As the title suggests, anyone know of a quick way to achieve this?
I'd love something like a quick toggle or widget.
It may be possible to add a shortcut to the activity, via a custom launcher like Nova, to bring up the Google Assistant settings menu. Which would offer some speed compared manually navigating there.
Though if someone knows of a widget or quick toggle addition which I've not been able to find, let us know!
Also similarly, how do find the battery hit, if any, by having "Hey Google" voice activation running all the time?
Goggle Assistant is one of the first packages I disable. Temporarily disabling Google play Services might kill it too... lol, I run like that most of the time. You need to disable find my device as a Administrative Assistant first probably to do that.
Package Disabler allows you to set a widget to toggle selected package on/off real time. It's primarily for Samsung phones but there's a version for other phone manufacturers. I never tested that variant. They respond to emails.

Hmm but if I disable it then it'll indeed be completely disabled.
Perhaps I should have been more explicit, its the "Hey Google" voice detection I'd like to quickly toggle on/off.
I have Google speakers at home, but for example, it'd be great to be able to toggle my phone to respond to the voice command with the flick of a switch (home screen widget perhaps) rather than go through the settings, which of course would be pure laziness and save me a few seconds. But, this is Android after all, anything is possible

Problem is Google is a vampire of a data miner and not to be trusted. Do you really want it to have mic or camera access at all?
Especially in your home?
I've never explored toggling it, just killing it.
Samsung's bixby is another one, after reading its eula it was so disabled

I certainly understand peoples hesitancy with Google and such privacy concerns, but I for one aren't that fussed.... I have my speakers listening and it doesn't bother me....
Each to their own though and yeah I can see why you and others choose to disable such features entirely

No, they're talking about the ability to say "Hey Google" or "Okay Google" to get their phone to start listening. The previous poster's suggestion about the Mic access Quick Tile might be the best answer.
The OP is looking for a way to temporarily turn off it's ability to be woken up by voice command, and to just as easily re-enable it.

This is kind of a solution, though this would also disable all mic access presumably and not just per-app, so I'd need to toggle it back on to make phone calls etc.
I probably just need to not be lazy and manually go to the setting when needed lol

Thanks, though specifically I'd like to be able to toggle the hey Google voice detection. Eg it not listening all the time, but at the flick of a switch, listen for it and activate the assistant

Maybe a combination of Tasker and Auto Voice will work? Idk, but check out the thread below where someone talks about an "always listening" mode. May be too much effort for the result though.

Let's face it, navigation notifications on the Moto 360 just eat the battery. I don't need them as I'm getting voice turn-by-turn navigation through my car stereo via bluetooth. So, is it possible to turn them off? I know I could put the phone in airplane mode but I don't want to turn off all notifications, just navigation.

I haven't tried it but you probably could go into the android wear application on your phone and mute google maps.

Thanks for the quick reply. I do see Google Maps under the Navigate option on the phone but I don't see any way to toggle it off.

Tap on the gears icon to the top right. Then go to Mute App Notifications and add google maps to that list.

So I tried the same thing. Though it's not called mute in my version. But I checked off 'maps' under 'block app notifications' but I still get random navigation cards "15 miles to work" and "20 minutes to new location" yet they are random locations at random times while I'm just sitting stationary... I work in line 10 spots in 2 towns with an ever changing schedule, this function isn't useful to me... But even with blocking maps I still get these. Anyone have an idea?

That is Google Now. Go into Google Now on the phone, and customise the settings to remove that function. I had the same issue including the weather updates constantly spamming me.

I don't mind the weather, and I actually did that after my post, in the settings... Then it happened again, opened Google note on my phone, selected the pop up and choose to no longer get notifications on navigation... And it happened again. This is the one issue I've had... :/
Thanks for great advice here. I am also solve this problem easily here.
Ever since the Lollipop upgrade, the only way I can get "Ok Google" recognition to work from all screens is to disable S Voice. But when I do that, I can no longer voice-control the built-in camera app (it tells me I have to enable S Voice).
Is there a way to fix this, or are we now forced to abandon one of these two useful features?

Are you sure you have that option activated in the camera under settings?
Also, I'm not a s/voice user myself, but I don't have it disabled. I just removed it from being activated from the home button.

And does that let you use "Ok Google" recognition from all screens (including the lockscreen)? For me, that option in the Google Now settings is greyed out unless I disable S Voice.
No. Disable Svoice, activate ok google detection. Open your camera app and turn on voice. It will ask to enable Svoice. Enable it. Ok google voice still works on all screens and voice recognition works in the camera app as well.

Ok Google Fix
This may help those who updated to 5.0.1 on the At&t Note 4. It may work for other note 4's. This applies if you already had Google Now set to work on all screens along with various other settings and now they are greyed out. If you never could get Google Now to work on all screens in 4.4.4 that is a different problem.
1. Disable S Voice, the Samsung voice control. Simply go to apps and disable it.
2. Either Restart your Phone, or Power it Off then turn it back on.
3. Try the settings in Google Now Voice again. The first setting which probably worked before - "From The Google App" should still be able to be toggled on and off.
The Second setting, "From Any Screen" May now work and let you train your voice. A clue is the very bottom of the screen "Train Voice Model" and "Delete Voice Model" should no longer be greyed out.
If the second setting gets you to the next screen now where you say Google Now three times but nothing happens, go to the next the step.
4. Put your Note 4 into safe mode. You will not be looking for any programs that might be blocking Google Now as you might expect. I know what is blocking it, it's S Voice that even though is turned off is still blocking it.
If you do not understand safe mode, or have any reservations doing it, don't. Though I feel it is a safe thing to do, I am not going to give instructions how to do it, you can find it online easily. I take no responsibility if you find how to do it then make a mistake somehow and screw up your phone.
5. Once in safe mode, and staying in safe mode and when the phone has loaded everything it is going to load, go to the Google Now settings again and you should see all settings available now. In the second setting "From Any Screen" toggle it on and when it takes you to the voice training do the three steps of Google Now voice training.
At that point you are done. Remember, there are other settings that may affect the use of Google Now but if you had it working before the Lollipop upgrade those settings should not have changed.
6. Simply restart the Note 4 and Google Now should work from any screen again.
7. You should be able to restart S Voice at this point if you need it, primarily for the camera voice commands. I decided to leave mine disabled since I rarely to never use the camera voice commands. You do not need S Voice to be active to use Google Now.

Worked at stage 3. Reenabling S Voice rebroke OkGoogle. RE Disabled S Voice. All that's changed is either the screen must be on or it must be plugged in. Like my Note Pro. Used to just need to be on..screen off and all.
That's a change with Lollipop and not a "problem." (now it is screen on or charging) It appears Ok Google no longer works with the screen off by design, at least on the Note 4.
I can keep S Voice on after doing the steps. (Though I have since turned it off) Try doing all the steps and while in safe mode turn off then on the settings. It's possible this makes Ok Google the "default" over S Voice.
I like AOD and i have it on as default. However, when I'm at work I don't need to have it on since I can see my notifications & calls from the computer (using Join extensions & app). I tried messing around with Tasker but unable to accomplish anything so far. Do you guys know any quick way to turn on/off AOD without having to go into the display settings?
Edit - Found an app that let me toggles AOD
App is called "Tiles". There's a tile in the app called "Always On", switch it on, then run this adb command to allow the app make secure setting changes: adb shell pm grant com/rascarlo.quick.settings.tiles android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS

One workaround. Pull town quick tiles, touch menu (gear to right of date), then in search box type "ambient", that will let you choose "Battery > Ambient Display". It takes long steps the first time. Next time just pull down tiles, touch gear, touch search bar, touch "ambient" (that stays in list), touch home button. It seems the 2XL keeps the last five searches.
There may be a better way, but I have not found it yet. Been trying to do it with Tasker and maybe a plugin, but nothing yet.

I have Tiles, granted permission through ADB, and the Ambient Display toggle does nothing.
Edit: It turns on and off the "New notification - wake screen when you receive notifications" setting. Not the Always On setting..
Edit 2: You need to use the Always On tile and not Ambient Display. Works well!

I'm trying to find a solution to my phone screen turning off when it's plugged in and a call comes in. Maybe this is the fix I've been looking for.

You can also squeeze your phone/activate assistant and say "turn always on display off"
Tasker does work, try the "custom setting" option.
I'm going to assume no since nobody has responded but maybe we should look into this, would be nice to have a way to use it another app launch or camera or something, even mute/unmute or something might be nice.
I'm sure there is a way to do this in Tasker. It will interrupt the assistant "call", and replace it with any other "call". The fun part is going to be finding a script for it.
The problem is it calls a specific app, I found an app on xda for remapping the assistant button but what it does is change itself to the default assistant, then automatically does whatever you set it to do instead of launching itself when you call the default assistant. However Samsung and LG in their infinite wisdom specifically call the default "google" app with the hardware button so all doing this does is disable that button. If you long press home it does open whatever app you tell it to instead of the google assistant but not if you push the hardware button. DUMB

Actually on Samsung devices, it's easy to remap the Bixby button in order to do whatever you want.
Some useful apps are available to give you plenty of choice even though Samsung recently added the option to remap it for some specific tasks (I think it's open the camera app, Google Assistant in stead of Bixby or simply deactivate the button).
On my Galaxy S8 I had before and on the Note 8 of a friend of mine, we were able to set the button as changing the sound status from sound/vibrate/Nothing, make a specific action when double pressed or long pressed. All that without any Bixby ugly stuff or annoying Google Assistant actions.
I never tried on LG smartphones even if there is an option to deactivate the button in the settings.

On Samsung, it was BxActions (with adb permission).
On LG, I'm currently fine with the native options (Settings > Extensions > Shortcuts).

Yah I was trying to remap assistant key. But the shortcuts only allow you to turn it on or off.
Apparently, by rooting the phone (it was possible on the V40 and G7 as far as I noticed and someone somehow managed to do it on the V50), you can use "Automate" and kill the Google Assistant app as soon as it's launched (just the part launched by the button) and launch something else in stead.
As LG phones aren't mine (the ownership is LG, I just receive them until the next one arrive), my contract doesn't allow me to root or flash the main device without any authorization explicitly given by them.

As per the title, I've tried everything I could find to replace bixby with Google assistant but nothing seems to work properly.

Odd, I would think that it would work the same as on any other Samsung device. Just set it as Default. I also use a Package Manager to disable Bixby anything if I need too, but when I get my Fold 3 next week, I will let you know if someone has not answered by then.

My side button already activates Google Assistant by default, press and hold. I actually don't want it to. I have the power menu option selected for it in settings yet it does Google Assistant anyway! No bixby anywhere to be found.

How did you get google assistance on your button? Since right now only bixby is possible. Unless you install 3rd party app that does the work.

I have no idea! Smart switched from Note20 Ultra, and it just works like that. I don't want it. Like I said I set my power button to be a power button. I wish I knew! All I know is that Google assistant is set as default and side key is set to power menu. Maybe try that? I'm still trying to figure out how to disable this because I want my power menu back! If I figure it out I'll update here. (See attached video so you know I'm not just pulling your leg)
Okay I figured it out. Apparently I had a Bixby routine I forgot about! Must have carried over to my new phone but lost its "inactive" state. Not sure when I created this but totally forgot. So through Bixby routines you can override the preset options and make the button do whatever you want. Search for Bixby Routines and just create one like in the screenshot:
