How to recover your device after flashing incorrect DDR xbl images - OnePlus 8 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

No matter how you are experienced or skilled in flashing ROM's, the things sometimes just happens. And you are here now...
Even I was aware which DDR model was my device, yes.. I did it - flashed by mistake DDR4 xbl.img to my DDR5 noodlep.
Of'coz, I wasn't that happy when I achieved it. Many googling, many searches - nothing. The only option was to return to OnePlus for repair.
But; there is a way. The idea came from Tom Marshall ( @tdm ) - he said that I can try to force "deep flash method" using EDL CABLE.
How to recover ? It's really simple.
Pre-requisites:
1. Windows 7 - 10 based PC (for msmtool) with properly installed 9008 COM port drivers.
Follow this guide to set and prepare: [OP8PRO][OOS 11AA/BA/DA] Unbrick tool to restore your device to OxygenOS
2. Buy EDL cable. it looks like that:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now to revive your toy !
1. Start msmtool, click others (as it's recommended for msmtool), choose region of your device. Get ready to start flashing.
You'll see that the line with COM port says it's not connected (yet)
2. Connect the cable to your device - but not to PC yet.
3. Press the button on the cable - It's called "deep flash" button...
4. While you are still pressing the button, connect the other side of the cable to your PC (where msmtool is opened and ready to go).
5. Release the button and you'll hear that your device is connected. Check the line with COM port and you'll see it's connected.
EDL port will be opened for about 10 seconds. so you must be ready to start the installation.
6. Start the msmtool and wait till the finish.
7. The rest is well known msmtool flashing way.
Enjoy !!!
Credits goes to @tdm , @jabashque & @AnierinB for their support.
This method shall work on EVERY QUALCOMM device, as it's QualComm thing...

Haha, thanks for the confirmation, everyone said that the ram is fried and you have to change mobo, i said that there is no proof of that, and i was right.
Btw could you share link to where you got that cable?

Okay first off Qualcomm has multiple things in their source code that tell you you can ram flash your phone back secondly software can't fry hardware

Thanks @samdoc, @tdm , @jabashque ! I was able to fix my phone and get it back to working . I'm very grateful for the help and wanted to express my appreciation. Without this post, I'm not sure what I would have done. Thanks again, samdoc!

Thank you @semdoc for the suggestion
Because I used similar like semdoc attached image deep flash cable and followed the steps, its seems to be not work. (no new notification in Device Manager)
@jef_00 do you mind share what type of deep flash cable/ shopping link?
After wrongly flashed XBL, is that normal the phone will be hot?
(I have just unplug the battery so it won't over heat mobo)

Hi @bingchilling sure!
1. I used a hydra EDL v2 cable i get mine from AliExpress

anyway i'll pray and hope this works on your phones cause this issue needs to be tech fckd, just switched to OP9Pro for 200 bucks, dont ask how.. guess someone in much need at ebay

Hi everyone, I might need some help here...I have a OnePlus 8T EU model and I too have flashed the wrong xbl.img (DDR5 instead of DDR4X in my case). Reading this post gave me some hope and I bought an EDL cable, looking just as the one in the picture OP posted.
My phone has never been in EDL mode before, therefore it is not showing up at all in device manager, no QHUSB_BULK, no anything. It is therefore impossibile for me to try and install the drivers by updating the device entry there, as specified in the guide.
I tried to install the drivers in several other ways, using an installer executable or manually installing the .inf files, but the outcome is always the same: after following all the steps given, MSM, as well as Device manager, do not read my device.
What can I possibly try differently here?

İssues are with your Windows and quallcom drivers probably... I remember I had to switch to safemod in order to installl quallcom drivers.

I'm facing the same issue. Flashed ddr5 firmware instead of ddr4. The phone is completely hard bricked and is not showing on device manager as well.
Will the edl cable enable the connectivity so that i can do MSM?
Ordered youkiloon hydra v2 edl cable and planning to test tomorrow.

I did not put battery to frizer.
Also I measured the voltage
just a guess, but i'd say the rom is the main problem. it can't boot because of the error you've got there so after a while the buttons stop responding...when you put it into the fridge and it gets below its operational temperature it resets and tries to boot again.can you try to flash a new rom to it?
are you sure the battery is well charged?
have you searched (this forum AND google) for "upgrade rom code error" ?
and what on earth made you put your phone in the fridge? lol

Try using the one in my sig.
ooooo yes..
i heard of this problem and in my opinion is from overheating. Some guys say that htc in some diamond did not put anyy heatsink (radiator ) and that from this problem many overheat.
my question ... when it works .. do you feel it heating excessivly ?
beacouse in my opinion again from the fact that diamond are so slim , an over heating processor can cause various priblems on the motherboard that can manifest ramdomnly depending on the device...
i say this because one time when i was trying android on my diam100 , i left it to overheat when i was using it and from there on when it overheats my touchscreen is almoast dead; only the left side (2cm) works. After cooling down its like new..
in my opinion its a hardweare issue and i am sorry to say but i think it's written SERVICE on your diamond.
sorry and good luck
Any idea that where can i find motherboard for Diamond
Crazy Crazy!!! How about we put it in an owen as well?!?!
Insane idea btw
Try to revert the hard SPL and give it to the service centre if its still in warrenty.
Might have a chance.

u know how to flash from bootloader right? flash back original radio - 1.00.25 should work.
now flash a rom from bootloader
did it get wet or are u in a high humidity area?
I dont know any way to flash another bootloader without an operating system...

i had a similar problem that my diamond stuck in booting up the os... no rom worked --> service helped. a damaged mainboard was the issue.
seems to be the same with your diamond.
My suspicion is that you have a bad connection somewhere or a bad rom chip..
When we had problems with hard drives what we used to do is put the drive into a freezer - still connected to a machine - once it was cold enough we'd start it and the drive would probably read and allow us to get data off it cold when it would refuse to even access at normal room/system temperatures.
I would suspect that there is some sort of physical memory or connection problem. I would be surprised if it was a battery issue because extreme cold tends to kill batteries not bring them back to life (witness the joys of doing ground scanning at -5c in a gale - the batteries that lasted 5 hours in the lab, lasted all of 20 minutes).
Hate to say it but you are probably looking at a new motherboard for the phone - although it might be worth getting a cheap battery to test out that option too.
Have you tried connecting it to a charger and trying to start the phone then? - that would probably tell you whether its battery or system. You should expect the phone to go into bootloader or start normally if its a battery problem when you have the power connected. If it isnt, then its lilkely the board and you are looking at a new phone or expensive repair.
i think the screenshot he's attached is the bootloader - or i may be wording it wrong - what is the tri-color screen called?
so if he can get there - he can flash right?
ps. when i had this issue - it worked the way i mentioned, may or may not work for him - but worth a try before sending for repair i would suggest

[INFO][HOWTO][ROOT] Motochopper by Dan Rosenberg

Note: The UVUAMDL update includes Samsung's silly root-restricting kernel. You'll need to downgrade it or use a custom one to avoid that.
All you need to know, folks. To get the dev options menu, and enable USB Debugging, tap the build number in About Phone until it tells you it's been enabled. You'll need the drivers. Unlike on AT&T devices, we do have a return to stock option, though it is not "virgin" as a Samsung-sourced TAR would be.
djrbliss said:
A recent root exploit I published for Motorola devices, Motochopper, should do the trick for rooting the Qualcomm-based variants of the Samsung Galaxy S4, including the AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile branded models.
Download the exploit here:
http://vulnfactory.org/public/motochopper.zip
Instructions:
Extract the entire contents of the zip file.
If you are using Windows, ensure you have installed the latest Samsung USB drivers available for your phone.
Ensure USB Debugging mode is enabled on your device.
Connect your device to your PC via USB.
If you are using Windows, navigate to the extracted directory and execute "run.bat". If you are using Linux or OS X, navigate to the extracted directory in a terminal and execute "./run.sh".
Approve the ADB connection from your PC on your device.
Warning:
At this point, since there are no custom recoveries or stock images available, it may not be possible to repair your device should you accidentally break it. Please be aware of this before performing any modifications to your phone.
As always, future OTA updates may remove the ability to regain root access, so proceed with caution when updating. Enjoy!

LG G7 One dump

Hi there. Would any of you 'One' owners be gracious enough to get a system dump for devs to take a look at?

I'd like to do this but I want to make sure my personal data is not part of this. Would I have to wipe my phone first?I don't own a laptop but have access to one. I'll try to get this done in the next couple weeks
This would be greatly appreciated.
To answer your question, as long as you don't dump the 'data' partition, no personal data will be copied.
/system
/vendor
and maybe /boot
are ones that would be worth exploring.
Don't be scared about this process. It's simpler than you think. If you have ANY questions about the process, PM me.
Thank you for considering,

Ok. Thanks for your continued efforts on this. If you are willing, there another way to get a dump using a bootable USB stick running Linux. It's a tool called FWUL. You download a zip file. Use a program to write it to a USB stick (in windows) (preferably 16gb) and it boots your PC to a custom tailored Linux environment with a bunch of handy Android tools including a program called SALT which is designed for use with LG phones. All of this happens from the USB stick and won't impact the laptop in any other way. The beauty of it is that it won't require drivers like windows does. Part of the reason the dev designed the tool.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an.../live-iso-adb-fastboot-driver-issues-t3526755
Check that out and let me know your thoughts.
Edit. This SALT tool actually won't allow you to dump specific partitions, yet. That feature is presently being worked on now. I'll post back here when its available.

Does LG Bridge work? Like the tool that offers to "repair" the phone. It's downloads the kdz to do that.
If this is doable. Then you won't have any personal info revealed. Because it would be a kdz.
Other option is to see if this site works. https://lg-firmware-rom.com/
It's basically a web version of LG Bridge to download the kdz

There exist no kdzs of the G7 One (or Q9 One).... sadly. Thats why we need a partition dump.
It could also very well be that you need LG UP 1.15 (which is currently in the works) to function properly.... :/

i'll give FWUL by the fabulous @steadfasterX a try tonight and see if this is doable, i have a funny feeling it's not going to. (and i thought my G4 was frustrating...)
in regular ubuntu, lsusb shows: Bus 001 Device 004: ID 1004:631c LG Electronics, Inc. G2/Optimus Android Phone [MTP mode] - i'll see if anything shakes down in FWUL and reply back either way, cheers!
Any luck with the system and vendor partitions dump?
I installed several drivers, but could not get a new COM port to show up in Device Manager.
Does anyone have a working driver for LGUP?
I was prepared to test out uppercut.exe with LGUP, but getting hung up on prerequisite 4 as indicated: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/uppercut-lgup-loader-g5-variants-t3511295
Following the instructions to install LGUP here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76995781&postcount=26
I was able to detect the phone and attempt to perform a dump, however I can't get past "Error: 0x2000 skip write protected lun"
From my limited understanding, I believe we require an engineering version of laf.bin for Snapdragon 835 (MSM8998), and of course a way to flash or temporarily boot it.

I couldn't figure out how to get this phone into Fastboot. Does anyone know the trick, or if it's even possible on this model?
We might need some help from @runningnak3d in here.
@skyblaster Versions of LAF shipping with Pie or later now require an RSA key to read anything other than the GPT (no version of LG UP with that key has leaked yet). You are correct that the engineering LAF is unlocked, but flashing it still requires the RSA signed SHA256 hash of the partition, and that doesn't exist for any of the engineering LAF partitions that are out there. LAF is a dead end for rooting LG phones. They can still be rooted with a firehose and the engineering abl (one exists for the V35 and G7 -- and the G7 eng. abl will work on the V40) -- all models except the TMO versions of the G7 and V40.
There is another use after free kernel exploit out there that will work on any kernel version up to the one shipping with 10, but I have not had much time (or luck yet) actually exploiting it. If (when) it can be done, then the root procedure would be almost identical to the DIrtySanta root for the V20: Get temp root, flash eng. abl, root....

Can someone share the stock camera APK? I need it please
Hi everyone,
I tried to backup the system, vendor and boot partitions with the SALT tool by @steadfasterX on xubuntu but only ended up with empty files titled system_a.img vendor_a.img and boot_a.img . Not sure if there are any other options left to try but I am looking for things to do right now with the whole pandemic going on so if there are any other ideas out there, I have lots of time to try them right now.
There is a fella who shared on telegram that they got a G7 one dump after getting root access. Did anyone get any of the partition dumps they needed yet?

USB connection of you with the computer continues to work ok after this 12/2020 update?
Mine no longer connects with the computer for data transfer and just keeps charging .... I posted on the topic of this and here also to find out if this update is causing this because I noticed it in my post after the update.

Smoke there is the problem I connect the Black Shark 3 on the PC and simply the device only charges ...
On the PC nothing changes and I open the task manager simply not even recognize the device or appear as an exclamation that failed to install the driver.
I have already tested it on several USB PCs and on 3 USB cables and USB 3.0 speed and nothing the phone only charges and does not connect to the PC or Macbook Air that I tried too ...
This is very sinister because the phone simply lost connection to the pc and only charges or I can use OTG adapter to connect pen drive to it and that accepts ...
NOTE: The Developer is already active and I have already marked it in USB Settings for data transfer and without chance the pc does not even recognize anything and the problem is not with the PC because I have 3 more devices at home and tested and all normally connects a Poco M3 Cubot Note 20 Pro and an Umidigi Bison all connect with the PC without a problem except this black shark that died the connection with the PC very sad that.

How To Guide A guide to unlock the bootloader

Edit: No guarantee that this will work!
Disclaimer: Your warranty may be void after this procedure. I will not be responsible for any mishap that may happen after unlocking.
Backup you data! Device resets after unlocking!
Step 0: Enable developer options.
It is visible under Settings -> Additional settings after tapping 7 times on the build number.
Step 1: Install the apk linked below.
https://download.c.realme.com/flash/Unlock_tool/DeepTesting_X50pro_Q.apk
Step 2: Update this app by installing this -
https://forum.xda-developers.com/at...327195/?hash=232650ae3997a68a5743c72cdf121c9b
Step 3: Open the app and apply for deep-testing.
It takes sometime to get it reviewed and approved. My request took about a day to get enrolled in this deeptesting progam.
Step 4: Get the latest Android platform-tools and Google usb_driver for Windows. Extract wherever is comfortable for you.
Step 5: Reboot into the bootloader.
Connect the phone to your PC with the provided cable.
Enter the following in a cmd terminal where the extracted platform-tools are. Shift+Right click in that folder for getting the option to open a PowerShell terminal.
Note the prefix.
.\adb reboot bootloader
Step 5: Install the driver.
Open the device manager and right-click on the "Android" device. Choose "Update driver" option.
Select the manual installation option. Now, select the option at the top called "All devices".
Click the "Have Disk" button and then choose the .inf file in the usb_driver folder.
Choose "Android Bootloader Interface" option.
It will show "Operation completed successfully" message.
Step 6: Unlock time.
.\fastboot flashing unlock
Your device will show a warning.
Now is the time to rethink.
Vol up to proceed.
Now, the device will reset. Disconnect the cable and let it boot.

It should work. Hardware is almost same.
This may work with all Realme models launched with 11
The only difference I found is that the radio (modem) has extra CDMA bands, irrelevant for unlocking.

Not yet. I've tried the DSU loader in developer options (12 beta). Doesn't require fastboot.

And what if deep testing gives out that the "phone model does not support deep testing "(rmx3242)?
I have realme narzo 30 4g and it says "failed to submit", "this model doesnt support deep testing".
I tried to unlock my device with this. (Realme 8 5G, identical twin) I get prompt saying this phone model doesn't support deep testing, what should I do?

I have same problem! Do we have a solution?
Hello guys, my Realme 8 5G face the same problem, and i'd try this instruction. This is my Deep Test result. " oplus Verify fail need to verify signature of another brand oplus Verify pass fastboot verify success fastboot_unlock_verify ok" What should i do next?
My Device had no Data Connection Because it downgrade to India ota_downgrade.zip File anyone can help me fix this problem?

I also downgrade, and the version was probably the same for India. I had to send it to service, wait 2 weeks. They changed motherboard ( I don't know why ) and returned with BETTER FASTER SMOOTHER UI 2.0.
After I messed with ADB and face a boot-loop, to solve the problem I had to update again to laggier and awkward UI 3.0. So now I have to revert to UI 2.0 and don't know how.
I assume a Global rollback package can solve your problem also.
