i dont think so.. they do make a 3.5 mm converter though that has a mic option built into it. Not sure if it's what you're looking for but just know its available. Here's an example of one: http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11000048&products_id=5469

Headphone adapter

Has anybody actually managed to use their own headphones using an adapter. Thinking of buying the XDA Orbit but I'm cautious about the usb headphone socket.
Thanks,

the bundled headphones are absolute toss! i'd love to be able to use my own...

Expansys will ship the adapter on the 8th of December (http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=138247) . I haven't found this adapter anywhere else and I don't know of anyone who has it (except one guy in this very forum???) so I can't let you know if it's acceptable and working as promised or not.
One thing that should be VERY interesting is if the radio reception is good with this adapter and a pair of standard headphones attached to it (and using the FM radio registry hack). Has anybody (who has the adapter of course...) tried it?
well if it's the same as the spv m3100 socket then this should work, not that i have any confidence in my ability to successfully do it

Any progress on adapters for this device? It's a bit of a setback to not be able to use your own headphones with this device isn't it? Maybe I just need to get an ipod and shut up but hell, seems like a shame when i could use my old magician as an mp3 player.
Here's someone who uses the HTC S620 Audio Jack Converter.

And is the sound level loud enough with this adaptor and a good headphone. I mean with the media player because for all other applications (FM radio, phone, etc...) it's OK.

Does this registry hack exist? I would love to be able to use my own headphones instead of the crappy XDA ones.
HKLM/System/State/Hardware/
set Headset to '1'
but the next time, your headset is connected and reconnected, the registry entry is again reset to '0'
it makes no sence to use the 'hack', cause all You will get is broadband noise without an antenna connected.
if you are familar with soldering, you can open the mic-housing (carefully with your fingernails), unsolder the headphones, and replace it with an 3.5mm female jack. So you can use Your own headphones, and the antenna is still connected.

No it doesnt, although i have this adapter in my car so i can run the mp3s off my phone, and the car stereo has radio anyway, which i may add never has anything good on anyway
Also, when this adapter is connected to the car, when someone rings i can hear them through the cars speakers but the adapter blocks the microphone signal so the person calling cannot hear me

This is actually quite easy to do, just buy a socket from Maplin for about £3 then solder between the mic and the crappy htc eadphones. Viola - I now have my senheissers back AND mic and radio function! OK I do have about 2 metres of cable to route around my clothing but that just adds to the fun.

Just did that last weekend, but when I popped open the housing with my fingernail, well there really is not enough room to fit a jack socket in there, with the headset that comes with the o2 orbit anyway, the mic is right in the way. I had a really slim socket all ready to go which I'd pulled out of a tiny broken sony radio. So I had to just chop the end off a 3.5mm extension lead with a nice ready moulded on socket. It was a 5 min job and looks like it was made that way, everything still works.

Wired Ext USB Headset?

Hi folks,
I'm looking for a comfy headset (or two) for a TyTn II & Athena 100.
I love the remote here:
http://i.expansys.com/i/b/b150195.jpg
...but hate these type of ear pieces.
Is there anything similar with a headset or that will allow a PC (stereo) headset to be used?
Cheers!
..
ill think you'll find that headset allows you to use different headsets (3.5mm) however i just ordered the htc u110 adaptor ... check that out ?

HTC Desire - USB audio output possible

Hi Devs,
first of all, sorry for starting a new thread, but searched the forum and didn't find exactly that.
Like I've read, there is no audio over USB support built-in to our mighty Desire.
I tried a few different microUSB to 3.5mm jack adapters from ebay - even one declared as for HTC Desire. Checked the usb-pins-assignment also and it seems that HTC hasn't built in (or turned off) that function in opposite to some other manufacturers.
So will it be possible to write a rom or a kernel, that'll support that?
If it is possible, I would appreciate a few hints what I'll have to do, to get this thing working!
Thanks in advance!
Can I know why you need that? Is it for A/V out?

Its not possible to send analog audio signal over the usb since its a standard usb plug. Only the old htc phones with extUSB had audio, but its was a bigger plug with more pins.
On that note i dont get why you want to get audio from there, when theres a nice 3.5mm jack socket on the top of the phone.

Thanks for your quick answers!
Yes, since there are no music docks for desire I built my own and it has to be possible, other phones with microUSB have that function - why not ours?
I know the old extUSB plug from my magic, there it is no problem. But there must be a way to get this working! I think it is only a software and/or driver issue.
If you'll get a music dock you'll have to plugin the phone + jack everytime? ? ? Look on ebay there are a few universal docks over microUSB, but not working for the nearly best and most sold android phone on market?
Pls give me some hints if there is a way to do that - everything is possible!

Umm, well not really. Because who says that the USB port of your phone is connected the right way internally to actually SEND data over the cable/dock.
I have no idea on how to do it. Thats just what I think, but with Android, a LOT is possible

YEAH IT IS!
On Nexus one they built in extra pins for docking and audio over that works like a charm.
I'm having a few adapters microUSB to 3.5mm jack for Motorola,Samsung,Nokia...phones from ebay, but not one reaction from Desire
Maybe the adapter for Desire needs a Digital-to-analog converter to get analog audio out of the microUSB port.
But no technical details over that from HTC - does anyone know more about the microUSB connections on our Desire? Tried to get a technical manual for Desire, but no chance on google...
If there is no other solution, I'll have to disassemble my expensive Desire to get a view on connections and maybe some hints which IC is managing the microUSB.
Does any dev know what would be possible by modding a kernel or rom?
Thanks in advance!

im also looking for something like this, though i want digital-audio out. for example in my car, plug and play so i get spotify from my usb to my stereo and able to control spotify from my stereo. there is no problem for this if you use iphone, though id like to be able to do it on my htc.
any solution?
Ability to stream out the audio through USB would be something nice to have.
There's a guide online on how to splice a USB and 3.5mm cable to the Apple USB cord so that you can charge and play audio on ipod accessories, as long as you don't mind having USB and audio plugged in at the same time. http://www.erwanmace.com/2012/07/ipod-dock-android/

[Q] A Music Dock for Evo?

Is there a music dock for the Evo anywhere?
I'm NOT talkin about a car dock, or a charging/syncing dock or just external speakers that plug into the headphone port...
I mean a dock like the millions of them that are available for the iPhone that is an actual stereo where the phone docks into it and charges/plays music at the same time..
I have looked everywhere and cant find one.. seems like the only thing that the iPhone has that my Evo doesnt that I actually want
Any ideas?
Oh, and something that you "rigged" up that does the same thing might be interesting to see also..
You're not going to find anything made specifically for the EVO. The best bet is to find a universal one that has USB charging capabilities. I can't recall one off the top of my head but I'm sure they are out there.
Yeah, I really wasnt expecting to find an "EVO specific" one but I cant even find a universal one that's not a complete piece of crap that is so inconvenient to use that it's not worth it...
Am I the only one that wants one of these or what? There has to be a bir market for a really good universal one that non-iPhone users can buy... Maybe I'm missing something
YES, YES, a million times YES on someone making this!
I would buy it in a heartbeat!!!

I want one of these. I am actually in the process of making one out of wood. I am thinking of shaping it like a regular dock, and using a good acoustical wood. Got the idea from here.
I am thinking this would work great. Maybe take a charger and run it up so that you can plug it in, and use the acoustics of the wood to amplify the sound. Just a thought.
So there are no MicroUSB docks anywhere??
I figured someone would have made one
I've been thinking about one, and it would be cool
I guess even a dock with a USB port so one could connect the cable to it would be fine
sigh

Great idea, thanks man!
The problem is the HDMI out: there is no "dock" connector, just USB (which IS host capable, somewhere on that chip) and the HDMI connector.
HDMI encodes the audio into blank space of the video stream, so you need signal processing to seperate the two: that's too close to the DO NOT CROSS line for manufacturers. There aren't many products that do that (right now), and I don't know if there will be. However I found this one in my travels:
http://hinen.gmc.globalmarket.com/p...switcher-4-port-with-audio-output-165992.html
Is the only thing I can find that comes close to an audio extractor for HDMI. And it has an extra 3 inputs!
So you could get the HDMI dock, the HDMI adapter cable, this doodad, a receiver (or a digital audio to analog converter and THEN to a receiver), and then go out to your speakers. Of course that assumes the software/firmware on the EVO can just play audio out that end: because it is HDMI you would have to have a video signal of some kind going down the wire to activate the link. I suspect that last part would be the easiest part. Though, as developers would probably love something like this too.
Yet another case of DRM being a pain in the ass. in this case, we can thank Intel for being able and willing to sue companies into the ground for not following the HDMI rules.
One final note: if there is HDMI plugged in, all other audio stops (ie bluetooth, headphone jack and builtin speaker). I have not tested this, but this is what HTC said on their tech support forum when I asked.
*EDIT*
Just noticed it has stereo out, but the description is in some funny Engrish, so there is no telling if it is actually available.
*EDIT 2*
http://www.octavainc.com/HDMI switch 4port_toslink.htm
Appears to have been around for ~3 years, but almost $300 too!
*EDIT 3*
http://www.ambery.com/hdautorcasts.html
c/o
http://www.cepro.com/article/atlona_hdmi_13_audio_de_embedder_supports_lossless_audio/
Does not seem to be vaporware, and on the first link, is $128, which is a steal coming from the pro A/V market. Kinda high for us regular consumers, but for that market it's almost free.

Bluetooth audio car kits?

I bought the Tunelink adapter from Amazon for $90.
It isn't the cheapest, but for listening to music it works very well. I have an aux port in my truck, but using that with the Infuse car dock i was getting horrible engine noises (charging or not), the Tunelink adapter solved that for me, I think it sounds great...
It also has an FM transmitter built in if you don't have an aux port; but I didn't bother trying that.
Just keep in mind, this will only work for music, not phone calls. This is great for me, as my truck has BT that only works for calls, not streaming music.

Anyone know a unit that will automatically turn off and on with the car? IE leave it plugged into the charging port and it will automatically power on and connect to paired devices when you start your car (no need to push a button)
