[Kernel] .29 Alpha for Cyanogenmod 5 Based ROMs 【aHero】 - For the Impatient - Hero, G2 Touch Android Development

[Kernel] .29 Alpha for Cyanogenmod 5 Based ROMs 【aHero】 - For the Impatient
Here's a quick and dirty kernel compile with bluetooth and SetCPU OC both working for this ROM (and any Cyanogenmod based Hero ROM really). Should not be overclocking on boot.
Uses koush anykernel format to make it compatible for any CM based ROM.
I don't plan to update this. I had no intentions of making a Hero kernel so I probably wont be updating this. It was kind of an accident. I don't even have a GSM Hero. Anyways flash and enjoy! Devs can take what I did on my .config and make it good. There's some weird stuff in it.
If this eats your phone please do not hunt me down.

I copied the netfilter options too. If someone can try to see if Wifi-tether works that would be awesome.
So apparently my kernel boots this aHero and fixes bluetooth. It's a .29 kernel based on the new source code.
Mind you that I might be missing some things. I took around 20 minutes comparing the existing .config and making one that is more similar to the Cyanogenmod .config by eyeballing differences and copying pasting code (yes really). I got really lazy toward the end because the .config was so damn long.
I at least enabled squashfs so the .sqf files decompress for sure now. Set localversion to cyanogenmod. You can see what I did to it in the download link as well, where I have a pastebin of what I did before I disabled perflock.
I also disabled a crap load of debug options that were enabled for some reason.

how do i use this on ahero ? just flash it over the rom ?

Is this applicable to VanillaEclair?

Just flash this zip over my aHero?

Dont work for me om cyanogen mod, runs so slow it freezes. Cant get in set cpu and look
Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk

going to test this now. I will update.

it sseems to freeze at boot (aHero 1.0 with JIT)

mine freeze at hero screen

Does it need a wipe and reflash first, or should it be ok to try over current CM ROM ( Vanillain 3.0 test version) ?

There specific patches for the villain roms, theres one for Vanillain 3. There is a thread with them on xda
I tired it on Vanillian but cant seem to get past the lockscreen

I downloaded toastcfh's kernel source, but I didn't have time to compile..
anyway thanks for compiling, and I'll test it and report back soon..

And me. Best wait I guess for a fix later.

Heh, awesome.
Be advised that this sometimes freezes randomly, that's the only bug I can see so far. Especially during going from and to sleep. That's the only issue that needs to be resolved. Apart from that, everything seems to work.

Stock O/C Kernel 1.7Ghz and CM/MIUI/GB O/C Kernel 1.8Ghz UPDATED 01/09 - Grankin01

First is an O/C kernel that I built from the HTC source. This kernel is stable and with the right profiles setup in setCPU has given me very good battery life. I'm giving coolbho3000 credit here as his post in the G2 forums is what helped me to do this. I am also acknowledging gr8gorilla who helped me several times through this process. Second is a kernel built from the latest CM kernel zource from zinx. It has proven to be very stable (after tweaking the voltages).
Now for the boring part ... If you choose to flash this you do it at your own risk. I am in no way, shape, or form responsible if you flash this and your phone turns into a paperweight. Once again, flash this at your own risk.
There, now that that is out of the way we can get on to the good stuff.
Make sure you choose the right kernel. The stock kernel will break your CM install if you flash it.

These kernels have no issue with video. If you are having trouble with youtube and such update your GB rom to one of the newest. There was a memory leak in the source for the rom itself that zinx has fixed. Thirty to Forty-Five minutes of straight youtube action and I had no problem at all.

I have packaged this into an update.zip format that you can flash through your custom recovery. Simply choose to install a zip from the sdcard and pick the update package to install it. It will install the wifi driver at the same time so you don't need to worry about that. Everything works with this kernel so far for me if you have any problems please post them and I'll see what I can do to fix them.
Remember that you hardware is not the same as your neighbor's so while he may be able to max the settings out and run stable your device may need to be set to a lower clock speed to run stable.
Source code for both kernels has been added to github. If you want to play around with them download source from here: https://github.com/grankin01
Happy Modding/Devving!
wow, thank you sir
I was just about to start testing kernels with Zinx's CM6 anyway. Looks like yours is first.

Not yet. It will work with the rom that you have installed right now though.
hey guys. im a noob to android. every other phone i have had has been winmo. i wanted to try this oc kernel because it seems easier to install than the gorilla one. however i ran into a problem when installing. i have a stock rom 2.2.1, perm rooted s=off, using clockwork recovery. i backed up my rom and flashed via rom manager. it then began to send me into a boot loop never getting past the first screen. just kept turning off and rebooting. soooooo i rebooted directly into clockwork and tried to do it from there and the same thing happened. so i restored my recovery and now everything is back to normal. can anyone point me in the right direction? i did notice that in clockwork it gave me two options to flash the kernel or to flash an update from the sd card. should i have flashed the update zip instead of the kernel or flash both.. sorry im a partial noob. i know how to use adb a lil and the emulator, this is the first thing i flashed on my phone and nearly had a heart attack from thinking i was bricked! any help is appreciated
Do you already have setCPU installed? Not everyone's phone will be able to reach the maximum speed without bootlooping or locking up. Just the nature of the beast. Try setting your speed down in setCPU (if you already have it installed) and turn set at boot off and then flashing and rebooting. Then you can test the speeds one by one to know what is working for you.
Edit: New kernel for CM and MIUI is nearly ready. 1.8Ghz with over 3200 on quadrant!!!

Only in the lower frequencies. The higher frequencies weren't stable running lower voltages.
Thanks OP. When you say the lower ranges, at which MHz did you not UV? Just curious. I am thinking of not OC'ing more than 1.4MHz and didnt know if I would get the UV benefit.

Bugs:
- Graphical Glitches - Dont try to fix it, aint as bad as anyone thinks... you can live with it ! - or try and flash a .35 kernel, but performance goes down... is it worth it ?
- Sense Customization settings closes without launching the customization app
INSTALL PROCEDURE
MAGLDR partition sizes - Use Last 24mb NAND - 5/330/10
Install the rom as normal with CWM
Reboot and wait for the rom to finish first boot and complete the HTC wizard, wait a couple of minutes at the launcherpro desktop, you may config wifi and some settings but DO NOT add any accounts to accounts and sync.
Reboot
Flash the Data2SD in CWM
Reboot
Install Superuser from the market
I had to strip "everything" I could to get this rom to boot with enough NAND data space to function before rebooting again to install data2sd. I had 22mb data space left on my first boot.

So your thinking this could be fixed in a .32 kernel if someone could figure out why the .35 kernel fixes it by finding the missing part ?
I am simply hoping soon Dorimanx might dev a .35 kernel with his performance modifications, I think he just needs time.
Just an update on this rom, the latest zram script by Dorimanx is clashing with this roms oom settings, I am going to work on tweaking it. I will post an updated zram script for this ROM once I am satisfied with the settings.

yes, that is what i want to say, I think that should has possible be fix. but if someday DM decide to coding .35 ... well, I thought we put it away temporary and try our best for cooking rom first, and if possible then we could try to fix and coding kernel together. because kernel builder not to many but have lot of chefs, so i thought maybe we should join to kernel part to find out the bugs.

Hi guys,
In an attempt to help further kernel development for the Kindle Fire, I'd like to share my stock defconfig. It's a bit different than the original otter_android_defconfig that g1011999 came up with.
I was never able to get a usable kernel. So I took some time and built up mine.
https://github.com/KFire-Android/kernel_omap/blob/stock/arch/arm/configs/otter_android_defconfig
This kernel builds using the preferred TI compiler used in all of their walk-thrus: CodeSourcery 2010-q1
Moving forward into CM9/ICS, some changes need to happen to the kernel over time. The migration kernel is found in a branch: "L27.13.1-ICS". The END result of this will be a kernel / source that fully support hw codecs for ICS.

The following ROM is built from the sources at GitHub under the KFire-Android org. Many of those files and configurations are the result of countless hours of development by JackpotClavin. I don't want there to be any confusion as to who put in a ton of time getting this to work.

Changelog:
- Screen flicker IS an issue right now. Digging into it
- Touchscreen "Slop" set to 16. This should help touches register on the touchscreen.
- Working Data usage stats (xt_qtaguid / xt_quota2 kernel modules)
- TUN, CIFS support
- USB mounting fixes
Thanks Hashcode, currently building a latest ICS version of it.
A little note for those who also want to compile: arm-eabi-4.4.3 and arm-eabi-4.4.0 did not work for me, they ended the compile without any errormessage in the middle of nowhere, arm-eabi-4.3.1 did the job. Took me some time to figure that out ...

If you want to follow a very good step by step guide for setting this up the same way TI (the CPU maker) intended, then follow this:
http://www.omappedia.com/wiki/PandaBoard_L27.12.1-P2_Release_Notes#Setting_up_build_environment
Obviously, that's for PandaBoard, but the Toolchain source and setup are very good.
It goes into deep sleep for me and turning off the stay awake option in settings, developer options, the screen goes off like its supposed to.

Hi guys,
In an attempt to help further kernel development for the Kindle Fire, I'd like to share my stock defconfig. It's a bit different than the original otter_android_defconfig that g1011999 came up with.
I was never able to get a usable kernel. So I took some time nd built up mine.
https://github.com/KFire-Android/kernel_omap/blob/stock/arch/arm/configs/otter2_android_defconfig
This kernel builds using the preferred TI compiler used in all of their walk-thrus: CodeSourcery 2010-q1
Tonight, I'll go back to both of my in-progress kernels and do some testing to see if they'll boot.
EDIT:
Current issues being looked at with this kernel:
- Power off doesn't really power all the way down. It goes to a black screen, but requires long press to turn off.
- Deep sleep isn't happening. The backlight is on a tad while the screen should be off.
But this config is still MUCH better than trying the original.

So does this boot cm7 or anything? My kernel builds boot stock kindle but not cm7
Its something to do with netd/dnsproxyd. Just finding a fix that works is a PITA common issue, but then people dont say how they fixed it..
Right now ive only tested this with CM9

Any chance you're looking into enabling more than 2 touch points in this kernel?

I'm running nind/sitic's cm9-02-04 build with this kernel baked in. I, too, have Stay Awake disabled in Developer Options, and my Kindle is going into deep sleep. I am experiencing the power down issue, though.
It's something I'm absolutely willing to live with for the time being. This is good stuff. Thanks Hashcode!

Well reason I asked was because my kernel wont boot cm7 or cm9. It boots the stock kindle fire os okay. Im getting netd/dnsproxyd errors in the kernel when I try booting cm7.

Right now the difference between this kernel and stock is:
- About 8 ip6 netfilter modules were added
And that's about it.

Are you using the stock ramdisk or the modified ramdisk for cm? I know there must be a difference, as intersectRaven puts out several different variations of his kernel in boot.img form, but I haven't gotten around to diffing them yet

ill look into insectraven's cm kernel thanks!
Edit: That worked! Thanks!
he starts the dnsproxyd differently than what I've seen. But it works!
So I noticed that /mnt/ is mounted read-only which causes issues with apps installing to the sdcard and probably the issue people are having with mounting the sdcard to the computer. Some apps insist on installing to the sdcard (I hate that)
Edit: or do I have this all wrong? Lol I'm no dev remounting it r/w gets the job done.
Is there any websites or anything that you guys would recommend to learn about the Linux kernel and development of it?
Tonight, I went back through and cleaned up my config some more. Removed extra power controls, usb mtp settings and omap mmc host controller (for sd card slot boards).
From my tests, everything deep sleeps correctly and the power off issue is fixed.

Here's an updated boot.img for nind's 2/5 build:
[ UPDATED OP W/ FLASH.ZIP FILE ]

[ROM]CyanogenMod 10 Unofficial[4.1.1][Team Legacy]

Code:
This is still alpha version you are flashing this on your own responsibility
Dont blame me if your phone turns into a termonuclear bomb and explode
into a big mushroomcloud that destroys the whole town
Dont blame me if you turn into hulk by using this ROM.
Dont blame me if your alarm app fails and you get fired or you miss
your wedding
You chose to make these modifications, nobody made you do it.
I will update this ROM every 4 to 7 days from Shelnutt2's nightlys. If there is a major fix in a nightly then i will not wait 4 days i'll update emediatly. If you find a bug that you know how to fix then feel free to write here or if you have time make a patch, this is a big project to be maintained by 2 guys. If there is a dev here on Hero GSM forums that is willing to help then help
Features:
---JELLYBEAN
---Google Now
---Ported from Shelnutt2's HeroC nightly's
---Using Las Venturas 1.2 kernel by riemer
Problems:
---Slow
---Camera
---Audio besides speaker, very close to full fix.
---Bluetooth (almost fixed)
---Hardware Acceleration (not likely)
How to install:
---Download the rom and put it on your SD card
---Reboot to clockworkmod
---Wipe data
---Go to advanced tab/Wipe dalvik cache
---Flash the ROM
---Reboot and say hello to your new ROM
---Be patient, first boot takes about 10-15 minutes
Tips:
1. ROM is default OC'd to 633 MHz to increase speed, if you have any issues with that speed (graphical glitches or something) reduce it.
2. Go to developer options and enable force GPU rendering
3. If you are a developer go to developer options, root access and enable root to ADB and apps
4. Go to performance settings > memory managment > zRam > 18 or 26%
5. Go to performance settings > Processor > CPU governor > ONDEMAND or PERFORMANCE
6. Go to performance settings > memory managment > allow purging of assets
7. To bypass welcome screen tap all the corners in a clockwise motion, starting with the top-left
8. Install LauncherPro it will give you a bit more speed but it will be ugiler. You pick will you install it or no

Thank you for porting this. You're not only helping The Hero community, but also the entire Htc Magic Section.
If you have time, could you send me a PM with the files you have to change when you port from CDMA to GSM. I tried but it didn't worked when I just changed kernels.
Thanks in advance
Keep up the good work!
Installed and booted. But Wifi doesn't seem to work?
You have to fill in your gmail-credentials (at first boot) but it can't verify since wifi isn't working. Does this mean you can only boot CM10 when you have got 3G?

[ROM][ICS][STOCK] sediROM - non-dev discussion thread

.
.
.
sediROM - or why I created a new ROM based on the good old ("ancient") ICS
.
.
.
Long story short. The following list are my requirements to a custom ROM:
I need my phone everyday so I need to resist that it is working everyday (means rock stable).
I do NOT need the latest available Android version.
I WANT to have the other components (like Kernel etc) up to date.
I REALLY REALLY need headset profiles for my bluetooth devices (Jabra, Nokia and Plantronics)
I need root access, of course.
I want to get the best battery life possible.
GB is too old for me.
Stock ROM is "too stock" for me.
I have tried all available captivate ROMs starting from ICS over Jelly Bean to KitKat.
Android < v4.x are too old for my requirements. Several features missing and well it even LOOKS old..
Android >= v4.1 are working well with the Glide but there is 1 main killer function which is completely broken since Android 4.1: Bluetooth Headset Profiles
(The Bluetooth stack was completely re-developed in 4.1)
The version which is the best compromise of beeing fresh enough - but working like a charm is Android v4.0.4 (ICS)
The problem is.. there is no ICS based ROM out there which completely fullfill ALL my requirements.
So I thought it is time for me to create my own daily-use feature-complete and rock stable ROM for the Samsung Captivate Glide / SGH - I927..
IMO the best working and best battery saving ROM for the Glide is PACMAN ROM (used pac_i927-milestone.1.RC1.4.zip)!
The problem: the earliest version of it is based on Android 4.1 which is a No-Go for me because of Bluetooth HSP.
--> I recommend the mentioned version of PACman as your daily driver if you do NOT need BT HSP. I had it running several weeks without any problems but really great battery saving.
.. well that said I couldn't fork PACman ..
So I've downgraded to all available ICS based ROM again (which was VERY painful because of broken links to the apps because of different mount point names etc).
I have tried those all again (IcePOP, Cranium, Stock, DMans ICS, etc.) but no was "as good as" LiteROM (IMHO) - which I used several weeks before.
.. so +1 for forking LiteROM ...
The problem with LiteROM is that there are still issues and no further development is done on it.
Some of the major LiteROM issues for me (those are also the reasons why I first tried newer Android versions):
It looses the paired devices after a reboot ! (but that sounded to me like it can be fixed somehow)
The lags/waits when pressing the power button to switch the display on
Battery life is not the best
not the latest Kernel
many little things in the installer like it re-installs everything when only switching to another modem etc.
Nevertheless LiteROM is still the best base I can get (because it fits to my requirements best and is rock stable) and therefore I started in May 2014 the build of sediROM which is a fork of LiteROM v0.9.
UPDATE:
sediROM is officially available and have tons of fixes and enhancements inside. Check it out in the DEV thread:

what kernel do you use? Stock or litekernel?
Replacing kernel is very easy.
No documentation for BT sound, I dont think anybody would fix it. I've tried to find dev to find alsa HAL ( that is for voip sound fix), and no luck, while fixing alsa much more easier then fix BT sound.
Somebody tried to port cm10, it has many issue, you can find that topic in dev forum.
The idea for sediROM is to have a very well tested setup of default settings (like which kernel, etc.) but the free choice to modify it later whenever you like it.

Oh no I said Bluetooth is generally working fine in Android v4.0 and therefore in sediROM / LiteROM but not in other ROMs which are based on Android 4.1 or higher
--> The only thing which are not perfect in v4.0 (or especially in LiteROM) is that Bluetooth Pairing are lost after rebooting.
--> ... and that is fixed in sediROM

as said I try to solve all the problems I saw in my case and that's what I fixed. If that fixes all yours.. - I don't know
The thing which sounds interesting to me is that you talk about automatic toggles and force closes.
I never seen automatic toggles and force closes but it may be because I use another Kernel. Well we will see when you have tried it .
I cannot promise it is bug free (in this early state of this ROM there is at least 1 known bug - to be honest) but I may can help to fix things..
Rest and details coming soon...
I'd definitely be interested in testing your ROM. Your idea is more or less what I wanted for my i927. Hope to be able to try it soon.

Well that point is not totally fixed yet. I'm currently using Litekernel 1.2.2 in the not-overclocked version but also played around with the others - even Stock of course. That said I cannot say that I've found a perfect kernel (grakernel may the one but it is for JB and higher only ) and still testing others.
So the short answer is that there are not such differences between them when it comes to battery drain (see my post in the dev because that's one of the open points yet)
... and only to ensure that we have all the same understanding: sediROM is my experiment to go to / to get / to become the perfect stable but actual ROM for the Glide. It is "on it's way" you now
For becoming that I need feedback of course and I believe there will be many things I may not seen/use like you do so don't expect something "perfect"

You are really miss the point.
4.0 means android version not kernel version.
The litekernel package includes a boot image, that boot.img include kernel, ramdisk.
Ramdisk is the root on your android. Litekernel has some ramdisk modification too ( https://github.com/thegreatergood/LiteKernel---Glide/tree/master/Build4.2/ramdisk/sbin/ext https://github.com/thegreatergood/L...ster/Build4.2/ramdisk/sbin/LiteKernel_Manager )
Grakernel should work with any rom, it doesnt change ramdisk, just replace kernel and install modules to /system/lib/modules. I think modules in you rom is in /lib/modules on ramdisk, so you need to change my install script to modify ramdisk.

I've tried that already but without success (booting but display keeps black with some green pixels ..)
As I can see in your link the Litekernel mods are note relevant for functioning or am I wrong? They seem to do some power saving stuff nothing else?

Litekernel has 2 version string, one from the build version and one from android version. Litekernel has some power save codes, it cases that deep sleep issue IMHO.
