Using "OK" Buttons to close apps? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

The OK button only minimizes. Anyway to map it so it closes the open application? I know holding down the "X" button closes, but then I have to touch the screen.

Try installing the x-button application. I've constantly used the ok button to close apps with no problem.
I'm using black 2.0 and have never had to manually close apps since wm5.

AE Button Plus is what you want. You can map almost all the buttons on outside of your device to do what you want. One of the included options is to "CLOSE ACTIVE APPLICATION"
I've attached a cab, and below are the details on the application from their website
This utility extends functionality of hardware keys on Windows Mobile devices. It allows you to:
intercept almost any standard button: application buttons, WM5 SoftKeys, Volume slider, Action and even Red/Green phone buttons
distinguish up to 4 different keypress events on each button grabbed (single, double, triple and "long" keypresses).
remap each of the keypress events to "virtual" application button or assign them directly to one of the wide set of built-in actions.
As a result you may "convert" volume slider to up/down arrows, assign several essential application buttons to these "SoftKey" buttons and even assign your favorit alternative dialer to red/green phone buttons.
Current list of built-in keypress actions
Run Application
Emulate keypress of Enter (Action), Esc and up/down/left/right keys
Emulate standard application buttons
"Virtual Application Button"
Being specified as keypress action, "Virtual button" appears in standard Start -> Settings -> Buttons setup dialog and may be assigned here.
Volume up/down
Emulate Soft Keys
Close (terminate) active application
Switch next application
Alt+Tab (switch between two last applications)
Task Manager with charge level / memory summary info. Task manager may be operated with directional pad (up/down - choose application, left/action - switch to, right - terminate) or finger/stylus.
You may apply filters to hide annoying applications (e.g. Phone)
Ok/Close
Start Menu
Switch Display Off/On. Once you switch display OFF you may turn it back ON by the same keypress event or simply pressing Power On button.
Switch BlueTooth Off/On
Switch WiFi Off/On
Vibration mode Off/On (WM5 only)
Turn Off PDA
Soft-Reset PDA (Soft Reset)
Screen rotation
Go Online / Drop DialUp connections / Trigger Online
Disable "Power Off device if not used..."
Switch to Today screen
Clipboard operations: Select All / Copy / Cut / Paste
Memory Monitor
Battery Monitor/Uptime Forecast. It will show battery voltage/current/temperature if corresponding sensors are available
Current Date/Time
Pop-up menu with important AEBPlus actions. This feature is available in activated version only
Any built-in action may be initiated by shortcut calling aebplus.exe with corresponding command line parameter

You could go for the free and better working PQzII. AE was a bit temperamental for me. I use it in conjunction with Wisbar Advance 2 to minimise some programs & close others. There is an option to close with OK or see below for mapping the OK button.

Alt F4 under HW button
Hello, my solution is to map small application Alt F4 under HW key... I used for this application HButton, which allows me to map under one button n number of apps (for short push #1 app, longer push #2 app...), so I have under messaging button Messaging + Alt TAB and under IE button Opera Mini + Alt F4. Easy, used only 3 small free apps.

Looks really good.

sure so many apps out there, free and commercial, but quickmenu is one I use, simple and powerful, I think it's the best, give it a try. Install, run it once, and go to Options to checkk to use the OK button.

Well, that was great - AEB worked wonderfully for me. It was exactly what I needed - one button to open and close Bluetooth.
It was a headache specially with the password lock every 15 min, to unlock, open connmgr, enable bluetooth and the same for the reversal. Specially in the outside light where you cannot see the screen very well, typing the password to unlock was a disaster.
Now I only need to press power and press the button fro BT to enable or disable it.
Thanks a lot!

AEButton Plus will do what you're after. I have it set to a tripple press of the up volume button (double is WiFi toggle, single: Volume) but you can set it to anything, even a single press.

It's not actually only the toggle, it's a whole software to programmatically change buttons behavior.
Don't know what you mean with two files, all you need is a .cab file. Simply comy it somewhere to device (e.g. onto mictoSD per USB cable) and then start it in Windows Explorer.
During install you will get the settings window, where you can perform settings as I suggested above.

rotate screen via button press?

has this been done, I have tried the gsensor programs and they work ok but not always perfect, for example you want to type a message first you have to wait till the program is loaded then rotate otherwise you have to rotate back and forth until the screen is how you want it. What I would really like is an app where when you press both volume up and volume down the screen goes into landscape(or long hold of end key but i think both volume would be better)
is this available? I couldnt find it anywhere.
Perhaps you could use MortScript to rotate and assign it by "AE Buttons" to longpress VolUp. Also thought about it - but had no time yet.
Espacially cause I need landscape only in my car and wanted to rotete it by "BlueStarter" & Mortscript. But I dont know how to automatically change back to "portrait" if bluetooth device is not detected anymore.
if you have Advance confiq you can assign a button to rotate the screen.
I have been using this as I didnt like any of the auto-rotate programs.

Not too sure bout the advance config program, but this is wat i did for manual screen rotation:
settings --> buttons --> Program Buttons (tab) --> 2. Assign a program: select <Rotate Screen>
Now everytime you press and hold the "Call" key, the screen should rotate...
if your button settings don't have screen rotation as an option just follow these instructions: http://www.fuzemobility.com/enable-long-press-of-phone-key-to-rotate-screen/
Hi guys thanks for the advice, I tried what you have suggested but for some reason my long call press isnt recognized, no matter what action I tell it to take.
I fear I will need to do a hard reset to sort out my phone even though I only just flashed a new rom and put in all my settings.
I've just been trying this out and too cannot assign anything to the send button. No matter what I tell it to do nothing happens!
I'm currently running Dutty 3.7 rom.

PERFECT and no need for any advanced config
i dont have the "screen rotate" option too in my settings.
install advanced config-->start advanced config--> go to "screen"-->enable "show orientation settings" -->end adv config
go to start-->settings-->personal-->buttons--> and now you have the opotion "rotate screen"
after this you can rotate the screen on long press the call button.

alternatively, install the small utility that I created so that I can choose the orientation mode from the button that I've mapped to.

[REQ] Start Menu Replacement

I want to share my Start Menu concept for Windows Mobile.
As we know, the new honeycomb start menu in 6.5 is hard to use, because the icons are not sorted. We can move a program to top, but we can't sort it alphabetically.
May be it will be good if someone can make this start menu replacement.

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Here's the explanation :
1. As seen in the picture, the start menu "level" is like in the older WM than 6.5 (we have see white gradient on the start button). In 6.5, the start menu is like a folder which contains all the shortcut.
2. All apps will not displayed in Honeycomb. Honeycomb is only for favourite app. Because, in Favourite app, we don't need to sort all the objects alphabetically. Also, tap&hold will bring some menu, including "move item", not "move to top".
Sliding to right or left, will switch to task manager (running apps), still in honeycomb style..
For Smartphone edition (non-touch), no honeycomb, just a normal icons.
3. The left soft key open the programs menu
The program menu is very similar to Spb Mobile Shell Launcher, with some differences :
a. The programs menu will load all the shortcut (without icon)
In lower priority, icons will be loaded, without eating resources, so we can quickly scroll down, and launch the app we want.
b. It will be closed when an app is launched.
4. The right soft key open the settings menu
a. Just take the older WM settings screen. We don't need eye-candy settings screen, because we will not open it everyday.
Now, would you make this start menu replacement. I'm not a programmer..
Million A$ idea...but i am also unfortunately poor in programming ..but i hope soon it will be formulated..

In Rhodium Start Menu, HTC didn't add honeycomb
No white gradient to indicate the start menu is opened, like in older WM.
No Task Manager
The Program menu hasn't organized folders (for example : games), and items are displayed in list instead of grid/thumbnails
The last one, I can't get it in my Raphael and Hermes !!
EDIT: I can get it in my Raphael but I prefer the Panoramic Launchpad than Manila Start Menu..

Galaxy S6 Tips and Tricks

1. Double tap home button to launch the camera in under one second.
1B. Disable the double-tap quick launch in the camera options to get rid of the delay when pressing the home button. It's a neat feature, but makes the home button much more quicker. (Thanks to @B1aze)
2. Use themes to change the look of your phone (limited as of right now; will be more widely available in the coming weeks to developers/themers).
3. Go into your App drawer and long press an icon as if you want to move/delete it. The small circles with the red '-' sign will let you either delete an app (if third-party) or disable it (if built-in).
4. Hold the power key for more than 7 seconds and the device will reboot. Hold VolUp+Home+Power to boot into recovery. Hold VolDown+Home+Power to boot into Download Mode.
5. Whenever you want to take a "selfie", you can simply frame the image first, and then put your finger on the heart rate sensor under the LED light at the back in order to take one.
6. When downloading a large file (30+ MB) and you have LTE AND are near WiFi, activate Download Booster! Settings--->More Connection Settings--->Download Booster. It combines both your WiFi and LTE connections into one for amazing DL speeds. Stupid Sprint took this out :/
7. Notification reminders! Settings--->Accessibility--->Notification reminders.
8. Don't forget to claim your free 100 GB cloud storage with OneDrive!
9. Private mode... You can hide content from prying eyes, including photos, videos, music, web history, and such. To activate it, go to Settings--->Privacy and safety--->Private mode.
10. Do Not Disturb mode. Dare I say... Better than Google's implementation of "priority notification only" mode. You can set a schedule for it, who IS/ISN'T allowed to contact you while it's on, etc.
11. Screen Pinning. Go to Lock Screen and Security--->Other Security Settings--->Pin Windows.
12. Customize your screen grid (4x4, 4x5 or 5x5) by pinching in when on the home screen.
13. Developer Options.. To enable this, go to Settings--->About Device--->Tap "Build Number" 10 times and you will unlock Developer Options!
14. Make your device a bit faster by going to Developer Options and setting window animation scale, transition animation scale & animator duration scale all to 0.5.
15. When you are in an app (Chrome, Gallery .... whatever) and you drag your finger from the upper right corner to somewhere in the middle of the screen the app shrinks which makes it more usable with one hand. (Thanks to @derWolf_)
16. You can have changing lockscreen wallpapers by changing it in the settings and selecting multiple wallpapers in the selection box. (Thanks to @altimax98)
17. For those having issues with Snapchat videos, go into Developer settings (see #13) and uncheck Nuplayer.
18. For better results with the fingerprint scanner, register your thumb multiple times for it to be more accurate.
19. Screenshot by holding power+home at the same time or using palm swipe to capture (turn on in settings).
20. Direction lock... Settings-->Accessibility. New way of unlocking your phone.
21. Under voice wake you can use Svoice to set a custom phrase to wake up the phone directly to listening for a command. (Thanks to @benjmiester)
22. If you rest any registered fingers over the scanner, it'll light up which registry it is. Helpful is you need to redo the fingerprint. (Thanks to @hayabusa1300cc; post #13 for screenshot).
23. Really debloat your GS6 (no root needed!)
24. Cell standby drain? Go into recovery mode and wipe your cache, power off phone completely then reboot.
25. Go to the dialer, and press the green dial button. It will load the last dialed number. (Thanks to @Jrhoop)
26. Disable the capacitive lights with no root required! (A LOT OF THANKS to @Averix)
26A. How to disable capacitive button lights. (ADB)
27. The volume down button can be used to take pictures when the camera app is running. (Thanks @segag)
28. Use volume keys in default messaging app to increase/decrease font size. (Thanks @jambo89liam)
29. If you want to enable grayscale without going into super power saving mode, go to settings -> personal -> accessibility -> direct access and turn both direct access on and grayscale. Once you do this, a triple tap of the home button will toggle grayscale on and off. (Thanks @shappy0869)
Will be adding as time goes on, feel free to add your own and I will add it to the OP!

I read somewhere that the phone doesnt have that option unless you go into power saving mode or somerthing like that. This was one of the first things i tried doing at store but couldnt.
Why Samsung removed this option I have no clue, but it was a stupid one.

Here are two tips that I don't think have been mentioned.
First, battery life will be greatly increased if you enable wi-fi calling under Connections. Once enabled (and activated on your Sprint account, for free), your cellular radio will essentially be turned off and all calls will go over wifi. I have noticed this really helps extend battery life.
Second, if you want to enable grayscale without going into super power saving mode, go to settings -> personal -> accessibility -> direct access and turn both direct access on and grayscale. Once you do this, a triple tap of the home button will toggle grayscale on and off.
Almost at 30, keep em' coming
If you long press on a notification it will change a darker color then click on the white exclamation box and it will take you straight the notification settings for that app. Much easier than going the long way around.

TCL C635 any way to set app to startup at boot? Or map buttons to open an app?

Hi xda community,
I've been enjoying my TCL C635 for quite some time now and love the thing.
My question is the following:
Can i set an app to open automatically at boot? and/or is it possible to map a button on the remote to open an app?
I've tried several apps (button mapper, launch at boot etc) but they don't seem to work. Button mapper and similar apps need to be turned on in accessibility settings, but they automatically get turned off when rebooting the TV.
I have also noticed that some (not all) changes made in developer options (like setting process limit) just revert to normal when rebooting.
Also tried this but it doesn't work on Google TV:
[Guide] TCL AutoStart/AutoLaunch app with "Launch on Boot"
1. Setting up "Launch on Boot" normally to auto launch an app as you wish. 2. Have to disable "Auto Launch Safety Guard" in: Safety Guard -> Permission Shield -> Auto Launch -> Auto Manager: Closed; Launch On Boot: Opened Other AutoStart apps...

Is it even possible?
Thanks in advance!!!
I haven't found one. It's really quite frustrating.
I've installed Key Mapper, it requires being an accessibility service. It works at first, but after a reboot, I have to start it *and* to toggle it off and back on as an accessibility service! Which is honestly preposterous. An accessibility service should by definition start automatically once it's been enabled.
But it would seem that under Google TV, the BOOT_COMPLETED broadcast is not sent to apps. At least that's what I could guess. I have found absolutely no way to make any app do anything after boot without user input. VPN apps? Have to be started manually.
It's the number one thing that is making me regret buying a Google TV TV.
FYI, the Safety Guard trick *did* work for me, but I only tried it under Android TV (I actually downgraded my Google TV to it, since I prefer it), so I can't say whether it's supposed to work under Google TV.
I hadn't looked at it before because I refused to accept Safety Guard's entirely creepy ToS. But I reached the activity without accepting them using App Manager...
Hi
Same problem here with my 55" C735 !!!
Another problem is that i can't access to folder like Android/Data.
funny467 • 24.12.21, 00:15 • (it's better to immediately connect a mouse (or a remote control with an air mouse), you can do without them, but these devices will help save your nerves in some situations and add a positive experience when setting up ) So, let's go. 1. Download and install programs Key Remapping and Power Shortcuts 2. Without running the program (so we will reduce unnecessary actions), go to Settings -> More settings -> Device settings -> Accessibility and enable these programs:

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",

}

3. Run the program "Key Reassignment".
4. Press the button for adding an action:
#
5. Choose the preferred action:
#
6. In the "New Action" window, press the drop-down list button to select the button:
#
7. At the end of the list, click "Other":
#
8. In the window that opens, press the button that we want to bind (do not try to select from the list, but press the desired button, by the way, the program perfectly sees the advertising buttons of the Netflix, TCL Channel, Okko and HD Konopoisk remote control ):
#
9. After defining the button, the program returns back, in the "New action" window, check (if necessary) the "Long press" checkbox and press the drop-down list button to select an action:
#
10. In the list that opens, go to the very end again and click "Other" (by the way, this list also has useful actions: "Screenshot", "Voice Assistant", "ALT + TAB" (a very convenient feature, given that "Recent applications" in this program do not work)):
#
11. In the option selection window, click "Shortcut" (if you need to run the program, then select "Open application"):
#
12. Next, select "Power Shortcuts":
#
13. In the "Power Shortcuts" program window, click "Activity":
#
14. In the window that opens, click "Target":
#
15. A window will open with a list of programs with drop-down lists of available Activities. Select and click on the desired Activity. If you have a mouse, you can immediately check its operation by clicking on the green arrow (you can return to the Power Shortcuts program using the "Back" button on the remote control):
#
16. After selecting Activity, the previous window will open:
#
17. Press on the DPAD RIGHT remote control (arrow to the right) and in the new window press the red button with a checkmark:
#
18. In the "New action" window, check (if necessary) the "Replaces the standard action" checkbox and click the "OK" button:
#
All is ready:

I don't know if it works with Google TV, try it.
If that doesn't work, the only thing left is to switch to Android TV.
TCL P725 / P728 / P737 / P815 / C725 / H720 / Q72 / C635 / P638 Series [Android
] Previously, after switching from Google TV (on TVs that originally came with Google TV) to Android TV, WIFI and Bluetooth did not work, but starting with firmware 309 this problem was fixed.
Switching from Google TV to Android TV and from Android TV to Google TV is possible only through IMG firmware .
