[Q] Why Wont School e/gmail sync? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been trying to sync my school e mail, powered by g mail for quite some time, since I got the phone 2 months ago, actually. At first I (and hope i still am) thought i was simply doing something wrong.
Now, the e mail is "powered by Google" not actually a Google address, but it looks identical to my normal e mail which is indeed through Google.
It is as follows:
[email protected]
I tried troubleshooting it via Settings>Forwarding and POP/IMAP on the g mail page on my PC.
I turned ON both POP Download and IMAP Access, then i realized there is no support for Android via POP (according to their list of supported devices), so progressed to the IMAP settings, where, indeed, Android is supported here.
I set everything up in my phone according to their instructions here. At any rate, I cannot seem to get it to work, i get an error that reads "Authentification failed. Please verify your username/passord." It gets hung up right after I type all this jargon in
" Incoming settings
IMAP server: imap.gmail.com
Port: 993
Security type: SSL (always)"
I have verified it countless times... am I unable to get this set up because it is an odd e mail address?
Note, If i change the IMAP server to imap.oaklandcc.edu it says it cannot verify, but it does not say the password/username is erroneous

I just set my school email to forward to gmail and I just have my phone setup with my gmail account. I have Comcast, AOL, and school emails and I have all of them setup to forward to gmail, makes it easier having them all sent there and then to my phone.

this is true, but i wanted to see if there was a real fix rather than a work around.

Make sure you use the full address, not @gmail.com, i.e. toughguy @butterfliesandkisses.edu.
Also, my school uses google apps and I think I had to set up my school gmail account in some way to access it from a standard gmail login prompt. Usually there is a walkthrough on your school website.

Imap not pop.
Use tls and make sure you have the correct password and port mine is 587

I use the included exchange with my school email and it works just fine. Check with your school IT.

Desire HTC mail POP/IMAP manual setup not working?

Hi all,
I got my Desire yesterday. It is a gorgeous device, but has one fatal flaw. The POP/IMAP manual e-mail setup in HTC mail is not working.
Gmail or Hotmail work fine - there is no need for a manual setup, the phone does it for you.
But Yahoo, or any other custom mail does not work. When setting up the incoming and outgoing mail server, the phone gets stuck at the incoming mail server setting and doesn't advance to the outgoing server setting as it should.
After you set up the incoming mail server you hit next and the phone checks online and a popup says "Verifying account settings". After this is done, I believe it should advance to outgoing server settings, but it doesn't and gets stuck at the incoming server settings screen...
This is a very fatal mistake and problem - one of the main functions of a smartphone not working...
Can you guys see if it works for you - maybe its only my unit that is faulty?

I got it set it up on my University IMAP fine, I had this issue but just had to change the security type to TSL.
Unfortunately that doesn't work for me...
It is very weird, as the same settings worked with K-9 mail app without any issues...
I got the same issue so I use K-9 Mail instead (which I prefer since it seems to push my emails faster)
I can't get it to sign in to gmail. I have a @googlemail account, and it just fails to verify account information every time. All other mail accounts, Hotmail and proper POP3, work fine.
That's cause you use the Gmail app for Googlemail, not the normal mail app

I prefer to use the HTC mail widget. Anyway, I got the thing going now, by connecting via imap instead.
I'm in touch with HTC customer service and we're trying to figure out what is wrong. I'll set up a test account for them so that they can test it and see why the e-mail is not being set-up. Will update later...
i set up gmail as an exchange server.. Only done it half hour ago but it should be push now
I'm also having this same issue. (Trying to use SSL.)
Anyone manage to made Yahoo Mail wotking on IMAP? I have an YahooPlus account and I can connect using a WM device, but no chance with Desire [using the same settings as in WN device]. On Desire, it stuck on first step - setting of incoming IMAP mail server, saying each time "wrong username/pw"....

Has anyone sorted this out ? I've having the same issue with the imap setup on my desire. Very frustrating after shelling out for this thing.
Cheers
Have you tried using the stock Android mail app which can be found here:
http://rhedgehog.com/apk/email.apk
I prefer this to the HTC Sense mail app and its much more flexible/configurable during the set-up phase, I had problems with my Uni account swapped to this and no problems since then using IMAP, POP and SMTP
I also have difficulties getting IMAP+SSL to work with the HTC mail application.
I suspect it has something to do with the certificate. The server I'm trying to connect to doesn't have a verified certificate, and you don't get prompted to accept the certificate, as you do if you use the K-9 mail app.

I had same kind of problems with Hero after upgrading to android 2.1.
Problem seems to be related to setup procedure. It is not able to prompt certificate acceptance dialog. But if you setup account with address that is not existing or where is not imaps service running it will say that it can't verify account but you are able to continue. After creating account launch mail application, go to settings and put real server name. At this point it will prompt certificate acceptance dialog and after that it is working.
I of course had the same trouble on my Aria but managed to get it working by following these instructions:
first open mail.
enter manual setup.
INCOMING:
as for settings:
protocol: Imap
Email: [email protected]
user name: youraccount
password: your password
IMAP server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
security type: none
server port:143
OUTGOING:
login required is checked
user name: youraccount
password: your password
SMTP server: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
security type: none
server port: 587
NOTE: if it still wont let you set up incoming server, try first entering in a non-existent server. such as imap.mail.yahoo.commm or something. it will give you an error message but hit continue. NOT OK! from there set up outgoing correctly.
then exit.
then launch mail app and select that account. click menu-more-settings-account settings and enter the correct server address.
hopefully this works for you guys as it did for me.
--Edit--
forgot to add, if possible, make sure wifi is off.
also, I have discovered that htc mail wont log in unless you are SIGNED OUT of your yahoo account everywhere else. i had my laptop automatically loading yahoo's web pasge and i guess it was messing it up. so sign out of yahoo mail before closing your browser.
hope this helps.
sent my yahoo and my talktalk account up on my phone..fine!
HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had to do this on my WiFi as it would not connect over 3G...

Gmail Exchange ActiveSync - Same as IMAP?

After trying various email options with my Desire, using Exchange ActiveSync protocol between Gmail and the standard mail app seems the best of several poor options. It isn't working quite as I expected though. It seems to be similar to IMAP in the way it displays the correct emails in various folders as a copy of what's in gmail on the web. However, it only copies folder contents that I've changed by other means (PC or webmail). If I move, create or delete emails using the mail app, that isn't then reflected in my account in the web.
Is this just the way it is supposed to be or should it work the same as IMAP, and if so, why isn't it? Any suggestions appreciated.

I use exchange with the HTC Mail application with my Google account as well. When I move or delete messages, they get deleted on gmail.com in 2-3 seconds.
Maybe something is wrong with your configuration, you sure you have it on push? Mail app -> Settings -> Send/Receive -> Push

Thanks for replying. I'm glad it works ok for you, as it gives me some hope.
Yes I do have it set to push. I also have the domain set to Google and my username set as my email address, and SSL is on.
Are you in the UK? I am, and my email address is therefore googlemail rather than gmail, so I'm wondering if my login details should be also. I'll give that a go now and see if it makes any difference.
[Edit] I've tried changing the domain of my username to gmail instead of googlemail, but it wouldn't create the account. So I'm stuck with what else to try.
Well somehow it now works fine. The only difference is that my email address (not my username) now has the gmail domain and not googlemail. I had to re-create the account to change the settings, so either there was something wrong that resolved itself when I did that, or the difference in the email address makes a difference.
Hopefully that may help someone else.
Well now it isn't working again. Is nobody else having problems with their Desire and Google Exchange?
Here are my settings, and as I said works perfectly on my unbranded desire.
Email address: *******@gmail.com
Server address: m.google.com
Domain: google.com
username: *******gmail.com
CHECKED - This server requires SSL
In my account sync settings I'm syncing MAIL + Calendar.
Just for the record, I'm not using a task killer, which could possibly interfere?

It gave me an error when I tried to set my username to @gmail - Probably because I'm in the UK where Googlemail is used rather than gmail. Although if you wrote to me using @gmail, I'd still get it. So it's all a bit confusing. Besides, it did all work yesterday. I don't have the domain set the same as you, I just have "google" as I read elsewhere that was correct, even though that alone isn't actually a domain.
I wish I could edit these settings without deleting then re-creating the account, but there doesn't seem to be a way to. I'll do that again though to match your settings, if it lets me.
I'm not using a task killer by the way.
Tried using my Googlemaill account and says it can't do it - bit annoying but I'm happy with the gmail app tbh, just thought I'd try it out!

If you use @gmail as your username, it'll probably 'half' work. Mine is back up but it still isn't working properly. I'm not sure if it's better than using the Google mail app or not now, as I've gone between that and the mail app and K-9 so many times now, I forget what was wrong with each one. LOL. I think one of the major issues with the Gmail app is lack of copy/paste.
I rarely send email, I just have it to receive and then use my PC to get any attachments if needed...I'll stick with it for now!
I've found something similar. If I delete an e-mail on Webmail or IMAP (using Windows Live Mail) it doesn't disappear on the HTC Mail App (using Gmail Exchange ActiveSync). I have to delete it manually again. I've started a thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=676890
Which is odd as both the native Gmail App and IMAP (using the same HTC Mail App) do.

You can, just go to "More" and then "Settings" in the HTC Mail App or click on Exchange in "Accounts and Sync". You can change it all there, except for the domain (oddly that seems to be only available when you first create the account). Which incidentally, Google say you should leave it blank:
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299
This is the Windows Mobile instructions but Google intend you use this feature primarily on Windows Mobile handhelds.

Help w/ Exchange email...

I can't get my exchange setup and am really wanting to find a way to at least get (don't need to respond even... just view).

I've also tried setting up a rule in outlook to forward all incoming mail to a gmail account and that's not working either.
Are there any other options I have here? Corporate won't even talk to me (I tried) because they support ONLY phones they provide and they didn't provide this one (they're blackberry fanboys).
I used to have a blackberry (not one they provided) and could get email fine on it through BIS. Is there anything like BIS for phones other than BB? Something where you set up an exchange account online with the service and they then forward the mail to your phone or something?
I was able to setup my Exchange support no sweat. This is the first android device available in the US that can handle the harsh security policies set forth by my company. Works great.
You need to make sure you have the following info:
Account name
Password
Domain
Email Address
Server <this may be your issue>
whether or not they support SSL
The server is most likely not "yourcompany.com". For example my company uses "webmail.yourcompany.com". Secondly, your account name should be the same as your email address with the "@yourcompany.com" part. Its possible for it to be different. You should be able to get the domain name from your corporate PC/Laptop. aside from that, just try with the SSL option. If that fails try it again without.

BIS is different than Exchange, it connects to Exchange but does it's own thing with email, calendar, etc..
If you have never connected to your Exchange server using ActiveSync, it would need to be configured on the Exchange server.
The forwarding is also an Exchange server side configuration that the "fanboys" would need to setup.
I know you can have gmail check email on an external account, did you try configuring that?
okay... so if you don't mine i'll post the info you're saying i need with what i think the information is based on what i'm pulling from my outlook on my work computer. i'll change the info though to keep things secure. this is what i'm asked for when i try to create the account and what i'm entering:
email address: firstname.lastnameATcompanyDOTcom
server address: two options here and i've tried both. the first is listed as the microsoft exchange server on the first window that comes up when i select the account: letters-letter22.ab.lettersDOTnet the second is listed under more settings > connection > exchange proxy settings: ab.lettersDOTcom
domain name: i'm not sure of this one but figured it was one of two things. the first would be what i type in before my username when logging in: ab-letters (so when i log in i type (ab-letters\username). the second would be the url for the OWA option which is: companymailDOTcom
username: again, i've tried two options one is just my username and the other is my full login as needed when logging into outlook or OWA (ab-letters\username).
password: password
and i've tried with both the ssl box checked and not checked.
that said, what am i missing or entering wrong? thanks for the help!

i tried the gmail option. said the server didn't allow for pop access.
use the address you use to access webmail. usually it's
owa.company.com
webmail.company.com
mail.company.com
if they don't allow MS ActiveSync I don't know what you can do.
if POP or IMAP is not an option, and the forward is not working (most companies don't allow that as a data leakage prevention) there is little to nothing you can do.
just weird they don't allow ActiveSync. you would read emails out of the office and become more efficient. very bad business policy.
when i log into OWA... the address is:
h t t p s :// w w w .companymail.com/OWA/
(sorry for the spacing... won't let me post urls)
will that not work?

Your Email:firstname.lastnameATcompanyDOTcom
Your Server: companymailDOTcom <-- most likely your OWA server
Yoru Domain: ab-letters <--- from ab-letters\username
Accountname: username <-- from username
password: password
That should be enough. Of coarse try the SSL option both ways.
Here.. When we deployed our exchange server this is how we setup the server.
The main 2 things you need to know is email server and active directory domain. For this example ill use:
Email Server: mail.company.com
Domain: company.com
So..
Email: [email protected]
Server: mail.company.com
Domain: company.com (in some cases, it can be left blank)
Username: myname
Password: pass
Depending on how things are configure, sometimes you may need to use company\myname as the username, but most times not.
Also, as I mentioned before.. It really depends on how things are setup. If the server admins don't allow activesync, your out of luck. Also, things like hub transport servers in the mix can effect how email is accessed as well. If your admins can't give you the info you need for this... Um, perhaps they need to find other work.

By domain, it looking for your PDC (Primary Domain Controller). Not your companies URL domain unless you somehow named your internal PDC the same thing.
This would be the part that he types just before his username during his authentication sessions.
Let us know how you fair.
tried every suggestion offered here. sadly, no dice. i get the same security warning i mentioned in my first email. given that my previous BB was NOT issues by corporate yet i was able to retrieve work email fine (through BIS of course), i can only assume that they've somehow managed to set up the system so that it doesn't work with anything other than BIS or BES.
looking for any other possible solutions/alternatives. as i mentioned before, the whole forwarding thing didn't work so unless there's another way, gmail isn't even an option. any thoughts?
All out of ideas for getting email and events pushed to your phone. You can use the HTC Sync App and do it at the desktop. Also the OWA client works great in the web browser.
Lastly, you can escalate internally, but I'd recommend writing up a small business case to demonstrate the benefits before you do so. They did that in my company and that got use away from having to use Good Link.
If you can get your exchange administrator to agree to allow Activesync connections for retrieving mail, you could use an app like Nitrodesk's Touchdown v5 (for 2.0 and above).
Been using it on my Droid and it's stable and reliable if a bit choppy when swapping inbox folders.
Hope that helps.

ya. i tried that one too just in case to i knew for certain it was on their end and not something with the phone. nice program.
sadly... no help. there's no way i'm going to convince them to do anything different than what they're doing now. when i say i work for a corporation, i mean i work for a CORPORATION. LOL. it's frikin huge with tons of employees, all over the world. that makes me a tiny little bug. LOL. when i made my call to IT they wouldn't even talk to me about anything email-cellphone related since i'm not high enough to even be considered for a corporate issued BB. LOL.
i do have one more chance. i can't remember what options are available in BIS, but my wife is going to take over my storm1 now that i have the new incredible. we're going in today to make the swap. my hope is that i can set my work email up in BIS as i did before but then auto forward it to a gmail account from within BIS. will be nice if i'm able to do this though it's still stupid that they don't let their frontline workers have access from their personal cellphones.
well, i made a bit of progress today. i still haven't connected yet, but after adding my account to BIS i was able to view the email server it uses to connect to the exchange server which is different from the one i was using before.
that said, i'm not getting that security msg i was getting before. now, though, i keep getting a message saying i can't be authenticated. i've tried lots of different options for the username to see if i could get in with no luck. any thoughts? i feel like i'm closer... but still so far away. thanks for the help!

Personally, I like the one built in to incredible more than the touch down app. I can see it all using the HTC widgets in Sense. Its very nice.
found a work around i thought i'd share. it's not great by any means, but it lets me view work email on my phone.
i setup a seperate gmail account just for work. then in outlook on my work computer i added the gmail account as an imap. then i created a rule to copy all incoming mail to the gmail inbox folder in outlook. this then syncs (obviously) with the gmail account and i pull the gmail to the phone through the native gmail app. it requires me leaving my computer at work on 24/7 but it's the only solution i could come up with for the time being.
Can anyone confirm if the incredible deals with the issues raised in this post ? code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4475 e.g. remote wipe/Simple Pin request etc?
Thanks.

[Q] Hotmail

Hey guys,
Anyone knows how to sync hotmail with the DHD email app? cuz when i delete mails from the DHD app, it doesn't touch the mail on Hotmail.
Thanks alot.
When you set up account use the following settings:
Type: Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
Username: [email protected]
Password: yourpassword
Server: m.hotmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
That will sync fully with Hotmail including contacts/calandar (optional).
sorry but i think i did something wrong cause it din work. after setting up, i tried to delete a message from the mail app. however it did not delete from hotmail. after i delete via the mail app, i get a new email notification about the email i just deleted. sorry for the trouble but can i get more specific instructions? and how to delete the old account?
Thanks in advance.
Hi, I've just given this a try and I can get my hotmail account up, however a couple of things don't seem to be working correctly or differently from the pop settings I previously used for Hotmail:
1) Every time I open my email the screen is blank, it then populates the emails, it does this every time I go back in, it appears like it's re-downloading them, but I'm not 100% sure, when using the pop settings you enter email and the previously sync'd emails are still there.
2) the account keeps re-syncing even though I have the 15 minute option set up rather than the push email (I'll try this option later). Every time it re-syncs it blanks the inbox and re-populates it.
3) once re-populated I can read and delete emails, however after a few seconds (maybe a minute) it re-syncs and all emails are unread, and any deleted emails re-appear.
the settings i'm using are:
Microsoft exchange activesync,
email address: [email protected]
Server address: m.hotmail.com
Username: [email protected] <-- this defaulted to just X, I had to enter the @hotmail.com for it to work
Password, and left a tick in the "this server requires an encrypted SSL connection" box.
There was a box for Domain, but I left this blank.
I'll give push email a try and write again once I have.
I've just tried the push option, and it works a treat!
None of that re-syncing, and my inbox isn't blank / require re-downloading every time I go into my mail.
Deleting emails on my phone now deletes them from my hotmail inbox as well!
Thanks for finding the settings!

Push is the same as putting it on manual in the update schedule right? Trying to do the same on my live account as the i just noticed that new e-mails that i have read via my laptop are being sent to my phone as unread.

I've just tried the push option, and it works a treat!
None of that re-syncing, and my inbox isn't blank / require re-downloading every time I go into my mail.
Deleting emails on my phone now deletes them from my hotmail inbox as well!
Thanks for finding the settings!
Hope this works as well for other people.

[Q] K-9 Mail and GoDaddy IMAP Servers

I know this probably applies to a very narrow audience to begin with, but is anyone else having issues getting emails pushed to their phone/K9 Mail from GoDaddy hosted imap accounts? I've used K9 for my work email account for over a year now and never had any issues, emails would get pushed to my phone almost immediately after being received on our GoDaddy hosted imap account. However, about a week or so ago, I noticed that I would get Outlook desktop notifications well before I would get the same email pushed to my phone. After observing this behavior for the past week and testing a few things out, I've narrowed it down to either the way K9 Mail interacts with GoDaddy's mail servers, or GoDaddy's mail servers themselves.
On my phone, I set up two imap accounts in K9, one a gmail imap account and the other my work imap account (hosted by GoDaddy). I sent a single email addressed to both the gmail account and the work account and every single time I did this test, the email would be pushed to the gmail account almost immediately, whereas it would take at least 15 minutes for the same email to be pushed to my work account. This happens on both wifi and 3G/4G, which rules out network configurations as being the root cause of the problem.
As much as I would like a solution to this problem, I'm more curious as to whether anyone else has noticed this problem, and if so, they can perform the same test described above to see if they get the same result.

I had the same problem and had to upgrade my app. Made by the same people who made k9, there's an app called kaiten. That worked like a champ. Hope that helps! I had to switch for my email coming from my graphic design business.
Thanks for the reply. I've tried out several apps that include push support, including Kaiten, with the same results. The problem is either with K9 and the way it works with GoDaddy's email servers, or GoDaddy itself. I'm sure there's 0 chance of finding out which one since both can just blame it on the other.
Solution
Just wanted to follow up and not leave this thread hanging in case someone else runs into this issue, but the problem has been pinpointed and resolved. It turns out that when when you set the incoming server to imap.secureserver.net for GoDaddy-hosted email accounts, there are a total of four physical mail servers available and you are randomly assigned to one of them for access when you establish your imap connection. Two of the servers support imap idle ("push" email) and two do not, which is why sometimes push email works and other times it does not. It depends one which server you end up at when establishing the connection. To remedy this problem, instead of setting the incoming server to imap.secureserver.net, which will land you at one of the four GoDaddy mail servers, enter one of the two mail server IPs that DO support imap idle: 72.167.82.19 and 97.74.135.193
One thing to keep in mind is that on the off chance that the IPs for GoDaddy email servers change, you will obviously not be able to establish a connection and will need to reconfigure your email settings with the correct server address.
Full credit to Ashley Willis for finding the root cause and providing the solution, and Bernhard Redl for troubleshooting the issue as well, both of whom are devs for the K9 mail app.

Thank you for this as i have been searching high and low for a solution
so my company is hosting on godaddy and i got an email account with them i need for business, can you confirm this is still working? I will make the changes in my settings now and check to see if it works, what are your other settings?
I dont want to set my phone to check at set intervals every 1 minute is too much but what i need (ie push) but even every 15 minutes is too burdensome.
Would you mine running me through the settings for your phone?
btw im using the full paid version of aqua mail just recently and if there is a better app i can just refund this one and get another that will work. thanks
---UPDATE---
I tried editing my settings the first IP 72.167.82.19 would not take saying something about an incoming server error, the second one (97.74.135.193) did work but I am not receiving my emails until the 15 minute interval, Has anyone found a solution to this yet? or switching email providers is only way?
I've been using the 97.74.135.193 address for a nice long while now so I can't comment on whether or not the 72.167.82.19 is working still. It's possible GoDaddy has changed that mail server's address. After having used this "solution" for almost a year now, I can say that it works most of the time as far as pushing emails immediately to my phone as soon as they hit the mail server. What I've noticed is that when I'm on 3G, it will work as it should all the time, but sometimes when I get back to work and connect to the office wifi, my emails will only arrive at the set polling intervals.
My settings are as follows:
Incoming Mail
Username: user@domain.com
Pass: ************
IMAP Server: 97.74.135.193
Security: SSL (always)
Authentication: Plain
Port: 993
Auto-detect IMAP namespace: (checked)
Show only subscribed folders: (unchecked)
Use compression on network: (all three checked)
Outgoing Mail
SMTP server: smtpout.secureserver.net
Security: SSL (always)
Port: 465
Require sign-in: (checked)
Authentication: Automatic
Username: user@domain.com

Thank you for this, I am on my way off the work so ill have to check the actual settings again at lunch but so far with the same server, im not getting push, still taking 15 or 30 minutes to receive even though i have check intervals at 15 minutes.
Should i be talking to aqua mail or godaddy or both?
this is boggling my mind.
I hear ya, it sucks and it's frustrating. Like I mentioned before, I'm using the 97.74.135.193 address right now at work and I can tell my emails are being pushed correctly because I'm receiving them within a minute of the "sent" time stamp and well before the email is picked up on Outlook on my desktop.
I haven't used aqua mail before, so I couldn't tell you how to get in touch with some support staff. I can tell you it was a hassle to get in touch with the K-9 devs and ended up taking a month or two and multiple emails before I got a response. Best of luck trying to get an answer from GoDaddy. I tried calling support with zero luck and started making some noise in the forums about it (http://support.godaddy.com/groups/email/forum/topic/imap-email-not-being-pushed-to-phones/) with no luck. Ultimately, GoDaddy says they don't support IMAP Push/Idle function, even though it had worked consistently for about a year and now only works intermittently. Let me know if you have further success or find something new that works.

so you are using the paid version of the K-9 email app correct?
I will give that a try because aquamail is not working like that, i am receiving emails when my app checks in 15 minute intervals, but i dont want the phone to keep checking like that
UPDATE**************
EVeryone use Kaiten, i wasted money on Aquamail, doesnt work properly, Kaiten just pushed, will try again and report throughout next couple days, but first email pushed right away!
I am so happy, thank you AwkwardBarnacle for all your help!
I'm currently using the free version of K-9 Mail (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fsck.k9&hl=en), which is without a doubt the best mail app I've come across. I've used several different hosts on this app and the only one that doesn't always push mail as it should is GoDaddy. I would definitely recommend trying it out. The link up there is for the marketplace app, but you can download the newest updates from the developers' page: https://code.google.com/p/k9mail/downloads/list
I'm currently using 4.508 and it's totally stable. Haven't run across any problems yet.

Interesting, for me, both k-9 and aquamail did not work for godaddy push email, but kaiten seems to be working "eventhough godaddy doesnt support" I dont know what is right anymore, but all i know is i press the button on my computer and send a test email from my gmail account and i hear my phone beep before i lift my phone off my mouse (well within 2-4 seconds.) Aquamail and k-9 were not able to do it. maybe i wasnt getting the settings right for k-9, but i definitely didnt have to do anything with kaiten, worked immediately. Plus the UI for kaiten is much cleaner than K-9 and aquamail is just awful and hard to read.
**UPDATE***
k-9 does work with the server as awkwardbarnacle suggested, it was not working before when i was using the imap.secureserver.net that is listed in godaddy support and what they recommend over the phone.
aquamail is confirmed to NOT work however, even with the new server configuration. so its up to user preference. between kaiten and k-9, both work.
