Question Android 12L update in US? - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3

Anyone received the update on their devices yet?

It's rolling out and will probably be a few more weeks until it's out for everyone. International is getting it now and there are some in the US that have been getting it, but still not wide distribution. Just hang tight and it will come out.

Just installed on t-mobile

Yup, T-Mobile LOCKED and I got the update today (USA)

What version of Android is it listed as?

Mine is also T-mobile network. Unlocked purchased from Samsung. See attached.

As you can see, this doesn't claim to be 12L. And I don't see the 12L Taskbar.
September 2022 update for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 expands to T-Mobile unit in the US
T-Mobile is expanding the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 September 2022 Android security patch update in the US. This update slightly improves the device’s performance in order to maintain the users’ sexperience. Going by the new information, this update bears the One UI build version F926U1UEU2DVI2...

In Settings, "Taskbar" is greyed out (although the toggle seems to be set on).

Android 12L ist not shown in System Settings. You have to check the Android API Level with an app, that allows this. Android 12 has API level 31, 12L 32.

Thanks for that clarification. The API level for this build is 32. And now I am starting to see the Taskbar. Not sure why it didn't appear immediately after I installed the update.

Now I understand why the Taskbar is only appearing intermittently. I have been using Nova Launcher. Evidently the Taskbar is unreliable unless one uses the One UI Launcher. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. (Probably an update to Nova Launcher will be needed.)

What's the difference between the task bar and the edge panel as far as what they do? I use edge panel all the time to drag apps into pop-up or occasionally split-screen view, and that's what I've read the same thing the task bar does. I really miss the downloadable edge panels from my previous Samsung, though!

As far as I can tell, the Taskbar works similarly to Windows and the Mac dock: icons appear in the Android Taskbar when you are running (or recently ran) an app. You tap on any icon in the Taskbar to switch to it. This seems like an alternative to the recent apps virtual button in Android's navigation. The main advantage is that the icons are continuously visible.

Thanks! I haven't installed the update yet, but it has been asking me to. When I get the moment to, I will. From the update list, seems like there are some nice improvements!

Yep, on my unlocked Z Fold3 and Verizon Z Fold2. Who needs a Z Fold4 now when it's the same OS lol

I updated yesterday. I tried to get used to the task bar, but I couldn't stand it after a few minutes. Just way too distracting with so many icons of different colors across the bottom. If they'd turned them all grayscale, maybe it wouldn't be as bad, but nope. Also really bad for screen burn-in, which I don't want to risk on this phone anymore than I already do with having to use an on-screen keyboard (it got a little burned in on my last phone). (I recently looked at my dad's phone and he plays Scrabble so much on it that the game board is burned into his Note phone [I don't know what number it is]. )

just tap and hold the task bar (e.g. on the bottom right) and it disappears.
Tap and hold again, and it will be back ...

Might be easier to turn it off in settings.

If you want to get rid of it permanently, yes ...

[APP][FLIP LAUNCHER] quick app access [2.1+]

Android devices are meant for multitasking. Some devices, like the Galaxy Note 2,
are specifically designed to launch two apps, or more, at the same time.
The Google Play Store also offers a variety of multitasking apps to allow
you to multitask on your device. The FlipLauncher app is a multitasking app
that allows you to group your favorite apps or shortcuts and access them
from wherever on your device.
get the extremely usefull app HERE
When you launch FlipLauncher in portrait mode, 6 colored bars (i use one) will appear
on the left side of your screen. These bars serve as your virtual drawer
containing your apps and shortcuts. Just swipe to open those bars.
You can set up to 4 apps or shortcuts on each bar, giving you a total
of 24 apps or shortcuts.

The app also allows you to personalize the bars on your device’s screen.
You can change a bar’s color, adjust its width, set its placement, and
set its opacity. You can even disable one or two bars. These virtual drawers
really look like the Multi Window feature of the Galaxy Note 2 but arranged horizontally.
The app also has a different layout when you hold your device in landscape mode.
In this screen orientation, 4 colored bars (again i only use one) will appear on the left
side of the screen. Each bar allows you to place 6 apps or shortcuts, giving you still a
total of 24 apps.Just like the previous orientation, you can still change a bar’s color,
transfer the bar to the opposite side, adjust its width, and set its opacity. You can also
remove some bars according to your liking.

Just got done downloading and messing around with it. A+ app. I love this app. It is so nice to be able to have all those shortcuts right at your fingertips regardless of what screen or app you are in.
Thanks for your hard work.
at first I was thinking UGH...Another Launcher. I love my ADW.. But this is is a VERY cool app. and the best part is is works alongside my ADW!!! ill have to load it up later this evening. I like a clean home screen.
I'm having issues with your app. It allows me to pull the tray out once but then after that when untouched the tray I just get a small haptic feedback and nothing else. I have to close it.

Found this App, in the market. Comparative to the one listed earlier, but I find this one easier to use.

will it work alongside Nova Launcher?
i'm running nova launcher on my gNote and love it, but i'd like to have this running in addition to it. i hesitate to run two launchers at the same time, and am wondering if this hesitation is justified? (i see the comment above about ADW launcher but my question still stands if it's a good idea or not)

I've watched LeEco Le 2 can survive water test for at least a minute (maybe similar protection [IP53] that Pixel phone offers) so that will be a bonus from this awesome phone.
is x720 compatible with this update or should i wait some more?

LineageOS - Is There a Way to Turn Off Adaptive Icons?

Like the title says: is it possible to turn of the adaptive icons in order to just show the legacy old Android style icons. I personally don't see the point of having these circles, squares, "sqircles", or "drops" or whatever around your icons and I sure don't need to have a uniform look (in over thirty years we didn't need this on Linux or Windows either, so why now with Android we need this feature and everything needs to have a uniform shape at the cost of readability?)
Anyway I don't want to rant about this. Is there a way to disable it?
Here is some nice discussion about this: https://mobileinternist.com/disable-adaptive-icons-android-oreo
Also, I know that Nova Launcher has the legacy icons option, but I'd rather keep my launcher the same or at least open source.
I added a poll just to see folks' opinions.
Well, I don't mind it... even though I'd agree with you but consider it a typical 1st world problem:

I think the following is a bigger problem, and it concerns real usability:

Question is, do we have any means to solve these things?

True. Although what I see waaaaaaaay more as a first world problem is that people started wanting uniform icons several years ago, which is the reason why Google came up with adaptive icons in the first place. I mean, clamouring about your icons having different shapes?!
In general I'm a bit annoyed that everything on phones needs to be so polished compared to other computers. And it's not just manufacturers and developers who put so much resources into this. Also users go our of their way with icon packs, carefully crafted backgrounds, skinning, etc. (Of course if that's just a pastime for you, fine.)
What's more, since you cannot apparently get the normal/legacy icons back, this is just a feature degression. So what we have now is a bad "solution" to a "non-problem".

I'll take a look!
It seems there are enough ideas how to do this, seeing by the clever people on this site: https://stackoverflow.com/questions...of-an-adaptive-icon-including-removal-of-back
One of those methods mentioned there is probably also the way Nova Launcher bypasses the adaptive icons (when you check the setting "Prefer legacy icons").
So all the kidding about first world problems aside, this is possible to solve with any launcher now that supports icon packs. I came across a workaround here:
How to Create a Non-Adaptive Icon Pack? | Matthew Miner's Blog
The official blog of Matthew Miner. Sometimes I might say something.
matthewminer.name
.
After installing Icon Pack Studio, the steps in the app to generate a non-adaptive icon pack are as follows:
Hit "New" at the bottom and create a new "Adaptive icon" pack. (Yes, you want to hit "Adaptive icon" even to make non-adaptive icons. This basically just means you want colors.)
Go to "Background" and toggle off the Shape to get an icon with no background.
Go to "Logo", then "Design, then change the "Type" to "Not adaptive" and change "Compositing" to "Overwrite".
Turn the size up to 100 to compensate for not having padding added all around it.
Hit "Preview", then "Apply", then "Overwrite", then "OK", install the resulting icon pack, and apply it. (It might take a minute to generate.)
Click to collapse
Not related to this hack, but after these steps don't forget to open the generated apk (i.e. the icon pack), clear your launcher's cache, and maybe do a force close (with the latest debug version of Lawnchair it took me even two times force closing to get rid of the old icons). And also make sure "Auto Adaptive Icons" is off (to disable making adaptive icons out of icons that do not support adaptiveness).
Interestingly, it also works with icons for newly installed apps, without having to reload anything. You can even remove Icon Pack Studio altogether. Presumably, the simplicity of this "icon pack" only has the descriptions of the background and the logo size, applying it dynamically to any icon. Possibly there could be a "generic icon pack" that can be installed on any phone that disables legacy icons. I will test that when I have the opportunity.
This is just a workaround of course, but serves its purpose until there is some general Android setting to disable adaptive icons, or if that seems impossible, when launchers start to hack this in as an option (in the same fashion as this workaround, presumably also like Nova does and the previously linked Stack Overflow page).
Interestingly, when you turn "Auto Adaptive Icons" on then new icons for newly installed apps do not get a legacy icon, but when you turn it off they do. For existing apps that were installed at the time of the icon pack generation they stay legacy regardless.
And one more thing:

Just did that on another phone with the same launcher but was unsuccessful. The icons do not change until you make a specific package for that phone.

Not sure if it's been let known. But the One UI 4.1 has been released for tab s7. You can download it on frija using EUX country code and flash on Odin using Home CSC to keep data. I'm at work and can't upload to another server until I get home if anyone needs it later.

Just got 4.1.1. I use TotalLauncher so I won't see too much impact of the OneUI update. But..the notification bar I see. It's now scrunched up on either the right or the left side of the page. I suppose thats for being within range of a thumb. But geez this isn't a phone! Not very comfortable.
I don't like the way the latest update handles the navigation bar either, they took away the option to center the icons position.

Yes I also prefer the simple navigation bar & I use it too,
but It couldn't be otherwise since the "new" recent apps feature was added after the last update ui 4.1,there would be no room for such a thing
Anyway,If you disable the taskbar you will have the old bar with centered keys but you will lose the quick apps added in the last update , if you don't mind this ...
We're seeing a wide rollout of A13/One UI 5.0 for Tab S7 series.
Kudos to Samsung. 21 Device series have received it so far. Impressive.
__ And One Ui 5.0 is here ! A13 first build for Tab S7 it's a fact (T870 EUX for me) ..
Welcome Samsung .... Τhe truth is that it surprised me __
I am very pleased with Samsung's support for this device, and surprised because for years on various tablet devices I had bad impressions ...
From the beginning (A10) until now (A13) it has received a total of 24 updates "EUX"!(generally small or "large" updates)
For a first build on Android 13 it is generally very stable and with very good features ..
Very good and useful feature is the "Intelligent Wi-Fi" & "Wi-Fi developer options" . It gives the user very useful information about the Wi-Fi & network connection , Router, etc ..
I hope he continues on this and fixes some things in future updates. And of course, I hope Samsung continues the good work it's doing until now on this device ...
One UI 5.1 has been released!

Question 1+9 pro vs pixel 6 pro?

I'm thinking of switching from 1+9 pro to pixel 6 pro. What are the disadvantages of this device in comparison with 1+?
I've just switched from a Oneplus 9 to a Pixel 6 Pro and the only things I am missing are the alert slider, face unlock and the smaller pre-Android 12 quick settings with separate wifi and data toggles. Apart from that everything is either the same or better. I got sick of the bugs in my Oneplus 9, especially a significant Android Auto one which does not occur on the Pixel.
Just a note that if you root you can use a Magisk Module to get face unlock.

I did that earlier today, but it still only means two quick settings per row instead of the six I use to have on the OnePlus.

The QuickSettings style is from the first item in my list above. StatusBar items I modified using the second item in my list. The third item in my list, Themer, has the ability to enlarge the clock in the QQS (Quick QuickSettings / first swipe down), so I might try it again and see if it'll play nice with both of the other modifications.
Note that although the options I chose in the first two modifications work with each other just fine, note that doesn't guarantee they'll keep working together, but I hope they do. The first item appears to override the second item as far as QuickSettings, at least for me.
