Samsung J2/8.1 - Samsung Galaxy J2 Questions & Answers

I have a Samsung J2 SM-S260DL still stuck on Android 8.1. Some of the apps I use are now only compatible with Android 9 +. Is there any way to force an upgrade to Android 9 or 10?

It looks like 8.1 is the latest OEM release for that device.
Your only option to run a newer version of Android is with a custom ROM or a GSI. However, all the development I see is for the J200/J210, not the S260.

Yah, I figured that. Do you know where I can find instructions on how to do that for my particular phone?

If there is no development available, the lack of a custom recovery makes things difficult.
Can you confirm whether your device is a SM-J260 or -S260? Settings > About should tell you; the model number is also printed on the back but can be hard to read

Hmm. Without a custom recovery, your options are pretty limited.
Are you able to unlock your bootloader?

In terms of custom ROMs no. Your version of the phone can't be bootloader unlocked. Only the European version (g710em) can be unlocked.

Yeah but nothing is officially supported and roms require android 9. Once a phone gets updated to android 9 it loses fastboot.
There isnt a dev with ulm.. i have stopped any development myself since i dont have a computer to compile or even work with via ssh for remote

Technically yes, but you do have some options, you can root and use GSI ROMs, there's a thread here about how to do that, but you lose fingerprint function.
Second option would be to run Black Magic 5G Beta, there's also a post on here about how to do that.
So those are your current options, unlock an install a GSI ROM like Havoc. Install Black Magic 5G Beta, or just leave it stock and wait for a Global ROM to be released by Nubia.

Flashed Global ROM over VodaFone stock ROM, Can I relock bootloader? (Redmi Note 8T)

Hey guys, I know people ask this all the time but please help a noobie out.
I bought this phone online back in 2019 and it came with a VodaFone ROM. Today I installed Android 11 Update but I didn't like what they did with 3rd party launchers not being able to use gestures so I unlocked bootloader and flashed the official Global ROM (MIUI 12 Android 10) with XiaomiTool V2, but now I can't use some essential apps and also I'm worried cuz my phone is unlocked and not secure.
I already checked on Xiaomi's oficial Product Authentication and it has a green tick and it says: "Congratulations! You can be assured the phone you have purchased is the official international version." That means I don't have a Chinese Version right?
So my question is can I safely lock bootloader without bricking my device?

OEM Unlock on SM-G960F

Hello all, I would like ask about OEM Unlock on SM-G960F, because in Developer Mode I haven't "OEM Unlock" option but I would like flash custom rom.
Please tell me is it possible flash LineageOS 17.1 or 18.1 if I have Exynos on my Galaxy S9?
By the way, stock rom is better than LineageOS for you?
Regards!

Question Is there any way to get Samsung DEX on this phone?

As this phone shares the same chip as the samsung galaxy note 10 would it be possible to port it from that phone and get DEX?
Set up and use Samsung DeX on your Galaxy phone or tablet
Samsung DeX gives you a PC-like experience on phones or tablets. Once it's plugged into a monitor or TV, it feels like you're using a computer or laptop.

It's not just a matter of porting the app, I think you'd have to port the whole firmware (system at the very least) since I'm almost certain DeX has some dependencies inside framework which probably don't exist in stock firmware.

If it's on the list on the link I provided previously, it's doable. Courtesy of Samsung. Sometimes Samsung has pleasant unexpected surprises...

Note 10 is on the list, F62/M62 are not. I assume they don't have it in their firmware.

Sorry if it's not on there, it's likely not doable.
There's the possibility it could be added in a latter upgrade if the hardware can support it.
You could try it per those instructions and see what happens... at the worst it won't load or you just uninstall the added apps if you can't get it to run.

Have to disagree. It's completely doable, but with root and custom edits. Not easy, but not impossible. Been using it successfully on A71, A52 and A52s, phones that have SoCs that never had it before.
