Softbank X01HT - Internet Access Connections post 6.1 ROM - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Good day all,
Firstly I thank all of you who know their way around these devices and have helped me get my rather sucky Japanese Softbank phone to make sense, look better and work better. Excellent work.
Now I've come to the point here search results are not doing me any good with getting the 3G internet connection and MMS settings working. I've found many good guides on getting the MMS sorted and setting the access server however I think they are now outdated and the password, being now built into the JP default win v5 ROM is not the one listed on the guides I've been mining.
Therefore I ask for some assistance, if ye be so kind.
Has anyone here in JP got the Softbank internet connection sorted after going win v6.1?
THanks and best regards,
Todd Mackintosh

MMS is proving difficult. As you probably know there is a really super program called MMSLite, but it doesn't function under 6.1 for some strange reason. Here is a thread dedicated to *****ing about this problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365760
Softbank settings in order to take advantage of the flat-rate Tsukaihoudai discount thing are still working. Here is the old thread detailing how to bring those about:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298031
Any questions, just post in those two threads. They are pretty old, but there are still people watching them - or perhaps I am the only one...

Sorry for the late reply. I've been out of the country for some time and my HTC is now ready for an overhaul.
Will get on it.

WM6 Vanilla question

I just upgraded to WM6 Vanilla on my 8525. I now no longer have access to the internet through the 3G data service.. Also the keyboard is messed up.. I could careless for WM5.. this phone was seriously pissin me off with WM5.. it was so slow and froze up all the time.. etc. Things seem a lot faster with the WM6 Vanilla.. but I'd like to have more features..
I'd appreciate some help.. I read and searched as much as possible but most of these threads have 30+ pages
PS. Wireless doesn't work either.. the Wifi won't turn on.
I really want to keep WM6.. I just want the full features of WM5 along with it..
Perhaps you should do some more reading then. If you look at the thread with a title something like XDA Live issues (its in consolidated sticky), you'll find a fix for your keyboard - I'm assuming you're running an 8525 or whatever you US guys call it?
I don't know why you flashed Vanilla as well, you'd have been better off with XDA Live.
Your internet problem is due to not having the settings for your provider now. You might find the answer in a thread, there might be an ExtROM cab you can run to get the settings, or you might have to find them on the providers website and manually enter them.
I would like to keep PTT.
I just tried XDA... not appealing to me. I like Vanilla.. just not so damn plain.. wish it was full feature.
dont you get it...its not meant to have any extras just plain "vanilla", if you want extras just add them as most stuff wotrks if you install it, ive got vannila with only what i need, tomtom and my provider settings, and works perfect for me
I'm an F'n newb to this stuff.. so no I don't get it .. lol.
I just put vanilla back on...
So now the question is, how do I find out what cingulars 3G (EDGE) information is so I can get that working again.. and also how can I get Wifi working.. currently it will not even enable(turn on) the wifi...
see https://www.cingular.com/support/deviceConfig.do?content=KB71396.html to set up GPRS/UMTS on your device
Thank you very much skyyboy, that did the trick!
Now can someone help me fix the keyboard? When I go to do @ I get a question mark.. I have to use the key that should be ! to get the @
Thanks
Is there any way to allow the phone to have more than one data connection open at once?
Sorry to tell you, neither WM6 Rom supports PTT.
Actually Vanilla can't support it (need to swap some important system files and it can't be done with a cab file) whereas there are a couple of people working on getting it to work with WMXL (WM XDA Live)...

Seriously, it is rude to start a new thread for our own personal questions which have been asked and answered time and again. I am cloing this thread. read the Wm6 threads for your answers.

WM6 Installation Success poll

Hello all,
I recently purchased a Cingular 8525 and I'm really considering upgrading the phone's OS to WM6. I've successfully used the unlocker to unlock the SIM and made it SuperCID.
I did a search on this topic but really couldn't find anything that was in one spot....
I'm creating this poll for all those newbies (like myself who want to upgrade).
This poll is for any flavor of WM6....
Cheers to all...
Wow!!!!
It's pretty amazing that no one has bricked their phone while upgrading to WM6. As a newbie, I feel pretty confident upgrading this weekend...
I've printed up the guides and downloaded all the software...
I've decided to use the LVSW version.
Thank you to all for all your input and advice.
There are several threads with people bricking their phones (at least temporarily). Maybe after their experience they are too scared to come back here and answer the poll

That's exactly why I read the wikis and read the threads for 3 weeks before I even THOUGHT about upgrading. And even then I had to ask questions and sound like an idiot and sweat during the whole upgrade.
I originally went with LVSW and then with Black v1.2....I just couldn't resist.
Jim
I brick and can unbrick my tytn
Yes i try to upgrade my softbank with a dopod rom, for winmobil6 LVSW, and my phone brick after a 17% but reading all wiki, i can recover so is beautiful mobile 6, i'm happy with black edition 1.1 cyu
I know exactly what you're saying I've been reading the Wiki's and guides non stop in the evenings. My wife hates me at this point because I'm spending more time reading about the upgrade and asking questions than spending "Quality Time" with her
I guess, my fear is (like many of us newbies wanting to upgrade) bricking my $500 Cing 8525 and being out of warranty. I don't know about the rest of the gang here but 1/2 a grand is a lot of duckets
Quick question for you.... may I know why you decided to go from the LVSW flavor to the Black v1.2 flavor? Was the installation process the same?
Just curious....
Thanks

I can upgrade successfully without any major problem.
The only problem is while I am trying to restore the GPRS/MMS Setting, although I am using cab file for this network wizard but only can be done for 3G/GPRS but not for MMS...
Guys i want upgrade to WM6 but when i read the bricked section of ht WM6 upgrade i am holding back, i am unsing Dopod 838 Pro which is Hermes (HTC) and i have the following ROM upgrader (plpease look at the attached Photo). can some one please advice me if they have used this ROM for the upgrade of Hermes???
i will not want my oda to be a brick as its 3 cmonth old and still under warranty...
Hi truffle1234,
You may want to create a new thread asking your question. The intent of this thread is to find out the installation success rate for people who have already tried to upgrade to WM6.

Well...I guess after I successfully flashed LVSW without bricking my (almost) new 8525 I thought what the hell and flashed Black v1.2 on the spur of the moment...my wife says I have impulse control issues. But I'm glad I did. It seems to run smoother, quicker response and better handling of some of my 3rd part apps.
I've done ALOT of trial and error. I have hard reset my phone (of my own volition) 5 times over the past week. I'm a bit OCD and after trying out programs to see how I run it seemed like the memory went back up all the way. So I hard reset to start over again.
I finally have it working the way I like and the Black, from my low-level of experience, seems stable and more functional than the Palm I used t carry.
I have the following installed:
Weather to Go (working construction/realty I need accurate Wx)
BattMemory (I'm anal about checking program memory and its a small plug in)
O2Plus (great for hitting a button and seeing what apps are open)
Palm threated SMS (I hate the native SMS program on the 8525)
MORTGAGECalc (REALTOR, nuff said)
GoogleMaps (REALTOR, nuff said)
Batti (I like the top bar that shows charging status and level no matter what app I'm in
ClearTemp (cleans out settings and temp filed quickly)
VibraSwitch (allows me to switch between vib and sound a la Treo 650)
PTTFix (allows me to remap the PTT button)
I've tried some other apps that did not go so well...SPB, Mobile Shell worked well a few days then slowed everything down...I liked the tabs and the plug in but it kept slowing the system down...and a bunch of others.
I'm not a big media user so I don't need TCMP or any other cool multimedia gadgets so I kept it to what I need. I keep my laptop with me normally so I don't need to watch movies or do any of that stuff. Most of my business work is done on the laptop. I have avvenu (www.avvenu.com) on my desktop so I can pull any file from my desktop from my phone via IE, which is a nice feature.
I soft reset every morning when waking the system up and it runs alot smoother than my T650 did.
I've not missed a single call since getting the 8525, the Push email is alot better than 3rd party apps for Palm, the 3G rocks where I am, and I get better reception. On my T650 I would get 1-2 bars or no service sitting in my house but with the 8525 I get 2-3 3G bars as a rule.

Check out the Hermes Section and look for "Palm SMS" thread or something like that. It goes over the MMS settings quite in depth.
just follow the guide and it should be fine. I am a beginner to this too but do some research and reading and follow the GUIDE! the guide is excellent!
Well everybody, just wanted to give a brief update that I was able to upgrade my Cingular 8525 to WM6 No problems on this end. Would definitely recommend the update to all.
Which flavour did you upgrade to??
Black is back in
I had no problems with either Black 1.1 or 1.2. Upgrades went like a charm. Not waiting for Black 2.0
Used Mr Vanx's guide to upgrade my HERM200 to the LVSW edition (25/3 version). I encountered no problems at all.
Device seems to work fine, though in Surinam we don't have all the advanced mobile phone features as in europe (like gprs etc).

WM6.1 Alltel Touch

Hello all,
I'm new to this forum but have been playing at similar forums. It started with wanting to try every program I could find and lead to wanting to get WM6.1 on my Touch. I couldn't find one so I made one. It is my first attempt at anything of this magnitude. Anyway, I succeeded in Changing the splash screen and adding a few OEMs (sipChanger, Touchpal and a few others that may or may not stay.) I needed my Touch to stay fairly stock as I work for an Alltel Agent and need to demo my phone to customers. So all the stock software is still in my ROM. I posted it on ppcgeeks and ppcwarez but haven't had much response. I haven't had too many problems (a few quirks when switching programs but nothing major.)
Is there anyone out there that would be interested in this? I want to do some more modifications but if it's only for myself I will probably take my time.
Also I do have some questions, so if you are interested and want me to continue I would probably need some help.
Here is the link: http://rapidshare.com/files/102675408/plckc_signed.rar
I would up it to the ftp but I get more stupid as the day progresses and its already pretty late.
I started work on it tonight
This sounds like just what I've been looking for, but I'm not technical enough to be of much help. I'm downloading it now to give it a try.
help
how do i install wm6.1
Seen your rom on ppcgeeks, flashed it, and was for the most part happy. In the touchflo cube, the pictures and videos bring up a black screen i belive. love the wm6.1 though. I have since flashed back to the newest OEM Alltel, as I too am an Alltel Agent. When I get some time, I will flash back to yours and report on a couple of things that could improve it, as this is the only other Alltel rom i'd use besides the stock one. Also, does the rev a, and gps work well with it? Didn't have it on my device long enough to play around with it that much.
also would like to know about 6.1 for alltel touch
still pretty new to flashing roms and so on but have been doing some reading and getting close to trying something new. also looking for more reading, specifically related to alltel version please post links if you have them. main goal is to unlock gps and have fun learning about things. thanks

ROMs and Should I?

Hello,
I keep seeing in these forums many threads regarding ROMs. I know what they are but my question is...why should I mess with it. I have an HTC Touch GSM with WM6. Now if you tell me I can get the interface in general to be quicker and the wifi to connect sooner, then i'm sold.
Cheers,
Paul

youll be very suprised at how much of a difference it makes to flash your phone with a rom itll make it faster due to the applications that u dont use water down ur programming memory and that can be released and run faster with them gone ...just look around and find one that fits ur use..promise u will be happy...just one thing to remember ..Read he insructions carefully and dont be scared to ask any questions ..have fun
Perfection,
I guess so, sound logical. What would be the best ROM for the HTC Touch GSM, I've always felt that the phone is a little hesistant, and I've done the best that i've could in stoping animations, sounds and some registry hacks. I mostly use the Office Suite, Messenger, Skype and Netfront Browser. Then on trips the mp3 player and cameras.
Just in case I have a whole assortment of 3rd party software like: Pocket CM, PCM Keyboard, SIP Change and SPB Mobile Shell, in case it's neccessary to know.
Also, how does one go abouts installing this, i have both Mac and PC, so as you said i'm not scared of asking or trying things out, my Treo 650 I've dont a hell a lot to it, and it still runs good, but the HTC is it's replacement.
Cheers,
Paul

Well i my self have a herald or atlas >>or normal people call it the t-mobile wing so i wouldnt know exactly which one is the best
for that model but i have done alot od flashing and u always need to just post a question to the senoir members they know alot of the info and work arounds.....I promise they will make a difference ..send them private message its faster..and if ur phone is a
touch then go to the forums that show the names >>> Vogue or the Elf just look at them to see whihc one looks like urs...speak or ask the question for better programming speed to on of the senoir members it should show if they are seniors under there names.
Will do, thanks again Perfection3.

= Solved = Can you get a Rhodium to work like a Raphael in Japan?

Hi there!
I apoplogize if my Google-Fu is weak and something similar has been posted before, but I personally couldn't find it, so here it goes:
I am in a little bit of a tigh spot atm.
Here comes the sob story, feel free to skip this to get to the actual question at hand:
I am currently on Softbank in Japan, want to get a HTC smartphone (not the dumbed down stuff they try to sell you here) so the plan WAS as follows:
1. Get an unlocked Touch Pro
2. Get the Full Data Flat Rate
3. Setup the open.softbank connection, MMSLite and all the other good stuff posted here by guys who gave a total noob the confidence that it can be made to work
So the Touch Pro was ordered, the subscription changed (will be effective of September 11th - yeah, I know, ominous date *sigh), the neccessary .cab files downloaded and anticipation set in.
Today I got the bad news that the online store that sold me the Raphael was actually out of stock (despite the fact that it doesn't show up on their website, they confirmed the order and I made the payment last friday). After having an attorney in our company threaten them that he would have all their bank accounts frozen if they didn't refund me within an hour I got the cash back within 10 minutes, so no money lost.
BUT
As far as I can search, I cannot find an online store that will actually sell you a Raphael for less than 100.000 Yen or thereabouts, yet Rhodiums are in abundance and at an expectable price of 80.000 - 90.000 Yen (that is what I could dig up on short notice). So it looks as if I "have to" get a Rhodium, since I physically refuse to fork over that much money for a Raphael.
Now for the actual matter at hand for those who are busy:
From what I can tell the bright heads here have been able to get a Raphael to work near perfect in Japan (i.e. use the flat-rate properly, get MMS to work via MMSLite303, read and write Japanese etc.) BUT apparently the same cannot be said for the Rhodium from what I could gather with my possibly weak Google-Fu. The connection set-up seems to work but regarding MMS and Japanese input everything appears to be still under development. I know it will get fixed eventually, (still, I want to be able to confidently step up to the iSheep surrounding me and laugh in their face )
So what's the current status on getting a Rhodium to work the same way as a Raphael on Softbank in Japan?
Any help will be highly appreciated!
EDIT
Yes, it is possible. Got the phone yesterday, set up everything and it works like a charm. So if you are in the market for a Rhodium in Japan: Do it!
And once you're finishied, be nice and say thank you to all the people who racked their brains and originally came up with the solution and then put it into nice and easy .cab files like BeeGee_Tokyo, Shunsai, Larsuck, Asukal and many many more

Check my website. All I wrote there is at the moment working on my TOPAZ aka Diamond 2 under WM 6.1.
Should be no problem to apply the same to a Rhodium.
Yeah, BeeGee's site was pretty helpful to me (i'm using the rhodium in japan too btw).
i haven't gotten my first bill yet since independently changing from Softbank X01HT to an unbranded HTC Touch Pro 2 (i don't actually use internet on my phone anyway), but i'm pretty sure it will be no different than normal. i just popped in the sim, ran the softbank connection setup cab, and i have been able to send and receive MMS and SMS messages and phone calls no problem (well, setting up the Softbank MMS is a little intuitive).
it was a little tricky for me getting Japanese input/output to work, but i detailed my steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550605
there are a few other users in these forums somewhere in the same boat as us, and i think quite a few of them have gotten theirs working without much problem.
Thanks for all the great info!
@BeeGee_Tokyo: I am actually very aware of your website and the cool step-by-step guide it provides. Really understandable. Big *thumbs up* for taking your time to write it
@shunsai: Yupp, I also read your thread prior to posting. However, I got a little bit confused in the end since there was (at least for my n00bish self) no real conclusion how you can get everything regarding Japanese input to work properly. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the time and effort that went into it, but the results appear to be inconclusive. Especially since it ended in a hard reset, which afaik sets you back to your basic rom.
Ok, enough kissing up After doing a little bit of cross referencing between several threads and BeeGee_Tokyo's page I have a few questions left regarding the Japanese input. I hope I don't appear as kind of a thicko, but I'd like to know what I am getting myself into since this will be a first for me:
1. The .cab provided BeeGee_Tokyo's page for Japanese input seems to comprise Asukal's LetsJapanWM6 (not entirely sure about the name) and the Ooki Japanese Input. Is that correct? If not: Please correct me an I WILL edit this post.
2. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything in Shunsai's thread regarding the interaction between the Ooki Input and the TP2 apart from something along the line of "Good, but not as good as a new piece of software could be" (briefly summarized, not quoted!). Anybody have any experience in that department?
What I would like to end up with when all is said and done is the following (rearding Japanese input):
- Be able to read Japanese
- Hardware keyboard still works for English/Romanji with all keys intact (Text prediction and/or XT9 are optional)
- Software keyboards to input Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji (don't really need it often, so using the stylus to input Japanese would be fine).
So in the end it boils down to this: Is there anybody who has successfully achieved the above on a TP2 with the .cab provided by BeeGee_Tokyo, i.e. LetsJapan and Ooki Input?
Again, thanks for all your help!

you are complete correct. I mixed Asukal's LetsJapanWM6 with Ooki Japanese Input. I love Ooki's solution, because it forces me to write Katakana, Hiragana and Kanji with the correct strokes

And another guy here in Japan contacted me and together we setup his Xperia X1 with my cabs.
And I setup my IT guys TouchPro with my cabs as well, and his keyboard is working for English/Romanji.
AND!!! ALL CREDITS FOR MY CABS GO TO THE CRACKS HERE ON XDA-DEVELOPER!!! All I did was putting together the pieces to an solution.

you've inspired me to clean up my thread. it seems that a lot of people passing by that thread didn't understand that i was finally able to figure out how to 1) be able to read japanese 2) write japanese 3) use both software and hardware keyboard to input japanese and english.
the hard reset you're referring to was just how my intial experimenting ended. the part after that (the highlights) is the actual steps/solution. but thanks, i realize now how unclear that was! LOL
i'll fix it in that thread later [fixed], but to do what you want to do on your TP2 you should do the following:
1. install Asukal LetsJapan6 and restart
2. install Asukal's IME_31J_FULL, but do not restart
3. install Asukal's Enable_IME and restart
that simple. romaji, kana, kanji, kensaku, tegaki (the handwriting recognition inputs) will all work. XT9/Predictive will be broken. And you will need to switch between かな カナ or 英数 on the soft keyboard to get the hardware keyboard to type in the language you want.
Okay, I'm so thouroughly convinced that I ordered the Rhodium today (should arrive on Monday) and plundered brando for some nice accessories (should arrive at the end of next week).
@shunsai: Ahhh ok, now I know what you were getting at. Thanks for the update here and on your thread!
But I'll probably try out BeeGee_Tokyo's .cab first and if that doesn't quench my thirst for Japanese input I'll give Shunsai's solution a shot. Reason? Shunsai's solution is far more than I assume I'll need at the moment and involves more than executing a .cab. Still, love that you figured it out and went through all the trouble associated with it.
Thanks to BeeGee_Tokyo and Shunsai (in order of appearance ), the crackers who figured it out in the first place and the community in general for being nice to a n00b.
I'll report the results of my efforts and once successful will mark the thread as "Solved" for the further reference of future eager-but-unsure Rhodium Owners!
Reading Japanese only
Am I correct to say that if I only want to be able to read Japanese, I only need to install Asukal's LetsJapan6?
I would say so from what I have read so far.
Optionally can follow the instructions on http://www.ookii.org/software/japaneseinput/font.aspx .
Admittedly, I still have to test all of the stuff in this thread myself once I get my Rhodium, but so far, I would say yes.
Deleted. No longer applicable. ;-)
