Question Screen too touchy/sensitive - TCL 20 SE

It defaults to slide mode making it VERY hard to type also randomly activates hold mute etc when on a call at very slight movements or goes to home screen in middle of using apps. Have looked for gestures in settings are disabled it is still almost unusable unless I take extreme care when using it, shake settings not found. Hitbox for keys is huge also way bigger than all other phones I have used making it nearly impossible to cleanly type when I can't use voice features. It stays updated too so that's not the problem. Manufacture please reply.

locking/unlocking programs and battery consumption

i was wondering if i could get sum people to tell me about ehir experiences with their locking/unlocking programs...such as, which ones youve used with success...im interested in knowing which ones use the least about of battery power, least amount of memory/ram...so on and so forth...any input wiould be greatly appreciated
specifically programs being used with the touch pro 2
I'm personally not a big fan of screen lock programs. I just think that for something as simple as locking the screen, the end-user shouldn't have to give up anything in terms of resources/battery life.
That's why I suggest sticking with the default WinMo lock.
I suggest either SmartLock or LockDevice to auto lock your device. Neither uses up any resources.
I've perused the threads concerning both the locking apps you cite above, but both appear to have some issues (i.e. not everything working properly after the install). I'm specifically looking for a way to have the screen locked when the device is turned on, mostly because I carry the thing in my pocket (yes, with a screen protector) and want to be sure that if I should inadvertently bump the power button I don't end up calling friends overseas from the inside of my pocket. It doesn't appear to me as if the default locking app can do this (and not simply turn on the lock after a timeout) -- or am I missing something?

I've used both of those apps and it works fine for me. I have the exact same concern that you have. I don't want the device to wake because someone called and hung up after a second, thus making the screen susceptible to taps.
In both apps, you can customize how you want the lock mechanism to kick in. You can set it to lock when you screen goes off. My personal preference is to set it to lock on suspend.
I'm not really sure what you mean. If your device is locked (with the WinMo default lock), you won't be able to do anything (including making calls) without unlocking it first either via tap & slide (WinMo 6.5) or left soft key & unlock button (WinMo 6.1).
I would really like to use the app, but there is a dialer conflict when getting incoming calls for boths apps. For example during an incoming call, I initially get HTC dialer. During the middle of the call, I get the original WM dialer. Do you have any suggestions to avoid this problem?

What I meant was that my understanding of the default WinMo lock is that it only locks after a specific period of in activity (which I don't want to happen) rather than after a suspend (which is what I do want).

Any way to keep screen off all the time until top power button pressed?

More than half the time I take my phone out of it's case in my pocket to check texts or call somebody, it's always on and eating battery. Alot of the time I have the phone in vibrate or silent because I can't have it going off most of the day, and whenever I get any kind of notification the screen comes on (text, alarm, call, ect.), and then the screen ends up staying on because it's constantly being bumped and never has the time to shut itself down.
Is there any way I can make the screen stay off at ALL times (except on an incoming call), and ONLY come on when I press the unlock/power button on the top of the phone?
I have a TMobile TP2 and I'm running the Nov. 19th, Photon Energy ROM. Upgrading to the Nov. 27th version when it's done downloading but I don't think that will fix the problem as I've changed ROMs before. Thanks to any help.
you will find that when in the case it should be off, on taking the phone out of the case (i assume the HTC one that came with the phone?)
the magnet in the case triggers the keyboard sensor which turns the screen on.
otherwise, you can change the display time out in power options under settings.
Cheers
Steve
That's interesting, I've heard about the case doing that but never thought about it. Would you recommend any cheap cases, or is there a specific magnet location I should be careful of? And do you know if there is a way to keep the screen off when I get a text message for example?
There is a way to fix this... it is to disable "Wake on Slide." I have done this and no more problems.
Here is a link to what to do:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2945249&postcount=3
Hope it helps you, as it did me.
Thanks for the reply and I appreciate the help, but I don't really have a problem with the wake on keyboard slide, it seems that if the phone is in my pocket locked, and I get a text message, the screen comes on to notify me that I have a text message. Then, it's usually being bumped around in my pocket and since the touch screen is usable with any object, it will stay on because something will tap it in my pocket. The phone then heats up over time and drains battery. I want to find a way to keep the screen off at all times unless, I either receive a call, or push the power button. Thanks.

Try:
go to HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL
change DisableSMSWakeUpEvent to 1 (0 will wake up the device)
On my Rhodium, it does not wake up by default. I hear the notification, but my screen remains dark
Or try this cab file ... soft reset after install
Thanks for the .cab, I'm restarting now to see if it fixes the problem. Kind of random, but I might as well ask here before starting a new thread. I started using Mobile Shell instead of TF3D and so far I love it, but when setting a wallpaper, the wallpapers that I would normally use in TF3D, (480x800), it makes me select or crop out part of the photo to use as a background in Mobile Shell. I can't tell if it actually gets blurry (I would think so, because it's stretching the picture), but does anyone know why it wants me to only use a certain portion of the background instead of just setting the entire picture? Thanks,
More than likely, the version of Mobile Shell you have is either not designed for WVGA or there is a setting somewhere in there that allows you to change it and you haven't found it yet.
Am not a expert on mobile Shell, but according to their website, the latest version (3.5) does support WVGA.
Another option is to, if you have Adobe Photo shop or something similar, scale down the entire picture to the size it reccomends.
Otherwise, if you have a version earlier then 3.5, maybe you could upgrade and see if it makes any difference.

Nuisances: List Yours...

Mine in decreasing order of annoyance:
Decreased 3G/4G/WiFi reception comparing to previous phone (EVO 4G).
Touchwiz:
Full charge sound.
Contacts not prioritizing contact pictures from FB/Twitter/Skype over Google.
Dialpad is convoluted (too many steps to make a call) and fugly.
Lockscreen. Ewww.
Bottom touch buttons backlight shuts off 2-3 seconds after screen is touched (should be longer).
Power button on side of phone.
You know you can change the background on your lockscreen in settings. Still not the best lockscreen available but there are plenty of options in the market. you can change the duration of the backlight for the bottom buttons in display settings under "touch key light duration".

Can't help you with most. But in settings/ display you can adjust the display timing for what Samsung refers to as Touch Keys.

Also, the location of the power button will be updated in new roms...
"1. Decreased 3G/4G/WiFi reception comparing to previous phone (EVO 4G)."
Can this be fixed with updates? I really hope so, that is my only issue with the phone currently.
Mine in decreasing order of annoyance:
Decreased 3G/4G/WiFi reception comparing to previous phone (MoPho).
LED is blue or red, thats it (tried diferent options incl. apk's... all to no avail).
No landscape mode for TW
Speaker full volume / clarity at said full volume is good, but speaker does strain infrequently and is not as loud as MoPho's (barely but still noticeable)
Wow, thanks for the bottom key tweak. Overlooked that one.
My complaint about the lockscreen is the plainess and lack of features it possesses. Sense simply blows TW away at the moment.
Yeah, Sense is plenty better, but TW isn't that bad, other than the lock screen.....and the way they have it set up to select your widgets.....but it's okay.
DITTO tho on the data, that's a biggie. I'm returning mine because of this. I need data, I use it more than the phone, lol
1. The vibration when I received a text was insanely too long, but I can't figure out how to adjust the pattern.
2. 4G keeps going to sleep while I'm streaming music with the display off, and I have to wake the phone to get the music to start streaming again.
Nothing else is really bothering me right now. Except I'd like a better lock screen.

I suppose if you like 1gb+ roms, sure.
Touchwiz is incredibly easy to theme. I'm sure there will be an 8 lockscreen mod port soon.

Lack of airplane mode in the shade pull-down. My office has zero reception, so need to rely on Google voice during office hours.
Will probably use anycut to put an airplane-mode shortcut on the homescreen.
Biggest ones for me right now concern the dialer:
- No instant-call button on the dialer's Favorites or Contacts tabs - you have to tap the name, then call on the second screen. On stock Android it has a phone icon right there at the right side of each name's field. No clue why they'd go and remove that, it's extremely useful.
- No way to turn off the huge photos next to people's names - I always turned those off on stock to make it just a list of names with the phone icon on the right - it showed a lot more names per screen that way. Again, no idea why a feature like that gets removed.

If you swipe your finger right to left over their name it calls them. If you swipe left to right it brings you into messaging. I actually like it more than the stock call buttons. Keeps the contacts menu more clean imo.
First. I am rooted so there is a possibility it is the rooted Kernel that is doing this... but maybe not as it is radio related.
Twice today lost signal on the golf course (and in addition to phone signal lost data so my GPS Golf App wasn't usable when I needed it for distance to the green)... but couldn't get the phone to trigger signal back on even if I put the phone in Airplane Mode (both times) and back out. Also tried turning roaming off and on.
Both times I HAD to turn the phone completely off and then back on. When it came back on I had 4 bars (but had previously been unable to connect).
Not good...
When I was playing with the phone @ the sprint store I noticed that airplane mode option pop up if i hit the power switch while in phone mode.

No biggie, as I'm sure all that try will find out, but he means your "other left" and "other right" (as my father used to say as I was growing up), i.e. the swipe directions described are actually the opposite directions.
Cheers!

AWESOME, thanks. Don't know how I forgot that!
When I'm texting with Swype, the language switches to Espanol all the time because the language button is right next to the comma button.
It's really annoying, any way to turn it off?
I can't for the life of me figure out how to keep the screen from turning off while the phone is plugged in. Its usually under settings>applications> development> keep screen on while charging..

[Q] Where to submit feature requests?

Is there any place (or a best place?) to submit feature requests for Wear? I can post here but I do not know if anyone from Google will get the message. OTOH, I've seen some mentions of feature requests here and other members posted apps or tips and tricks to meet the need. The features I'm thinking of are:
- double tap on the screen or the button to bring up the most recent app. (Someone else mentioned this and I really like it.) I use my watch when running so to bring up my running app I need to (1) opening the screen, (2) expanding the notification, (3) swipe to the side to get the "open app" screen and (4) tap on the "open screen button." This is a real PITA while running and is further exacerbated by profuse perspiration confusing the watch WRT my touch. It would be nice if the app could cooperate and return to the last active screen as well. An alternative to this would to tie a particular app to the double tap via configuration entry.
- Ability to turn the screen off during charging. The 'tips and tricks' answer to this is just too involved when I'm ready to slip into bed! Maybe if I could program or script the actions... There are times when the screen turns off when I place the watch in charger and that would be fine as a configuration option. Other times it seemed like I can do that by palming the screen or tapping the button (but this doesn't normally work.) That would be useful too.
- Single button press to activate the button on a screen. Back to my use case for running... It can be difficult to get the pause/stop button to register due to perspiration. This one is a little problematic because it conflicts with the existing function to turn the screen off with a button tap. However palming the screen with sweaty hands seems to be easily recognized vs. scrolling or tapping a button.
I'd like to have an option to have the mic on the watch turn on when accepting a call from the watch. There are times when my phone is upstairs and I get an incoming call on my watch. It would be nice to be able to answer the call and give the person on the other line a heads up that you need a second or two to get your phone. Once the call is accepted on the watch, there could be a button that transfers the live mic to the phone.

Question Touch/tap problems

I'm having problems with my Fold 4 not registering taps. I tap a space on the screen and nothing happens. I do it several more times, and finally it responds. I haven't seen a clear pattern yet, because it's somewhat intermittent. Has anyone else seen this problem?
I'm slightly suspicious of the Microsoft launcher here., but I suspect that's because it gets the majority of my taps, it being the launcher. I haven't had that problem in the past.
Just a minute ago I sat down to make a video of what I was seeing in case I thought an exchange might help. It happened on the first try, and I wound up having to press it five times with escalating pressure to finally get it to react. For the record, I have not seen a correspondence between pressure and the problem. I think I just naturally start pushing harder and when it works, it feels like it was more pressure. But when the problem isn't occurring, it takes very little pressure to register a tap.
Not using the Microsoft Launcher, but I am using SwiftKey, and I do have the same issue, especially with the space key. Mostly with the outside screen BTW.
Ah, I should have been more specific. Yes, I've only seen the problem on the outer screen so far. And I'm using gboard for my keyboard.
I've had a similar issue but it seems to have gotten better. Being intermittent makes it hard to pinpoint
I initially transferred apps and data from my Note 20 and was having issues on the outside and inside screen of taps not registering. Finally did a FDR and set up from scratch, haven't had the issue again. I always setup from scratch and took a shortcut this time, lesson learned!

I actually did an FDR last yesterday to try and solve the problem. Naada. It was still there for me.
I'm currently using Samsung's OneHome UI to see if it's something with the MS Launcher. Good god, I hate their launcher!
It feels like the sensitivity on the outer (cover) screen is too low, and combined with much smaller keys on keyboards (I use GBoard) there are plenty of missed hits and no response. Try turning on touch sensitivity and see if it improves ( Setting -> Display -> Touch Sensitivity. Mine went a tad better. I also changed the layout preferences to 'normal' keyboard height and most of my misses are now gone..
I'm having same issue but not with the keyboard but with tapping on apps on the home screen. I'm able to almost reproduce it every time in the middle of the screen. Is there any update on this issue?
I've got same issue that a tap on a app gets no action. Happens occasionally. Must be a bug.
After a factory reset mine has come back too. Hopefully we will get some bug fixes with the September security update.

Same. I never have a problem in application, it's only when I'm interacting with the launcher.
I think the issue is with the refresh rate dropping. I used the galaxy max hz app and increased the base hz on the phone and I'm noticing response being much better now.
I also have this issue on my Fold 4's cover screen. I've always used the debug option to show where I touch, and when my touches don't register I still see the touch indicator, so I can only assume this is a software issue not deciding what to do with the touch. I think One UI might be overly sensitive for gestures, and detects taps as drags/swipes. A mini swipe on an app or folder on the home screen for instance won't do anything (which happens to me frequently).
I've had that problem quite a few times as well, not enough to drive me crazy but enough to be slightly annoying. It only happened when taping on the bottom of the screen. It often registered my taps as a swipe up. I saw the homescreen starting to go up slightly as if it was going to enter the drawer. Then one day I realized it was my way of tapping the screen that was the culprit. The way I hold my phone makes me ever so slightly swipe up as I tap the screen, but only when taping the bottom part, if I tap anywhere else, I don't tend to move my finger up as I tap. Of course, I'm talking minuscule amount of swiping here, probably less than a millimeter. It's just the way I hold the phone and move my thumb, it's personal, and I think everyone is going to have a different experience depending on how they hold their phone and tap the screen. Anyway, I'm not saying "you're using it wrong", because I think it's a problem samsung must fix, as I don't have that problem on any other phone. Probably too sensitive. I just tried to reproduce the problem as I write this message, and succeeded twice in less than 20 tries, so definitely the problem is still there. It's just that now I tap straight on instead of "sideways", and it works just fine. Just a workaround, I know...
Edit: on the cover screen, of course. Inside screen works fine with crooked taps.
Glad im not the only one. On the outer screen i have had times where I have to tap something 3 times for it to register... I never had this issue with my Z Fold 2
