Question Proximity Sensor Support on Lockscreen? (removed since miui 14 ?) - Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE

Hi, since i updated my phone to lates MIUI Version, proximity sensor support in lock screen is gone. So in lockscreen - my screen goes on when phone is in my bag. On old MIUI Version (i think miui 13) this setting was still there. When proximity sensor was covered, screen was dark and no touches were recogniozed when in my bag.
Now my phone often does silly things, when in my bag - calls people and so on.
Is there a way to get lock screen proximity support back to my phone? I changed to latest xiaomi.eu rom, but there is also no setting for this. (This is also the case fo other xiaomi phones, like redmi 9 pro, redmi 10 pro. Since MIUI 14 this was removed.)
Any idea? Is this included in other roms or is there a way to bring back this functionality in my xiaomi.eu rom?

I was having the same problem. Disabling Raise to wake seems to have fixed it for me.

Can I get these features on stock ROM?

So I got a OP3 recently and coming from OPO CM13 had some features that didn't work like I wanted or didn't have options in the stock ROM so I installed sultanxda's wonderful OP3 ROM. What I did not realize was that the camera software is a lot worse than what the stock ROM offers, so I was thinking of going back to that if I can get the following things working in some other way:
Notification light color per app. I used Light Flow for this back in the day, is it still a good choice or is there something better?
Disable the stupid charging lights. I'd rather not have the room light up at night just because my phone is charging.
Change DPI to 440 so I can fit more stuff on screen.
Rearrange on-screen buttons. I like the back button in the center. Not a big priority, just nice to have.
Adjust vibration intensity.

I can hopefully solve some for you:
* Charging light can be disabled if you turn off the led, and use some third party app for the notifications.
* You can swipe back and recents but can replace home button with back button unless u use xposed
* Vibration intensity can be increased by using a custom kernel tuning app like Boeffla app // EX Kernel manager app etc
install xposed framework with gravity box and vibration tuner module

Which Oreo roms with Nougat ambient display?

Title says it all. I have been on Oreo for a month, and the lack of a useful ambient display is just such a fail I am actually considering rolling back to an older os version.
I wish not and to remain on Oreo, but do you know of any rom or hack to bring back Nougat ambient display? I was a daily user of "wave to trigger ambient display". New options dont work for me. ("pick up to trigger useless ambient display")
Many thanks,
Didier
I'm not sure what exactly is wrong with Oreo's ambient display, as I'm mostly still on Lineage 14.1 as my daily driver. However, if it's just the wave gesture: For a few days I tried DirtyUnicorns 12 release candidate and it definitely had the "wave to display" feature working. But note that this rom is still in RC and has not yet reached stable status.
I'm using the latest version of omnirom, which has the wave gesture available. You can also interact with notifications while still in ambient mode, which is really nice.

I tried Oreo for OOS and AOSP - basically the ambient screen does not display notifications anymore, just icons - so you cannot see what these are (as opposed to Nougat Ambient display, which shows full notifications, like email title, etc.). The notification displays only when you receive it - and when you do, you cannot interact with it. You have first to get out of the Ambient display and fully wake the screen. Maybe I'll keep an eye on the rom see if they follow Google's new design or go their own way.

I Tried Omni with Oreo, and was not able to get the old ambient display, although the wave gesture was working... Maybe will give it another try, thanks

MIUI Auto Brightness Fix (Magisk Mod)

Do you have problems with auto brightness in MIUI roms? Your screen brightness gets extremely dark in low light conditions, or the brightness spikes just with a few increase of light?
For low brightness problem, actually you can adjust the minimum autobrightness in slider bar, but sometimes it will reset back to default minimum brightness. For example if you turn off auto brightness in game, when you turn it on again, it won't resume your settings. As a result the screen will get darker than your adjustment.
I created magisk module to fix that. This will increase the minimum brightness in low light, and also reduce the over brightness in medium and high ambient light. The result will be smoother auto brightness step, and be more convenient for your eyes!
There are two modules, one for Miui 10 running Android Pie, and the other ones for Miui 10 running Android Oreo. Dont install wrong module, because there are much more brightness values in Android P than O.
The Oreo version may be not as good as Pie version, because i tested it in Redmi Note 5. My Mi Mix 2s currently running Miui 10 P beta 8.8.16 for Pie version testing. But it should give the same result. Oreo version works in Miui 9 too, but may results different.
So what this module do? It adds framework-res to the /system/media/theme/default. With a magisk module you can do it systemlessly! To install it, just download the module then browse it in Magisk Manager.
If you dont like my setting values, just unzip my module, find framework-res file, unzip it, then edit the theme_values.xml to any values you want under "config_autoBrightnessLcdBacklightValues", then zip all back.
Download links in attachment.
Guide:
V1 for lowest brightness (best battery)
V2 for a bit brighter in low light
V3 for brighter brightness (best for full edge cover tempered glass user)
V4 for more responsive and smoother auto brightness. Values are about similar to v3.
To check if this module works;
Tap the Kernel Version in About Phone 5 times, then you will enter CIT. Go to Light Sensor. Cover your phone light sensor on upper bezel (lower for Mi Mix 2s) with your palm till the light sensor value reach 0. If the backlight is not going under 100/130 (pie) or 7 (oreo), then this module works! My module limits the minimal auto brightness, which the original can reach to 20 which is ridiculously very dark.
This module may work on any MIUI-based rom phones with IPS display, not just Mi Mix 2s.
I also created this module for Mi 9 (amoled display). Visit my thread HERE
Notes:
- Only V4 has responsitivity adjustment. More responsive means it needs less light increments to trigger auto brightness adjustment.
- Editing the values can cause a mess. Add .disable_magisk file in cache partition if your phone cant boot then uninstall the module in manager.
Thanks have flashed this and will see how it goes over a day/night. Initially it's good though.
I find the auto bright annoying sometimes especially given how easy it is to cover the bottom chin sensors on this phone.

Thanks for trying. I hope you get better auto brightness experience after a day..
Yeah the worst part is the light sensor in mix 2s located in bottom left where you could get the screen unseenable while using two/left hands. If its in center, it would be better.
My other mi phone with forehead light sensor often gets annoyingly too dark. I never satisfied with miui default auto brightness and always use this mod since miui 7. Fortunately, this method still works with some adjustment in value.
Ok so it's been a couple of days and this has helped a lot imo at least for indoors (haven't really had any major outdoors time...).
Still gets dark enough when it's really dark, but certainly for normal indoor conditions the default settings you have are much better. Xiaomi settings often got too dark, and you can adjust the slider, but then the slider goes back after while anyway :-\

Just reporting back after a while with this and more miui updates, seems the later beta builds have changed something in the brightness in that I don't know if this mod works any more, or if it needs tweaking to provide the same brightness levels it used to.
I had a really quick play with values as suggested in the op but it's well outside my field of expertise and couldnt get it to do much different

... where to find the default values ?
I'm on Poco F1 and want to compare to the default values and adjust theme_values.xml

Sorry for late reply. This mod still works in miui 8.10.11 global. Here are the screenshots of screen light value in lowest brightness. The lower one is the original. Mine still brighter in lowest light.

So it only works on miui
Yes since it's a miui issue. Stock android roms don't reset brightness like miui.
Stock roms just set the brightness bar where you want, some will have the ability adjust the total curve even. Miui if you raise brightness it will change itself back after 5 mins or so, so it's needed to change the system default values

To me it happens on the treble roms. Exactly as in miui.. might be a vendor thing idk
Can I use this on Vince running Resurrection Remix 6.2.1 Android Oreo? I am having auto brightness issue in custom ROMs too.

No, its for miui only. Even using it on miui other than i specified in first post may not work
Can you check with the latest miui 8.11.15?
I'm currently using this but sometimes the brightness still jumps from dim to bright
Thanks for this fix!
Can you make flashable zip version via TWRP recovery? I don't use Magisk and I don't want to be rooted

Max auto brightness level can be increased from current value?
From 4095 to 4500
It would better in sunlight

hi any chance to have it without root?

Yes you can. As long as you unlock bootloader and place the framework-res file in system path i mentioned in first post with twrp
I tried your auto brightness fix. And surprisingly it seems to work on the Mi Max 3 with xiaomi.eu 8.12.6v2 as well.

Android Q double-tap-to-wake ambient display gone?

I upgraded to Android Q DP1 yesterday through OTA and noticed the double-tap-to-check-phone feature now always displays the full lockscreen including wallpaper. Same thing for lift-to-check-phone. In Pie, it used to show ambient display first when double tapped. I have the Always On Display disabled. Is this a bug?

Yes, the "Double-tap to check phone" and "Lift to check phone" options are still there, and when enabled those actions still wake the screen, but the wake behaviour has changed, which is what I'm wondering about. When woken, it now shows the full lock screen rather than the ambient display (black background and dark theme) that used to show up in Pie.

It's down to personal preference for sure. I wish they would've made that wake behaviour configurable if it's not a bug.
I wish the same too even in full 10 release they didn't change this behaviour
It's better to wake the ambient display than to wale the whole phone in case you need to check nots.
:good:
Hey all!
I am glad too see somebody else also noticed it. I absolutely adore the clean design and funcionality of Pixel's AOD, but the changed funcionality of double-tap to wake (from waking AOD to waking the whole screen) annoys me. I even rolled back from Q beta to Pie hoping they would not implement this change in stable release. Now in order to see AOD you need to have it on constantly, which actually drains some 1% battery per hour (that actually makes it some 15-20 over a working day's period and is actually quite substantial.), also during the night. I also don't stare at the phone all the time to need AOD all that time - a gentle tap to peek the time, weather and notifications is just enough - I see some of you would agree.
Is there any way we can appeal to Google similar to OnePlus's feedback section?
Hey, has it also become iOS like?
I hate whole iOS lock screen turning on. What a shame
I spent time factory resetting my phone thinking that the missing ambient display settings were a bug, I never thought Google would remove that functionality. The language under the "Lock Screen Settings" sounds similar, but they don't do the same thing since now it just wakes the entire screen. Real bummer that Google keeps removing features.
Yeah, it seem they went almost full iOS on this And it was so good: tap twice - AOD shows, tap twice again on that AOD - the lock screen shows. Why Google, why! At least give us an option to schedule when the AOD can be turned off automatically (like at some hours at night).
And to think I bought the Pixel just a week ago to finally taste the stock Android. It is good, no doubt here (and the phone size and general style is very refreshing from thos behemoths I used from Sammy, OP or Huawei), but OnePlus seems much more thoughtful and practicality-oriented. And what is the more important the pledges from the OnePlus community actually work quite often which I don't expect with Google somehow.
I'm fine with it. Not a big deal.

Fixing few things after upgrade MIUI from 10 to 11

Hi
Today my Redmi Note 5 Pro has been updated to MIUI 11 and few issues showed up. Maybe you have some hints on solving them (phone is not rooted).
1) I have automatic brightness turned on and on MIUI 9 and 10 it was quite smooth and with nice delay. Sometimes too dark but most of the time ok. With 11 update it's extremely jagged, like it has only 5-6 steps and not smooth transition anymore. It's enough to rotate the phone just a bit to get instant brightness drop to a half, very annoying and if that's the new way of working I would call automatic change pointless. Any way to bring back smooth transition?
2) before the update I could swipe lock screen to the right and there I had quick access to flashlight, without unblocking the phone. Currently there is some kind of advertisement of wallpapers for lockscreen I don't care and want. Any way to bring back quick access to flashlight?
Those were two major issues do far. Now two minor ones:
3) scrolling lists is way to "smooth" now and won't stop scrolling when lifting the finger. Have to tap it again to stop scrolling. Looks like a bug, not an improvement.
4) paddings! Lots of wasted space everywhere like a theme for seniors. Dialer for example, before update I could see 5 (if I remember correctly) last calls. Now only 3 fit with lots of margins between them. Similar to settings list. I assume it's some designer vision we can't do anything about it but to embrace (and keep scrolling)
Anyway, thanks in advance for any hints on above issues.
There is no issues on miui 11. I use OTA one 818MB.
