New device restore from backup partially works (no home screen, no Wi-Fi networks.. etc) - Moto G 5G Plus Questions & Answers

Hello all, I've had a long Moto G devices track, and since my old Moto G 3 for each new device I used the "restore from another Android" feature successfully.
Now I purchased 2 different Moto G 5G Plus (XT2075-3) coming from 2 different marteks I guess, one shipped with Android 10 and the second one shipped with Android 11 already.
At the end, the procedures only restored the Google account and the installed apps, but they missed at least the home screen configuration (background, icons and groups of icons in the screens) and the known Wi-Fi networks.
in facts I got a standard stock Android home screen without any personalization, and no wifi networks already set.
My last previous phone was a Moto G Pro with Android 11 stock.
In both the new 5G Plus phones, for the first time ever the procedure to automatically configure the new phone using the Google backup settings didn't complete the job.
In the first 5G Plus (the one shipped with Android 10) before the start it said that the destination device had an operating system version older than the source one and some settings could be not restored (without specifying which).
In the second 5G Plus (the one with Android 11) the alert was only that some settings could not be restored.
Another difference in the procedures: in the Android 10 one, at the time of initial configuration I could set the first Wi-Fi network by using the QR code, whilst in the Android 11 one this could only be done by typing the long WiFi WPA password, because the button to scan the QR code was not present at the time of first initialization. So I completed the initialization without setting the wifi, and only after I could scan the QR code with the camera to configure the first wifi.
I miss the restore of the home screen configuration and the known Wi-Fi networks.
Is there a way to "force" the restore of the home screen configuration and the networks?
Thank you
Ale

[Q] Where is network time sync (Tab S 10.5 Wi-Fi Stock)

I am surprised that after months and fifteen pages of Galaxy Tab S discussion no one has asked this question yet. On a 16GB wifi-only T800 model running the stock 4.4.2 Kit Kat OS, where is the option for the automatic network time synchronization?
I am looking under Settings > General > Date and Time
There is no option for automatic or network time sync. There is only a possibility to set time manually. I could post a screenshot if you wish.

Ya I noticed this too on my sm-t700 I just set the time and forgot about it
Well afaik network time sync refers to synchronising the time with a local network cell tower. If you only have wifi you cant possibly sync with the network.
However i do agree that it could easily be achieved via an internet ntp server, but that would be a different option to select and seeing as you can do this by simply installing an app, i guess the choice is left to the user.
Just got my 8.4 wifi yesterday. Opened it up, booted up, and once I connected to my home wifi the time & date auto set. I didn't have to do anything.
ingenious247, perhaps the 8.4 model comes without this issue.
ashyx,
I am personally think that the lack of option for NTP time setting should be treated like a bug. A lot of network protocols and applications rely on time being set accurately. I think nearly every network connected OS for the last 20 years had an NTP client (don't know about Win 95, but NT4 should have certainly had it). Installing a third party app does not correct this issue because you still need to root the device to make this work. I will try to break through Samsung technical support in order to report this as a bug.
Moved to Q&A
Please post questions in the correct section.
After having a few quick searches, it seems like Android does now use NTP for time synchronization, and so this is not a Samsung specific issue. Supposedly the models with GPS receivers can query the NTP servers, but I don't know if they use that information for setting time or something else. Oh well. I guess I might root my device to install a third party app for NTP support.

Verizon Lumia 735 on T-Mobile - bad signal / no LTE after 10.0.14393.1593 update

So tantalizingly close to full functionality of Verizon Lumia 735 on T-Mobile network, but after a blissful full day of trouble-free operation, back to phone not connecting to LTE, with connection to lower-speed signal cycling on and off.
Timeline:
On July 23rd, had phone working well after upgrade from WP8.1 to 10.0.14393.1480. While travelling in Canada (home service is in US) phone continued to work well. Until I connected to hotel WiFi on 8/8, and - thank you automatic updates, and why can't I find a way to make hotel WiFi be seen as a metered connection?? - received an update to 1593. But that update didn't successfully complete due to me not being connected to WiFi when system restarted later in the day. Phone stopped working reliably at this point.
At home: fresh install of 8.1 via Windows Device Recovery Tool - phone functioned well, picking up LTE wherever present. Ran that for a few days without problems.
Upgrade (via regular channel - upgrade advisor app, phone update settings panel). After all updates successfully completed, phone was again running 10.0.14393.1593. Bad behavior immediately after 1593 update, but one more power off/on restored normal operation. I had a full day of excellent operation with this setup - in fact, stronger / more consistent LTE than I had been getting with 8.1.
...and then... nothing. Phone just stopped picking up LTE, is mostly without signal, and no amount of power cycling or soft resets kicks things back in line.
I've tried:
Added MMS APN as I had done in the past here. Didn't expect that to have an effect, and it didn't. But I had that change in place last time my phone was working, so what the heck.
Showed and then selected "4G only" as highest connection speed in SIM settings. (To make option available, used Interop Tools to add registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Cellular\MVSettings\IMSISpecific\Default\CellUX\HideHighestSpeed4GOnly = dword:0). With this setting in place, network search shows multiple LTE networks available. But selecting mine (T-Mobile LTE) still resulted in SIM settings showing "no network found" for active network.
Tried to get more detailed information via Field Test (enabled ##3282# as per here, for instance. Sadly, this appears to not be a functional option for my phone. Field test launches and gives me the "do not change any values..." warning, but after I click accept, it shows nothing other than the "field test" text at the top of the screen.)
I have only guesses as to why my phone went back to crap functionality after things went swimmingly for a day: background restore of earlier backup? Silent update of one or more Windows components a day after 1593 update was completed? Attempted silent update failed? When bad behavior set in yesterday, it was a few hours after I connected to WiFi - possibly relevant. Running Pasquale Pignataro's Device Diagnostics Hub always shows "Backup Assistant Plus" as one of the processes currently running. I'm guessing this is the non-functional Verizon thing I can't delete nor configure nor run from the control panel; but since it's a Verizon thing, it could possibly be messing with my off-network bliss? Or there is a Microsoft app/agent with the same name and it had a hand in my day-after-fix problems?
Wish my question could be more focused, but that's all I've got. Hoping some of you might have an idea of where I can start digging.
After hard reset, and turning off automatic app updates, phone did pick up LTE perfectly with 10.0.14393.1593 installed, and again worked for about a day before tanking. On the bright side, the loss of functionality isn't permanent, (though it's unpredictable and finicky). Basically: Once LTE is connected properly in one location, I have a very good chance of continuing to get LTE wherever I go. However, at any point, if/when I lose LTE signal, the phone can fail to see it for reconnection - it gets stuck cycling through none/2G/3G/none... for phone signal. I've had some luck getting it back into a good state with a soft reset followed by cycling the power on/off one or more times. Sometimes that puts things right for a full day or more, but sometimes (like just now), I get back into the bad state after a short time of having LTE. Might be tied to making a phone call.
This screams software issue to me, and my gut feeling is that it's Verizon-specific software that's likely to blame. I've so far seen and ignored updates for Verizon's backup assistant, and one other that's simply "name not available". Is there a known way to uninstall the Verizon apps like backup assistant? I haven't been able to find one with my searches. Happy to muck around in the registry, etc. as needed.
Wow, you know my pain. I recently (2 days ago) jumped from Verizon to T-Mobile (job related) and have the exact same problem. Go figure... Anyway, hoping someone may have had some luck looking into this, but I am guessing not. fingers crossed. I also have the Alcatel Idol 4S Windows 10 shipping, but hoped I could keep this one kicking.
Thanks for any help.

Does Huawei EMUI has security feature that can lock the device remotely?

i just got Huawei Mate 20 recently, i'm looking for some security features, that can help users, in case we lost our phone or got stolen.
i'm looking for security feature that similar to MIUI or IOS, that can lock the device if we lost it.
in MIUI, the phone will be lock and can only be unlocked by signing in with Mi Account while connected to cellular network, it won't work with WiFi. even if somebody do a Factory Reset or re-Flashing the ROM (as long as it is MIUI Based cutom ROM), the phone will be locked again once connected to internet. and also we can track it as long as the SIM card is still attached, connected to cellular network and with "find my device" option enabled in Mi Account. we can also put some message to the lock screen. this is based on my personal experience using MIUI for almost 4 years. i'm hoping that EMUI has the similar feature.
in IOS, i got information, that IOS has the best Anti-Theft system, said that when iCloud is locked, there is no way of accessing the phone if we can't sign in to iCloud, some source also mention, if you ever forget you iCloud account, your iPhone is officially turned into garbage (please correct me if i'm wrong about this)
so, Does EMUI has the similar feature or even better one ? please let me know
note: sorry for my bad english
On your computer, go to Google.com with your Google account logged in then search "android find my phone".
From that screen you might find the feature you are looking for.

Google Pay issue

We have 9 se phones, MIUI 11, Android 10. I install Gpay, I added my Curve card last October, I paid with NFC, it worked until February. Since then, the card has been rejected by Gpay as a paypass payment device. Customer service is diverting, not doing anything.
And now comes the curiosity: I took out my old OnePlus 3 phone, installed Gpay, added my Curve card (same card, same Google account!) And it works! But only with the OnePlus phone, even though it's rooted! Mi9se is a global (MIXM) ROM. Can MIUI stir?
Tapatalkkal küldve az én Mi 9 SE eszközömről
G-Pay is not problem with Mi 9 SE (Miui and Custom roms). I am using every day. Try: https://github.com/davidramiro/gpay-gms-patch/blob/master/README.md
Hello, I had the same problem!
It turned out I had accidentally enabled the dual app feature for Google Pay, and it seems that's what causing it to glitch.
By enabling dual app with Miui, the phone creates a "Twin" app that enables the user to work on 2 apps at once, it seems that's what cause it to glitch.
The instructions they gave me are the following:
"1.Go to the Device Settings. Scroll down and touch "Dual applications".
2. Check if the dual applications are turned off. In the same window, tap the settings button (gear icon) in the top right corner.
3. Tap Dual application accounts> Delete data from dual application accounts.
4. Restart your device and open Google Pay."
After that remember to unlink the card completely and trying to re-link the card.
I hope it helps!
The problem persists.
I'm starting to think that the phone itself or its software is the cause of the problem.
I tried multiple NFC-enabled phones with the same Google Account and the same Curve credit card.
Phones tested:
Oneplus 3, Huawei P Smart, Sony Xperia M4.
It works on all of them, only Mi9Se rejects touch payment.
The phone is intact, BL is not open, no root, MIUI: Global 11.0.4.0 (QFBMIXM)
???????????????
PLS Help!
No one?
I just can't believe that Gpay touch payment has been working on the phone for almost half a year, then from one moment to the next it no longer works and there is no explanation or solution!
As I wrote, it works on every other type of phone I can find nearby. This will also start the registration and I will get a "touch registration cannot be completed" error message.
Since it works on several other phones (including OnePlus 3, which is rooted with an open loader), I can only imagine that either the type (MI 9Se) is banned from the system or its software.
I want to use this phone for my daily work, I should with Gpay NFC!

Log in screen for certain wi fi not appearing

Redmi Note 8, Global 11.0.9.0. PCOMIXM
Taken out the MIUI browser, Chrome and downloads (amongst many others) and replaced with Brave browser and Download Navi.
In a particular place I have to log in with a password on a separate screen. On my very old previous phone (rooted) it used to notify me and I then had to choose which browser as had 2 installed - it remembered the password and just had to hit register or some such command.
When I enter this place my phone shows connected but there is no internet connection and I do not get to see the splash screen to log in - even forgetting/cancel network and switching off and on the wi fi - which is what I had to do before as had AF Wall installed and had to switch that off as well.
I am sure this worked before I got rid of the existing apps. Would making Brave a system app make any difference for example?
Any other suggestions? (I have to use this place a lot so not going there is unfortunately not an option
