Checking for the software update
[Please check your device to see if you already have the latest software installed. Verify your Build number matches the official build by checking Settings -> About phone -> Build number. See section below]
After you complete the phone setup, the software update automatically downloads silently in the background. After the download completes, it will prompt you to reboot the phone. In case the software update is not seen, follow the instructions below:
Go to Settings -> System -> System update -> Check for update
Install the software update
Depending on your network connection speed and amount of apps involved, this will take about 25-50 minutes
Reboot the device after taking the update
Updating your apps
Many of the key apps have new features and improvements for Pixel 6. Please check to make sure that your apps are up to date by going to Play Store -> Your Account Icon -> Manage apps & device -> Update all.
Timing
Due to deployment timelines and staged rollouts, some updates may not be available until 10/28.
Software update Build number
After the software update, your device software version (Settings -> About phone -> Build number) will be be one of the following:
SD1A.210817.036
SD1A.210817.036.A8 (Verizon customers)

Already updated to SD1A.210817.036 with SP dated 05/11 (UK) edited for typo

My unlocked Pixel 6 Pro purchased from Google Store USA has SD1A.210817.019.C2 and no updates.

No update yet. Here's to hoping for sometime today or tomorrow.

Mine is updating now, 64.35 MB, I'll update with before and after build numbers when it finishes.
EDIT: Almost an hour later and it's still optimizing apps, around 50%. Took about an hour and a half and a reboot, finally updated.
Unlocked model from Google Store USA.
Before:
Build Number: SD1A.210817.019.C2
Android security update: Oct 5
Baseband: g5123b-91479-210916-B-7738070

Build Number: SD1A.210817.036
Android security update: Nov 5
Baseband: g5123b-92009-211008-B-7805583

Taking a long time. Really sweet phone.

My P6 Pro still can't find the update
Supposedly the update should fix my fingerprint reading issues, so I'm sorta stoked to see that one comin' rather sooner than late.
Any way to force it? Stil no factory images/OTA, so I'm out of options.

No update here yet either (Google Store Unlocked on the Verizon network).

Does it really fix fingerprint issues? do we have the changelog?

No changelog yet that I am aware of, only reports of people claiming that after the update you have to re-learn the fingerprint scanner and then it supposedly works better.

Too many video games, I guess. Was half asleep and forgot that that's just not how this works lol
Lousy timing on AT&T. I have been trolling waiting for this update and got really excited. Would have been OK with even an update to unlock the FM radio but alas, we just have a generic update.

I'm no expert, but the way I think it works is that if your phone's not AT&T branded you won't get the update as they are AT&T version specific. If you want to check for and get any kind of updates you'll probably have to go through Samsung's Kies program.
Sorry, misread on the unlocked part.
I just got lots of updates from the play store, one of which is the new Samsung Browser that is included in 6.0 Marshmallow

Android's April security update tackles another Stagefright flaw
You'll want to update in short order.
Google's monthly Android security updates are nothing new, but its latest release may be particularly important. The new April update tackles eight critical vulnerabilites that include one in the libstagefright library -- you know, the same media framework that recently faced a rash of real and potential exploits. It also patches a nasty kernel flaw that would give attackers full control over your device. You'll get first crack at the fixes if you either have a Nexus device or can install an Android Open Source Project build, but other vendors that offer Google's monthly updates will likely follow suit before long.
Now tell me that i do not need this update!

Relax no one's gonna target you and "hack into your phone" if your worried about stagefirght then you shouldn't rely on att or Samsung for that matter to patch it, consider using a texting app that offers protection instead like textra. Anyway good luck finding that 60mb insignificant update file that no one will bother to upload
Stagefright was patched way before this and even though we just got the update, we still don't have the latest patch

The most important question, were you guys able to keep root, or install root after updating to Nougat? Thanks!
Yeah, with unlocked bootloader it's easy, just flash a zip in TWRP
Thank you Lonixlon, have you personally updated your X Force while having TWRP? I had a problem with installing OTA security patch as phone booted directly to TWRP. Do you know any workaround for that?
can anyone help this guy to share OTA file?
My idea, maybe stupid and wrong - Update arrives depending on the CID of the phone.
The version of the system says "retapac", which stands for "Retail Asia Pacific" - a retail version of the phone for Asia and the Pacific.
But I do not understand what is written in "On the phone" before upgrading to NUGA. Take on incomprehensible things, mismatches, in the version of Android, the Baseband version, the system version and the build number. In the build number is very old version of the system mpks24.78-8-12, in the version of the system is the latest version of the system with the upgrade to 6.0.1, but here the old version 6.0 and the old modem.
I have a lot of questions without answers ...

Well, may I express my opinion here too. I have an XT1581 Kinzie from China, it came with Lollipop 5.1.1. Workling perfect.
I go and update it to MM 6.0 using a Mexican or LKatin America rom, I keep the modem for the baseband from the Lollipop 5.1.1 Chinese rom, everything works almost better than before, not a single issue.
Now,m I tried to update it to Nougat 7 following the Google+ guide, a nightmare, although an enjoyable one!
First, I have only one sim working, no wif. Try anoth system, now I have two sims OK but still no wifi.
At the end, after many trials, I went back to my old MM 6.0 LAt rom, backed using TWRP, and the system is back to normal with everything working OK.
Did you ask me if I'm going to change? Nope, I'm happy the way things are, unless an official Nougat 7 ir 7.1.1 rom comes by, not loosing other time.
I agreemthere is a lot of confusion between the various roms and regions.
This news about the update and the video is very similar to the fake... Just why from such an ordinary case as an update do such a stupid circus?
not yet arrived in Indian version XT1580
neither for reteu.retfr
I have moto x play, is that mean android nougat not so far from us...??

Monthly Security Patches for Honor-6x

Hallo guys & gals, I wanted to ask you guys about monthly Security Patches as Google has made bound all the OEMs to release monthly security patches for their devices. In this regard most of the devices are getting monthly or at least once in a couple of months but my Honor-6x is not getting any OTA update since April 2017.
Do you guys have any idea or does any body have any Honor 6x with a more recent security update patch?

Every month lol. The best Joke i have read.
Well, it depends on the region, US models are rarely updated (unlike EU and Indian variants)
I saw in your signature that your phone model is BLN-21. Could you check if your build ends with B360? If yes, an update should come out soon but meanwhile you should be able to force it, by going on system update > tap on the 3 dots in the upper right corner > download latest update (if the option isn't there you cannot force it yet)
As you can see in these screenshots, in the 1st system update says that there aren't updates; in the 2nd, the option mentioned above is the first of the list, and finally in the 3rd i can download the update
Whoops i forgot the third screenshot, here it is
Well guys as you can see in my shared screen shot my device is on B361 of update level and the region is actual Pakistan which falls under middle east region. Now I actually created the thread to make it sure, whether my region is getting updates or not?
And thanks, @RedSkull23, I have tried your suggestion but as you see my device is already on B361.
I think my real problem is the update via firmware finder, and that's why my device isn't getting OTA updates. As the below screen shot reveals my device is on B361 but the security patch is 5 April 2017, and it is the time when this update was released and I updated my device through FF, since than I have tried a lot but I couldn't get any OTA update.
Sent from my BLN-L21 using Tapatalk
When I still had my 6x, the patch would come about 10-15 days after Google released it. Couldn't say it's timely, but it indeed come monthly.
Btw, I have a Chinese model 6x.
Monthly in China ? And others can go to hell ?
I had to push B365 after about 3 months after B360. Others don't get it at all.

Can you check or, do you remember if previous build number matches with the number of your actual build, or if not? If they doesn't match, maybe the FF update you did has moved you on a different build number, and so your software update won't find nothing because that's the latest package of your ACTUAL build, instead of the previous. Personally, i get confused every time that i finish to speak about FF updates because with all that packages stored and selectable, the number of possibilities that could provoke an issue are too much to be hold in mind at the same time
You are absolutely right FF has its very serious pros & cons. And yes, I think I remember the previous build number of my device, it was B360 and I did a full package download and dload upgrade on my device, and I also remember I was too much enthusiastic to find a sulotuion for the FM radio problem, yet in vain.

Question Google play services update

Hi it's been a long time since I posted on here. So I have the 6 pro on Verizon. I'm just got the December security update. But my Play services update is stuck on October 1. My wife had the 6 on Verizon and hers is on November and has been for some time now it's 8n the process of updating to the December security update. Is there any way to force the play services update? It's annoying because I have a top line phone only a year old and google is supposed to be the best
Settings Security then play store update

Same here ... Play-systemupdate still on October ... I did get a few updates Play-systemupdates recently (and that made some apex files change version) but the date is still October 1. I am not sure what criteria are being used to bump these upgrades. I am on an unsupported country/carrier though (not sure if this anything to do with it). Edit: Probably not as you are on Verizon.
Anyway, previously I would always get the Play-systemupdates at the END of the month. But now it is Dec 6 and I'm not even on the November one.
It will come ... eventually ... I don't think there is a way to 'force' ...
same here.
Hello, good day... You can force installing the .apk directly. I always do it from the apkmirror page. I leave you the link so you can try it. I think they have only released the date of November 5th.

My wife had the 6 on Verizon and hers is on November and has been for some time now it's 8n the process of updating to the December security update. Is there any way to force the play services update? It's annoying because I have a top line phone only a year old and google is supposed to be the best

Hello, good day... You can force installing the .apk directly. I always do it from the apkmirror page. I leave you the link so you can try it. I think they have only released the date of November 5th.

Hey, yeah I installed the force update apk but it didn't work. I'm still on October 1st security patch.

Well that appears to have worked. But i seem to remember someone saying that all that does is change. The version number. It doesn't actually do anything. I really Don't know how to check that so I really Don't know
Thank you all for your insight into this

That is correct. It is useless to just install that apk manually. It only bumps the date but does not do an actual update of the Google play-systemupdate. Check the logcat (linux):
Code:
> adb logcat | grep Finsky
then activate the upgrade from the settings and you will see if it really updates anything at all.
You wil see (for example):
Code:
12-07 09:36:04.166 6310 6310 I Finsky : [2] zft.z(4): SysU: No available system update
Well unfortunately I forgot about that until. After I did it. So now my new question is will I be able to get the actual update when it arrives for me or because my device is now reading the November 1 update am I stuck? And how to fix that if that's the case?
I got 2 play services updates today. My wife's pixel 6 got 1. But more concerning I noticed that my privacy and security are not combined like my wife's is. I read that that was part of the feature drop. I did get the December security update which should have had the feature drop on it. So what is going on? The only difference is my wife's pixel 6 is from the Google store my 6pro is Verizon branded.
The privacy and security combined needs an additional flag to be enabled which was not part of the general Google December update. Probably this flag is enabled for Verizon builds. See here:

I got 'another' play systemupdate this morning.
What I have noticed is that it updates:
Code:
com.google.mainline.primary.libs 331058000
to:
com.google.mainline.primary.libs 331060020
Then, for some reason, this update gets reverted and a few days later it just comes back.
Date is still stuck on October 1.
Check before/after with below linux command (it will show the version of all apex packages):
Code:
adb shell pm list packages --apex-only --show-versioncode | sed -e 's/package://g' | sed -e 's/versionCode://g' | awk '{printf "%-45s %25s\n", $1, $2}' | sort

It must not be enabled on the Verizon build because my wife's phone is from the Google store and it's a 6 mine is Verizon branded pro. But actually I don't think there is a specific Verizon build this month . I don't know but anyway it's really not a big deal if that's all it is. Thank you for showing me that article. I always get the answers I need here.
Just received the November Google play-systemupdate now ...
So be patient, it will come eventually. Version changes:

Same here ... Play-systemupdate still on October ... I did get a few updates Play-systemupdates recently (and that made some apex files change version) but the date is still October 1. I am not sure what criteria are being used to bump these upgrades. I am on an unsupported country/carrier though (not sure if this anything to do with it). Edit: Probably not as you are on Verizon.
Anyway, previously I would always get the Play-systemupdates at the END of the month. But now it is Dec 6 and I'm not even on the November one.
It will come ... eventually ... I don't think there is a way to 'force' ...
