Question Which mobile soc can be overclocked (cpu and gpu ) at higher frequencies and voltages than advertised ? and which devices can or can’t ? - Xiaomi Poco F3 / Xiaomi Mi 11X / Redmi K40

I thought that nearly every android device that’s rooted can be overclocked using a custom kernel and app that allow it , but I found out that the poco f3 gpu can’t be overclocked and if so there is minimal improvement because of Qualcomm trust zone , I know that the sd870 is already an overclocked 865+ which in itself is an overclocked 865 and that overclocking produces more heat but I’m planning on doing a custom cooling solution for it , and I don’t even know about the cpu , I know that someone managed to overclock sd865 and beat 888 , so why isn’t it possible , is the problem with Qualcomm or Xiaomi , if it’s with Qualcomm what other mobile SOCs can be overclocked ? if it’s with Xiaomi what other devices even tablets that have sd 870 that can be overclocked ? Thank you !

when people talk about overclock, its mostly about the gpu.
The sd870's prime core of cpu is overclocked than that of the sd 865.
the gpu of the sd870 was locked by trust zone, so, it can be overclocked to a limit. (Max 683 MHz)
Some lucky guys have an unlocked sd870, where they can overclock their gpu and even reach 1000 MHz if they want.
sd865 was not locked by trust zone and thus can be overlocked up to 985 MHz
its not related to xiaomi
Keep in mind, if you do manage to overclock, it is best to have a cooler when reaching these overclock levels

So it is impossible to overclock the cpu of any mobile processor ?
is the sd865 the last processor that can be overclocked and wasn’t locked by trust zone ?
can you provide the link of the 1000 MHz gpu overclock ? Thank you !

These arent mine though
credits go to @astronomy216

Is the 888 or 8 gen 1 also locked by trust zone ?

I am not sure but i think it was mentioned in the telegram group

You can undervolt at the same time. My 870 is unlocked. I overclocked it and undervolted. So I manage more power but with less heat and consumption.

Thanks a lot , do you think that 8 gen 1 water cooled will eliminate the heat problems and beat sd870 in prolonged gaming sessions

ofcourse but water cooling is overkill
there are mobile fan coolers that have a thermoelectric peltier that should do the trick but make sure that it has that peltier, a normal fan wouldnt cool well
sd888 locked is better than sd870 locked
sd888 unlocked is better than sd870 unlocked
sd870 unlocked is better than sd888 locked
same with 8gen1
The only reason a locked sd870 is better than 8gen1 in prolonged gaming is because the default clocks of the 8gen1 is higher than that of the sd870, so, more heat is generated.
Most phones will start throttling at 45°C battery temperature, so, the 8gen1 will reach that temperature faster than the sd870

Thank you so much for your help ! I think I’m going to opt for the 865 but I preferably want a tablet for gaming , and so far the only 2 tablets I found were : Huawei (it doesn’t have play store ) and Samsung tab s7 , can samsung devices even be overclocked?

i hate samsung, they keep complicating things with root and bootloader. The last samsung i had was android 7.0, so, i dont know much about samsung.
i recommend an 8gb or more ram, i have a 6gb and it is starting to be more than 80% used most of the time

Ok thank you , do you have any other suggestion (tablet or smartphone) equipped with 865 that can be oc to 950 MHz

if they both have the same specs then it is a personal preference whether you like a bigger screen or not

What do you think the best smartphone brand is , in terms of overclocking and 120 fps support for games even if the phone doesn’t natively support 120 fps in all games , in which brand you can unlock the fps after rooting and overclock the 865 to 950 MHz ?

best brand in general is samsung but if you want to root and overclock, definitely dont choose samsung.
The only brands i have ever tried was samsung and xiaomi (Galaxy note 5 and xiaomi poco f3)
I know that Mi10T can be overclocked to 950, idk any other phones, im not well versed in this area.
When it comes to supporting 120 fps on all apps, as long as you are rooted, any phone will do, you can just change model name or use gltools

[Q] Which CPU does my Tab S LTE have?

How can I find out which CPU my Tab S 8.4 LTE has ? I bought my tablet from on online Italian dealer.
They all have Exynos (except some rare US and Chinese models).

Well, I am more confused now.
I called Samsung and they accessed some internal technical data that I couldn't find online. According to the customer service rep, my LTE device (SM-T705) has a 2.3ghz snapdragon 800ghz quad core for the LTE functions and a 1.9 ghz exynos quad core. The non-LTE (SM-T700) has a 1.9ghz quad core exynos and a 1.3ghz quad core exynos (i.e., exynos 5 octa). So, according to them, my device isn't octacore, but dual (heterogenous) quad core. That's exactly what the rep told me. Hmmmmmm
Here is what cpu-z reports:
1) 4x ARM Cortex [email protected] 1.90ghz
2) 4x ARM Cortex [email protected] 1.90ghz
3) GPU Mali T628
It doesn't explicitly say if the brand of each 4-core CPU. I was unaware and A-7 could run at 1.9, even overclocked.
Here is what the CPU/RAM/DEVICE Identifer app reports:
1) Exynos 5 5420 Octa x4+4 1.9ghz.
According to this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2438339), the 5420 is an A-15.
2) 3) GPU Mali T628
My observation here that maybe the device is using an LTE chip separate (not integrated) alongside an exynos octacore. It's possible according to an Australian forum: "Samsung is buying LTE modems from Intel and using them with their own Exynos 5 Octa (5420) SoC, as using in-house silicon reduces manufacturing costs."
To show how confusing this is, here is what I found on Wikipedia, describing sort of vaguely the Tab S 10.1 cpu (no similar description for the 8.4):
"The WiFi model of the tablet is powered by the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5420 CPUs. The LTE model comes either with a Quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 on top of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset (version for some US carriers) or with the Exynos octa-core CPU (version for some European countries)."
That seems to say the LTE version has snapdragon quad core plus another snapdragon quad core OR an exynos octacore. That would mean they'd have to have turned off the A-7 core. Either way, I thought a snapdragon would not work with the Mali GPU.
In the end, still confused, but I'm leaning toward believing it's all exynos plus that intel LTE modem. As to which cortex cores, I dunno.
They are all exynos apart from ramdom US ones as mentioned before. There is huge confusion online. Its an exynos with two quad cores but no hetrogenous processing.
Thanks for the replies. An all exynos system makes sense. Clearly, one quad core is 1.9ghz. I wonder what the other quad core runs at. The CPU-z type apps are giving conflicting results. And, clearly Samsung customer service has no idea. They think I have an exynos 1.9ghz quad plus a snapdragon 2.3ghz quad.

It's four ARM Cortex A15 cores at 1.9Ghz and four Arm Cortex A7 cores at 1.3Ghz.
They call it the big.LITTLE concept where the A7 cores are for low power/light tasks and the A15 cores for performance.

Totally 100% correct.
Again, thanks for the help. It will be interesting to see what the Tab S2 will have in it beside a 4:3 form factor and a much lower capacity battery.
Likely the new 7440 exynos. (May have got that model number wrong!)
I guess when it comes out, I'll put my T705 on eBay. Gotta stay current ☺
Christ it comes to something when even Samsung doesn't know what's in there own devices!
This forum doesn't help either by having the wrong specs at the top of the forum page.
The majority of tab s's have the exynos cpus not snapdragon and this should be reflected in the spec details in this forum.
I can see how newcomers get easily confused.

Want buy: snapdragon 650 or 652?

Want to buy this phone, please advice, which snapdragon to choose with, with the intention of modding?
Is any significant performance superiority of 652 over 650?
I think the 650 (Hydrogen) has the best support in terms of custom ROMs.
I've got a 650 Hydrogen and I think it's pretty snappy! No major lags or performance issues.
FYI, the Xiaomi Mi Max with the Snapdragon 650 is referred to as Hydrogen.
The Xiaomi Mi Max with the Snapdragon 652 is referred to as Helium.
Hopefully that will help with searching out custom ROMs
You can some comparison here

As I understand kernels are the same for hydrogen and helium?

Exynos or Snapdragon CPU?

which version is better CPU Exynos 9825 or Snapdragon 855+? for a games? for a job? for a see videos?
Thank´s a lot
Note 10 has the 855 not the +. Just a fyi.
Both are very similar 855 little ahead in benchmark which u won't notice in real life , i just know Exynos runs cooler i heard .

Question Is this a good phone under 250€?

Hi and thank you for taking the time to read this!
I'm in need of a new phone like ASAP My last phone was a xiaomi redmi 10s and I was happy with it but now that xiaomi redmi 11 is out I'm thinking of buying it, is there a better one for under 250€. I basically game on my phone all the time and listen to A LOT of music but main focus is gaming like emulators and stuff like that. So can anyone help me?
P.s I'm thinking of getting the 8gb version of the phone
yes! beside x3 pro these are the best for emulators, sound is decent, screen is excellent, just don't update MIUI to 13 version, keep MIUI 12 til 13.5 release.
I'd get a Mi 10T (Snapdragon 865)
Snapdragon 870 is not overclockable so 670MHz GPU is your max
Snapdragon 865 is overclockable so you can overclock to 900MHz GPU but you'd need to get a fan to sustain that high overclock while gaming.

Question Redmi K40 gaming edition!!

Hey all, I've posted here before to get some opinions if I should choose the POCO F3 or another phone if I'm going to upgrade from iPhone 6plus. I've never had a xiaomi phone, but I'm interested in the midrange budget phones of xiaomi that are gaining lots of positive reviews. So while I was looking for a POCO F3, someone recommended to check out the "Redmi K40 gaming edition", as I mentioned I am not xiaomi phone expert but the k40 looks similar to poco f3 however the k40 gaming edition is different. If you have the chance to choose between POCO F3 or Redmi K40 gaming edition, what would you go for? Taking in consideration the performance, ram, display, battery, software... Ofcorse I'm not getting it for gaming only but for general uses including gaming sometimes (I don't care about the camera) I'm focusing on what would give me a great gaming and general use features and would last for 3-4 years!! Thanks in advance for your opinions. https://9apps.ooo/
I honestly dont buy anything without a snapdragon processor
K40 gaming has side triggers, so, that would be fun while playing pubg or cod mobile but the lifetime of the triggers will probably be short
After buying the poco f3, i found out that the snapdragon processor can be overclocked and that most of the snapdragon 870 are locked while the snapdragon 865 are unlocked (865 overclocked gives higher performance than a 888)
When i bought the poco f3, i bought the 6gb version, i figured 6gb would be enough.
My Conclusion :-
I would look for a snapdragon 865 phone with 8gb ram or more

The OC device needs bigger battery, extra cooling system or stock a budget for replacing dead overheating device.
