WHY THE ROG PHONE 2 IS THE BEST OVERALL PHONE RIGHT NOW ? LET'S TALK... - ASUS ROG Phone II Guides, News, & Discussion

HI EVERYONE
I'M THE CREATOR OF NUMEROUS POSTS OF ROG PHONE 2 . AFTER ALMOST TWO YEARS I REALIZE THAT THIS PHONE IS THE BEST FOR MY NEEDS . I'VE TESTED MORE THAN 50 SMARtPHONES EVEN MI 10 PRO AND THEY AMAZING JBL SPEAKERS( THIS IS THE LATEST I HAD) BUT BATTERY IS NOT AS GOOD AS ROG , SPEAKERS AREN'T VERY LOUD BUT GOOD QUALITY AND BASSES.... BUT LET'S TALK ABOUT THIS ROG WHY IS BETTER
- IT HAS VERY SOLID BUILD QUALITY. GORILLA GLASS 6 , GLASS AND METAL COMBO, 7000 SERIES ALUMINIUM( ROG PHONE 5 IS WELL COSTRUCTED BUT IT BEND MORE EASILY THAN IPHONE 6 PLUS AND IT'S UNACCETABLE FOR 899$ PHONE.
-FIRST ROG WITH 6000MAH BATTERY THAT CAN LAST UP TO 2 DAYS, EVEN 3 WITH 60 HZ AND DARK THEME!
-IT HAS 3.5MM JACK WITH EXCELLENT QUALITY AND EQ (I REALLY MISS ON ROG PHONE 3 AND MOST HIGH END SMARTPHONES)
-IT HAS PROBABLY THE LOUDEST SPEAKERS I' VE EVER HEARD WITH VERY GOOD QUALITY AND CLARITY+ OUDOOR MODE THAT BOAST TREBLE ( ROG 3 DOESN'T HAVE THIS AND ALSO QUIETER SPEAKERS WITH SIMULATED BASSES)
-IT HAS 2 STRONGER VIBEATOR MOTORS ( MOST PHONE INCLUDED ROG 3 HAS ONLY 1)
-4 WIFI ANTENNAS, 4 MICROPHONES
-FIRST 10BIT OLED HDR 120 HZ, 240HZ SAMPLING RATE DISPLAY WITH VERY GOOD DELTA ( QHD IS NOT NECESSARY UNLESS YOU USE VR, AND IT CONSUME MORE BATTERY AND LOWER THE FPS) 90HZ IS THE STANDARD BASE FOR 2020, FROM 60 YOU WILL NOTICE A DIFFERENCE. 120 IS RECCOMEDED , 144 IS ONLY FOR EXTREME GAMING AND DRAIN A LOT. BUT UI,SOCIAL,GAMES BEST IS 120 FOR EYES
-RGB LOGO. THIS IS COOL FOR NOTIFICATION, DURING NIGHT , IT'S A DISTINGUISHABLE SPEC THAT PEOPLE WILL NOTICE.
-18W CHARGING WILL DEGRADE BATTERY LOWER THAN FAST CHARGER LIKE 65W OR 120 AND MY TIP IS TO CHARGE UP TO 80%. THIS PHONE ALSO SUPPORT 30W. SINCE THE BATTERY IS 6000 MAH I RECCOMEND BOTH . BOTH ARE SAFE
-FIRST ROG WITH ALMOST STOCK ANDROID.ANDROID 9 IS LATEST ROM THAT SUPPORT ALSO GLTOOL ( FUTURE PROOF TOOL FOR GPU DRIVERS) AND ALSO ANDROID 9 HAS RW SISTEM. I RECCOMEND THIS ROM BECAUSE A10 IS NOT AS OPTIMIZED AS A9 AND IT' S HAS LOTS OF PERMISSION THAT MADE MODS, APPS NOT COMPATIBLE. BATTERY IS ALSO BETTER IN A9
-AIRTRIGGERS
-FAST UFS 3.0 STORAGE, LOTS OF RAM STORAGE, LAG FREE DEVICE. COSTANT PERFORMANCE
-2 PORTS. USB 3.1 AND 2.0 FOR CHARGING AND REVERSE CHARGING
-GOOD CAMERA EIS( WITH GCAM YOU WILL DO MUCH BETTER PHOTOS AND VERY STABLE 60FPS VIDEOS)
- VERY FAST 855+ PROCESSOR DON'T OVERHEAT AND BETTER TEMPS THAN LATEST 800 SERIES SOCs.
-BEST ROG EVER MADE FOR AESTETIC ( ORANGE ACCENTS ON THE BACK AND THE SPEAKERS, BACK COVER HAS METAL COLOR, MORE COLORFUL ACCENTS ON THE BACK AND MORE SQUARE CAMERAS AND FRAME, IT HAS MORE GAMING LOOK.
THE CONS THAT NOT AFFECT MY DECISION TO BUY AGAIN THIS PRODUCT:
-NO IP RATING, FOR NORMAL USE LIKE RAIN IS PROTECTED SINCE THERE IS NO DIRECT CONTACT TO MOTHERBOARD
-NO WIRELESS CHARGING, I DON'T NEED AND USE I PREFER 3.5 MM JACK THAN THIS..
-NO OIS FOR CAMERA , GCAM WILL FIX THIS WITH NIGHT MODE AND THEIR AMAZING SHOTS AND VIDEOS ( MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR A GAMING PHONE)
-NO DDR5 RAM OR LATEST SOC: 855 PLUS IS PROBABLY THE BEST SOC SINCE DOESN'T OVERHEAT A SINGLE DAY. IT'S MORE EFFICIENT THAN 865 OR 888. THESE OVERHEATS AS LOT OF REVIEWS. DDR4 RAM IS VERY GOOD IF YOU HAVE 8/12 GB ON A PHONE. NO DIFFERENCE IN REAL LIFE.
-NO 8K. NO NEED SINCE PANEL IS FULL HD AND YOU NEED 8K TV FOR SEE THE VIDEO RECORDED
-NO 5G. IT'S FASTER BUT DEPEND BY COUNTRY COVERAGE. THIS WILL DRAIN MORE BATTERY AND MAKE DEVICE HOT. FOR ME IS ENOUGH 4G+ SINCE IS MORE MATURE TECNOLOGY FOR MY NEEDS
-NO SD CARD( BUY 128 OR 512/1T STORAGE NO PROBLEM)
-WEIGHT( THIS IS VERY BALANCED ON ROG 2 TAKE CONSIDERATION OF THAT)
i bought again from giztop at very good price new for 459$ 8/128 gb is a lot for me and i SUGGEST as base in 2021 64gb at least, RECCOMENDED 128GB
i will modify some my post to get best possible user experience on this phone

Were thinking same

Are there xda awards for the most useless posts? I nominate yours.

Considering the dying PM 8150 chip state I would dare say it's literally impossible to argue that the rog2 is the best phone.

Now, because of this post, i will search and buy ROG phone 2 right away

Nice promotion, next time please include your optimal stock rom version.
Now I'm pondering to choose in dozens of different versions, Android 9 vs 10 vs 11...
Now, I have a vague understanding such at this:
Android 9 has best battery life but a lot of bugs, choose version carefully
Android 10 is worst
Android 11 has medium battery life, new features, a lot of incompatible apps that bring bugs like battery draining...

You are reading old irrelevant posts. And your understanding is not accurate.
11 has battery life better than 10 and the same as 9. I'm not aware of a single incompatible app with 11.

Obviously my impressions with "latest updates" are very bad.
Every time an Android device update (or being forced to), battery life always downgrade or shortened, because phone providers want you to feel sluggish, slowed, outdated, inconvenient with your devices. Then you would want to buy newer models after 3 years.
My friends all used Oppo and Samsung. First stock roms always have best battery life and smoothest experience. Then things went down until 2-3 years later, when every devices become all laggy, jittery, battery hungry.

Ok now I updated my experience so far for Android 11:
2201.211 rom: Cannot root, even if I installed Magisk 24.3 FIVE times - yes I tried so many times and ways to install root
2111.160 rom: Can root after installing Magisk 24.3.
- I then used Mantis Gamepad Pro to use PS5 controller. After 2 days it stopped recognizing inputs.
- Without Mantis Gamepad Pro, I can use PS5 controller but of course cannot map properly in-game
- Battery draining rate with Bluetooth is very fast (even when the only app opened is Mantis Gamepad Pro + Ebook reader), -80% battery in 3 hours
=> I'm back to 1910.35 for Android 9 - doubled battery saving, better performance, no Mantis Gamepad Pro bugs
Also, I need to update two bugs in Android 11:
+ It does not accept chargers from other brands, for me it's TWO different Samsung 18W charger (Android 9 accepted them normally).
+ It does not accept charging after being drained to 0%. I accidentally slept when reading ebook, making it drop from 50% to 0% during the night.
Next day, no matter what kind of charger (Oppo, Samsung, Asus), it flashed green charging circle for 0.5s then screen off. I had to charge using Asus charger for 1 hour to bring it to 1%, then held Power key to enter OS. Then it did NOT accept charging, I had to re-plug Asus charger again to make it recognize charging.

Android 11 has Accessibility bug that's not been fixed in any rom
Fake Camera app also cannot work on Android 11
Besides the better System UI and keyboard switching button - I cannot find a reason why Android 11 is better.
Android 9 consumes 5% per 30 min gameplay
Android 11 consumes 20% per 30min gameplay
This is a huge difference man.
However, Android 9 System UI would often stop working for 5-10s if I use older apps in 2018, which is a little annoying.

What's the battery life like?

Spec-wise, this phone seems great, with the glaring exception of the battery's size.
I'm hoping someone with the phone could let me know, ideally as detailed as possible, what the battery life is like. Thanks!

Initial tests mentioned a screen on time of 4h+, which is nothing to write home about.
On another hand, even though we have a "mere" 3k mAh battery & 5.7" screen, the latter is amoled, which should offer considerable savings as compared to LCD.
I'm waiting for my unit to be shipped, will do some tests & share.

This is why it is somewhat tempting to go with the $399 5.5" model and the Snapdragon 625. You lose a bit from the 5.7" SD 820: no AMOLED, smaller sensor in the camera, only 4 GB of RAM, but based on battery tests with other phones with the 625, the life could be better than the 820 model.
Review units in the U.S. are starting to appear, TechnoBuffalo recently received their 5.7" and did a quick preview on it.
FYI. PCMagazine has a review up of the 5.7", SD 820 version. They managed about 7 1/4 hours on their video run-down test. The Axon 7 with the same test ran about 6 hours, Samsung S7 Edge, around 10(!).

They panned the phone though. TechnoBuffalo loved it, but PC Mag said the camera was shoddy and the UI is absurdly intrusive.

CNet liked the regular Zenfone 3 in a recent review. Though they too, thought the Zen UI was way too heavy. Seems to be a problem with some of the imported Android phones lately.
At this point I won't get a Deluxe unless it can be rooted, which I think is likely to happen based on Zenfone 3 progress.
It's the best thing you can atheistically look at. Battery life will get you one day of strong usage. Which combined with USB type-c that's nothing to be bothered by. I'd give the overall phone a solid 8.5 out of 10.
Battery life is terrible.
The same apps I use with no issues on other devices (including other sd820) cause a severe battery drain on the z3d.
My guess is the power management policy in the HAL, framework, or issues with the scheduler on the kernel level.
Initial investigation points to communication apps (Riot, Conversations), which cause a lot of wakelocks (then again, no such issues on other devices).
Once (& if) we have a bootloader unlock, this will be one of the first topics to address in custom kernel builds or custom rom builds.
I go ten hours at work with 2 plus screen time, 30-45 minutes on phone, 3 emails syncing, Facebook, instagram, Snapchat, two phone numbers, and I leave with 50% battery.

I'm in the same boat as mostly everyone else here. I'm heavily on my phone while at work as well (roughly 6 hours of constant use on most days with heavy internet usage as well). I stay at work 2 days in a row every 3 days, and in that time frame, I still go home with 30-40% battery still left on my phone.
If I were still using my note 4, I would have had to put the phone e on the charger twice a day for both of those days.
Plus, with the dual SIM feature, I don't have to carry around a work phone. My boss was more than happy to get me a nano SIM for my pho e when he found out both my work phone and personal phone would be one in the same and easier to contact.
So yeah, with the above stated, for me, the battery life is way better than what I have put up with on the note 4 for the past 2 years.
Battery is great for me. I don't have a SIM yet but use Google hangouts/Voice# and am constantly on my phone browsing and using different apps. I charged it 7 hours ago, it has 3 hours of screen on time so far, and battery is at 57%. It says it has 9 hours left (based on my current rate, I will probably hut around 7 hours of screen on time. That is on High Performance, though also without a mobile network connected. I am constantly connected to and using wifi though and location is on too.)
Plus with QC3, my phone charges from dead to full in an hour. It is crazy fast.
Edit: Correction, I am in Power Saving mode as I guess I clicked into it when prompted last time my battery drained and forgot to switch back. Didn't notice a performance difference though so maybe I'll stick with this mode until I play a game. Next time I recharge, I will put it in High Performance and record my Screen on time then.

A couple of semi-hard questions about MMax3

Good morning
Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is certainly a top contender to be the best phone in terms of SOT.
I. Do You think MM3 SOT will be better than Redmi Note 4 (4100 mAh - small screen) and Moto E5 Plus (5000mAh also smaller screen)?
II) Did you experiance ant bugs in the sticj user interface?
III) What would you describe as pros and cons of this phone?
IV) What is your charging time when OFF from zero to 100% using box charger?
and finally do You think that's the best normal looking (not armored type) phone with the best SOT?
I. Perhaps worse, factoring in their specs (mostly screen)
II. I suppose you meant "stock". Really, no bugs except for some annoying things while using the Full Screen gestures:
when typing with a keyboard in one-handed mode it's very easy to hit the areas for the gestures, resulting in missed clicks around the edges of the screen (bottom for the home/recents gesture and sides for the back/switch app gesture).
also you might do it accidentally sometimes but I guess it's just something to get used to.
III. Pros:
Battery life is great for this phone factor
Has a headphone jack
Type-C
IR Blaster
Fast face unlock/fingerprint unlock
Comfortable yet still massive (depends on your hands)
Back camera array is pretty good and you can force camera2api with root.
Cons:
Speaker isn't the best OOB (you can tweak it with Viper though)
Front camera isn't very good
Before-mentioned gesture problems (you get used to it and learn to use it though)
Anti Rollback
IV. I can't really answer that because I don't use my device very hard so it ends up with like 60% at the end of the day if I used it more, also I don't like doing 0-100% charges as I'm anxious about wasting battery cycles, so hopefully someone can cover that instead of me.
Also the looks aren't really something that matters to me, but this phone looks really sleek to me so I guess that's a yes.
Hope I answered the things you asked ^^
1. Yes according to experience and gsmarena
2. Daily driver bug, Swiftkey keyboard resize, and perhaps a few untranslated chinese here and there. China rom 6gb 128gb model.
3. Pros: Roaming NETWORK BANDS, IR Blaster, headphone jack, batt, notchless screen, microsd
Cons: Speakers, rooting & roms, ymmv camera
4. Not sure rarely had to push it that far.. Keeping it above 60% at most times with slow charge to prolong battery longevity.
5. Energizers 16000mah phone will beat this phone.
Overall i picked this for the superior batt, near flagship roaming bands, notchless screen, plus jack and ir, all for a reasonable price.
CPU is just the right balance for lagfree use and batt efficiency. I don't game so GPU power was never what I was looking for.

You've earned your 3rd Thanks button acction!
Absolutely fantastic answer(s)!
Please help me out with these:
1. Very few people understand how important for the phone's ergonomics is the activation of letters, functions or gestures using the "holding hand". It can drive the user nuts.
You know your stuff very well bro.
2. Do You think the 1. will appear also when using 2 hands?
3. I never use use gestures so will the 1) issue be a problem for me?
4. Anti Rollback - what do you mean by this?
5. If your day ends with 60% why don't you let your next day end up in 20%?
6. Does 0%-100% charges waste battery? Some people say it's good for the battery cause it forms and calibrates it.
7. Are You worried about wasting battery cycles because of potential selling of the phone?

Roms: some people would like more custom rom developments to be made available on xda.
Camera: some people think the camera isn't good enough
60% battery: this is best for your phone according to many experts online. The lower your battery level, the more strain there is on the battery to maintain a stable power output. Think of it like collecting water from a well; easy when its full, and harder and harder when it starts to run dry.
Also, heat is the no. 1 enemy of your battery. Quick charge produces more heat. So does car windshield phone holders as you're literally cooking the phone under the sun (i use an air cond vent holder)
Network bands: number of 4G LTE Channels the phone support. More than your average budget phone. LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800), 34(2000), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500), TDSCDMA, CDMA.

Hi,
1. I get 14h Sot over 6 days from 100 to 0. Normal use without gaming. Xiaomi.eu Rom
2. No bugs for me - runs great
3. Pros: big screen, great batterie, good camera with gcam, headphone jack, fullscreen gestures, price
Cons: None for me
4. In general I load the phone from 30 to 80 in 90mins with non quick charge charger. 0 to 100 with qc I think it is little over 2 hours.

1. 6 days of SOT mmmm that's pure melody. Can You specify more what do You do under your SOT
4. What do You prefer? charging the phone from 30% to 80% or from 0%-100%? Is it fifty-fifty? or do you have a preference for example to charge from zero to 100%? What is the ratio of charging from 30% to 80% to from 0% to 100%? Do You believe and perforem the method of prolonging battery life that is about not discharching the phone below a few tens of % (like 60%-20%)?
5. Is normal charger the one from the phone box? Does the fast charger has to be bouguht sepretly and does it require a special USB cable or normal?
6. Did MM3ax ever lagged or got frozen?
I don`t get 6days of sot. I have 14 hours sot within 6 days standby. Sot is mostly surfing, texting, mails, youtube, news . Some navigation and photos.
Yes, charging from 30 to 80 will hopefully exceed batterie life. It is about lithium ion batterie physics.
Qc charger comes with the phone. I use a different charger with a little lesser output. Mostly because this one fits german sockets other than the original chinese one.
No lags and freezes for me.

Why I already sent my Note 20 Ultra back!

Well I am honestly shocked by this. I sort of expected the S20 Ultra not to meet my standards but not the Note 20 Ultra! Decided to stick with my Note 10+ for a bit until maybe Z Fold 2 or Note 20 Ultra drops in price or for another who knows how long.
Anyways thought I would share with you guys why I decided to stick with Note 10+ over the Note 20 Ultra.
First off the Note 20 Ultra is nowhere near a bad phone, much of an improvement over the S20 Ultra which I thought was junk. The main highlights of the device just didn't seem worth $1300+ to me.
Screen overall is literally just a hair bigger and actually a hair less vibrant and saturated then the Note 10.
Screen refresh rate still not sure why this is such a huge deal. Can you tell a difference? Yes slightly depending on what you are doing. Sort of like 4k on a tablet or small laptop really just not worth it imo
Cameras, oh yes the cameras. Glad to see the autofocus issue was fixed from the S20 Ultra and photos are great no matter what camera but the main sensor unless you are using the 108 mp for extreme detail and then you lose HDR look very similar to the Note 10. Only huge difference is the zoom lens on the Ultra and it is a big one. 5x zoom looks great and even 10x in most cases looks very good and usable. This is the only thing that made me actually want to keep the 20
Everything else is pretty much the same again as Note 10+ nothing else worth mentioning really
Few photos of the differences in whites and camera bumps and the pretty much same screens

Yeah I was reading reviews and wasn't pleased with what Samsung did.
The variable refresh rate is cool especially if it save battery, kudas there.
The cam has laser assist AF lock too I believe, well done.
5 G, good.
The fastest Snapdragon yet yields a real performance boost although the 10+ never seems slow.
The bad, price tag is through the roof for the 512gb model.
This Note is even harder to protect than the 10 due the cam hump. That also means it really needs a case. Reports of no factory screen protector, not good especially since you'll want to lay it face down because of the cam hump.
Doesn't hardware support AptX HD bluetooth, very disappointing.
Not enough gain to replace the Note 10+ however a good upgrade maybe for a Note 8 or older.
However the Note 10+ is still a viable option especially if you want Pie.
In 2 months my Note 10+ will be a year old and it's still looking great, running strong in fact better then it ever has. Truth be told I'm still learning to use many of its features... not bored or tired of it by a long shot.
Samsung gave nothing much new for HD audio in the 20; AptX HD should have been present... a 3.5 mm jack been nice too.
Samsung needs a top shelf flagship model to get many people to upgrade from the 10+; this isn't it.
Add to that the world economy is a mess.
Samsung should have tried harder and catered more to the performance crowd to set this new Note further apart from the 10+.
Part of the reason for the fail is Samsung doesn't listen to its customers very well. Oh well... I'll wait.
On my Note 10+ I want:
A) Better battery.
B) Better fingerprint sensor. I see new pixels keep them to the back side. Well done Google.
C) Get rid of the silly front camera hole.
As long as these don't change, there is no reason to upgrade for me. Software updates, unnecessary camera and screen changes does not attract me. Especially with that price tag.
Speaking for those of us who get the Exynos chipset... Samsung sucks balls...
Thery are selling INFERIOR hardware for the same price, this relegates the 120Hz refresh rate to HD+ only and NOT to UHD, not because the phone can't handle it but because the Exynos chipset can't. They can't give part of the world this and leave everyone else out in the rain as that would highlight the inadequacies of the Exynos.
Exynos throttles, is a bigger drain on battery, it alters the picture quality of photo's taken and Samsung have the balls to charge us the same as the Snapdragon 865+ chipset...
For this the can shove the Note 20 Ultra, big camera bump and all, where the sun don't shine...
The price is just pure GREED! Useless money spent on creap publicity!
Any "high end" phone with Exynos cpu is ****.
However 120hz screen is fine. For me. Don't care much for qhd+/8k bull****. On a phone screen ?!?
I like Note 10+ 5g for the square screen (very rare these days) and the design. Only minus for me is that the display could be at least 90hz.
A good thing on 10+ and 20 ultra is sd card slot.
I will never buy 20 ultra even if the price will be 500 euros with exynos cpu!

Maybe enough returns will get Samsung's attention to listen to what their customers what... and don't want.
The large storage is great but not without easy 24 bit audio output. The 3.5 mm jack, there's room for it and spend the extra few cents for the bt chipset that supports AptX-HD.
Sad because this fix was easy and cheap to do.
This very expensive phone should have the best and latest chipsets in it, it doesn't. A locked bootloader doesn't give me any thrills either, Samsung Pay and Knox grrrr.
Fail, again.
As for the cams, at this price point buying a dedicated Canon for shooting makes more sense; much better interchangable optics and dedicated AF/image processors.
I use my 10+ more like a laptop than a cam...
That cam hump sucks and I see it as a major liability from a damage stand point. The Note 10+ is hard enough to protect, the 20 U is far worse.
Then there's wittle Bixby... other than it's cam smart functions it's completely worthless to me and a huge privacy invasive.
Wearables have the same privacy issues and need all the permissions under the sun to even load, really?
Samsung is very hard of hearing.
Kudos for jamming their Note 20 U were it belongs...
The only thing I wish Samsung would do for their camera is when you turn off hdr it actually turns off. So ridiculous. Hdr is always on no matter what you do. Besides switching to pro mode.
I'm sticking with my Note 10+. Am very pleased with it and I've only suffered 2% battery degradation in the first year of use. Using it daily 4 to 12 hours screen on time.
I love how thin the device is and the camera bump on the Note 20 Ultra is not acceptable to me.
Agreed, the Note 20 Ultra is a bit too overpriced, $1300 for almost no improvement over the previous year's device? No thanks.

When you first set it up, the battery estimate it gives is from the Android system's battery degradation estimates. I have another app that can see it as well.
It's overlay ma meter is useful.

I consider it more a battery charging tool.
It's useful as a charge alarm, for it's milliamp overlay usage and battery temp info.
It's charge history is useful unfortunately it's highest resolution is in minutes.
I divide the total about of milliamps absorbed during the charge cycle by the time it took to gauge battery health. I consider anything above 85 [email protected] good in the 30-70% range.
As the battery degrades I expect this value will decrease.
Lol, the phone's battery life estimate isn't any better.
The app is glitchy, it stops recording charge history.. A reload every now and then solves that. This would make it's long term wear estimates inaccurate even if it's wear curve is accurate.
Short term though it's wear graph gives a good comparative indication of how much you're degrading the battery.
Graphically illustrates why you don't want to charge above 80% or go below 30% very often.

Going to start unplugging the charger right after a battery percentage point flips to try to get better than a 60 second resolution for the charge history.
Lol, the first app I install is the package disabler.

The only things I have toggle in Device Care are Optimize for power setting and fast charging.
Then I disable Device Care.
Using the old factory load Pie version which has 360° on it. I use it's cache cleaner as it cleans well but I put in airplane mode first.
All buckets show as active in standby apps; no power management is active other than the embedded Android ones. Runs great

Question Pixel 6 Pro 5005 mAh vs. iPhone 13 Pro Max 4352 mAh

I'm trying to decide between these two and and battery life (SOT) will be the deciding factor for me. I've never owned an iPhone or a Pixel before so I'm not sure what to expect with the Pro's battery life while the Max has been getting universal accolades for its SOT. I've always been an android guy (galaxy notes mostly) and don't like apple (variety of reasons) but the new 13 pro max has set the standard when it comes to hardware with the best camera & video capabilities and now battery life so I'm reluctantly considering it.
I understand in some ways it's not fair to compare these two flagships considering their price difference so I don't expect the 6 pro to match the Max toe to toe with and that's ok. Since they both utilize an LTPO display though I guess it all comes down to software utilization when it comes to their SOT. On paper and looking at the battery specs- the 6 pro should wipe the floor with the Pro Max but since I've never owned a google phone I'm not sure how that'll translate in real life.
Past Pixel and future 6 Pro owners- what are your expectations when it comes to battery life/ SOT once you get your 6 Pros? Do you expect to come close to a full 2 days battery life before having to charge it? If anyone has owned/ will own both please feel free to share your your SOT experience and which one you feel is better.
In short will the Pixel 6 Pro match or even exceed the 13 Pro Max's battery life?
Thanks!

Gapps, by far, are the worst offender when it comes to battery life. With a little bit of effort and root, you can tame them to a significant degree. With some determination, you can replace them entirely with something that is more supportive of your freedom (I've *completely* replaced all goog with a self-hosted instance of Nextcloud and I don't install gapps -- not even microG).
But here is the thing about battery life. Its not even reasonable to measure it in ways its usually presented, because what it really comes down to is (a) usage, and (b) network connection. Screen on, but doing nothing, will use a lot less battery than screen on, and running video gamez.
As far as camera and video capabilities go... apple people will praise apple. Look for INDEPENDENT and CRITICAL reviews to get something more honest. I really doubt that they have anything on the P6's. Google's been ahead in photography for years now, and its really burning the fruit company since in the before-time, its the ONLY thing they actually had. Now they don't even have that.

Without really giving a crap, I'm going to guess that they are going to claim that its because the flash chips are in RAID-0 so won't be fast enough without the bigger (more chips) option.

I agree with most of what you said. Pixels have undoubtedly been the camera champs maybe equaled by more recent Huawei flagships. However there's no question that iPhones have had the best video quality of any one out there for a while now. This is all here and there and I don't really care that much anymore because the gap isn't that big unless you're an enthusiast or someone zooming or pixel peeping (which I'm not... for the most part }
I also agree with you about apps in general but you can nowadays put them in deep sleep so they barely use any in the background for the most part. I don't use a lot of apps but it's interesting since you bring up a good point as to whether ios does a better job than android when it comes to battery optimization. I'll have to do more research on that.
I think different companies like Motorolla, Realme and others have great battery optimization while the mainstream ones less so. Now Apple seems to have made a leap in this regard too. Gsmarena has a great tool to measure overall battery life and just look at this list where android phones (mostly not found stateside) dominate.
Previous Iphones weren't any good when it came to battery life. Apples forum is flooded with people complaining about battery life which is why they spent a lot of time talking about the improved battery life on the iPhone 13. My last iPhone was the iPhone X and it would only last me 6 hours of medium usage.

You're right but talking strictly flagship they've been incrementally improving since the 11 Pro Max. The 13 Pro Max has taken a drastic step forward even more so where I feel mainstream android in general (like Samsung) have to respond or they're going to lose potentially more people like me.
Anyways I see so far no one is predicting how the 6 pro's battery life will compare to the 13 max Pro.
I'll take a leap and say I think the tensor chip coupled with the LTPO display with google's clean android overlay will match the iphone 13 max's battery life

In this COVID day and age where everyone is staying home mostly- not so much. But once you start going outside more you'll need it. Especially if you're an outdoors person like me.
I'm still nostalgic for the days where i use to carry 1 or 2 extra batteries in my wallet and pop off the back to switch them out which literally took 5 seconds. There was a time during a camping trip back in the day when out in the middle of nowhere, everyone's phone died after the first day. Everyone used mine for the next few days. I got lucky when a certain gorgeous gal walked in my tent in the middle of the night to use it and decided to stay after.... aah those were the days
Sorry... friday afternoon and I just popped open my 4th beer

Wait, you can't be serious? The S21 ultra can't hold a candle to the 13 Pro Max and it's not even close. It might compared to the lesser iPhone 13 models but that's not a fair comparison by any sense of the imagination.
I almost went Iphone 13 pro max this gen. Almost. You know why I didn't? No fingerprint sensor. I'm not about to go back to entering my pin every time I want to open my device and masks make face recognition worthless.
Well, the pixel has a lot to live up to. I think it'll beat the iphone in pics. But battery life? I'm getting 2 hours screen on time every 10 percent battery used. Ridiculously good. I hope the pixel can get near that. Doubt it though

Question Anyone with ROG6 yet?

Was thinking of buying the phone alongside with mine Vivo x80 Pro, as it's battery is total disaster.
How's the ROG6 experience in terms of battery, speakers, performance? Would like to hear from someone who has the device rather than paid youtubers.
Battery life is good thanks to the power-efficient 8+ Gen 1.
Comparison in Genshin Impact showed lower power consumption per FPS than 8 Gen 1 phones while maintaining a high frame rate.
The average of 59 FPS is the best among the 8+ Gen 1 phones I have compared!
Thermal throttling is loose, so if you want to play for a long time, you should have a cooler.
For the speaker, both bass and treble sounded beautifully, especially treble was clear and distinct.
It's front speaker so not easily blocked by hands when held horizontally.

Update the phone and do a system reset, you should have around 460GB left or even more.
speaker is worse than rog 3 because rog 3 has seperate dac for 2 speakers, rog 6 only have one dac for 2 speaker and headphone jack, sound is nice but weak bass, cant compare to rog 3 or blackshark 5 . perfomance is extremely smooth, Asus kinda undervolt the soc so they dont overheat as much as rog 3 and 5 during gaming section(particularly genshin impact max setting), while gaming with max setting genshin , phone temp never pass 43 degree( when using rog 3 its around 50-52) , with the cooling fan the phone barely reach 37 degree . Battery life is very good if u turn off some useless feature like asus logo back light and live screen . Camera perfomance depends on ppl , i barely take any picture so its acceptable . I bought it two days ago, the speakers are great but shame they downgraded it.
Battery life is superb without tweaking anything, camera is ok and very good at daylight if you use RAW.
It's a great daily driver and gaming phone, i bought it only for the daily drive thing as i barely play games on the phone, wish mine Vivo X80 Pro had the performance, endurance and speakers of the Rog6.
Can you please elaborate on the downgraded speakers part?
My understanding is that they're a bit quieter compared to ROG-3 but speaker sound quality is better....
Interesting details about the sound/speakers. Bad one to cheap out on. ROG 5 has quite upgraded sound experience compared to ROG 3. Better sound, deeper bass, etc.. If the 6 ranks below 3, then it's a big step down on the audio experience...
Can anyone else confirm that?
That would reflect bad on Asus.
Might sound stupid but i bought this device only because it has no notch/punchhole, a good battery, better software support and higher Screen refresh rate compared to red magic 7s pro. I will miss the internal cooler of red magic tbh. But the external cooler makes sense if you consider playing for a longer period as you won't be carrying it in your pocket anyways when playing for longer periods. I will cap the performance which should still be enough without throttling and without any cooler. I like that they have that option outside of x mode where it doesn't throttle at all and limits the performance without a cooler attached. Thats just amazing

Bought this phone for same reason minus gaming reasons.
Mine X80 Pro standby and battery are so bad it's not funny, and it's slow compared to the ROG6.
ROG6 barely refreshes any apps in the background and the battery life is great, some minor bugs like some stutters from time to time on BT when the screen is off.
