IntroductionThis is the unofficial LineageOS 18.1 thread for the Sony Xperia Z3 DUAL D6633. Although Lineage is maintaining a device tree for the D6633 it is currently not supported officially, but this may change in the future.
If you own a Z3 single SIM D6603 go here.
If you own a Z3 Compact D5803 go here.
If you own a Z3 DUAL SIM Hongkong variant D6683 see post#2.
LineageOS 18.1 is an open-source Android distribution based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) version 11 (R).
InstallationIf you are on stock OS, you need a custom recovery first. You can get the recommended recovery with the download link below.
If you are coming from stock or other ROMs, you need to make a factory reset. You also will need a factory reset if you come from LineageOS 17.1 with encryption enabled.
As always, make sure to backup before installing this ROM.
Detailed installation instructionsPlease follow the installation instructions for LineageOS on z3. However, do not use the provided recovery and ROM links for the z3 but use the download links for the z3dual below.

What about the D6683?Compared to the D6633, the D6683 has a slightly different hardware and never got a .291 firmware update with an updated bootloader.
According to a letter from SONY submitted to the FCC in 2015, D6683 has different power amplifiers for UMTS and LTE. this explains why users which try to just use a D6633 ROM on a D6683 have trouble with LTE, see here for example.
With the support of @pi r I am trying to provide a solution for D6683 devices to run LOS18.1 and I will post that here if we are successful.

try flashing the rom again, usually this would fix the problems

@Mr.Tom_Tom do i need chromecast dongle to use cast feature?
i connected my phone and tv to same wifi network but nothing gets found.
tried an application then my tv got detected but right after connecting to tv, my phone rebooted.

Thanks for porting Lineage 18.1 to D6633. I'm trying to install this to a D6683 which has had the following already done:
1. Flashed D6633 23.5.A.1.291 stock OS using FlashTool (in the downloaded XperiFirm files, I deleted fwinfo.xml and manually selected D6683 in the FlashTool > Bundles > Create )
2. Got root access with SuperSU with locked bootloader then backed up TA partition to preserve DRM keys.
3. reboot into temporary TWRP (still with locked bootloader) and attempt adb sideload lineage 18.1 D6633
When attempting to adb sideload Lineage 18.1 for the D6633 onto the D6683 device, TWRP returns an error: "E3004: This package is for device: z3dual; this device is ." (see attached screenshot).
The other screenshot of the About Phone screen is for general reference. Despite the phone actually being a D6683, the Model Number shows D6633. Also, to get a temporary TWRP running, the kernel was downgraded from 23.5.A.1.291 to 23.5.A.0.575 despite showing 23.5.A.1.291 in the Build Number. Under Kernel Version, it shows Apr 22 instead of June which supposedly means it is actually running 23.5.A.0.575
A couple of questions: Is it possible for me to get this Lineage 18.1 for D6633 image to work on this D6683 device somehow?
My main question:
Do I have to unlock the bootloader first and install TWRP permanently to the recovery partition? This question is why I'm writing this post here as I will only unlock the bootloader if I have to, assuming Lineage18.1 for D6633 can work on a D6683

as far as i know, you must be on the latest official firmware available for your device, then use lineage recovery, not the twrp.
then you can install this rom. i could install D6603 roms on my dual device so i guess you can install this rom on your device too.

Thanks TheShadowOfAGhost20 for your help. Got Lineage 18.1 z3dual running with the recovery image you provided.
Worth noting here in case others have an issue: The only hiccup I had with trying to flash and boot into the new Lineage recovery was this error: "fastboot: error: Couldn't parse partition size '0x'"
I tried "fastboot flash:raw boot recovery.img" and was then able to reboot into Lineage custom recovery.
Have now successfully installed Lineage 18.1 D6633 onto a D6683 and will test if the device works normally with LTE bands etc...

Hi zpunout to flash the rom just flash the recovery on 1st post but not in recovery so type fastboot flash boot
Or in recovery put the recovery.img in internal storage or sdcard and got to install image and go to where you put the file and flash it on boot and then reboot you will see los recovery and go to flash adb and side load and side load it from pc with gapps and magisk root
Don't ues 23 build but ues this one https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/files/6330986/Magisk-v22.1_mod_sony.zip and there you go

I installed this rom on my Z3. Both simcards are recognized. But WIFI is not connecting.

I just found out the reason for Wifi not working after switching my guest network back to wpa2 security. Obviously, the ROM or the Z3 Device does not support wpa3 encryption for wifi connections.
Is there at all a possibility to fix this?

WPA3 is not supported at the moment, and likely it won't be supportet at all due to lack of radio firmware capabilities. Would be happy to be proven wrong here...

extract the apk inside the zip file, rename it to .zip then flash it through recovery, it gives an error, ignore it and click yes then it shows success, you can also install version 23 after the flash, choose direct install option in it, it will update magisk's version

2. Flash and boot the new twrp given in this thread.
3. Format data and wipe everything.

Google Apps
Both OpenGApps and NikGApps should work. You can download and install the Google Apps from opengapps.org. You need ARM64 and 11.x. Open GApps for Android 11 is still in beta. You can download those releases here.
KNOWN ISSUES
WFD is not working
Stock camera is not working anymore due to incompatibility of stock library (libimageprocessorjni.so) with new libgui

Awesome work mate!
just tried flashing twrp to my phone (single sim) running aosp 11, and it couldnt get past the splash screen.
also tried fastboot booting the image, and it just hangs on the sony logo.
it could be the kernel im using, ill try a complete wipe and reinstall of this rom and twrp tonight.
EDIT: flashing stock rom to start fixed it. everything works as it should now.

The twrp-3.5.0-0-20210117-maple isn't working well on G8141 model with this ROM. I've using twrp 3.2.1 and I can say that it is more stable. I've seen that after the flashing I cannot reach the TWRP after reboot and I need to reinstalling the TWRP again. With others ROM's the issue not exist.

Start from stock ROM. Use xperifirm to download the latest stock Rom and use newflasher to flash it. Then flash twrp, lineage and magisk.
Thats how I did it.
Thanks for your hard work on this. Flashed this, working great, love having 2 day battery life. With NO gapps. It’s all about privacy
Hopefully you are still working on is
First of all: Many thanks for spending all the effort to create this ROM for the old Sony XZ Premium!!!
So far I was using Bliss ROM but the new Android security issues made me to wake up and look for something fresher ;-)
I do have a G8141 (German) device. Flashing worked quite well and the system was booting up quickly. (ROM+TWRP 3.5+openGApps nano+Magist 21.4)
So far I detected just one issue yet which I would like to report:
WLAN and mobile connection not stable. I required me 4 reboot attempts to get a more stable connection. WLAN was constantly dropping out and only a reboot at the end made the device to reconnect. Same for cellular connection. After around 4 reboots I have a stable connection now.
I will monitor the behaviour and hopefully it will become stable after all Google Apps are installed etc..
I will let you know.

Finally I am giving up. I am not able to get a stable WLAN or cellular connection. After installing it again and again (format data twice, factory reset etc., starting all over with latest stock FW) am not getting it working properly. After 1-2 hours, WLAN is not able to connect anymore and cellular is detected incl. carrier but dropping off and data connection not possible to establish.
Really strange was the latest/ last Sony FW everything works. With other ROMS I am running into similar problems. Sometimes cellular is not detected, but WLAN works and sometimes both are not working. Last fully working alternative ROM was Bliss from late September 2020. After reading that several of you are successfully using this ROM I start to believe that this is perhaps a problem with my device made for the German market...
Is there an option to hide the "hide keyboard" button at the bottom while typing? I've already used full gesture but it still shows a bar with hide keyboard button at the bottom while typing.
Thanks OP for bringing LOS18 to maple!!
The best Android 11 ROM. Using it for over a week and everything works. Battery life is two days with regular use.
Weird, after installation and enter the SIM pin and connect to the Wi-Fi network, it take me charge directly from the carrier network for data. Sould be better what connection I will choose during the first installation as primary (Wi-Fi or mobile ) and not connecting by default directly to the mobile internet. With others Android 11 ROMs this issue not exits. Some thoughts?
fastboot -w
install twrp-3.5.0-0-20210117-maple
install lineage-18.1-20210120-UNOFFICIAL-maple from twrp
I want to install gapps but after first run i cannot back to twrp - when I try to run in recovery mode I only see black screen.
I try to install oldest twrp - no results.
Any idea what is the problem ?

That’s what just happened to me. But I didn’t install gapps. Just went black screen, won’t boot up. Also I’ve had it running for about 3-4 weeks with no issues. Now this. Can’t even get into twrp

LineageOS is a free, community-built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 6, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review.

hi, amazing job for porting this rom
tho i'm a bit confused with the steps to flash the zip files, am i supposed to use "nora-rec.img" recovery to flash the rom and the gapps? i can't find the option to flash zip files in that recovery

Not a port, rom was actually built properly based off hannah trees (Credits to @karthick mostwanted) , however TWRP was a port from hannah , made by @amaterasushen
The problem is Nora and james both have tiny recovery partition sizes so its gonna require some more work before twrp will be flashable , For now just use it to wipe system and vendor only , and use lineage recovery for the rest, you can goto the 'update' menu in lineage recovery to flash zips for now.

I already flashed it, after I did a factory reset with the lineage recovery, I rebooted into twrp and flashed both files + magisk, everything is working really well, I'm actually surprised of how fluid this rom is
Nice! , yeah as I said , no port rig job.. its the real deal
Glad you enjoying it
I manage to successfully install this ROM even though I deviated slightly from the instructions. I did the following:
fastboot boot recovery-twrp64-nora.img
Wipe -> ADVANCED -> Format Data - type yes
Wipe -> ADVANCED -- select system + vendor
reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery nora-rec.img
fastboot boot nora-rec.img
Factory reset
reboot to bootloader
fastboot boot recovery-twrp64-nora.img
Copied the Lineage and OpenGapps zips to the internal memory and flashed via TWRP without errors
excellent
I have seen in other ROMs that there are graphical bugs and the audio equalizer does not work correctly. Are these bugs present in this ROM?
Nora never had a rom until now
I do not have a nora , however i do not believe it has such bugs

Hello. Thanks for the ROM, I already downloaded it. I'm a bit of a layman about installing ROMs. I was confused to read your instructions. Can I install your ROM in this way (https://tecnoblog.net/283069/como-instalar-lineageos-e-atualizar-o-seu-android/)?
Do you have any other instructions on installation, like a tutorial? Grateful

How do you unlock the Bootloader. I did all the steps until I got the key.
fastboot oem get_unlock_data
(bootloader) Unlock data: Key
But on the Motorola website it says "Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking.". What to do ?
Mine is the Motorola XT-1944-4

Installing LineageOS for the first time
Flash lineage recovery
Only the provided lineage recovery will be supported,
using TWRP might result in a possible data loss!!
If using Odin rename the lineage recovery image for your model to recovery.img and add it to a .tar archive using e.g 7zip.
If using Heimdall use: heimdall flash --RECOVERY recovery.img --no-reboot
Boot lineage recovery
IMPORTANT: Do not boot into system again before booting recovery, or system will restore stock recovery!
If using Odin untick auto-reboot before flashing.
After flashing reboot by pressing Volume Down and Power for approximately 7 seconds,
immediately hold Volume Up and Power to boot recovery
IMPORTANT: As of OneUI 3 your device needs to be connected to a PC via USB cable in order to be able to
boot recovery via Volume Up and Power.
Factory reset using Factory reset -> Format data/factory reset
Warning: Unlike TWRP this will also erase internal storage!
Sideload LineageOS by enabling sideload via Apply Update -> Apply from ADB
Then run adb sideload <path to your lineage.zip> on your PC
Optional:
Sideload GApps and magisk by repeating above step
with their zip/apk
Known issues:
VoLTE/VoWiFi
Google maps
Firmware upgrade instructions:
Get the latest firmware for your device here
Follow the provided instruction for flashing with Heimdall
Gonna try this out later. Nice!
Looks awesome!
NOTE: z3s (Galaxy s20 ultra) and y2s (galaxy s20 plus) builds are still uploading, hold tight
Nice ! Thank you so much for the great work and effort put into this
Two questions:
1. Is 5G working as it is not anymore in the "known issues" section ?
2. When using the latest S firmware is a dirty flash from LOS 18.1 possible ?
Cheers !

I am not sure about 5G as i only have a 4G device. Otherwise the devices are same
about 2. Dirty flashing could Theoretically work but i really cannot guarantee it. You can always try updating only the firmware for your device by going here https://github.com/Linux4/firmware-update/releases and finding your device and flashing everything with heimdall with the provided command, then try dirty flashing without wiping.
All three builds are uploaded now, enjoy!
Exelent ROM for people like me that dislike oneui and all its bloatware. Beside that this rom work so mutch better then the current oneui4 that feels slow and sluggish compared with los12.

Thanks again to the team for your work.
I'm on G980FXXSCDUJ5 (S20 4G - x1s).
I was trying to upgrade to latest firmware G980FXXSCEUL9 before to load your 'lineage-19.0-20220111-UNOFFICIAL-x1s' but I have a problem.
According to me, two firmwares on your GitHub link are not corresponding to their designation:
-firmware-SM-G980F-G980FXXSCEUL9
-firmware-SM-G980F-G980FXXSCEUL7
(after download, sha256 hash controls are ok)
I've flashed these firmwares and the result for both is:
-G980FXXUCEUL6
-bootloader relocked
-On Download Mode screen, additional Japanese texts appear
I loaded back G980FXXSCDUJ5 from my datas.
Can you have a look ?
Thanks

hi!
1. yes it is stable like any other a12L roms beacuse it uses the same device, kernel, and vendor tree. even though it's unofficial.
2. yes arrowos have signature spoofing enabled. so it supports microg.
3. i personally use the latest twrp from the official website. https://dl.twrp.me/maple/twrp-3.6.1_9-0-maple.img.html

what gapps are you using? can you please provide a logcat?
hey,
wow, cool, what a fast answer thx!
ok, so it's stable (based on whatawurst iirc, clicked a while through the many pages), signature spoofing is enabled which allows microg (will be enough for me, just a couple of apps via aurora store, nothing fancy, and google apps stuff finally gone). sounds great!
last question: how often will there will be updates/releases? every x weeks/months? and if A12L is installed: OTA updates or flash always necessary? Just curious.
well, i think i'll give it a try, maybe easter weekend. flashed only one rom (/e/OS on a samsung s5) before, but, hey, what could possibly go wrong?
is there a mirror link? I can not visit google drive in my region. Thanks guys.

if you have flashed a12 before, you need to put the files in microsd/usb otg/temp directory or install through adb sideload because the twrp can't decrypt data for now (in a12 roms). but if you're on stock rom or any stock based rom that isn't a12, then you can use the internal storage in twrp.
Cool, thank you. Yes, still stock rom. So only copy it to the internal storage and flash. Sounds easy
edit: ok, i think i can remember why - with one of the android9-followers encryption was introduced...
ok, couldn't wait and did the install. some problems during the installation, will report maybe later, but the boot into the system then succeeded. did some settings (clock, timezone etc.); the problem now: the system boot seems to hang.
i tried to transfer some files (contacts and apk for f-droid) but the copy somehow got stuck. I then tried a reboot, but after sony logo and the android robot head i see the moving/glowing arrow symbol. And that's it. boot process doesn't proceed. Well... what could be wrong?
LOL... i think i know what went wrong: for login i wanted to have a PIN, and the system offered me to secure the system boot with that PIN as well. I think the system got stuck when the PIN has to be entered - but i never get offered to enter the PIN. Great

strange, still having problems with my SIM card. System boots, asks for SIM PIN, but then says: "Service not available". German provider congstar (telekom daughter). By default no APN is elected (available: lebara internet and telekom internet); i added the congstar apn manually -> no difference, doesn't work.
i tried a different phone, a samsung galaxy s5, with lineageOS 18.1 - no problems there. Any related issues known? someone else has this problem?
created a logcat.txt via 'adb logcat -d > logcat.txt', is attached here. some congstar related messages, not sure if they help.
i can see a couple of error messages, probably not related, not sure if interesting ;-)
strange, now it works, phone calls work... the small radio cell icon shows 3-4 bars, but with an ! - very strange... i don't trust it at the moment, will check it regularly the next days.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 13, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

Reporting Bugs
DO NOT Report bugs if you're running a custom kernel or you installed Xposed
DO NOT Report bugs if you're using TWRP
DO NOT Report bugs while having Magisk installed (especially with Zygisk enabled)
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. Please also do not report known issues. Any bug not reported in the bug report format below may be ignored.

Connect the device to a Wi-Fi network.
Enable Developer Options by pressing the “Build Number” option in the “Settings” app within the “About” menu
From within the Developer options menu, enable OEM unlock.
Power off the device, and boot it into download mode:
With the device powered off, hold Volume Down + Bixby and connect USB cable to PC.
Now, click the button that the onscren instructions coorelate to “Continue” and/or “Unlock Bootloader”.
Your device will reboot, you may now unplug the USB cable from your device.
The device will demand you format userdata, please follow the onscreen instructions to do so.
Run through Android Setup skipping everything you can, then connect the device to a Wi-Fi network.
Re-enable Development settings by clicking the “Build Number” option 10 times, in the “Settings” app within the “About” menu, and verify that “OEM Unlock” is still enabled in the “Developer options” menu.
After flashing reboot by pressing Volume Down and Power for approximately 7 seconds,
immediately hold Volume Up, Bixby and Power to boot recovery
IMPORTANT: As of OneUI 3 your device needs to be connected to a PC via USB cable in order to be able to
boot recovery via Volume Up, Bixby and Power.
Optional:
Sideload GApps and Lygisk by repeating above step
with their zip/apk
Magisk
As this ROM has a working ramdisk sideloading the magisk apk is enough, just as it is
on every other device, no bootimage with magisk included or installing to recovery is needed!
I also strongly recommend to use Lygisk instead,
which is a fork of Magisk that aims to improve support for devices with FBE that can't (and shouldn't anyways!) decrypt userdata in recovery,
this will also fix OTAs getting stuck while having installed Magisk.
Features
SELinux enforcing
AES-256-XTS FBE encryption
All cameras are working
Ramdisk is working
Known issues
VoLTE/VoWiFi

My English is not very good, so I don't understand some things. My phone is Samsung Galaxy S10 (SM-G973F), Android 12, (HVG4). The bootloader is unlocked. I am confused by these instructions, and I would like to try this.

Thanks so much for working on our device, so exited to see this new version on Android on the s10, I will wait though for it to get more mature.

It looks mostly the same as AOSP Android 12-based ROMs.

I never had AOSP installed, and I couldn't get to the images.
Has anyone installed this ROM? If it is, please write something about it for those of us who intend to install it. I hope that's not a problem?
I installed this and I need some samsung apps as well as google apps. I installed Gaaps 12.1. I don't have Google Play Store.
good morning, yes.
I reverted to stock ROM.

you can't install gaaps A12.1 on OS Android 13, i.e. you can, but it won't work, you need gaaps 13

unfortunately, you cannot have both on the AOSP system, you install gaaps for Google services, and you cannot run Samsung applications on AOSP or a pure Android system
@Linux4 will it work on G977N ?
