Question Does forcing max refresh rate via ADB works? - OnePlus 9 Pro

Hi,
would anyone be kind to confirm that this still works on OP9 PRO?
Following code worked for both 7 and 8 (more about this):
adb shell settings put global oneplus_screen_refresh_rate 0
MKBHD in his video mentioned that due to the dynamic refresh rate, he sometimes faces stutters, which i absolutely cannot stand on phones. I'm very eager to hear how does scrolling smoothness feels for you. Especially for someone that's coming from OP7/8 or Pixel5. Thanks.

Yes it works

I get stutters on a lot of google stuff, Google app and Youtube

@jboogie3 Hi. Did you try this command on OxygenOS? I'm using ColorOS version of OP9 and it seems ineffective.

Yes I'm using Oxygen OS. I first had to set at 60hz and then the command worked successfully.

How’s performance when you force 120? Also does the commanf force 120 or 90? Only ask as it was originally intended for the OP7 Pro.

Cropped out Instagram and WhatsApp story

My friend just bought a Redmi Note 5 Pro and it has a weird problem.
When viewing an instagram or Whatsapp story,it automatically gets cut in both sides vertically.
Maybe it's because of the 18:9 ratio but I haven't found anyone else with the same phone having same problem.
The device has the latest 9.2.7.0 MIUI version.
What's the cure here?

Yes it's because of the 18:9 display. I have the same problem too...
Too bad the Instagram developers are lazy and mark their app as optimized, yet aren't at all!
It's the same problem for even flagship-level phones with non 16:9 displays (such as S9, G6, etc)
The only way to solve it is to pray to God that these devs realized their mistake and fixed the matter.
Though I insist you (or your friend) opting for Instagram Beta, as it should receive new features and fixes faster.

Well that's surprising. I thought since mainstream phones like S8,s9,pixel now use 18:9 ratio, instagram must've added support for it like they did for Iphone X within months of its release.
I also wonder if there are any unofficial workaround for it :/
Go into settings--->fullscreen display (I'm translating from polish so it may a bit different) and find Instagram and force it to work with 18:9 ratio. I had similar issue with Worms 4. After forcing it from that menu to work in 18:9 everything is alright

Which MIUI version are you on?
I can't find the Fullscreen Display option on the note 5 pro.
@Jongla
I have Redmi Note 5 global, not pro (but it shouldn"t make any difference)

Even though I'd followed the video above, the Instagram toggle is greyed out, hence it's state can't be changed.

Yes it is greyed out for me too.
So I am in the process to unlock bootloader and flash the updated 9.5.6.0 version or the latest xiaomi.eu version.
That will most probably let me change Instagram toggle.

Too bad, I'm already on 9.5.6.0 since I booted this device and the toggle is still greyed out
It's probably better to opt for custom rom at this point, MIUI won't cut it, probably...

In your video,we see a lot of apps but Instagram.
Can you confirm if particularly the instagram app toggle is changeable in your ROM version?

It's greyed out as well, but is like enabled by default and not changenable. I don't use Instagram. All I did was to install it and go into the settings to check which position the toggle is

Need Honor View 20 Camera Apk for interesting experiment.

Hello, everyone. I am a Mate 20 X owner and I am trying an interesting experiment. The Honor View 20 has an interesting software trick that not even the Mate and P30-Series have. AI Ultra-clear mode takes several 48MP exposures into one high quality 48MP photo. In theory, the Mate 20 and P30 series should be better suited for AI Ultra-clear mode since the sensors are more powerful than the IXM586 on the Honor View 20 and 40MP photos should be a bit easier to process than the 48MP. The P30 Pro in particular should be well suited because its RYYB sensor collects 40% more light and is optically stabilized. The theory is to create photos with a quality that's higher than what is expected from a smartphone. Of course this could all fall flat and the app will crash upon launch. But this is XDA, nothing ventured, nothing gained!
I have looked all over the net, but I could not find a camera Apk for the Honor View 20. I am hoping that a Honor View 20 owner would be kind enough to send me the apk for this experiment. If it works, I would also like if some P30 Pro owners would join me in this experiment. Thanks so much!
Was looking for this aswell. P30 Pro owner here.
The SuperSpectrum sensor on your P30 Pro, in theory, should produce outstanding results. Hopefully someone would be able to help us out.

Thanks for the share. But without an experienced developer we will not be able to run it. For Huawei devices it is treated like an update to the existing camera app.
I tried it several times with App clone, and even made it to Install, but it crashes after wanting the permission for localisation. I guess someone would have to Mod it. I would If I could.

Not only camera you also need libraries inorder to get the camera working.
To find what libraries are missing run logcat while opening the camera.

120hz QHD Developer Mode Toggle

So we know the 120hz is only enabled for FHD+ and limited to 60hz on QHD, but there's been some talk from leaks leading up to today saying it may still be possible to get 120hz in QHD using a developer mode option, can anyone confirm this is still possible?

I'd like to know this as well. Hopefully you get an answer from someone who has knowledge within the phone. I pray if there isn't an option that XDA finds a way to do it through ADB like the force 90hz option on OnePlus 7 Pro.
hopefully that exists
I really hope we can Atleast do 90Hz on 1140p.,

Can you try this tasker profile.
Import this little profile here to tasker. You need to give tasker the permissions it asks for within adb please report back

Anyone tested ? Does this work ?
Thread title is a bit misleading

EIS doesn't work properly on my RN8

I have compared the EIS between RN8 and Realme 5 (and some other devices). I realized that EIS mode doesn't work AT ALL whether it's turned on or not. I try to flash China Rom, Global rom and Eu rom as well, however; there is no improvement.
I heard someone said that we can tweak the build.prop file to handle the problem, but I cannot find out how to do that.
If anyone knows how to fix this, please give a comment. Thanks in advance!

In build.prop add the following line
Code:
persist.vendor.camera.eis.enabled=1

^So did that do anything?
Image stabilization is only available up to 1080p30; this is stated in the specs (not emphasized of course!) I have confirmed this in video tests too... However I have noticed it creates 'skipping' effect where the video jumps a bit when the camera moves. Not good! So probably better to do it afterward in software on your PC (or maybe there's an app for that?). Should work better, and at any resolution too.
Edit: I just discovered the Google Photos app has a good "Stabilize" feature, works with 4K too.

Sporadic lower refresh rate (60?) than configured 144hz

I've been having this issue with my Mi 10T Pro. Not sure if it has to do with using Lawnchair as my default launcher. I've been having this issue on 12.0.10 Global and with the xiaomi.eu rom 12.0.7.
So I've configured my screen to refresh at 144hz. Sometimes when I unlock my device it's certainly not at 144hz, it feels more like 60hz. When I turn the screen off and then unlock my device again it's fine. It happens about 1 in 5-10 device unlocks.
Anyone else having this issue?

couldn't reproduce the problem, I'm using MIUI launcher on Xiaomi.eu 12.0.7
it could be the luncher like you suggested
try under developer options > Power Monitor > frame rate monitor tools and check if it's dropping or locking on 60hz

Thanks, I've enabled it. Will debug the cause and post the findings here.
#Edit: Yep, confirmed. It's locked at 50hz even.

Hi. This might be out of topic.
Can i ask what method did you use to install xiaomi.eu rom?
Switched to the stock launcher now and have not had the issue yet.

Sure, I fastbooted with TWRP and flashed the rom. Flashed Magisk right after.
No issues on the stock launcher after half a day of use. Just installed and set up Nova Launcher, but that also has the same issue. I absolutely hate the stock launcher, but this bug is also quite annoying. What are you guys using?
This is launcher problem, same with Nova Launcher !

I also use Nova Launcher (Prime), have been using it on my last three phones.
Never noticed a drop in refresh rate or framerate.
This is a problem with third side launchers and adaptive refresh ...

Yes I do.
I have this issue as well. Changing back to stock launcher helped, but I still get it sometimes using Chrome.
I (strangely) did not encounter this issue when I was on the xiaomi.eu 12.0.10 ROM for the Xiaomi Mi 10T (non-pro). Of course this lead to camera issues, but just something I noticed. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next release for our 10t Pro
I'm using stock EEA ROM with the default launcher and I observed it yesterday for the first time. I had this same problem with my old OnePlus 5 with Android 8 and 9 but it got solved when I upgraded to Android 10 and it never occurred again. I guess it's something sporadic but annoying that can be solved through software. Let's hope it gets solved in a future update.

Thanks!
