Also, do you know if you can flash the US carrier one over the A1 version? Would that break your phone or can you just use the US carrier version instead?

I know this is already answered, but if you're using the phone on a carrier in the United States, use the US Carrier image.

I would suggest that the firmware variant you want to use is always in relation to where you're going to use it, and nothing else. EMEA (A4) for anyone in Europe, Middle East, and Africa. A repeated question is whether folks in the United States should still use the U.S. Carrier version even if they have a factory unlocked Pixel. The answer is always, if you're on a U.S. Carrier, use the U.S. Carrier version, so I would proceed with the same logic for A4 or the others.

Why is anyone in the us not getting the ota? I have been checking everyday. I have had multiple pixels and never had to wait for a ota

I've heard rumors that they stopped pushing the update. Just rumors, though, so no idea if it's true. I haven't noticed articles confirming this, so I'm not much help.

I'm still waiting too. I'm in the US purchased unlocked from Google store using Google Fi.

I'm thinking it's just a very, slow rollout. Both the factory images and the full OTA images are still up so I don't think they would pull the rollout via GMS and leave the images up (unless there was a problem with that particular way of updating). But hey, you never know with Google

Better to sideload generic or Verizon specific OTA on Unlocked(google) phone?

Title pretty much says it all. I've seen a couple people ask similar questions in various threads, thought I would ask you all here.
For those of us who have the Google Play Store version unlocked phones and are running them on the Verizon network, which is the more appropriate OTA for us to sideload, use with Magisk etc?
Thanks

Use the Verizon one
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
I see no reason to use the Verizon one other than it will probably install verizon bloat with it. Everything works on the factory images with the Verizon network.
There's no bloat, you get a different radio on the VZW one.

I didn't root yet. I just unlocked the bootloader. Depending on the development that we get for this device I may not. I have my OG pixel XL that I switch back and forth to. Plus I am waiting to see if any other issues arise with the XL 2 before I do too much with it.

I have a Google store phone with a Verizon SIM, I sideloaded the generic OTA a few days ago, didn't think about the radio. Can I just "fastboot flash" the radio from the OPD3.170816.023 (Nov 2017, Verizon) factory image?
First time with a Pixel for me, I know you used to be able to do this on a 6P.

Yes you can flash just the radio or if you are worried about losing your data flashing the whole factory images for Verizon, you can just remove the -w then flash and you'll retain data.
I imagine this thread also answers my question regarding the Telstra specific OTA and factory image?

Someone explained why in another thread. Because the official carrier unlocked model has to work on all carriers, not just one.
By the way, the AT&T Oreo update is better than Verizon's:

Understand the frustration. Unfortunately, (or fortunately, depending on what we actually get), even though you are on AT&T, your phone is still the unlocked US998 version. The version of Oreo that we US998 owners will eventually get will not be the same as the carrier locked ones, because the version that we receive has to work on every carrier that could actually support our devices, and not just the one carrier that a locked phone uses.
Personally, since LG is the one pushing that version, I hope that it is the 8.1 with the additional software for the AI features.

Oh I know. I was just responding to the person I responded to because it seemed like he/she didn't get that.
That said, it appears that AT&T is rolling out 8.0 with the AI features, so that's what I expect, at best.
I wouldn't mind be surprised with an 8.1 + AI update instead, though.

I just spent some time with LG Chat and they confirmed that the only way to update a carrier device is to have an active SIM from the carrier inserted.

In theory, yes. In practice... who knows It looks like the cheapest plan is $35 per month, but there may be ways to make that cheaper. I will be with family for the holiday this weekend, I am pretty sure that my parents are AT&T users... I may see about using one of their SIMs for a little bit to see what happens.

confused... t-mobile firmware stock OTA???

So I just purchased a new pixel 2 XL, an I'm getting ready to update my phone to the latest 8.1 OTA firmware from Google developer section (pie looks to have too many problems that are unacceptable to me), and I'm seeing T-Mobile firmware. I am on T-Mobile in the US, but I'm wondering if this is firmware for European market or something weird.
Should I use the T-Mobile firmware, or the non-specified OTA?

Thank you for answering, unfortunately the only update that corresponds with OPD1 for my device is the firmware I am currently on. There are also multiple firmwares with the same date for other similar numbers (there is an OPD1 for Rogers, as well as one for Telstra and another with no signifier and so on). I'm not seeing anything that really correlates to my device in particular. Not for updates anyways. The build numbers have changed.
In my mind it is only logical that they have Google images and Verizon images as they never released model that was carrier specific outside of those two.

I really appreciate your help. I am on stock firmware and have really good connectivity, so I think I'll do what you have done and stick to similar firmware.
I have one last question. I'm about to sideloaded this, the instructions say to make sure there are no pending updates before proceeding. I have pending pie update which I have not downloaded, is this going to cause issues? I can't see why it would. I guess at worst it will reject my sideloaded at worst if it was expecting something else?

Can some one confirm what OTA should I download for T-Mobile US on Pixel XL 2 for 9.0 ? Thank you
The one NOT for Telstra.
I'm hoping they release an update for TMobile. I'm having serious signal issues since moving to Pie... Once the signal drops a bit I immediately drop to 3G or even H+... Never had that issue with the TMobile release for Oreo.

It's been said for a few times already that only the USA & Canada got the official rollout, rest of the world will have to wait until the December update.
On top of that, Google always does time-shift rollouts, meaning even if you are in the right region, it can still take up to 7 or 10 days until you get it.

So is Samsung neglecting the S21 FE?
It probably has more to do with the carriers at this point. They still have to attach all of their bloatware to it.

Part of their commitment has been a very public announcement about consistent support and a minimum number of OS updates. Having purchased a Samsung for this reason, I'm beginning to feel concerned about the device's security.
I have the SM-G990U1/DS and even though it's unlocked it seems to be based on a T-Mobile build based off the "TMB" in the URL I'm given to "learn more" from my last successful update on Dec 20th. According to Sammobile, none of the G990U1 models have received OneUI 5 yet, but the G990U *has*... for the ones carrier locked to Comcast or Xfinity Mobile.

I had the same problem with a G990U1/DS model. I bought it used from Amazon. Although it is unlocked, my carrier is ATT and i could not get visual voicemail to work. I spent 2 hrs with ATT tech support and could not get it to work. For some reason, some aspects of the phone (including visual VM), was native to verizon or t-mobile and could not be undone. Althought the used phone was in MINT condition, i had to return it because it didnt play well with ATT.
ATT has a list of 21FE models compatible with their network and G990U1/DS was not on their list of devices.

But they do support the non "DS" (dual SIM) version. In general, AT&T has become very picky lately on which devices they'll deem "compatible". And for no good reason.
Has anyone tried this for our S21 FE? And, what is XAA?
