Should i buy the tilt 2 or wait for WP7S/ at&t android phones - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

I wanted to buy the tilt 2/Rhodium but now since windows phone 7 is ditching basically every phone on the market and really the progress of android on the Rhodium isnt as far along as my Kaiser yet (which is understandable)and ive pretty much seen all there is to see with Winmo6.5.5 on my Fuze should i just wait until android is a little more funtional on the rhodium or wait until the At&t android devices come out later this year

Android is a very nice OS with a lot of functionality. Haven't used it beyond basic usage, but it seems very responsive. If you like the android look at this option:

It all depends on what you want out of your phone. For me personally, I really like a full keyboard plus a touch screen. From what I've seen, WP7 is just a touch screen and no keyboard. Also, the whole layout of everything does not look that enticing to me. But that's just my opinion, like I said, it's just whatever fits your needs.

I would personally wait to see atleast more detail on WP7S. MIX is this month, which will give a clearer picture for developers and thus what 3rd party applications and hubs are gonna be like. Also you should see more hardware prototypes, like the LG that did have a keyboard (so that shouldn't be a concern).
Then if you decide to get a Touch Pro 2/Tilt 2, the deals should be better. Or honestly you would probably prefer to move to an OS that will be supported in the future, regardless of it is Android or WP7S. There should be several WP7S devices to choose from in the Holidays. Atleast 2 (one with and one without keyboard) from HTC, and atleast one from LG, Samsung, and SonyEricsson.

I really like it up until I flip it to landscape. starts looking like this:

If I were in your position, I would personally wait for awhile. AT&T typically offers their standard HTC Windows Mobile smartphone with sliding keyboard for a year since its release, so you should have until around mid-October 2010 before they'll stop stocking it, and you can still buy it for awhile after then until they completely sell all their inventory. If you don't like the other Android devices on AT&T, you can still buy the Tilt2. If you buy the Tilt2 now, you'll still have to deal with Windows Mobile for awhile since porting takes a long time for a fully working build, and even longer for a native ROM. So unless you REALLY want a new Tilt2 right now, I'd wait and see if any superior options enter the market beforehand, since you have quite a while before you are stopped from buying the Tilt2.

There's ALWAYS going to be the 'next best thing' right around the corner.
Who knows, maybe WM7 gets delayed a year. Maybe by the time WM7 is out, they've already announced plans for 7.5 or 8.0 or whatever.
My suggestion is ... if you need a phone now, the TP2 is a GREAT option. If you dont need a phone, then wait until a better option comes along and reassess.

I've abandoned the other sense UI, I am now using the following, landscape mode works:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=604146
Make sure when you install to keep it on sense UI, i've tried clicking espresso and I got install errors. Haven't tried the Omnia setting on install yet either, I might give it a go later. All of the installs were done on clean SPB 3.5/Win 6.5.

If you install both of those there is a program which allows you to switch between all of them. Shell TF3d Titanium switcher:

they've got it working on another phone in one of the boards around here. can't remember which one, but i watched the short little vid clip that shows it booting up over the top of WM.
not sure how long till we see a version for our phones (this was a touch version) but it does appear as though it's boing to be possible to run on top of WM. which is good news... assuming it doesn't eat too much resource.
It was the Kaiser that they got it running on...
I played with it a bit on mine. Neat but needs a little work

We have quite a few brilliant code junkies on this board, I'm sure it will be running on a variety of devices soon enough. I for one would like to see a dual boot option when it does become viable, so we can have the best of both worlds...
Possibly installing android on the memory card and using haret as a launcher.

So far I haven't heard anything about WP7 that makes it sound like something I'd want to wait for... And I'm tired of missing the apps/features that have come to Android and other OS, and not WM.

Mine was pre-ordered. I got a text from T-Mobile 2 days ago letting me know to expect my G2 to arrive within 7 days.
After actually reading that Oct 16 launch article in the link above, the only thing I can figure is that the G2 will be officially released to all customers. New or existing customers. The T-Mobile guy told me on the phone that it would be arriving at my house around the 6th. So, I dunno.. It would not surprise me any if it didn't come out till November 16th. Nothing about the phone companies ever comes as a surprise. But, I am still having fun customizing my TP2 and messing around with the xandroid on the sd card.

Not sure about the comment about not wanting to give up the ability to customize (like you can on the TP2). There is lots of customization available on Android, on an OS that is vastly smoother, more stable, and has tons of support from app developers.
One of the few things stopping me from going to Android, is the lack of a ATT-compatible handset with a hardware keyboard. And I might be willing to overlook the keyboard requirement.

People with iPhones have the same description of the screen keyboard: "not that bad". The screen keyboard is never described as "good". "Not that bad" isn't good enough for me. A hardware keyboard is simply faster, more accurate, and therefore a superior input method. It does result in a slightly thicker form factor, but that's a trade-off that is more than worthwhile, IMO. Especially coming from the best hardware keyboard on a phone (the TP2), its pretty tough for me to make a switch to a screen keyboard.

ICS + SGSIIET4G = WANTt!!

After watching the presentation on ICS, I want ICS on this phone, more so in hopes that it will fix the issues we are having with "Android OS" which are causing extremely high CPU usage stats. The problem is, there is going to be a layer of TouchWiz on top of ICS, so here is to hoping our awesome developers can give us an awesome ROM(s), and we can get CM soon!
Plus the new voice input seems really good (only reason it messed up in the presentation in the beginning was because he started talking too early).
Not really interested in the Nexus Prime (Galaxy Nexus), but looking forward to how well our cameras operate with that new interface. I believe once we get ICS on our phones, ours will be a much better phone than the Nexus (other the instant updates on Nexus, of course).
AOSP would be nice. I wonder if ICS has rotational transition animation. Even though it seems like a useless feature when it comes to functionality. I want it!

Yeah, I don't think that manufacturers need to put a GUI over it anymore. I hope it comes totally stock android. That would also speed up the time it takes them to update the phone.

I know we have many different hardware configurations out there in the Android world and some people argue that's this fragmentation is the main reason we wait so long for updates. I believe the major reason is the many different skins or gui these manufacturers either plague or bless us with is causing our update woes.

Just bought an HTC One X. Mistake?

After I made the purchase, I started reading about a lot of bugs, so I have a few questions:
1. Do games run great on this device?
2. Are there home screen redraws (where you click home button to get out of an app and go to home screen, but it's blank for a couple seconds until the home screen slowly redraws itself)?
3. Is the external speaker loud?
4. Is there any lag/slowdown?
5. does it run on AT&T in the USA (hspa) just fine without screwing with any settings?
Also I noticed the menu button comes up in pretty much every app which takes away like 0.2" of the screen. Disappointing.

This is not a fault with the phone, g nexus takes up the same space with its soft buttons. The software needs to be changed, it's not a deal breaker IMO.
Have to assume OP has not yet received the phone.
1. Don't play games
2. Not that I have seen
3. Seems fine to me, better than my G Nexus
4. That is down to user perception, mine seems fine
5. Check the supported frequencies of the device and your carrier (sorry in the uk)
The majority of your concerns will be addressed by updates if they exit
Thanks
Barry
It's like anything. The 1st version of the new software is usually buggy. The first version of 4.0.1 on the gnex was not the best but now 4.0.4 is out it is a lot better. Games run really well though.
I also use nova launcher and the home screen is much faster.

My one was imported from Singapore, and came with pre-loaded APN settings that I could select for AT&T if I choose the reset to default option in the APN list. However, the APN that it came with was only the 'wap.cingular' APN that standard 3G devices use. It will work with any data plan for phones including the data plan for feature phones. If you want to get the fastest speeds, you will have to add a 'Phone' APN and make sure that your account is provisioned with an HSPA+ data plan.

Install a custom ROM or wait a day or two for the OTA and the bugs will all be sorted. With Android (Especially HTC devices with their huge developer community) it doesn't make sense to base your purchase on software issues.

A major software update is coming very, very soon.
Few things:
1. I always keep my phones stock, so no roms for me.
2. I would never buy a phone that has touchwiz on it.
3. Has a software update already been announced? When will it be available?
What if update to fix the issues will come after 2-3 months. Too long! it should have been less buggy if HTC didn't rushed it.
I'll give it a shot. If I don't like it, I'll send it right back.

No love for the LG

I love my LG G3 and the pictures it takes, but I would like a little bit more. So I rooted my phone and love the roms that it offers. I just think that every single rom out there is the same with just a different name. All of them are Lollipop. At first I did like Lollipop, but now I'm bored of it. I do install different themes to give it a different look but it still looks the same. All Lollipop roms looks the same and I use one that the Dev updates all the time, which is awesome that he updates and keeps us wanting more. But, I think of unrooting my phone and jumping over to either the new Samsung when it comes out or the new HTC One M9.
I know when the update comes to the LG it'll be just the same. I've seen videos of pretty much nothing new added or anything upgraded. I hope that the LG continues to grow. I'm on t-mobile so I don't have that "Theme" option on my phone so I can't change themes if my phone is un-rooted. We'll see in about a week when these new phones pop up. I will miss the camera on my phone but I didn't get a phone for the just the camera.

I bought a GS1 when it hit the shelves in 2010, paid cash for it. Stayed with Sammy as well - GS2, GN1, GS4 (still my daily driver) and my wife's Note 4. As with any phone, there's a lot to like... and stuff you don't. Recently, discovered you can't get past the bootloader on the Note 4 (Bell). My wife doesn't care, but that would drive me crazy.
Still, after playing with her's for a few months, I still prefer my G3 to a Note 4 or a GS5. It's the perfect balance between those 2, and really not much bigger than my GS4. And the screen is comparable to the Note 4's QHD display.

Yes I can relate to you. Never tried an LG phone but after having my G3 for months now I can honestly say it's the best phone I've ever had. With tweaksbox and a couple of other xposed mods this phone has proven worthy. Unless Sammy or any other manufacturer comes out with a game changer the G series is going to be my go to phone. Can't wait for the G4.
The G3 is great don't get me wrong. I'm just picky and wish it can do more. Majority of the LG apps are junk. I do give it to them the camera is really awesome. I think I just get bored fast with these phones. I like to give my phone a different look each time. I know rooting allows me more freedom. I'm a gadget fanatic and just wish for more features or the flexibility of theming the dialer and messaging apps without rooting. If the G4 would come out it'll be great to have those features.

I'm a gadget fanatic and just wish for more features or the flexibility of theming the dialer and messaging apps without rooting. If the G4 would come out it'll be great to have those features.

If you're the type that like customized everything why not get a 1+?

I don't know much about the 1+ but I'm hearing lots of good stuff on the new to come out GS6 I'm probably going to hold off until this phone comes out and then see reviews. I went back to stock on my phone and I do miss stock but I don't have that feature of "Themes" in my settings so I can't change the icons. I really don't like launchers, but I do on occasion use Themer.
