General What would be your one more feature? - Google Pixel 6 Pro

So we pretty much know everything about the Google 6 Pro, but if you could have had one more feature which is not there, what would it be?
Returning to the Google phones from OnePlus, the face unlock alongside the in screen fingerprint reader will be the one thing I miss. Just for its added convenience.
What about you, what would be your request? Just a bit of fun whilst we wait for deliveries and the full reviews to arrive.

Drone control and flying capabilities...

For sure face unlock. It was fast and thoughtless. After that would be higher screen brightness. It always seems to be and issue with my pixels.

It should be rooted and de-Googled out of the box with Magisk pre-installed.

I second that. I'm sure it could be done securely only using 1 camera using Google's technical knowledge.

Exactly. I don't even care how secure it is. Just want the convenience. And I'm never wearing a mask.... So..... Lol.

It was rumoured it would have face unlock, so disappointed when it was not listed. Its software driven, so hopefully it will come. Its probably how 70% of the unlocks happen on my Oneplus 6T and means I keep the screen switch off set at the minimum.

The face thing on Pixel 4 XL has been pissing me off since the day I bought it. Half the time it unlocks when I don't want it to. Good riddance if it's not there any more.

Dolby Atmos

Higher battery capacity especially now that the 13 pro max has set such a high standard.

Even higher than already? Pixel 6 Pro 5005 mAh vs. iPhone 13 Pro Max 4352 mAh

I'd like to see a "Secure Folder" feature like my Samsung Notes had.

Secure folder. I am looking for something to replace this and have found nothing

There is no mobile Dolby Atmos (headphone), it's all just some fake spacial audio algorithm that makes those two speakers appear to give you a spacial experience. And that spacial algorithm runs on ordinary codecs like aptx or LDAC; ergo e.g. the Pixel 6 will also offer Sonys "spacial audio" mumbo jumbo. There is no dedicated "Dolby Atmos" compatibility or codec on phones.
There is only one Dolby Atmos and that's a dedicated speaker setup with height speakers and several (2 at least) subwoofers plus a dedicated (big) receiver/amplifier (the sort that can actually handle more than/ or at least 11 channels), the rest is fake and sounds ****ty. I'd always advise people to just get a good pair of headphones and then run viper4android with a decent custom tailored ddc, convolver and equalizer (some ddcs/convolvers are free, some are sold here on xda for a couple bucks by people who know their ****, tailored to a specific product) and that way they can actually improve their listening experience (you need root for that, though, but it's worth it 100%), instead of being sound-dumb'ed by some fake spacial schmakery.

Basically an SD Card or Headphone Jack - Can't really think what else I would want from a Hardware PoV.

I must say Apple's implementation of spatial audio on my AppleTV4K and my iPad Pro using Airpods Pro is pretty amazing. With the head tracking the sound always appears to come from the front even when you turn your head. Action scenes in movies is impressive. It may be an algorithm but they did it right.

Google's Files app has a Safe Folder

So does X-plore File Manager, but I wish there were a general Android solution, and one easily transferable from an old phone to a new one.

Not a folder just for files. One that can have apps that don't show up in regular phone searches. On my current phone I keep banking apps as well as versions of other apps that run seperate from the main phone such as outlook. And if you search for these in the app drawer or phone settings they do not show up.

Camcorder sound quality horrible. Igcamera settings?

By now we all know our live sound recording at concerts completely sucks. It sounds like muffled garbage which nullifies the point of even whipping out the ol' e4gt to record and brag to your friends later :/ I've read up and down the boards about the ig/lgcamera app on the market. I was wondering if anyone had luck in obtaining correct ig/lgcamcorder settings to achieve better sound quality? If so mind posting? I've sat w/ the app for about an hour trying all sorts of toggles. All I ever seem to see on the screen, more often than not, is some "Recording failed" BS or I have to toggle between filters before the screen unfreezes. I have 6 major concerts I'm attending this month and would really love to have better vid clips with great audio you can actually understand. Any help here would be greatly appreciated! Thanx in advance XDA Community.
our phone can only record as good as the microphone it has can record.. thats like asking how we can make a 2mp camera take 8mp quality images by just installing another camera app

Yeah the microphone sucks. I went to Iron Maiden last Friday and the sound of the videos suck.

I completely understand where you're coming from and do appreciate the input, but we can all overclock our phone with a quick updated kernel and 3rd party apps like Tegrak or SetCPU, can't we? . Have you at least read up on, or tested igcamera/camcorder before just saying it's impossible? I'm just playing devil's advocate here b/c I know lgcamcorder allows you to change the audio recording freq/rate which, in theory, will allow better audio recording inside videos I've also heard that plugging in an external mic with other apps will work too, but I haven't tried.
Update: Thanks to RubberBigPepper! He's got the latest working LGCamera app here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1677645 . After installing the apk I recorded parts of Metallica - And Justice For All a few times (JBL speakers @ 100% incl. system sound) with stock camcorder vs. lgcamcorder (changed audio encoder to AAC, Audio sample rate to 48000 and Audio bitrate to 320000). LG won that contest hands down. Don't take my word for it, check it out yourselves. I don't have a data cable w/me atm so I'll upload my comparison in a few hours.
thats because our phones hardware is able to be overclocked to a certain extent and the kernel we need because the stock kernel doesnt have the ability to be tweaked.. but hey, if you got an improvement by using a different camera and bitrate then awesome lol. i still dont think its going to sound as clear as you want it at a live recording but hopefully its at least decent for ya.. i personally NEVER use my camera for anything lol so good to know tweaking it can help somewhat

This goes along with my idea, AOKP, MIUI, and CM9 cameras function better than any TW (IMO). I say this because their ability to process light seems to be slightly more advanced, though not as advanced as the iPhone which has a far superior camera application. If the settings can be tweaked to grasp certain things in images e.g. light, exposure, focus...then why can't settings be implemented in order to achieve the same thing via camcorder? If there is an ability to mess with settings that enhance cetains audio features then the sound quality should improve. I'm interested in seing what others have to say.

Comparing quality of video/photos, you will lose every time (very few exceptions) the software is specific and until the auto features are pulled and implemented in to our devices then the picture quality will be better. I don't see where they win with sound qaulity though, background noise is a main factor on our device for me....does any here have the s3? if so can they confirm whether or not video audio is the same, maybe pulling that .apk and having some edits on the build prop would impose better values, hardware permitting! Just an idea.

Exactly, it's just absolutely unacceptable I've been w/ Android since the G1 went on presale back in the day, yo! I've got at least a dozen Apple lifers to make the switch to "'Droid". I hate selling ish and sounding like a billboard... I don't believe in it, but dammit! Our EG4T will still hold us over 'til the SGS4 comes out (in what I predict will be Spring). I live in J-ville, FL and we don't have LTE so the only benefit of upgrading to SGS3 is a faster 3g, which is irrelevant to me since I'm always on WiFi. Anywho.... LONG LIVE ANDROID, XDA, and OPENSOURCE T3CH!
I love how people come in with possibly unrelated reasons like oh we can overclock so we should be able to this and that.
About the only thing your going to be able to do here is have someone mod the camera app for a higher data rate and its at 61 kbps. Being a Mono mic that is NOT as bad as it sounds. Being Mono you need only half the data rate for the same quality. So 61 kbps is around the same as 128 which would be considered decent for AAC. If you can get that to 96 or even 128 your going to have the equivalent of 192 to 256 kbps data rates you normally use for stereo.
Sure if the sampling rate is turned down artificially you might be able to fix that. Its at 44,100 now which is fine. Max sample rate is going to be physically tied to the analog to digital converter chip.
If the mic is physically cutting out a certain frequencies and sound levels there is absolutely jack you can do about it except change it physically and you dont really know its properties as is might make selection a little more blind. Most cheap microphones are going to cut out with loud music and fail to record any bass at all. Mics that size in the 2,500 dollar range still have their own issues
Well did some testing noticed some things changing the settings for the AOSP camera versus my old stock camera recordings.
By default the aosp camera audio setting is set to 128Kbps stereo and 48,000hz. It seems the 48,000hz sticks but the audio caps out at 96 Kbps. So that said there seems to be some improvement to be had versus the stock camera application. As per my previous post this is in comparison to 44,100hz and 61 Kbps. I tried 96,000hz for kicks it does not work. AOSP has 2 channels enabled unlike stock but setting it to 1 or 2 doesnt have too much effect. I will have to test but if its writing 2 channels of mono audio it might be harmful to the quality since the overall bitrate is for both channels.
EDIT - The settings for the aosp camera vary wildly on our CM9 builds it seems every few days someone has changed this or that or maybe the source file has i do not know.
I have a friend at work with the S3.. We went to a concert together and the S3 audio was only about 25% better.. Samsung has crappy mics in their phones.. SOUND QUALITY (when compared with devices equipped with the Wolfson DAC )

Just curiuous about the sound quality of the Oppo find 7 compared with those devices carrying the Wolfson DAC .
Regardin headset output
Anyone?
I don't know about headphones but all i know is this phone has the loudest and clearest speakers i have ever seen on a smartphone. I have owned all of the galaxy models, droid dna, xperia z2, optimus g pro, nexus 4, huawei mate; to name a few. Besides the HTC Boom sound i don't think many others come close. Most of the time it is literally too loud for general use at full volume.
Thanks
But I am really interested on the headset sound quality.
No external speaker can match my JBL portable ( for phones) ..
.
Actually, it would be interesting to know what is the it's the impact (if any)of the cooperation between Waves and Wolfson ( http://www.analog-eetimes.com/en/mo...-technologies.html?cmp_id=7&news_id=222905459 ) on the find 7, since the Snapdragon processor got its own DAC...

This is my second device with Snapdragon DAC(first was a Xiaomi Mi-2) and both has a very good sound output with well balance equalizer and 0 distortion. MaxxAudio and DiracHD(in ColorOS) it's DSP and as well they put they signature efects and equalizer, this things I don't like. Comparing to Wolfson DAC in my Galaxy devices ,my iPhone 1st gen and my iPod I can't complain about quality and power output, of course they have diferent signatures of sound but every DAC and headphone has too.

I am also not that impressed with this "award winning" maxxaudio thing and I wonder if it's any better than Viper4Android as a DSP manager.
I guess I just have to take my headsets to a showroom and run some tests on another device carrying probably the same Qualcomm built-in DAC such as the HTC 1 M8.
However it could be that the HTC got another amp implementation ......

As a DSP manager MaxxAudio has a good performance and serve for his purpose that is general public and even Viper has a profile that's similar to it. Equalizers and DSP are fairly wrong because they aren't correct anything but adding something that they don't need used and makes even a great DAC like Wolfson sounds bad.
I'll be able to give you subjective views soon enough
I own the SGS3 (with Boeffla sound) and have the Oppo Find 7 coming to me within a week.
I own the Modded D2Ks (essentailly D5Ks) and Audeo Phonak PFE232s

Hey there!
Here's my impressions - I just got the phone today and have been playing around with it.
It's almost 3am here and I've got work tomorrow at 9 lol!
Sound impressions: extremely positive, it sounds great!
If I had to compare, I would say (and this is being EXTREMELY analytical of the sound, A/Bing and trying to listen out to certain parts of songs - difference isn't that obvious):
-S3 has a more meatier sound, little more bass emphasis
-S3 and Find 7 have the same output volume (or very close to it)
-Oppo Find 7 is more mid centric
-S3's soundstage is slightly wider/deeper
-Highs seem very similar
Notes:
-Tests conducted un-amped with my heavily modded D2Ks
-This was tested with the S3 using DeltaROM that has Boeflla kernel, but I made sure to disable Boeffla sound in the configurator, before stating the above results. (With Boeflla enabled, the S3 wins in every way, hands down)
-Oppo Find 7 is running stock ROM Colour OS 1.2.6i.
-Both are running Poweramp (unlocked) with flat EQs
-Both phones are on Android 4.3
End of the day, there's an extremely slight difference between the two. It isn't something like the S2's (yes numero dos) horrible chipset (as far as I'm, aware subjectively speaking), but nor is it better sounding than the S3 nor the beast the S1.
It lies between the S2 and S3's sound. Great but not as good I guess.
I listen to music a heck of a lot on my phone and I think I'll cope with with this initial listen - in other words, it's not something that will make me put it down, it's something I'll stick to and happily listen to
On a separate note: the Oppo Find 7 is an amazing phone, blistering fast, charging was ridiculously good, the camera is decent (especially the front facing one) and the Colour OS skin is the best Android skin I've ever come across (ie HTC's Sense and Samsung's TW).
However, I'm a little disappointed by its overall brightness levels , lack of pull-down notification customisation and little washed out colours.
other than those three points (which can all potentially be sorted out via a custom rom), the phone is so far flawless

PD root & camera (two questions)

Hi Guys,
I've gotten a PD now which replaced my S7, apart from the battery, bigger screen and 256GB storage there is not a lot better.
1. I'd at least like to have root - I've now only found one thread where someone nearly bricked his device.
But this thread is far more than 1y old - are there any news for root?
2. Camera: While I had the S7 before - I think the double camera here does not perform any better. From what I've seen this might be also related to compression.
While the Huawei camera-app does not support to change the compression ratio / quality, is there any know camera app which utilizes the double-sensor and does perform better than the Huawei app?
Thanks and regards,
Maeffjus

Hi,
Congratulations on picking up the PD!
I own this and the note 8 and I can honestly say the camera on the PD outperforms the note camera by miles. Active shots, where either the camera or the subject are moving come out crisp.
The only reason I bought the note was because my banking apps kept saying the Huawei is using rooted firmware when it wasn't.
Performance is much smoother than the note and just all around the phone is better. I hope you find this as well, but as you use it more, I'm sure you will agree
Hi Charm,
Normally I had not abandoned the S7, but our GM came up one day with the brand new PD and said that this phone is for for me.
(in general: I'm using a company contract that I'm allowed to use it for all private things - so this is my only phone).
As per my opinion especially in low-light the P9Pro is a lot worse.
However, I'd like to know if there is an 3rd-party cam-app that can handle the two sensors.
And while you said that due to the root your software is complaining - do you have the PD or the "normal" one? And if it is the PD, how did you root it?
Regards,
Matthias

I use full stock and even the phone is full stock. I have not rooted it, but the banking apps were saying it was rooted which is why I had to abandon it. So I have no idea how to root, but to be honest, I wouldn't root such an expensive phone.

I'd like to root it because I then can use a NFC emulator and combine my companies key for the door and the fob used for "arrival" and "leave" in our time-tracking system from my phone.
What I have found out and what is annoying AF: My bluetooth turns of from time to time by itself. This is especially no fun since I drive in my car with handsfree at lest twice a day plus got a BT connected smartwatch. Any idea how to solve this?

Nope, no lightning ports here. Bluetooth or USB-C
I would not recommend any AAC only headphones to Android. Only Apple music can use AAC codec. Also there is no value for money at all. For same or less money you have much better headphones with Aptx codec and can enjoy much better sound quality (eg via Tidal HiFi)

Android O supports AAC
Do you mean Airpods? Because they work very well.
Especially with AirBattery on the Play Store

But there is no way to get gestures to work on Android, right?

From what I've read you can't do it on Android but if you connect them to an iOS device you can change the settings and they will work on android as well.
I bought a pair of Airpods specifically for my Pixel 2xl and have had zero problems with them. I do have an iPad that I used to set up gestures and I use AssistantTrigger to add a gesture for launching Assistant, which works quite well. You may be able to set the gesture commands from that app now, even without an iPhone/iPad. From all the reviews and real world useage I saw, they were just the best quality and bang for my buck. I use them every day and like I mentioned before, have had no problems with them.
Edit: after looking at the AssistantTrigger app, I was wrong, I don't think you can set up the commands from the app.

Very disappointed with audio. What are my options

Hey guys.
I have a Pixel 2 XL and have had it for about 6 months now.
Overall I am pretty disappointed with the audio out of the phone. I am using my Ultimate Ears TF10 through a Dragonfly Black and it sounds much worse than just the TF10s through my iPhone 6s (not using the dragonfly)
I can see a few options here and seeking some feedback.
1. Root the phone (I have read on here some custom ROMs will give better gains over USB C.
2. Get a pair of Bluetooth headphones (I don't really want to do this since I already have a good set of IEMs. Also are there any restrictions with Bluetooth such as compression etc.
3. Sell the phone and go get an LG v30 with its quad DAC.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the phone but the audio is very disappointing and I spend a few hours commuting today so it's a real let down.
Let me know what everyone thinks
Thanks guys

Root using Magisk and install the following modules.
Viper4Android FX Materialized
Ainur Sauron
Audio Compatibility Patch
Audio Modification Library
Those four modules should improve the sound quality.

I am surprised you are having such a bad expierience.
The USB only audio (no headset jack) advantage is that you can use better DAC/Amps than on a regular smartphone.
My measurements of the various ones out there all show pretty decent specs (with some exceptions).
The stock Google dongle is excellent (it's a custom Realtec chip), I am testing the new one this weekend. Sure, using my gain control app will get you a bit cleaner tracing but whether that's audible or not, hard to say.
Apt X bluetooth with the Mee BT adapter is also very good.
I wonder if perhaps your transducer(s) in the headphone/IEM aren't working properly. That happened to me a couple of years ago with my SE846 and it drove me nuts until I figured it out.
Another thing to check: What source are you listening to? Your own rips (and what player), Spotify, G music etc? Let me know and we can go from there, as the problems vary between each one. Do you use the on board equalizer or any equalizer? If so what gains, bands?
I just tested the new dongle and re evaluated the USB audio in Pie - the implementation is substantially better and the gains are now properly optimized.
So, I don't think your issue is a Dac dongle problem, unless it is defective.
Thanks for the help so far guys.
Source is Spotify 320 kbps.
I don't think it's the headphones as it sounds fine when I plug back into my iPhone.
I might do some more testing this afternoon when I get home as my wife has the same phone.
I also have a pair of MEE X7 Bluetooth earphones and I am more impressed with these via Bluetooth (yes they are boomy but I can tell that the Bluetooth dac isn't being restricted)
I'll fill in once I have tested on my wife's phone tonight

Edit: NVM. I see someone else suggested viper

I don't exactly advertise it. ?
I'm running those same audio mods and have no complaints with sound... Are you sure you have everything enabled in magisk property? Is V4A showing "processing =yes" when you are playing music?
My P2XL is not rooted and on Pie.
The only thing I've really missed, so far, is Dolby Atmos.
Since it's not available for Pie, I've been holding off rooting.
While searching for an audio booster, I found this app. Believe it, or not, it sounds almost as good as Dolby Atmos. I'm still tweaking it.
