You can use adb to transfer files as a replacement.

MTP device failed

I can't get my computer to recognize my phone and am starting to believe the phone itself is the problem. I've tried un-installing/re-installing drivers, everything on w7 is up to date, also tried a vista computer, and an xp computer. I've tried 8 different usb cables and all usb ports on 3 computers. Samsungs live chat was of no help. I tried 2 factory data resets on the phone which is a pain. Kies didn't work either. I've been trying to root my phone for weeks now but can't get past the first and easiest step. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

you mentioned that you used 8 different usb cables, one of them was the original usb cable that came with the phone, right?
Have you tried using Android Commander? I find it more reliable than using windows to transfer files between phone and computer.

Yes, I've used the original almost every time, just thought I'd try others just to see.

I don't really know anything about Android Commander but I'm going to be checking it out now. Thanks

I find using this app is much more reliable than dragging and dropping in windows.

Cannot get Computer to recognize phone while in Download mode

Hello, I cannot get my computer to recognize my phone while in download mode, thus I cannot load a KDZ file to restore my soft bricked phone. I have the latest LG device drivers installed and have been able to transfer files before I bricked my phone (I accidentally wiped the OS in TWRP). Device manager states that there is a problem with the drivers. Is there anyway I can restore my phone? Thanks in advance

I have tried uninstalling the drivers many time and have also let Windows find the drivers itself but it says that the driver cannot be found.

Try a different USB cable and port. Have you got ADB installed? If so you should do a complete update of that too

Thanks for the help. but I finally got it to work by using a Windows 7 computer. I believe that there was something interfering with the drivers on my Windows 8 64 bit version.

[Q] OTG Support for Kindle Fire on Android 4.4 (CM11)

I recently installed CM11 on my KF. I've been trying to access my USB flash drive through an OTG cable but have had no success. I've tried Stickmount and other USB OTG apps but none seem to work. I've searched the forums but have not found a definitive answer.
Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

I believe it's otter. I got the ROM file from cyanogenmod with file name cm-11-20141008-SNAPSHOT-M11-otter.zip. I'm admittedly a novice, so I hope that addresses your question.

CM11 should support OTG usb host, but haven't really haven't tried.
May need a powered usb hub or a y-otg cable

I've not been able to find a Y OTG cable locally (it's the one with the extra micro USB female port, correct?). So I'll probably have to purchase online. But I would appreciate it if anyone can confirm that this would work without any additional software modifications on the device. Many thanks.

is it hardware?

Help! I have 2 Mi Max Hydrogen devices.
Device 1: Mine running Lineage OS
Device 2: My wife's running with MIUI Global 7.3.11.0 which is having problem. Just stock when purchased.
Device 2 cant connect to any PC! I have tried different cables but still not working. device 1 can connect. The Device 2 can use OTG flash drives perfectly, i can access the files and copy paste so the micro USB port seems OK right?
I have tried the EDL method but computers(i have several) doesn't seem to respond to this device, it seems nothing is being plugged.
I don't want to make this post too long, so my question is, is my wife's Mi Max USB port have hardware problem? Is there a way to flash ROM or even just root for this device without connecting to PC?
Btw, warranty no more
Anyone? Is my Mi Max have hardware problem?
I have tried to update the OS using the default MIUI updater but it always fails, (cannot verify rom), have tried different ROMs using this method but still same error.
If you will convince me that my device have hardware problem, then i will have peace of mind! Knowing that I lost the only option to flash ROMS.
Otherwise, hope someone could point me to some solution as i would like to update/change the ROM of this device.
Thank you in advance for your kind assistance!
Have you tried an usb adapter to transfer files?

I don't think it's a hardware problem as OTG uses all usual +one ground wire on USB so if it's working all is. It's probably bad modified ROM by resellers & a ancient one.
Did you try to cut the man In the middle & update directly from the phone? Like this:
http://en.miui.com/a-232.html
It's basically a side load from a internal SD card method.
Naturaly you can download it directly to the phone and put into according required directory (no need for a PC at all). It's pretty much simple as it can get. Please be certain that you Download PROPER version of ROM for your device exact model!
http://en.miui.com/download-302.html
I recommend at least for now that you stick to the global stable ROM.
I hope that it works out like this for you & do me a favour & leave absolutely bad review to that reseller on Amazon.
Best regards.
Edit:
Actuality to make a process even more easy you can from Updater app chose download update option that should automatically start download of appropriate latest ROM versions (stable global) for a device & directly to the appropriate folder.

Unable to transfer data to phone via PC

whenever i try to transfer data from my phone to my pc even in file transfer mode it does not get detected. I tried using the offical drivers, using the workaround for MTP, tried a new cable and even tried on my laptop to no avail

Hello,
What happens in "Device manager" when you plug your cable in? Is it listed?
Good luck...
I was having an issue like this with my previous 3XL. It would say Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) . I tried multiple PCs and nothing worked. Ended up using my extended warranty and paying the deductible to get a replacement which is working fine.

all that is coming up is google nexus ADB interface, it seems like the drivers will not install properly. I cant get it replaced under warrantly as i had to get it second hand due to lack of money. It connects and windows makes the noise to inform its detected the device but no matter how many times i manually install the driver it does not work and windows does not seem to auto download the driver, this is something ive noticed on all machines I have
