XTRONS TA708PIL - Signal quality issues on FM and DAB+ - Connected Car

Hi,
I bought a XTRONS TA708PIL about 2 years ago and i've had issues with the signal quality of FM radio stations and DAB+ pretty much since owning the head unit.
I purchased a Eightwood 12v antenna which worked with the DAB+ USB using DAB-Z for a couple of months then the quality seemed to degrade again.
Recently updated the DAB-Z app and found that signal quality has improved on some stations that didn't really suffer with signal issues seem to have started in certain parts of my regular journey to work.
FM only works when car is stationary. Updated to NavRadio as I read this was the better app to use but still issues.
The antenna is grounded to the body and the 12v supplied connecting to the fuse box.

Hi, I have a similar set up and I have the same issue, I have thought of changing the roof antenna, then my neighbour said she was having same problem in her car with everything all built in. I have a Amateur radio licence, the fist thing I was taught, you can have the best receiver in the world but if you dont have the right antenna to match, my thoughts are a better roof antenna, so I think I will try that first. There are areas where the digital signal can be interrupted. Weather to and built up areas. Just my thoughts, good luck, Bill

See my Arkon Car Kit modifications for the XDA2s

Hello all,
I've enjoyed my new PDA and learning about on your site, thought I'd better give something back. This integrated/modded car kit gives you more:
Power/recharge
GPS input
Stereo Audio output (wired & wireless)
RF output
Amplified Microphone input
Check it out at:
http://www.digitaltrading.co.uk/sr20ve/xda2s.htm
Thanks Paul
Hi, thanks for the details.
Do you suffer any interference through the audio from the gsm radio signalling? Only, I noticed that quite a few integrated holders have problems reported, especially the ones with amplified speakers.
Yes, that particular cradle caused me headaches, the racket through the speaker due to rf breakthrough from the gsm radio was unbearable, I actually threw it out the window I got so fed up with it.
It's too early to say about RF interference but I don't think that I will because I've now fixed up an FME rf connector to the rear connecting to an external car aerial (the RF power will be split and exited). It does add to the hassle engaging the unit however:
1) RF connector to rear
2) Connector at base for power & GPS feed
3) Jack on top for speakerphone & audio output
I've also hacked away more at the rear of the Arkon to accomodate, Krussel case, RF jack etc. It looks a bit of mess now!
Cheers paul

Hey Cruisin-thru',
can you drive past my house next time you get fed up with your gear?
Phone me first though so I can be ready to catch!
I was driving along the M5 a couple of years ago, I was smoking a cigarette while driving when my mobile rang, I picked the phone up with the ciggy between my fingers and answered the call, after the call ended I threw the phone handset out the window and put the dogend back on the passenger seat, as you may have gathered, this was not intentional, I got a hole burned in the seat and lost my handset. :?

FM transmitter.

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows any good, cheap FM transmitters that would work for the HTC EVO. My car doesn't have blue tooth so I need to buy one of these! Obviously, the main reason I'm getting one of these is for music.
If anyone has one, tell me about it.
Thanks
Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, don't waste your money. I've tried a bunch and they are all terrible.
The only good ones are the ones that are hardwired to the antenna.
if you can find one, I bought one of the generic white ones that is similar to the tunecast 2. But it was made in china. I took it apart to do the antenna mod that you can do with the tunecast 2 and sure enough there was a pots inside. When i adjusted it I could pick really good. If you want something that will broadcast you can try the digital transfmitter from c crane. I have heard good things about it.
I have the Motorola t 505 Bluetooth fm transmitter. It's an ok fm transmitter. I wish it had a stronger fm signal... living in nyc, there aren't too many good empty stations to use..... another downside to the t 505 is the price.... I think its still a bit high.
What kind of car do you have, does it have the factory radio in it, if not what make and model stereo is in it?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm going to assume the OP has the factory stereo system in his car that does not have a aux in and a blue tooth module.

+1 for the Moto T505. Perhaps due to the fact that my car's FM antenna is built into the rear defroster, my FM reception is typically quite poor with most FM transmitters. However, living in a much less urban area than NYC, I've no problem finding solid FM stations for the T505.

I just got this the other day on a recommendation and all I can is wow, it actually works. You won't be getting concert sound from it but if your deck has no tape/bluetooth/aux this is your best option. And if you don't like it Meritline is great with their returns

+1 here as well. I got the T505 in my car and it rocked - at first. The more and more I use it, the more and more I regret buying it. I'm saving money to buy a stereo deck with Bluetooth built in instead. I live in Chicagoland and even if I do find a clear station you can totally tell the audio quality isn't up to par. Do yourself a favor and get a deck with built in Bluetooth. You'll be much, much happier.
i actually bought the t505 a few weeks ago. posted a review on it here.
i live in NYC and it works great for me.
great buy imo, and if you order online its like 50-60.
i'm not trying to contest a deck with BT built in, i'm 100% sure that's better, but this works great for me and is dramatically cheaper.
imo, try to t505, if it doesnt work out, return it and save up for a good head unit with bt built in.
*delete, double post*

AM Radio sound is poor

I have just installed a MTCB-KLD6-V2.86 quad core head unit running android kit kat 4.4
The AM radio reception is awful, it crackles and has a cracked record sound every few seconds.
The FM Band works great, so, I am assuming that there is no problems with the antenna.
The unit this one replaced was also a Chinese android unit and there was zero problems with the AM Band.
Any suggestions as what the problem could be?
It would seem that nobody else has had this problem?
The radio reception (am and fm) is a little weak on these units compared to some factory radios, but no one has ever talked about being different between AM and FM. If I had to guess it would be an issue your antenna or the antenna coax connection.

is there reasonable radio reception on new units with integrated twin fakra connector

Hello,
as i crashed my old pumpkin head unit, i am looking for a new one, for my Audi A4
(my current model is out of stock)
I consider ordering this one now:
http://www.erisinwholesale.com/special-car-dvd/audi/erisin-es3078a-7-android-51-car-dvd-gps-dab-for-audi-a4-497.html
This one has already the Audi/VW main-connector right at the radio, also a twin fakra connector and even an integrated CAN-modul. So there will be way less wiring spaghetti behind the unit, which seems really nice to me.
But i am a bit afraid, that the radio reception could be bad...
I don´t really trust this ex China-factory twin Fakra connector there. Usually one had to use a external powered antenna boost-adapter for those android head units. And even with those boost-adapters, the reception was never as good, as with the original radio. Because no adapter could replace the twin-receiver diversity function of the original VW/Audi radios.
Sooo....
With this new unit, i would have to directly connect my antennas... without any adapters or boosters...
Has anyone an idea if this really works well on those new units??
I don´t think those new units have two receivers installed?! Or do they?
Is this twin fakra adapter at least powered?
I hope someone has already played with a similar unit and can give some comments..
thanks!
In theory it should be better with a port for the diversity antenna as well. At the end of the day this is the main reason why the original radio has better reception.
I've got the Erisin ES3015V which I suspect is similar (it has the same VW-specific connections). I have never owned any other android head unit, so I can't compare the radio reception, but I can tell you that it's not as good as the original radio. My guess is it's somewhere in between.
Hi,
Thanks!
Yes, your ES3015V should be pretty much the same, just with a different front cover. I have ordered this ES3078A now anyhow... Hope for the best...
Do you know, is this Twin-Fakra Connector at least powered? (12V) or do we need to add something here on our own?
Are you satisfied with the rear speaker volume?
This is also something, i had to modify on my first head unit.

Sorry, don't know if it's powered or not, but I'd be very interested in hearing about your findings .I haven't noticed the sound from the rear speakers being too low, but then again, sound quality overall isn't exactly brilliant. I've been thinking about adding a powered subwoofer, but I've read a lot of stuff on here about these units being underpowered on the RCA outputs, so I'm not sure if it'll be worth it.

BMW E90 Eonon GA7165a PX5 MCU Version MTCD_WWW_V2.58.1 dab interference

Hi,
I have a BMW E90 with a Eonon GA7165a PX5 userdebug 6.0.1 MXC89L with MCU Version MTCD_WWW_V2.58.1
I have the optional dab Adaptor they call V0054, it has a single USB cable out of it that plugs into the rear of the head unit and a DAB ariel that goes to the windscreen
this started back in April when I bought it maybe 50% of the stations had terrible interference and distortion on them no matter where i was whereas the remaining stations, (magic, xradio, chill.... ect were clear)
I logged it as a problem with Eonon support (which is dreadful btw) to which they told me that i needed a stronger active ariel so i left it until i got one in august,
I bought an active ariel and fitted it, and guess what exactly the same only stronger signal.
I have since discovered that the channels are only broken when the car is running and if the car isnt started every single channel is clear, and as soon as you crank the car over it distorts, and soon as you stop it, it clears back up again, below is my video of what happens, ignore the red light on the dash at the time of recording it, I needed new rear pads lol
https://youtu.be/X6GGmsABsfw
I logged it again as a problem and they this time tell me that i need a new dab adaptor and as it is beyond the 60 days warranty i will need to buy another adaptor. I can almost guarantee this isnt the case and its probbabily just interference from somewhere but i cannot eliminate it for love nor money.
any help is greatly appreciated
mick
