Question Upgrading rooted G60s to Android 12 - Moto G40 / G60

Hi,
I've got a Motorola G60s (XT2133-2, LISBON RETEU). Hope this forum fits, otherwise please advise where to ask.
My phone is on Android 11 (Build RRLS31.Q2X-70-44-3) and rooted with Magisk. So far I did updates within the Android 11 line by patching BOOT.IMG with Magisk and then flashing all components listed in SERVICEFILE.XML with MFASTBOOT while replacing BOOT.IMG with the patched file.
For some days Lolinet is offering RETEU_12_S3RL32.114-25 now which probably is Android 12.
Is the way I described valid for upgrading from A11 to A12?

Hello,
Unfortunately, this is the wrong section for the G60s. And...I couldn't find a dedicated section for this model, so...I have nowhere else to point you to.
However, flashing the ROM this way should be ok. Since you already have an unlocked bootloader and, by the looks of it, you already know your way around rooting and flashing without LMSA, I think you should be fine.
If you can, try to connect your phone to a Windows PC running LMSA and see if the new version pops up this way. This would be probably the safest way to update, in case you don't have the update already on your phone, through the software udpater.
As always, my advice would be having a backup at hand, just in case things go south. But...otherwise, I think it should be fine. And also, pay attention to the servicefile xml and adjust accordingly, in case some things are different (like the number of spareschunk files, since they might be different from one Android version to another). If they're less than expected, the worst thing that could happen is you'll get an error for "whatever file not found". But if they're more (like you're expecting 9, but they're actually 10)...things will not get flashed, and phone might not boot correctly. So, just double check to make sure everything's fine in this regard.
Also, before rooting, I would go for a test drive without root. Just to make sure the phone boots as it is. After that, if you really need root, you could go through the same procedure to root your phone.
Hope this helps.

It does. That's why a backup would be necessary in this case.
If you wanna do it without resetting data, you can only do it from fastboot, aaand...even then, I would recommend having a backup at hand, in case things don't go as planned.
Usually, what you would want is an OTA you can sideload. But...there's no such thing available, for as far as I know.

I would hold off if I was you.
I have a G60s, I upgraded last week. It broke it. Seems to be causing issues for this model speciifically.
I have a thread over on Reddit. Should explain my situation. Seems the same for a couple of others.
At this point, if a factory reset doesn't work, I will attempt to downgrade to A11.
https://www.reddit.com/r/MotoG/comments/z17y3x

I can report that this process was absolutely painless. I installed S3RL32.114-25 which gave me A12 and then S3RLS32.114-25-3 which raised the security patch level to 11/2022.

One plus 5t root issue on new phone that son has buggered up!

Hello, my 17 year old got the new one plus 5t yesterday,
He rooted the phone but then realised he couldn’t use certain apps with it rooted, so he uninstalled magisk
He rebooted the phone but it only went into custom recovery and wouldn’t load an OS
Because that didn’t work, he tried flashing an OTA update.
Now his phone is stuck on an upside down screen and a fuzzy section on it.
I know ZERO about android phones.
Should I wait for the support to open at one plus? Or is there something I can do to fix this?

tell him to download this (full firmware)
https://otafsg.h2os.com/patch/amazo...xygen_43_OTA_011_all_1804241056_afd261322.zip
Boot to recovery, copy zip to internal storage, swipe to wipe and flash the zip.
p/s if it cannot boot to custom rec then use this guide

Thanks so much for your reply,
In the end I spoke to one plus and they couldn’t fix it, they said I could exchange it free of charge, so he got a brand new phone yesterday! Thank god. I’m never letting him root it again tho, he only had it 24hours!!!

You should let him experiment again, this time with some more reading here on the forum before though. He can learn a great deal about how different systems are built and the working parts of them.
And mostly since it's really fun, these days its really hard, close to impossible to mess up the phone bad.
Yes - He should be allowed to root it again - He needs practice

I'm also in that opinion. He should be allowed to root again.
I may have an idea why this happened: Instead of an Oneplus 5T Firmware, he may have flashed a Oneplus 5 Firmware..
you mentioned an upside down turned Screen... well, the normal oneplus 5 had their Display assembled upside down and oneplus thought it would Fixing it by turn the Display Output by 180° by Software configuration. Your son should be Aware of that Oneplus 5 and 5T are different devices.
First step is using fastboot adb tool to flash some custom recovery first such as twrp, then download the latest oxygen system from oneplus official website(should be about 1.6gb) flash it inside and reboot. U will get a official system with official recovery set everything up. Then flash the custom recovery again and flash custom kernals such as bluespark or franco. goto the google pay or other root blocked app to set up everything.
Now you can flash the magisk to get root and activate magisk hide immediately right after u reboot. Remenber to tick the apps you need to hide the root for.
Wish u success:good:

Pie? Help

I need some clarification. I have read several threads on here. I saw another post with someone with similar issue but I'm confused on whether there's a solution or not, or what steps are needed to solve it, since most standard methods definitely won't work on these exact phones. Would someone please help me?
I'm on android 8 (oreo) still. Since it's you can't root these (because of Cricket) I would really like to at least upgrade to 9.0. When I try to from the update check on phone it says there's no updates.
Phone:* XT1922-9
Build:* OCPS27.91-62-3
Baseband: M8920_10.04.11.48R JETER_NA_CUST
Current Service:* CRICKET
Original Service:* AT&T (I bought it used from someone)
Android Version:* 8.0*
Bootloader Unlockable via Motorola's site: NO*
Root:* No of course not lol
I saw another person post with similar issue. I'm pretty tech-literate usually but I am a bit confused from the replies whether or not it is capable of upgrading mine to 9 pie manually, or anything, since Motorola's site says it cant give me a code to unlock the bootloader?

Sometimes the updater app just doesn't work.
I would try LMSA's Flash Rescue or flash update option.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/update-moto-lenovo-moto-smart-assistant-t3951714
It's the best option for devices with a locked bootloader.
Looks like both ATT and cricket have Android 9 available
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/jeter
If LMSA doesn't work you could try RSD lite if you have a Windows 7 pc
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/guide-flashing-motorola-firmware-t4042039
Your device says it's on ATT software channel, but there's also a cricket software channel, so I'm not sure.
You could also try
Code:
fastboot getvar all
I believe LMSA will give you an Android 9 update option (moto blur 29.128.63.xxx)
And it select the correct channel.

I tried the above, though I had almost given up hope on a solution. I didn't think it worked at 1st, but it did! I now have Pie on my Cricket g6 play w/the bootloader locked.

Oxygen OS 11.BE86AA Global Rom and Magisk Boot Files

Hey Guys,
I'm posting a link to the July, 2021 OTA update for OnePlus Nord N10 5G Global Edition (NOT Metro or T-Mobile) as well as boot.img and the patched version. I extracted the boot image from payload.bin and patched with Magisk. I successfully rooted without custom recovery (ie TWRP) and am currently passing both CTS and Basic Integrity. Check everything below to make sure your version matches up before you flash anything. Proceed at your own risk. I am not responsible for any bricked devices.

Hi, I'm currently on Pixel Experience. I'd like to get back to Oxygen now that the update is out finally. What is the best course of action with PE/PE's recovery installed right now? Sorry to be a bother, but I've been out of the scene for 5-6 years and am trying to get my bearings again.
yesterday i go back to stock from Pixel Experience, flash with MsmDownloadTool and all ok. Is the same process here?
HI,I cant unlock my BL,after I update your ROM,how to install magisk?
How did you get a hold of the payload.bin? I can't find it on their website.
this update turned my oneplus into a brick after rooting, after not doing anything different with my phone from prior when it was on 10
I don't get it did you put the patched img back into payload bin because I flasked the zip with system update no root

If you don't know how to unlock your bootloader you better not even think about doing anything else to your device.

Just a post that didn't even need to be made then you can get the zip from OnePlus or oxygen updater and boot img from the root n10 post I thought he managed to implement the patched boot.img into zip which is what I was hoping for I have a metro phone on this firmware switched from a modified msm so I was hoping I could circumvent locked bootloader

V350AWM30e ATT_US stock & rooted partitions

V350AWM30e.zip (3.7GB)
I pulled the stock unmodified slot partitions from a fully updated AT&T V35.
I modified them with Magisk and TWRP, and disabled Dm-Verity and ForceEncrypt
I flashed them to another V35AWM that had previously been crossflashed with V350ULM 20f.
Now I stock rooted Android 10 working nicely on my main driver.
I can think of several ways to flash the partitions:
• Using ADB in TWRP (what I did)
• Using ADP from a running rooted system
• One by one with QFIL
The archive includes the unmodified partions, the modified partitions, the packages that I used to modify the partions, some notes, and a script that I used to flash them in TWRP.
If I were doing it again from the start, I would not cross flash, because there are differences in the partition tables. Despite what the guides say, I think that the bootloader can be unlocked from Android 9 or 10, using QFIL. I think that this would work: enable bootloader unlock in developer settings,, flash the engineering bootloader with QFIL, wipe laf, unlock with fastboot, flash the modified boot.img with QFIL, boot into recovery, flash the other partitions from there.
These files are for developers only. You can easily brick your phone and I won't help.
Thank you for this!
amazing
let's hope something useful comes to the end user
Thanks so much for putting this together. Should I anticipate any issues doing TWRP ADB sideload coming from a Korean rom?

Thanks for the fast reply here and in a DM. For anyone new to windows 11 like me, if you try to download from any website that doesn't have that S in it (http vs https), it will not let you download. After a quick google, you can still download from places like this by right-clicking on the download and selecting "keep this".
You can also click on the lock icon in the url bar and then going to permissions and selecting the option to download unsecure content from this website.
Cheers.

Can't install any custom rom on A505W Canadian Variant. Unable to mount /vendor error.

Hello everyone. I currently have a A505W Canadian variant, bootloader unlocked and TWRP installed. I made the big mistake of updating to the last version of android 11 and, while I prefer android 10 for what I need the phone to do, I can't downgrade anymore. I'm trying to install, at that point, any custom rom there is. But I can't. I don't know if it's related, but every time I try to install a rom, with TWRP, I always get the error "Unable to mount '/vendor'" and the installation fail. Some rom get concidered successfully installed, by their custom installations process, but end in a boot loop. All I can do is install the stock firmware with odin. I've been on this for 3 days now, can anybody help me? That would be much appreciated. Have a nice day!

Ok, so if I understand correctly I'll need to find custom roms specific to the A505W? which seem to be VERY rare.

So far, only international variants(F and FN) are being built so we don't know if any rom will work on W variants. Maybe try GSI, they are almost the same but they mostly differ in vendor

yes, you should definitely check GSI and sGSI out. Some of the a50 users manage to boot android 13 dp1 on A50. for GSIs https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/treble-enabled-device-development-a-ab-roms.7260/

I'm on it. I think I found one GSI rom that is working pretty well for now. I need this phone to do a very specific job. I prefers magisk 23 for this since I need magisk hide. So I tend to go with older version of android (10 or 11). Also, the lastest stock firmware was not really up to the task either (got many bugs) and I made the mistake to update my android 10 stock, which was working perfectly, to the last official version of 11, so no downgrade possible for me. I just need to find the right rom for my needs now.

Search XDA for the latest Frija Windows application version. Beyond that, sammobile.com is where I've pulled my provider's stock images for an upcoming downgrade attempt. You should be able find your provider's CSC easily enough elsewhere; you'll need it to pull the proper ROM.
@AliasGprime how did you unlock the bootloader on your A505W? I'm researching this and see only paid options to unlock BL and no one can reach the member who used to unlock.
EDIT: after several attempts, I did finally get the bootloader unlock menu.
Hi,
Just wanted to put this info out there for unlocking bootloader. ( This would wipe your data )
Model A505W
Steps:
Enable OEM Unlock
Power Off
Hold vol-up and vol-down and power button ( As per other tutorials and videos you have to attach charging cable but that did not work for me )
Follow instructions on screen
reboot ( It takes long to reboot as all data is going to be wiped )
