would it be worth it rooting this phone? - Moto G Power Guides, News, & Discussion

Off the top of my head I'd like to be able to keep notifications coming in in the background but disable them from popping onto my screen when I'm doing s*** and I'd like my phone to automatically choose use the USB connection to my PC for internet tethering.
I'm sure there's other things I would like out of this phone only rooting will make possible and that you guys could sell me on, so let me know why, if at all I should root this phone and what would be the best ROM? I don't need anything special. Something minimal if you have anything in mind.

Nublet Help

New here. First let me say thank you to all the people who made it possible throuth tutorials, on this site, to root my phone and learn how to change all kinds of very cool options on it.. ie roms.
My question is this... . . I updated the last update and went through the process yesterday of rooting through SteelH's post. Worked great all is well. I have one issue although. When I plug my usb cable in and do either a sync or charge/debug method and unplug, my phone does not turn the led or usb symbol off, instead it seems to keep looking for htc sync or charging to thin air. I eventually have to turn my phone off and then on to get that to stop.
Secondly.. . Why is it that sprint navigation starts in the background when i make a phone call or check my voicemail? I know because I use advanced task killer and every time check the mail or make a call, the process is running.
I went through the shell and deleted a bunch of stupid stock apps I no longer want and I can remove the sprint navi, but im just curious. Thanks a ton.
Hmmm, curious indeed. Have you flashed a new Rom since you flashed the pcimg one?
I have tried three different roms and still no change. I can live with it, just annoying to reboot every time i connect to the comp.

[Q] It's the small things that make me happy..

Loving the phone so far. In addition to what is already obvious, there are a couple things that really make me love the phone.
Notification LED! I've had HTC phones over the past few years and I've always hated that it had two colors for notifications. Amber and Green. I just discovered this phone will accept any custom color you throw at it! And you can actually see it clearly!
Another thing? I can see my "5G" wireless router (dual band) connection. It's only the second device I have that sees it. PS3/Xbox, my old Thunderbolt, my old laptop, etc don't see it, but my new laptop and GN does. yay.
And I suppose another thing is the ability to access the SD card without fumbling through the notification screen to turn it on. It's always there on my computer when it's connected via SD. Oh, and the file copy is as fast as I've seen on any phone I've owned.
Any little things making you geeky happy? (Didn't mean to hit the question option. Oops)

There is no SD card on this phone. When you connect it to the computer it 'mounts' the media partition like it's a flash drive though, so that's what makes it so easy to use.
What I'm happy about with this phone is they put back the silent->vibrate->sound sequence in the volume rocker. Google took that out of stock Android with 2.2.

[Q] Power question and opinion on ROM

Hi,
Just wanted to ask a quick question and get some opinions on roms if possible. The plan is to turn the wifes old evo into a dashboard for use when sim-racing (iracing) There is an app that you can download for android and the pc running iracing, that pulls data from the game and sends it to the phone over the local network.
First thing I am wondering. Is there any way at all to modify the phone to be able to run permanently wired, and without the battery? The plan is to mount the phone onto the steering wheel itself, just below the top of the rim, between the drivers thumbs. Id like to make the phone as light as possible to reduce inertia. I already plan to dis-assemble the phone and lose as much of the casing as I can.
Next is the rom. Any thoughts on what would be the best ROM for my situation? My only concerns are stability, ability to run the iracing dashboard app, ability to turn off screen rotation, ability to leave the screen on constantly. Battery life--- If I am unable to hard wire the phone, and have to run off the battery.
If this has been asked and I missed it in search, my bad.
thanks for any help

Broken Screen - Data Retrieval (or last resort, wipe) - urgent

I'm sorry, I hate when people ask questions in the wrong section, but I literally have 2 hours to sort this out.
I dropped my phone and the screen won't turn on and doesn't respond to touch.
The insurance company is picking it up first thing tomorrow (*hence the urgency) and would like to get some stuff off it. Most stuff is on my exsd, so I'm not too worried if I have to wipe it, but would prefer only to wipe it once everything is off.
I'm rooted and have a custom stock based rom and cwm installed.
Is there any way of doing this? I have the lock pattern enabled so when I plug it in nothing shows up.
If not, then how would I wipe it?
It's omega rom btw, so it has cwm touch. Would the volume buttons still work with it?
It's probably too late but you should set up your device with Samsung "Find my Mobile" (ex-Dive) as soon as you get it. That way you can remote wipe it as long as it's receiving a Wi-Fi or cellular signal. There also Mobizen which allows you to control your device from your PC. It auto-connects so you'd be able to use it without a working display but you'd have to make entries on your device the first time you set it up. You might try plugging it in to a PC and seeing if it'll let Kies connect with the display locked. You could at least manipulate your files. Other than that I don't have anything else to suggest.
Tried Galaxy Note Toolkit? Pretty sure it has a option to backup the phone over USB after booting into recovery. Can't be certain you don't need to press a button on screen, but if memory serves it's all automated.

Seems I was signed up for dive and was able to remotely wipe. Thank you!

[Q] Power button not working in my nexus..

For some odd reason my power button is not working. The only way for me to look at things on a screen is to plug it into my charger. I took it to a local phone repair shop and they said it had something to do with the powerflex (something flex, not sure if its powerflex) connected to the motherboard?
I might be searching for the wrong name because I cant find any online stores or ebay selling them. Theres Alibaba but I don't trust that site, it has bad reviews...
any recommendations or similar experiences?
It might be cheaper to get a new phone but I like this one since its rooted to the new Jellybean and I am afraid of losing all my music, shows and stuff. Im not sure if it is on the phone or on the SD card
there is no removable sdcard on gnex.
you can always plug into computer tho and copy all the media over that you would like to save and then easily transfer that to a new device when you get one.
but.... since you are rooted, you can try using one of the Touch2Wake, sweep2wake apps. or see if your current kernel you are using has built in tap to wake and just enable it.
I think there are xposed modules also that give you greater control of the tap/gesture controlled waking of device. keep in mind that you might see some battery loss from these apps and such, but it shouldn't be THAT bad. and will allow you in the meantime to be able to turn device screen on just by tapping the screen or doing a gesture on screen.
I recommend that before you try new kernels or anything, that you backup, both nandroid backup AND backup any media you want to a computer(or get a flash drive and plug right into device using a USB OTG cable which can be found VERY cheap, like $5 online) and just copy over your media to that.
some have had similar issues before and only needed to take device apart(look in YouTube for Galaxy Nexus teardown for step by step) and just cleanih with rubbing alcohol/qtip where the power button makes it contact as there can become.buildup dirt there after a while of constant use.
GOOD.LUCK!
and REMEMBER! BACKUP before doing ANYTHING that might result in messing up something. I cannot stress that enough, and it will save you a lot of stress. if you've got pictures and video you've taken with device you want to save and need a place to backup just get Google+ app and turn on auto backup in settings. and set to backup all current now. you get 15gb free storage for full size pic/video backups with em. just nice peace of mind to know they will always be there in case something goes wrong
Thanks for good guide... :good:
