Question Low light mode photo artifacts - Samsung Galaxy S22

Hi,
I was wondering if any of you encounter issues with the low night mode on the default samsung camera.
When low light mode is engaged, the photo is destoryed by artifacts after being saved. This also happens when the expert camera app is used. I attached an example.
Any suggestions?

Do you get the same results using the default camera app in Night Mode?

Are you on the Exynos or Snap Dragon version?
How about other modes? Do you get artifacts while using other modes?

Snapdragon. Other modes are fine.

It could be software related. Make sure both apps are up to date.
Camera: 12.0.01.69
Expert RAW: 1.0.02.6
If they are up to date, then clear cache on your camera app and Expert RAW apps.
Settings -> Apps -> Camera -> Storage -> Clear cache
Settings -> Apps -> Expert RAW -> Storage -> Clear cache
If that doesn't work, then clear data.
Settings -> Apps -> Camera -> Storage -> Clear data
Settings -> Apps -> Expert RAW -> Storage -> Clear data
You can also try uninstalling Expert RAW and reinstalling it. Before reinstalling it, test the camera in Night Mode.
If it is still having the same issue, then it could be hardware related. But I tend to think otherwise because it is working fine in other modes.
The worst case scenarios are that you need to do a factory reset, or if it is hardware caused, send it in for repairs or a warranty replacement.

Instagram!

Instagram was released for Android today. Go ahead and find it in the Google Play Store. However, the app crashes when I go to take a pic with the app. I'm running Calk's 1.3a.
I've found a workaround (Camera Settings -> Uncheck 'Use Instagram's Advanced Camera) but I believe that totally defeats the purpose of the app in some way.
Anyone else having problems with the app?
Works great on CodeName... Runs smooth as butter actually... I dunno how often I'll use it, but I'll certainly try it out!
I'm on Blazer. When I select a photo from the gallery it says, "Photo too small." When I try to use the stock camera I get "Unknown error."
I haven't even seen it offer the option of using an Instagram camera.

[Q] [Camera] what app you are using for taking photographs?

Hello guys,
I showed up with a question for you geeks, in your opinion whats is the best alternative of Pixelmaster camera?
What app(s) you are using for taking and adding live effects in photographs?
Regards
VSCO is pretty good, but I usually just use the pixelmaster camera for quick pics.
Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using Tapatalk
A better camera
pixelmaster.tried camera 51,google camera but obviously asus know how to optimize it better than anybody else.besides phone is by asus.they know the hardware, they have to create a better software.camera is a shame right now
My Pixelmaster Camera app is crashing immediately and gives two error messages. The first one is "another app is using the camera.." and the second is "Camera failed to launch. please reboot and try again". Rebooting didn't help. I have tried other apps for camera like camera360 but didn't work. What could be the problem? My device is Zenfone2 64G.

Did you recently installed an app that have access to your camera? If you did install an app then use Auto Start Manager to block such app to start at your background if it doesn't work then try to uninstall that app.
If you did not installed any app that may use your camera then go for wipe cache memory from recovery mode and then try to access the camera.
If Camera is still not working then as a last hope Hard reset your phone from Recovery mode and then ADB Sideload the latest rom for your from here and then check your camera.
If still your camera is not working then there might be some hardware issue to be addressed by you nearer Asus Service Station.
It might also be that you uninstalled some default app that the camera needs.
Thank you guys. Yes I installed many apps including Clashot, Foap and Snapwire that are photo community apps, but I have multiple photo and camera apps on other devices with no conflict!! I disable all apps at boot. I uninstalled then reinstalled the original camera app. I installed camera360 but no chance. I uninstalled some google apps I don't need. I'm not sure if installing/uninstalling these app caused or the last system upgrade 5 days ago. I'm willing to try any solution since no Asus service station is available now in Syria. Thank you
I just did a factory reset .. Still can't use the camera!!

Changing defaults

OK, the stock camera is crap it won't auto focus. I have found an app called 'A better camera' and it is great focus not a problem anymore.
My question is, how can I change the default camera app. You know on the lock screen if you launch the camera app from there I want it to use the 3rd party app not the stock one.

Try settings» apps» camera» clear defaults, then do the same for other camera app. See if you get a popup next time that gives you the option
Had a look in settings, everything that says camera has no defaults set. Therefore clear defaults button is not available.

Mi 10T Lite cache for Pictures

I discovered something, maybe someone is interested, so I'll write it briefly.
If you take a picture with the camera (whatever else, right) and then look at it in the gallery, it is cached as a preview. If you delete it, it is gone in the gallery and if you then empty the trash, it is not saved anywhere (is temporarily saved in /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/Gallery/cloud/.trahsbin). Nothing new so far.
But: if you look under /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.miui.gallery/gallery_disk_cache/full_size or small_size, you can still see the smaller pictures, so to speak the small preview pictures in the gallery (you can rename the .0 to .jpg). Even the oldest ones that have been made and deleted long time ago were there, just smaller (less than 1MB), but they are there and take up memory. Even a restart does not delete them. I don't know if there is any limit and if it will not be erased at some point. Otherwise it is just a kind of second backup or the memory will run out at some point in the case of frequent photographers or video takers. The security tool did not remove them when you tried to use the cleaner tool. At least in my case it didn't.
I've just looked and yes they are all there - This is a huge security issue in my opinion
That's unfortunately quite standard way for many apps which cache picture files for faster viewing, previews mostly will not get deleted automatically. App can store such previews as cache or app data, so to remove previews you need to clean corresponding category. For MIUI gallery it would be app data.
If you are concerned about storage use, clean data every now and then. If you are concerned about security - don't use your phone to take sensitive pictures.

I disagree with this comment for a few reasons
1- There is no option to clear data of the MIUI gallery app. It only allows you to clear cache
2 - This only effects pictures taken with the stock camera app. If you use a 3rd party camera app & a different gallery app it doesn't happen (I've checked their data folders too)
3 - Define sensitive image. In my opinion any image I take is sensitive if I don't intend to share it with anyone regardless of what the image actually is. If I delete the image it should be deleted & not stored in data of the stock gallery apps data

1. you are right, but with root access it can be done easily directly or through another app. I suppose that "MIUI optimizations" are blocking "clean data" button.
2. it happens with Simple gallery app, Total commander, Quickpic,.. Some apps store data in cache, others store them as app data. It doesn't matter if you use stock or 3rd party camera app. As soon as you open MIUI gallery or another gallery app (or allow them to be always running and scanning storage for new pictures), it generates a preview and keeps it for a future use.
3. yes I agree, but you unfortunately can't rely on this assumption. Any app with access to storage area should be considered as a source of potential data leak.
I am not defending MIUI apps (I avoid them like plague), just wanted to highlight that it's not the only app with such issue.

Storing them in cache is fine as the cache can be deleted - I've checked simple gallery app and it doesn't store anything permanently in data.
What I have an issue with is the permanent storage of these files in data. If they are temp files they should be stored as cache which is deleted when you clear the cache.
I agree that anything stored could be leaked however if you delete a file it should be deleted and not leave temp files behind that cannot be removed through clearing cache (by deleted I mean deleted at user level & not deleted beyond some forensic recovery tool)
Using open camera and simple gallery app no such files are left behind permanently in data
Thanks for cross-checking this. I think both of your comments are right. Many apps are keeping this cached data, but I also would like to see a possibility to clean this data for privacy reasons. The question what is considered to be sensitive is manyfold of course. I sometimes take a picture of a postal document to store it on my PC, but would also consider family pictures as private.
For me - in a good sense - it looks like a simple bug, that the authors of the SW didn't check this. In a more bad sense, but I haven't tried that (and will not ) is that this cache is possibly transferred to Xiaomi if you use a Mi-account on your device. Who knows. Just remembering the old story with this Mi-browser......
Therefore I shared, as it may fill your device storage over time, which was my main concern.
Thanks for sharing, I didn't want to discourage you or dismiss this issue as irrelevant. MIUI gallery should certainly store such data in cache folder and/or delete the preview after removal of the source picture. I am going to delete all data and disable the app through ADB, I used it only once to test the sky replacement feature anyway and now I have a good reason to disable it again.
Edit: with disabled MIUI gallery, after taking the screenshot it doesn't show the usual edit window, it saves the picture right away. Just in case if anyone wondered about the impact.

You can also revoke the storage permissions for the MIUI gallery app - you keep the screenshot edit window but as it doesn't have permissions to access storage it can't save the preview files to data
Interesting ,thanks for sharing.

Question Just got the S21 FE 5G, are there any apps I should uninstall/disable or any settings I should change?

Just got the S21 FE 5G and did a factory reset.
Are there any apps I should uninstall/disable or any settings I should change for best performance? This is my first Samsung phone.
Also, I'm going from a non-Samsung phone to this. Should I use Smart Switch or Google Backup?
Hi there.
The most valuable advice I can give you is to go to Settings>Battery and device care>Click on Battery>Scroll down to "Background usage limits">Deep sleeping apps. Add any app that you do not want to run in the background. Those apps that you add will only work when you open them. Keep in mind that they will not receive updates or notifications.
Also, if you want the phone to feel snappier, go to Settings>About phone>Software Information>Tap 7 times on Build Number to enable developer settings. After that go to Settings> Developer options and turn off "Window animation scale", "Transition animation scale" and "Animator duration scale".
As for backup, I have no idea what to recommend. I usually just copy everything to a SSD and paste it to the new phone ). Contacts and conversations usually take care of themselves as they are synced with my google account.

I've had good results using the following guide. I have not encountered a single issue at all since doing an 'extreme debloat' a few months ago.

I did not do any of the 'ADB Optimisations.' I mainly focused on the 'Removing Bloatware' section. It's possible to restore any component - if the need arises. It's also mentioned that you should 'restore all apps before updating,' but I have not done so and encountered no problems.
I also agree with turning off the adaptive battery from that guide. You can also turn on the enhanced processing while at it. I am not sure if the battery charge will suffer, but I definetly feel the phone is more responsive. Especially when scrolling pages.

Would putting the bloatware in "deep sleep" accomplish the same thing as disabling?

Yes, but you can't put all the apps in deep sleep, you can disable some of them only through adb.

In my case - as I previously suggested - 'Dolby Atmos' was missing after doing the above; however I was easily able to restore that functionality with AppControl.

Well, I mentioned you can restore anything that you notice is missing and need. You can restore any apk in AppControl. I believe the SoundAlive service restores Dolby Atmos support. Search for it among the deleted items in AppControl, right-click and restore.
I've attached the apk if you are missing the file.
