The reason it's not mentionned is simply because we can't, we just need to download latest firmware and patch it with magisk.
topjohnwu stated ( and i tested it myself ) that if we flash the latest OTA it will brick the device, which is logic.
We need to patch the latest firmware with magisk, if we go from a rooted environment to a non rooted it will brick.
I hope i cleared your thoughs.

exactly, download the needed firmware and extract the AP file and put it in the download folder on your A71 device, then patch it to obtain a magisk_patched.tar file to flash in odin.

Nope you didn't understood, you can't root without unlocking bootloader.
It is not working
I downloaded hungarian firmware from frija, copied the AP file to my phone, patched with magisk, copied the patched file to my computer, booted my phone into download mode, flashed the ap file with odin (and yes i unchecked the auto reboot), and after it finished, I pressed the volume down and power button to reboot, and when the screen went off, I quickly changed to volume up and power button and hold until the bootloader warning appeared, and realased all buttons. After it booted, i opened magisk manager and it says magisk is not installed what can i do? ( and yes, I unlocked the bootloader)
Source code is up and can be downloaded on here! :
https://opensource.samsung.com/uploadSearch?searchValue=A715
I've tried rooting several times to no avail, I've unlocked and flashed everything with the patched magisk setup, I'm using the SM-A715F BTU firmware as that's what my phone was beforehand
When i try and do the volume up boot then release at the warning screen it just does a reboot cycle and never boots I have to force it it shut down and boot normally
I cant even restore phone to a point where SafetyNet validates so no Pokemon Go and such
can we unroot and recover the samsung knox?

Ok ladies and gentlemen I finally got it working, and here's what I had to do
You'll need to install 7zip or something that handles TARs and LZ4 that you can grab from github it was the second result on google for me
Once you've patched the AP file in Magisk Manager and copy it back to your pc, Open up that tar file and delete all files except recovery.img and vbmeta.img
Then open the original prepatched AP file in 7Zip and extract the boot.img.lz4 then take that file and drag it onto the lz4.exe from the lz4 utilities
you should now have a nice clean uncompressed boot.img, put that back onto the phone and patch it with magisk manager, you should now have magisk_patched.img copy that back to the pc and rename it boot.img and put it in the tar file from earlier so you should have boot.img recovery.img and vbmeta.img
With just these 3 files in the tar you dont have to worry about wiping your data again and it will patch pretty fast
Open up ODIN again and select AP and choose your new tar file and flash it
Then shut down the phone fully and power it on while holding vol up till you get to the warning screen about the unlocked bootloader let go of vol up and press power to continue and you should find that it boots properly now and magisk manager will show that magisk is installed.

Before you move further, make clear that rooting device -
- Your warranty will be void
- Some of functions may not work on rooted device, some function may get back with unrooting, some functions may never.
- All your data on device will be lost (Factory Reset is in the Instructions below)
- Flashing custom binaries may brick (Usually it's a soft but can be hard brick too), so follow it on your own risk!
Now that you accept the risks, let's have some fun -
Important: Although this is a simple guide you must follow all directions clearly
Simple guide to root your device and install TWRP after unlock: (Thanks to @Krog18 )
1. Download vbmeta_disabled.tar, TWRP for your device, magisk and multidisabler-samsung-2.6-afaneh92
2. Reboot to download mode and flash vbmeta_disabled.tar in ap slot and reboot. Device will reboot to recovery mode prompting you to wipe data so wipe data and reboot to download mode again.
3. Uncheck auto reboot in Odin and flash TWRP in ap slot.
4. Hold volume down and power until the screen goes black then immediately switch to holding volume up, Bixby button (10 series only) and power to reboot into TWRP
5. Flash multidisabler and reboot recovery
6. Go to wipe, format and type yes to format data
7. Flash magisk
8. Make a backup of efs and store it somewhere safe
9. Reboot
*First boot may take 10-15 minutes. If it doesn't boot in 15 minutes, force reboot by holding power and volume down for at least 10 seconds
Additional Method For Rooting If Above method did not work for you:
Step 1 : (Root Base Firmware with Magisk By patching files yourself, Then Flash TWRP in Odin)
Prepare Firmware files for root
You need to Patch AP File to flash using Odin to root device.
1. Download stock firmware for your device ie (SM-N975U/U1, SM-G973U/U1, SM-G975U/U1)
You need to download file according your region and model.
2. Once you finish download, extract files and keep all files on in a folder on the desktop of PC. From extracted files find the file with name AP_[device_model_sw_ver].tar.md5 copy to your Phone.
3.Download Latest Magisk Manager and Install to your device (Make sure to check for updates) (Optionally go into settings and switch the update channel to BETA)
4.Open Magisk Manager - Find Magisk Install (Top One) - Click Install - select to "Select and Patch file" - Click the AP file you have copied to your device (AP_[device_model_sw_ver].tar.md5)
5.Magisk Manager will patch the entire firmware file and output the newly Patched AP file to [Internal Storage]/Download/magisk_patched.tar
6.Now Copy patched AP file magisk_patched.tar back to Your PC
7.Download latest Odin and extract to Desktop on your PC
Step 2. Installing custom firmware files with Odin
1. Reboot to download mode and select volume up to continue:
2. Open Odin (as administrator) {Right-Mouse click--Open As Administrator}
Select AP in Odin and use the magisk_patched.tar file you have patched {The file you just patched with Magisk} for AP tab of Odin
Select BL,CP and CSC files (Use the files from the firmware you downloaded earlier) (This is VERY important, DON'T just flash only the magisk_patched.tar)
(Use All of the respective files BL, CP, CSC)
3.From Odin option - uncheck Auto Reboot option (I do this because I like rebooting when I'm ready)
4. Make sure all files are in the right place, Now Hit Start and wait till it's completely finish. When It shows PASS in Odin, disconnect device.
Okay Now the hard part is over, you can let the phone boot to system and Skip all Setup Steps because Next is TWRP.
Step 3. Odin: Flash Twrp and Boot with Magisk
Very Simple yet very Important:
1. Download the respective TWRP (Twrp<version_number>.TAR for you phone model (This is going to Odin flashed so you need .TAR file)
2. Reboot your phone into Download Mode, Hold Vol- and Power Button until it gets to DL Screen and press up for "Yes"
3. Put the Twrp<version_number>.TAR in the AP slot
4. Make sure the file is selected, (Unselect Auto-reboot in options tab in Odin) and in place and hit Start
5. Wait until it's finished, Now Hold Vol- and Power until you see black screen, release and then hold Vol+ and Power until you see TWRP recovery
Now Flash Multidisabler and Magisk
1. Flash multidisabler (Mega) (Google Drive) and reboot back to TWRP
2. Wipe data and storage
3. Flash Latest Magisk
*Enjoy
*** Remember: Make a backup of EFS through TWRP and save it to your desktop or Cloud service ie. MEGA, GDrive, Dropbox ****

Maybe should include that US Snapdragon will have to get their bootloader unlocked first and how they do..include Telegram. Or your probably going to constantly get the "I can't find OEM unlock" question.

I've been on Nexus and Pixel devices so long now I cannot remember much about modification on Samsung devices. Last one I had rooted was the Note 2. Anyway, bootloader unlocked and successfully rooted my SM-N975U (Note 10+). Now there are updates available so I am sorry if this isn't the place or if a dumb question, but is there any special way I need to do updates on the snapdragon so I don't relock the bootloader or lose root? With Pixel, ADB sideload was easy, not sure with this one.
Is there a multi disabler package that is compatible with the SM-N976V ? I have tried multiple iterations of multidisabler-samsung-2.6c-afaneh92 but am have trouble.

Hey, just wanted to thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I've had my Sm-976V BL unlocked and rooted for a bit now, but have been busy hence the late reply.
I have an issue. I boot into TWRP just fine but all my files in sdcard are nothing but random numbers and letters
I think this happens when you don't wipe your data. You also need to flash a decryption file. It happened to me at first because I didn't wipe all data.[/QUOTE]

2. Wipe data and storage

which TWRP version to flash and which odin? hope i can get answer i had N975U1 unlocked bootloader
Anyone else getting that pesky "Android 11 Update" since they have rooted? I keep postponing it. I'm guessing it will fail if I try to install. Not sure what I should do.
Sammobile don't seem to have the firmware available yet. I was thinking installing it with odin then patching AP with Magisk

2. Open Odin (as administrator) {Right-Mouse click--Open As Administrator}
Select AP in Odin and use the magisk_patched.tar file you have patched {The file you just patched with Magisk} for AP tab of Odin

Must Have An Unlocked Bootloader To Do This!
This An odin tar file I have created to flash along with stock odin firmware to automatically install TWRP recovery along with Disable VBMETA image. The tar file will also automatically install magisk root along with remove force encryption and patch bluetooth library file. It will also patch safetynet. No flashing of zips is required

This will force a wipe of data no mater what.
Full Odin 3.1.1 Bit1 Safe Firmware
N970USQS7FUH3_BIT5_SAFE.7z
This are odin files and will safely update all image files too bit 7 and keep bit 5 bootloaders. Unfortunately this will wipe data this is beyond my control as it seems to be a side affect of mixing firmware it causes data not to mount and therefore my AIO will format it. This is full firmware with USERDATA_AIO. This will put you on U firmware. Before flashing I recommend removing your google account and make sure in download mode you are not frp locked
If above USERDATA_AIO_N970_FORCE_WIPE_08_30_21.tar.md5 is newer than the one in this zip use the newer one from above

Hey can you help me with this process. I am not entirely to sure if my s10e varient is capable of root/unlocking bootloader.

[Guide] How to update without losing data when rooted

I see there is no correct/clear instructions on how to update firmware when you already rooted your tablet without losing data.
Many people, including myself, are forced to factory reset by following wrong instructions floating around.
So I think it is necessary to post a clear guide on how to update with root without losing data.
There are two correct ways, and the key is never flash stock AP without patching vbmeta at the same time. Never let the stock vbmeta.img flash to your device. The stock vbmeta.img in stock AP will enable Android verified boot and will lead to factory reset in the next boot.
First and preferred method:
1. use magisk to patch the whole AP file and magisk will patch both boot.img and vbmeta.img.
2. Flash magisk patched AP in AP slot and BL in BL slot and HOME_CSC in CSC slot, and done.
Second method:
1. Download vbmeta_disabled.tar from https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...root-s20-series-and-upgrade-firmware.4079353/
2. Patch boot.img using magisk: extract boot.img.lz4 from stock AP, compress it to a tar file and patch the tar file in magisk.
3. Uncheck auto reboot in ODIN, flash stock AP in AP, BL in BL and HOME_CSC in CSC slot, and vbmeta_disabled.tar in USERDATA slot at the same time. With the vbmeta_disabled.tar, Android verified boot remains disabled. Remember to flash them at the same time in ODIN so that Android verified boot remains disabled. If you flash vbmeta_disabled.tar after flashing stock AP, Android verified boot will be re-enabled and it will ask for factory reset.
4. Check auto reboot in ODIN, flash magisk patched boot.img in AP slot.

When you're using the preferred method to patch the AP file, are you just using a tool such as the Samsung Firmware Downloader to get the zip and then extracting that into the 4 .tar.md5 files? If so, how are you patching the AP .tar.md5 file with Magisk? It fails for me when I attempt it

I used Frija to download but it shouldn't matter where/how you download the firmware as soon as it's the correct firmware.
Just use magisk to patch the AP .tar.md5 file. You should see in the magisk patch log saying patching both vbmeta.img and boot.img.
It shouldn't fail if you are using latest magisk canary.
Any error message in magisk when you patch the AP?

Thank you for the guide. Still haven't tried but cleared some doubts. I even thought of restoring and relocking bootloader. Will update my result after trying the preferred method.

Method 1 works like charm.
I didn’t update since one year. I was on UI 3 and android 11. I was not sure at all to succeed but it worked. Updated with no data lost.
Don’t forget to patch the all AP file before with the last magisk (25.1 for me). Then, use the patched file instead of the original AP.
Use the "Home" CSC.
Magisk can need a reboot before de wake up

I am not sure, but I did it like this, I hope it helps.
The resources/drivers/programs I used can be found at the bottom of this comment.
Firmware Upgrade Guide Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ | SM-T970 | CSC:EUX | while keeping/retaining Magisk Root.
1.Download Latest firmware on PC via Frija (CSC:EUX & Model:SM-T970 for me)
2.Extract ZIP Open extracted directory and delete ZIP.(I like to keep a clean overview, so optional)
3.In the directory you find BL, AP, CP, CSC & HOME_CSC files. If you use the Wifi only version of the Tablet, you can remove the CP file.
This leaves the BL file (should be left untouched), AP file & CSC & HOME_CSC files.
Choose one of the two CSC files to keep.
4.a. Want to Keep your data? Use Home_CSC....tar.md5 file using ODIN, other file can be removed.
4.b. Factory reset? Use other CSC file instead.
5.Move (not copy, but move) AP file (AP......tar.md5) to Tablet and patch whole file in Magisk (I am using the latest Canary Magisk version)
When this is done, move the patched AP file called magisk_patchedsomethingsomething back to the first extracted directory (step 2) AP-file name does not matter.
Connect tablet to PC with USB.
Using Terminal in ADB directory, use " adb devices" to check if PC can find tablet when tablet operates normally. Use command " adb reboot download" to boot the tablet directly into download mode.
Open ODIN (no settings need to be adjusted in ODIN other than selecting the correct files)
In ODIN,
Select AP ---select ---> magisk_patched.#######.tar
Select BL ---> BL_####.tar.md5
Select CSC ---> HOME_CSC_####.tar.md5
OR use CSC_####.tar.md5 if factory reset is required
Click Start. Wait. And enjoy!
Resources used:
-Friji v1.4.4 for downloading latest firmware real fast.
-Minimal ADB Fastboot v1.4.3.exe for minimalistic ADB-installation
-Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones (for PC to recognize the tablet in Download mode)
-Odin (I used the latest version v3.14.4)
Patch whole AP take times, my device is ramdisk + no vbmeta so i just patch boot.img
Theres a chance bootloader got locked again then you may brick your phone so remember, always BACK UP before doing anything!
I really missed a decade of new methods for rooting complications and what not finally upgrading from note 3 being stuck on android 5.0 LoL, i feel sad it served me really well , thanks for the update method .
1. use magisk to patch the whole AP file and magisk will patch both boot.img and vbmeta.img.

I get installation failed when attempting this
Hello,
I tried the first method but it still said vbmeta error and I had to reset all data...
I was using stock Magisk 25.2 version. Before I do it again after some months...
1) I know I have to use Canary now is there any specific version to have?
2) Is there any verification that vbmeta was really patched? In both versions of Magisk (stock and Canary) it always said in logs "patching vbmeta..." so how can I know it really happened?
3) Can I patch whole AP from stock firmware and just extract already patched boot img from that AP in the second option? Not to extract boot.img and patch only that file separately?
4) To be safe can I combine both options? Using patched AP from option 1 and use vbmeta disabled in option 2 in USERDATA?
Thank you!
Love, OP
TIA

STEPS to root your device:
I recommand to update first your device with all OTA available using Settings/updates before unlocking & rooting it. It is also recomended not to set any lockscreen password before unlocking the bootloader/rooting. So if you have a lockscreen password / fingerprint just remove it, root your device and set it up after rooting your device.Unlock the Bootloader and Root the OnePlus 11Step 1 – Enable OEM unlockingYou need to enable OEM unlocking, which can be done by enabling the developer settings on your device. To do so, go to Settings > About phone and repeatedly tap Build number. Developer options will then be added to your system settings, where you can then enable OEM unlocking.

Step 2 – Unlock your bootloaderSet up adb, reboot into your bootloader, and run the following command. Yes, it’s really that simple!

You can reboot into the bootloader by switching on USB debugging, setting up adb and fastboot and typing “adb reboot bootloader”. Alternatively, you can hold volume down and the power button to boot up your device. USB debugging is also located under the developer options.
Unlocking the bootloader wipes your device :
Root your Oneplus 11 (with Bootloader already unlocked)

You can't get root with locked bootloader on this (and most) phones.
Anyway, root doesn't necessarily mean that you won't get L1. On my rooted OnePlus 8T I still have L1.
i am on cph2451_11_A09...patching above a06 initA06 and flashing on this build works or not?

No, you should better use your current init_boot.img to patch it. Now we can use the latest v26.0 Magisk app
Hello @Steve0007 ,
What is the correct command to enter please, the first or the second?

My OP 11 works again thanks to this tutorial : https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ock-oxygenos-firmware-on-oneplus-10r.4465077/
Hi ,can someone please post boot.img for CPH2449 (EU) A.09? I accidentally flashed init_boot over boot... what a silly move.
Alternatively, the link to the A.09 OTA, I can extract it myself, I tried looking for it but for now nobody posted it.
@geomass this is untouched boot.img for CPH2449 (EU) A.09
But FWI you could just retrieve it yourself easily with lets say Fastboot Enhance and the firmware itself of course.
Thank you so much @_Johnito_ . The timing of your response is insane
I don't use windows so can't run fastboot enhance. How can it be done with fastboot?
You are welcome. I am not the most informed guy here by far but my guess is that if you borked boot.img on your phone, it is probably better to recover it from the vanilla firmware more than from the phone (with fastboot commands). I hope i get your question right though.
For general cases, instructions on "how to backup persist.img" on this great tutorial can be applied for any android partition / any desktop OS with a command line software.
I tried booting into that image you provided, and while it correctly sends it to the device and reboots the device, it goes into fastboot every time.
Flashing it fails every time, like so:
fastboot flash boot boot_CPH2449_11_A.09.img
Sending 'boot' (196608 KB) FAILED (Status read failed (No such device))
fastboot: error: Command failed
