy.. I never heard of charging a battery to 100% being bad for it, unless you believe everything that is told or should I say sold to you.. Sounds like a faulty battery. If still under the 1 yr usual warranty I would have it replaced. I have drained mine down to less than 20% and still never experience any issue that OP state.

Also Apple have actually introduced a feature to stop/postpone 100% charging when the phone thinks it's not required. Would be good if we had similar/more control for Android.

I'm still not sold on the idea that charging a battery to 100% is bad.. But thanks for those links.

It's actually true. Lithium Ion batters degrade over time, the speed of which, depends on the amount of battery cycles they go through (0-100% and vice versa). Others have done the research and the math and found that generally a 20% to 80% and vice versa charge seems to be the best for longevity.
Personally I charge to 100 but try to charge my phone when it gets to 20-30%.

Evidence and research is there. Of course you don't have to believe it. It's your phone, your battery, your money

So very true my phone my money. In all my years of using cell phones, I think I have actually replaced a battery once because it went bad.
Thank you all for the links and the inputs!
One more symptom - when is very low like this morning - 1% and put it in charger - phone shuts off.
I will keep the battery in 40-80% for the future and limit the drain below 40%. I tried to charge it slow with USB - took me like 6-7 hours...
How long it takes you from zero to 100% with the stock charger - looks very fast to me - 0% to 67% in 35 mins
I personally tried to research and could not find what is worse for these batteries - number of cycles (obvious less when used below 40%) or the low capacity usage ?

The included charger is a fast charger, good for headlining how fast it charges, not so great for the battery. I just use a 'standard' (Anker) USB charger.
Jury's out on if deeper discharge is bad, but it's the number of complete cycles (0-100% counting as 1). So 40 - 80% is 0.4 of a full cycle, and you're not stressing the battery so much by taking it to 100%. Many folk here replace their phones frequently enough not to be bothered by all this - if they sell it when 20% of the battery capacity's gone, that's fine.
I've observed the behaviour and few things made me question myself...one time I can see 13% battery and palying Youtube just shutdown the phone. Put it into charger and started showing 4% as initial charge.
There was another time when using Viber video shutdown in 23% but can be overheat or software bug.
I try to keep it these days above 40% charge but still use the supplied charger till I buy new slower one.

The good news is that this phone seems to be pretty easy to repair and a battery replacement could very well be a good option for you, especially since you wouldn't be compromising any water resistance or anything

Question Will OnePlus 9 pro battery life be improved with a software update?

Im planning to buy OnePlus 9 pro phone, everything in this phone is perfect for my needs except the battery life. almost all the reviews on the internet suggest that the battery life of the phone is average, and some site say it's worse than that of the oneplus 8 pro, even though both phones have roughly the same battery capacity with the oneplus 9 pro having more efficient display and processor. so do you think it will be improved soon with a software update? and for those how bought the oneplus 8 pro at lunch last year, did you experience the same issue?
It charges to 100% in under 30min...
So seriously, what is it that you do all day where you need to have your screen on for 6-7h, hard usage, without any acces to a power plug to charge it?
Are you a ranger in a Safari Park that tracks Rhino's?
Battery life isn't great, but I top it off for about 10-15 minutes late afternoon (half a charge or so) and I'm good to go. I'll keep my old 30W charger (from my 7 Pro) in my car just in case I'm ever caught with a low battery, but it doesn't seem to be an issue. I certainly welcome any improvements, though.
Usually, ota updates have battery performance improvements...
In the summer i will be moving back home where frequent blackouts are a common thing specially during the hot days, that is why im worried about battery life. and i dont like carrying power banks.
Anyway thanks guys for the replys, and hope future updates would include battery improvements.

I've upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I'm really surprised how quickly my phone has died the past few days at work. Only gets me through about 8hr of listening to podcasts, screen off before I hit 20%. I hope that something improves because I was hoping with this phone I'd be able to get through more of my day without charging.
It's astonishing to me that all the improvements to hardware and particularly power efficiency over the years have resulted in... the same SOT and battery life in general as my four old phone. Progress

They'd rather have the phone charge from 0 to 100% in about 30 minutes so that's their *solution* to the "problem".
Idle or standby battery drain is too much.. Anyone facing that? How to reduce it. My phone was charged 90% in the night. After 9 hrs standby, battery went to 67%. Thats too much battery drain

Mine drains about 5-6 % in 9 h standby. Always-on disabled. Try disabling "listen to hey google all the time", that might be the culprit.
As someone else stated earlier, my battery was horrible when I first got it for a couple of days, then without doing anything, it just got better, like a normal phone. No complaints now. That was my only gripe.
Btw a new update that ends .3.3 seems to be rolling out in India and should further improve battery life. it's great to see they're doing something, hope battery life will get even better.

Same problem here (AOD disabled).
Yeah I now have my phone for 2 days, it's a garbage battery!
It drains like close to 20% per hour of 'light usage', with low brightness only FHD......
Also it drains the battery even when it's supposed to be Idle (no AOD)!
Will probably return this ****.
