[Q] Youtube low resolution

Good day,
I just noticed that the youtube videos in app only go up to 360p. This is horrible. Is anyone else have the same problem? Is it just version related?
Thanks

That how the default YouTube app for Android. If you want higher, you need to root the phone and use a modded version of youtube.

In that case I would say that a Google problem? In any case, there are modded youtube app on XDA that allows 720/1080p.
It sx, I might take a look to modded apps or mod this one myself, if I find how.

If you're rooted change your android version in build.prop to 4.4.2 or 4.4.4. Then reboot and 480p will appear. 720p or higher are useless on a qHD screen.
If you want to have 720p, install app settings and then edit screen option for youtube to 600x1024, it will appear 720p option
(for better result use dpi 220 and font scale 90 too)
On xda you can find a modded Youtube version that supports 720p & 1080p. It also supports "play while screen off" = the best feature ever! Works great on my S4 Mini!

Hiding notch and videos

Hi Mate 20x users
Just wanted to ask does videos eg. Youtube and movies (vlc) gets affected by hiding the notch in the settings?
Is the notch still there even when it is disabled when watching a video?
Thanks
If you hide the notch, it stays hidden even if you zoom-in an YouTube video.

Is it possible to hide the notch automatically per app, say YouTube, VLC and Netflix but allow it everywhere else?

No. It's either always visible or always concealed.
Edit: apparently you can, wasn't aware of it.

yup
use (any) VPN to bypass 480p restrictions
It will automatically start you out in 480p but you should be able to switch to a higher resolution manually. I just checked a video and was able to put it at 1080p.
May be 480p was set automatically try to change the resolution manually... if it don't work then check for Youtube updates. Update it may be Youtube too may have some bugs..
Cheers!

YouTube other streaming services locked in DVD quality

I though this was only in India and Europe I guess now it's also the United States that steaming is locked at 480P by default and you CAN'T change it to anything higher than that. I tried to use a VPN and nope still only getting 2008 video quality

I've noticed that too. Whats your phone's regional code?
.
Due to lockdown and all these work from home. Google announced that mobile version will be restricted to 480p highest. So if u want higher quality open www.youtube.com in browser as desktop version.

I want to set it to 360. But its still default to 480 like nano303 complained about. Is there any way to set and keep it at 360 or lower?

Where??? I tried lowering it to 240 and it keeps ticking back to 480. Where in the app can you default to 360 cuz I've been all over the app and cant find this setting youre talking about.
.
Better use youtube vanced app. It has better features and background and popup play.
Latest youtube has some glitch so 13 version youtube app still works if you set to fixed resolution. So use old version of youtube or install youtube vanced best solution

Not that i aware of. But just to mind you, even if you manage to get 120, by the time it playing video, it will revert back to 60. 120 is only for the UI

Yes, the youtube app or website videos will play only at 60 fps!

It's because the video uploaded by user itself is 60fps. So 120Hz on Youtube is kinda pointless after all.
