Hinge screw type? - Motorola Razr 5G Questions & Answers

Hi everybody, I've had the motorola razr 5g now for about a year and I noticed that the screw that holds the cover plate over the hinge is missing. It looks like a torx bit, I will test the size with an iFix it kit sometime soon on the other one, but I also am wondering if anyone knows what kind of thread it has, or the length. I am a little disappointed with Motorola, I contact the customer service and they are pretty much stonewalling me. They won't just provide the screw, they want me to send it in for service and since I am 4 days past owning it for a year now they are not honoring the 1 year warranty. Which is technically fair, but a bit frustrating. I cannot justify paying for shipping and service so someone can use a screwdriver. I asked them once again to just send me the screw, I would even pay for it, or to at least tell me what type of screw it is, but I am not hopeful for my odds in getting either of those things. So I thought I would reach out to the broader community. Here is a picture of the missing spot. Let me know if this belongs in a different topic, I though it might fit here.

Are there 2 or just one?
If 2, pull the second one to get the length (test on other side) and thread size/type.

Check your pockets etc, sometimes you get lucky.
A local repair shop might be the easiest way.

Hi, thank you for that suggestion, there are two. I will have to see about pulling it out I do have a micrometer packed in a box somewhere. I am still unsure how to find the thread style once I have it though.
Yeah I have been looking in my pockets I even tried to look in the washing machine. So far no dice.
It's a shame I have otherwise loved this phone the form factor is great and I actually get about 2-3 days on the battery since I use the tiny outside screen for a lot of things.

Hi everyone, a small update to this topic. I was able to talk with a repair shop that told me this is the likely part number for the screw I am looking for, SM88C67068. They unfortunately didn't stock it, but I thanked them for being more helpful than motorola. Googling that number gave me a spread sheet with this information associated with the part, SCREW, M1.4x2.4L,2.5x0.30HD, SL,NAT4.
I also pulled the other screw out to have a look, it has a torx 0 head and is pretty short. It is not just a straight screw. It has a tier to it and a fine thread.

[Q] GSM crack screen replacement

Hello
I've seen a couple threads on the issue but I find no right answer to my question. Does anybody know of a reliable, hopefully cheaper source to replace a cracked screen on a Galaxy Nexus?
I am in Spain for a while, called Samsung, they sent me to "the phone house" which required a store visit where they informed me it'd cost me 1 week wait plus 180€ for the replacement.
I find the cost excessive, only the glass needs replacement, the screen itself is working perfectly.
Do you know of any alternative, hopefully cheaper, to this?

PS: In case anyone's interested, here's the backstory: I dropped my phone on a hard surface a week ago. It was my fault as all drops are. I believe the amount of cracking is unreasonably large for the drop it took (less than 1m plus it had to yank my earbuds off, so even less "free fall energy"); it makes me think the screen was under heavy stress already and just took the slightest chance it could get a hold on to completely unravel the entropy within but that's just me.
it was also my fault not to have a bumper/case. As I said, I am in Spain right now and the cases are nonexistent in general stores but then again, my fault, should have bought online.
Pretty sure on a samoled the glass and the screen are one piece. They are fusing everything together to make it thinner.

New product - Liquipel - just purchased.

Okay guys.
So I just got my 4S back from these guys, and wow, I am honestly amazed.
I saw them on my local news a few days ago, and figured what the hell. Apparently they put your phone through a process that binds their product on a molecular level, and makes it "waterproof" I didn't think it'd work as good as in the videos but it really does.
Essentially what happens is, you pay and ship your phone to them. Within a day of receiving it, they treat your phone and send it back. (can do the express version for 10$ more)
I sent my phone in on a monday, received it back on that thursday. I then decided to put it to the test. filled up my sink (about a foot and a half deep), closed my eyes, and submerged my 4s. To my astonishment, I opened my eyes and the screen was still on! I was even able to type a message to my girlfriend telling her I was texting her from underwater xD
I then answered a call in the shower the next morning and all worked fine! Its been a week since Ive gotten my phone back and have done the sink trick countless times to impress my friends, and it still works like new hehe. just thought id share, seeing as a good waterproof case for the 4s is about 20$ more.

try emailing them? I thought i read somewhere on there site that they can usually make accommodations for devices not on the list..
And they JUST started taking orders at CES, so they should expand the supported devices soon if theyre doing this good. pretty great start imo xD

My understanding is they coat internals of phones & simply keeps the water from corroding intricates.
My initial question was how speaker would still operate as it "coating" not hampering its performance but its answered on websites FAQ.
My question now lies in...if they coat everything that's good BUT what happens when you switch batteries...if the contacts of the battery weren't coated I'd think it could/would short out. No?

Good question. You might have to email them on that one. I don't have to worry about it since my battery isn't "removable" lol
While I understand the application to any iOS devices because they are naturally closed.
But to other devices you get some variation of success.
The most important areas are the jack ports, speakers, mics, buttons, screws and edges of the opening-backside.
They probably coat the display too "just in case" but that should deteriorate the quality of the touchscreen.
And coating the innards is not necessary, but helps as "secondary insurance" but I'd be worried about the warranty getting void.
We need a device like the NOTE entirely Aluminium-Unibody with only the bottom lip opening up for removable battery, SIM, microSD (like the HTC Legend).

It sounds like your completely guessing at what "it" does and how its applied. I on the other hand decided to investigate BEFORE acting as if i knew what it was we are discussing.
1. Its applied via vapor,in a vacuum chamber environment, so as to completely coat inside and out, all parts of said device. The coating is 1000 times thinner than a human hair and therefor does not change the way the phone feels or functions(screen response)
2. speakers are not effected because they too are waterproofed in the same nano tech molecular bonding process.
3. When you submerge your device once coated, water does completely run THROUGH your device. Short circuit cannot be obtained because the liquid cannot make contact to the positive and negative/grounding surfaces because of said thin/nano layer of protection. although it repels liquids, it still allows all existing electrical pathways to function without flaw, and will conduct electricity thus allowing for the capacitive functions to work also.
4. This technology was not designed to make your phone "UNDERWATER" proof, and they recommend not submerging any device in liquid. In the case that your phone falls from your hoodie pocket into the toilet, you can retrieve (and hopefully) rinse your device before electrical failure/short occurs. Its a backup plan for accidents, not a solution for mobile underwater photography or social networking.
These statements are not conjecture. this is what happens when you read and investigate what youve read.

I on the other hand became very curious about said tech, and therefor did the research needed to contribute to this discussion.
There are no what if this happens in this case because the are selling a tested product, and have limited device compatibility - for now.
I was hoping that when i saw a new post on this thread that it was someone with valuable information, trying to fill gapps of knowledge, but it was just "what if's" and "probably's"... come on. If you want to pm me about what ive learned about this product, ill be happy to share anything else i have with anyone. Need Advice on Selling N2

I would like to sell my N2 for a reasonable price, but not get ripped off at the same time.
The device was only used for a total of 3 months...
HOWEVER, it has a tiny crack next to the captivate buttons which is easily covered by a case...
The crack is not even on the digitizer/ screen viewing part.
& the issue is, whoever I show to trade/ sell use that as a major bargaining point, and I really dont care to waste my time with that or fixing it to get a better price.
I just want to unload this thing as quick as possible at a decent rate....cause my wife got me a N3 for xmas...and we need the money.

Damage is damage is damage... It renders the "three months use" positive point you had kinda moot. (Sorry.)
Depending on the shape of the crack and its direction there's always a concern that it could spread.
FWIW, LNIB/BNIB Note 2s are advertised for 350-400$ in my local classifieds, check your market and adjust accordingly. (Without having seen said crack, I'd w.a.g. at 275-300$ for yours.)
Try emphasizing its legitimate provenance by supplying proper documentation? Blacklisted IMEIs are a growing concern after all.
Take multiple, clear pictures for your ad, lets would-be buyers know what they're getting into. (Too many browse these things like inattentive idiots, but it can't hurt in filtering out some people.)

For those curious about that plastic insert on metal banded 360s...

When I saw the plastic inserts on the metal band Moto 360, I got excited because I thought Moto had finally rectified the issue with the potential cracking back. I was hoping/assuming that it would be a softer plastic insert to absorb some of the pressure put on it by the metal band. Well, if you take a look at the attached pics, you will see that, unfortunately, I was wrong. The plastic is VERY brittle. I was wearing the watch when I tilted my wrist reaching for something and heard a snap/pop sound. I thought for sure the back just cracked, but it had not. Instead the part of the plastic insert that sits between the band and the back completely snapped off. Now, (it's kind of hard to tell but) it looks like the metal is now pushing up against the back. It's obvious that metal beats plastic as evidenced by the fate of the insert. So I'd imagine it's only a very short matter of time before the back cracks. Oh, and this happened LESS THAN 24 HOURS after purchasing the watch. I'm wondering if maybe the insert may have been slightly cracked to begin with because the other one seems fine. Also, this is already my SECOND metal 360, as the first had what was either a tiny bubble or some sort of reflective debris under the screen.
Has anybody else had this issue with the inserts? I'm wondering if I should exchange it, or just get a refund and wait for the 2nd gen Moto 360. Other than this issue, I REALLY LOVE this watch, which is why I'm struggling with returning it.
FULL DISCLOSURE: I do have tiny, girly-man wrists, and I wear the watch somewhat loose as I like to wear my watches lower on my wrist (closer to my hand, pretty much resting on it).

Mine just snapped, same thing. No way in * am i going to send this back and wait four months for a replacement that will most likely have dead pixels or other issues after the h**l ive been through getting this one shipped to me from them the first time and all the cracked backs for other people with OEM bands that are leather. If they refuse to send me replacement plastic links at no cost free expedited shipping I'm going to file every consumer fraud report on them that exists after the bs they are putting me and others through with the nexus 6.

I have a 22mm natural steel moto360(Serial #P0******GX) that I have had for less then a week. Before this version I had the horween leather version bought from best buy, I returned the leather version within 14 days because the back of the watch cracked from the leather strap putting pressure on the plastic back(Sic design flaw). I ordered the 22mm natural steel band version from you directly online at your site with moto care insurance. Today the plastic link that you added between the 22mm steel watch band and the watch body to correct said design flaw snapped on one side -- this IS a user serviceable part, when you purchase the 22mm natural steel watch band for $80 seperately it comes with this tiny plastic peice, and users are able to get new metal links sent to them when requested as well which are much harder to put on yet are STILL user serviceable parts. Well, Eddie insured me I could have a replacement plastic link protector peice sent to me and gave me this number to call to speak to the moto360 specialists: 866-320-4780 Well I called them, I spoke to jose who told me that I would have to return the watch and wait two weeks for a full replacement, this is absurd, there's not a damn thing wrong with the watch or watch band, I demanded to speak to the manager, and Jose hung up on me. I'm not returning my watch and going without it for two weeks after the hell ive been through just to get a tiny plastic peice worth less than a penny -- if that's the case I'll just wait until the back of the watch completely snaps or smash it myself because you guys created a faulty design and then motorola is out more money not me as they will have to replace it no questions asked. If there's some other resolution here I would be glad to hear about it as would everyone else with this problem over on xda and the other android forums who I will be reporting to with our chat transcript, any support is appreciated.

So i'm just going to wear it until the back snaps, then take a sledgehammer to it and send it back to them in peices in an envelope for return.
I'll continue to do this until they fix the user support problems, eventually they will get tired of me costing them money on watches.
I just want to add, that after being passed around alot more online chat support people who were "in the wrong department to assist me" and being hung up on a few times I finally found my way to the moto360 forum on motorola.com's official website.
I posted my problem there and I was actually able to get some real help from people that knew what I was talking about, and it seems like this issue is going to be passed up the food chain so that hopefully I and others in the future who break this plastic protector peice do not have to do a full rma return procedure.
Nothing has come of it yet, but it sounds promising, I will update when further progress is made.

Yeah. I decided to return mine and not even bother with an exchange. I don't want to have to worry about RMAing it every month for a cracked back, especially since it appears to be a lottery on whether you get a good unit or not. Since I LOVED having an Android Wear device, I knew I'd miss having one. So I lucked out and picked up a LG G Watch for $80 + a $50 Google Play credit from Best Buy yesterday (so probably cost me like $40 after selling the code for like $40). Yeah, it's not as pretty as the Moto 360 is, but that price was too good to pass up. Hopefully, it should get me by until they fix the issue or come out with the 2nd gen 360. Having notifications at a glance is so much more convenient than I ever thought it would be. Good luck to you and everyone waiting for them to rectify the issue. I really do hope Moto get their act together for you guys.
My watch had the black plastic piece break as well after two weeks. Of course it happened after the two week best buy return period. The black piece is still installed, just had a few pieces break off. I figure I'll wait a week or two for a Motorola response.
I'm on my 2nd watch. Bought it from BestBuy and got the 2 year replacement too. They took the first one back because of the cracked back. It was a full semicircle from each side of the band. I googled a bit and found Moto saying its a warranty issue for cracking backs. I'm extra cautious now with mine. Even if its not an issue and no one ever sees it, I know the crack is there. I have about 21 months still of replacements from BestBuy. My bet is that a new model will be out within 2 years and eventually I'll get store credit towards a new one.
One of my little black spacers just cracked too. Only been wearing the watch since Christmas. Any updates on the people just trying to get this one piece replaced?

I received my 360 for Christmas from my wife (silver metal band)...the day after Christmas, I felt something poking my wrist while wearing the watch...one of the black spacers was cracked and had a sharp point on it.
I had tried going the route of chat help and calling the support number...
Every rep I spoke to (about 5) was telling me that they do not make these spacers for individual replacement. I would have to send my watch in to have it repaired...or I could purchase a new band and it would come with the new spacers. I told them that this was absolutely unacceptable to me.
...I went to Twitter and asked for help with this issue...that afternoon I received a response from them asking for my name and information. I was told that someone would be in touch with me soon (which I was expecting the run around again). To my surprise, when I came home from work the next day...there was a fedex envelope for me containing 4 spacers.
Needless to say, the sharp piece ended up falling off but the band still feels pretty solid. I have opted to hold off on replacing it until I actually need one, but I'm grateful that they were able to replace it (and send me a few extras just in case).
Help is out there...just have to go to a public audience to get it
I have questions about the help you get from the Moto chat...one rep was telling me that they do not use any plastic on the metal band version, that I must have purchased a different device or a counterfeit and that I would have to go to a local jeweler for help fixing my watch.

I have questions about the help you get from the Moto chat...one rep was telling me that they do not use any plastic on the metal band version, that I must have purchased a different device or a counterfeit and that I would have to go to a local jeweler for help fixing my watch.

Well after reading about all the cracked backs due to the steel bands I have decided on remains with my leather band.
The design of the 360 is fantastic look wise but has an inherently bad flaw due to the position of the band and pin locations. Yes there is a design flaw.
I have had other Moto products, I had a Moto x first generation and very familiar with moto's design flaws. The Moto x had a Kevlar back which cracked and yes mine did crack in around the volume and power buttons.
I guess sometimes beautiful designs don't always work as planned.
I do think Moto has and will improve upon their next generation Moto 360 or design pin attachments that sits tight in the band slot.
If I had the right tools or time I could easily design an attachment that would prevent the steel band from cracking the plastic back.

Pretty close, although I would prefer if that extension pin would be fixed. I would have also preferred if screws would be used rather than the typical expansion wrist band pins, this would allow for much easier and user friendly customization
Just and update. Going the twitter route worked out well. Received two plastic spacers today priority through FedEx. All I had to really do was send a pic in an email.
I did go ahead and order the m180 from steelconnect for when these spacers break. Might have to get another band as the moto band probably won't look right with it. Will have to wait and see.
Overall I was impressed with the moto support I had through twitter/email.

i hope the plastic on my black metal band doesn't give out
since i'm in Canada, i'm not sure i'll receive the same level of support
I guess it pays to have a big wrist. I've had my 360 since September with a bunch of different bands both metal and leather with no cracked back. But, with a big wrist the band leaves the watch perpendicular to the housing and doesn't touch the back.

If you wear your watch literally on your wrist where your joint moves, then this will be the reason why you were able to break the plastic inserts. By wearing it on my arm, no matter how far I bend my wrist naturally, it doesn't cause any pressure that could break the plastic inserts or the back.
It's likely how you're wearing the watch that's the cause.

General Backcover of my Galaxy Fold 3 started Bulging/Swelling!!!

This happened after two failed attempts to fix my Fold 3 at the Official Samsung Service Plaza in Cologne! They said, probably the glue "just didn't stick right" the first time around and pressed it again. But a day later the bulge/swelling returned!
I don't believe anymore that it had anything to do with the glue in the first place. To me, it seems like the technician didn't know what he does or was in a rush and failed to assemble it properly. Either something like the Mainboard or Charging Pad isn't seated right in place and it's pushing against the back, or the Battery is swelling.
Samsung is expecting me to visit them, the 3rd time now! But my trust in this SCP is completely gone!
My Fold 3 arrived defective. I didn't return it in order to not loose my Trade-in, Pre-Order bonuses amongst other factors. I trusted my Brand New, nearly 2000€ investment in the hands of these People and they manage to mess up twice.
Samsung refuses to exchange it. What should I do? Did someone else had a similar situation and can maybe offer some advice?
Not sure what I'm looking at here, other than lots of scratching and scraping and moving the phone around on a piece of styrofoam or something.
visit your local consumer advocate, make a better video and tweet it @ some Samsung Europe higher ups. basically get all profile and legal armament you can so that you can to PR shame them into action.
if not that then go around the people telling you no, find their boss and then find his / her boss.

sign up to twitter and tweet a short (better) video at tech bloggers, journalists and influencers, it's their followers and reach you're trying to co-opt. Louis Rossman would be a good place to start.

If you pre-ordered, doesn't it come with 1 year if Samsung care plus? Are they saying you have to keep sending it in for repairs?
@dreamtheater39 pr0n like in Flip 3 unboxings? no all jokes aside sadly I wasn't able to use my Fold 3 yet. It's been in my drawer since I got it.

@gordec I do have 1 year Care+ Protection that's right. But Why should I use it in this case? Care+ ist for things that are my fault like smashing the F3 on the ground breaking it's screen. And they also want a flat fee of 150€. In my case it's should be covered under warranty.

Yeah. I agree Samsung needs to fix this. I wasn't sure if Care plus applies to your situation. You don't have a Samsung store near by do you?
As you are from germany, they need to replace it or give the money back after second attempt of repairing.

My local Samsung Service Plaza in Cologne Germany did this my Fold 3. The technician probably had no experience and didn't assemble it correctly.

I've always thought it takes 3 attempts for me to be able request such thing. But you are the second person now who said after 2 attempts!
I've wrote Samsung now and waiting for a reply. I just want a fair start with a new device which isn't defective by arrival.
I've seen this on many Moto phones. Cheap batteries or overheating such as leaving them on the dashboard of your car in the sun. The battery will swell up.

I have the same thing on my fold3. Just only bulging on the hinge side. It was like that on delivery.
The shop couldn't see what I really meant, but said I could send it in for repair. I didn't wanna leave my phone for 2 week though, so I just live with it, but it's annoying on such an expensive device.
Did you get it fixed?
Just gluing the back when the battery is swelled is a temporary fix.
I would imagine a swollen battery also takes quite a hit in battery life.

I've heard of phones swelling before but really have never seen it!
Bulging swelling is usually a battery issue I had it happen to me with my Pixel C Tab. Maybe if you haven't already try there online chat support you might have better luck with them starting a return process
Yup. Mine is like that as well. Switched for a new unit and its the same. What a shame. If i press it down. It stays down for a while. But after that it "lifts" again. And the worse part is that i was using iPhone for the past year because im afraid of this happening on a Samsung(iPhones uses screws to hold the back while Samsung uses Glue). Surprise...
Im from Indonesia by the way. OP is from Germany. So i guess this isnt a region related issue.
