Best firmware to cross flash on ATT G8? - LG G8 Questions & Answers

The only options i saw on lg-firmwares for my device (G820UM) were US cellular, verizon, or CAN.
I flashed the CAN version and it’s great except I can’t make calls. Is there a certain version you guys recommend for limited bloat that will also allow calls?

Yes, if you're in the US, flash the version that says USA. And, the firmware you're looking at is the G820QM not G820UM. They are interchangeable, but the UM is carrier specific.

So just to be clear I can flash the USA G820QM KBZ on my G820UM and it will work fine?

Yes it will work. Many, including myself, have done it many times.
The hardware of these devices, the QM and UM, are the same. It's just that the QM rom comes on unlocked devices, whereas the UM comes on carrier specific, usually locked, devices.
But if your's is carrier unlocked, then you can flash the QM and essentially have the exact same thing, except for one thing, your imei will always identify the device as Sprint, or ATT or whatever it was originally. So be sure to only use a carrier that doesn't care about that.

So I wanna make absolute 100% sure, I can flash OPEN_US LMG820QM and EVERYTHING'LL work,
but if I flash OPEN_CA LMG820UM everything'll work except CALLS?
And the device we're talking about is LMG820UM AT&T.
And which set of ROMs out of these https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-lmg820qm-firmwares/?

How'd you get it to work! Does it matter if its android 10/9/11?

Do you have any news with you issue ?
I have a Korean G820N in Europe and having calling problems, people suggest to crossflash a US ROM. So, I would like to be 200% I do not mess up the phone.

just don't flash the radio (modem). probably needs some RIL fixin' and what not. then i think these roms will work across most variants.
I believe it has something to do with isis. The rep told me that all SIMs are isis now.
To maintain security, I am guessing it has to be the TMO baseband.
I could be wrong.

that's easy. just flash the correct modem from the carrier. this is going to be fun.
Yeah, this should work just fine. Does anyone have the modem files?
I have a request into Samsung for a complete dump for recovery, but no word yet.

Is is possible to flash back just the stock kernel and keep the international ROM, or will that reinstate the T-Mobile lock?
Also, I went ahead and filed a complaint with the FCC that I believe T-Mobile is violating the new unlock law. Essentially, T-Mobile is making customers who buy the phone outright get service and I don't think this is appropriate. I got an email today that the complaint was served to T-Mobile and they have 30 days to reply. Let's see what happens.
This is the site I used to file the complaint:

Yeah , i'm really hoping this works.. i hate that Tmobile came up with this **** app ,, why are we at fault cause their customers sell phones
Hi guys!
Did it worked?
Cheers!
This is happening with all new T-mobile phones. They have a eligibility requirement where the phone must be used on a T-mobile account for 40 days before it can be unlocked through their "unlock device" app. Which is honestly... a piece of ****.
SOLUTION: 1. unlock code. 2. Non T-mobile rom. 3. ??? 4. profit! (jk on 3.)
What many have been doing on other phones: m9, z3, etc, you flash a non t-mobile rom! that's pretty much it. You flash a non T-mobile ROM and put in your sim card, it should ask for the sim unlock pin/code. After you do that ONCE, it should be completely unlocked, you can go back to stock or any other rom and it should be sim unlocked!
I have not tried it on the s6 edge myself. BUT it should be the same thing.
GOOD LUCK!
I with for code
I'm ready, I bought the code but I don't received yet.. I have my phone rooted, with twrp. I download the ROM and the kernel..
I think the code arrived in two days... But if somebody haves news.. Please.. Tell us.

Which S9 Version to avoid when considering TWRP/ROMS ?

Hi there !
I am a veteran ROM installer Thinking of buying used samsungs for the family.
I am looking at used S9's, but wanted to ask, which versions of the S9 to avoid when considering simple flashing, bootloader unlocking, and TWRP installations ?
That way I don't burn money for nothing.
Thanks !

Get international Samsung S9 only one that comes with the option to oem unlock in developer settings to be able to flash twrp magisk and custom roms or GSI (but you wouldn't need to do that thiers plenty of custom roms for the S9)

The thing is though, what had made me go ahead was that I'd read somewhere that Lineage supported g960F/D.
I'll try and find the link but, in case you're reading this now, does that sound impossible?

SM-G960F
SM-G960F/DS
SM-G960N

I've flashed roms many times before but not for ages and I've forgotten what oem unlock even means.
Does the fact that Lineageos is supported mean that in fact there IS oem unlock? And does that mean that I can use most other roms too and basically have the same flexibility that I would have if I had a g960F?
There's this too, PoochyX: Putting LineageOS on a Samsung Galaxy S9 (SM-G960F/DS)

That sounds better. Once you are able to SIM-Unlock, you can Bootloader unlock and flash the Global firmware.
It's doable. The Global/EU ROMs will break your modem, so you'll have to re-flash your TMO modem back in order to get connectivity. I will not be making a guide until MSM is available.

You can ask the same for why they removed dual sim support on Global that's not opened up when you flash another region.
At a minimum, the T-Mobile ROM has device_policy.xml set explicitly to ssss single sim. Replacing it with dsds enabled device_policy.xml from another region crashes the modem. Flashing another region's modem.img does the same thing essentially.
But I am on EU OTA and working awesome. 5G coverage with T-Mobile

But I am still wondering why this would break if EU and Global work perfect with T Mobile. That is so weird. I have seen plenty of threads of T Mobile users unlocking and flashing Global without problems. This is first I have seen of this. This is so weird to me. Like doesn't make sense if EU and Global work with T Mobile so by switching it would stop working. That makes no sense to me.

It's not that the modem doesn't work on the carrier, it's that the modem itself crashes. I'm referring specifically to T-Mobile branded device where the model number ends in 7
If someone on an EU device want to send me their redacted qxn or trust me with their full qxn, I can test somethings out
That is crazy... Cause guaranteed T Mobile users have done this but I haven't read of modems crashing. Truly interesting.

I can almost guarantee you I'm one of the first LE2127 owner to unlock the bootloader and do this.
Why are you even arguing with me about a device you don't have, and whereas I can actually test this stuff and find out exactly what makes the modem power on again?

Question CAN F936U FLASH F936U1 Firmware?

Hey shorty I bought it used with U firmware and just to be safe to make sure it's stock and the fact U (and W) versions didn't get much updates, I flashed with the U1. Hey I have a question, in order to update to the W XAC, did you have to delete user data? Or were you able to update keeping your data. Thanks

Hey I'm not too sure if you mean this, but yes mine is factory unlocked (actually a dev/demo device). And yes on Canadian network. You can always flash with the newest ATT ROM if yours is from ATT but hasn't gotten updates. Just make sure it indeed is the right model.

I did not keep user data so not sure if you can or should. But I think if you're switching model/CSC, the general consensus is to do a clean flash. If you just want to enable Canadian bands that are disabled on a US device, you can search up a way to do so I think using engineering mode.

Okie dokie sounds good I'm just looking into it and noticed all varients have a similar codes and my pituitary one has the firmware matching the MetroPCS firmware but the only firmware that I have found for at&t comes up as the smf936u1 at least on sammobile I suppose I'll have to check other firmware sites thanks for the reply hope you are having a wonderful day

If you're on any of the U or U1 firmware, I think you can safely flash to any other U/U1 without any issues. I usually cross reference with samfw and Frija too. Have a wonderful day too friend.
Would this enable Sim for phones without it? The SM-F9360 does not have esim support, could be software, I hope.
Can i go from U to W and then root? Or not possible?
Can I go from ATT and flash TMO variant if the model number is the same? SM-F936U? The phone is unlocked FYI. [email protected]
