[Q] Benchmarks vs. Nexus One please - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since the two processors are different ...
G2: MSM7230 at 800 MHz
N1: QSD8250 at 1,000 MHz
... and I know you shouldn't compare MHz unless they're the exact same chip... which one is better overall?
Also, disregarding clock speed, what chip is newer / better? Meaning if you underclock the N1 to 800MHz which one would be better?
I know there are benchmark programs out there for Android.
Anybody run one on their G2? How do they compare to N1?
Thanks,
~Eric
Side note...
I tried posting this with 'at' symbols instead of the word "at" up by the clock speeds and I got this warning:

Linpack scores are very similar <=34
Quadrant scores, The G2 wins by 5-10%
Neocore, The G2 is about twice as fast

On the latest benchmark my G2 scored 1683... Compared to ~1500 on my N1

My G2 and N1 both get 1590 on quadrant and then similar linpacks from 30 and up
Sent from my T-Mobile G2

Sweet... thanks.
From what I heard about the G2, before it came out was that it wasn't anything special and didn't offer anything over any other phone already out there.
So its up to par with N1 as far as speed goes.
It doesn't have a front facing camera like the Evo does.
How is the flash on the G2? I have seen the Droid's and the N1's flash and they're awesome.
I'll probably upgrade to G2 as soon as its rooted (permanently).

Usually I get 1500-1600, though.

Well, the MSM7230 chipset is technologically superior due to it being manufactured with a 45nm process, versus the QSD8250 being manufactured with a 65nm process. It also contains the new Adreno 205 GPU, whereas the QSD8250 makes use of the Adreno 200 GPU.

Benchmarks
Take a look at this review.

Most people who are getting 5000+ quadrant score are flashing it completely new, closing all programs, then running the quadrant test 3-4 times.

reboot then try and run quadrant it runs best after a reboot when all the RAM and other services are refreshed.
Don't out too much stock into it. The scores can be made to look anyway someone wants with the right tweaks. I can show you a rom that scores over 9000 but lags like hell in real world use. Benchmark scores are pointless

Quadrant doesn't even support dual core so unfortunately its a **** reference.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
So why are people bragging about there benchmark speeds. Why does it matter if the quadrant scores ref dual core or not? Its still checking all the functions of your device and how your cpu performs those functions, so in away it does reflect the dual core but not specifically or completely. Until a better benchmark comes out this is what we have to work with, but using Quadrant I score around 3000 while the guys running the roms run about 5000....that makes alot more sense to me than this other bench mark app that says I am running at a faster benchmark than a completely rooted device with a rom.
Oh well...all i know is all is well...running silky smooth...i hate touch wiz...tnx for all the suggestions guys

A lower score with ics would actually make sense. Assuming its is really ics. ICS is much more a system hog itself than previous os. The only reason the transformer prime scores high is because it's a pentacore device so the test stresses all the cores.

Very true, the Exynos is able to keep even with benchmarks, only because it's just a much better CPU, thanks to the Cortex A9 tech. The S3, which snappy, will lose some performance on ICS, most likely not noticeable, but you will lose it on benchmarks.
Remember Rev and his ics build and how much crap people gave him because his build prop was 4.0.3? It's gotta be that.

ics brings performance improvements, the reason why gnexus scored badly is because its running 720p on a sgx540..

ICS is also more of a system hog, which will drop the benchmarks, but will increase real world performance dramatically.

holy balls those are some high scores..... really dont look into the "epeen benchmarks" since last year... because all it takes to get a higher score is multiple runs and tweaks to the fps/ext4 system
but alot of you hope showing your quadrants/linpacs would get you laid...... lol just playing (i had to)
but damn man those SMOKE the evo 3d on its BEST day/kernel.... and to think... many have said (even my self) that they have the same performance.... (i owned a E4GT since launch and sold it a few weeks later) cant wait to get my white one tomorrow!!!!

2)A lot of apps in background.
3)F180L software bug
8200 isnt really a lot, cause DNA makes near 8600 points (With full HD screen) and new Xperia even higher with full hd screen and same CPU.

That's cause Quadrant is a bogus benchmark.

Not really, cause in Antutu xperia reaches 20.000 points, which is far from 16.5k of my one.
And again, xperia has same cpu, 2gb ram and full hd resolution
And the DNA did, if i remember correctly, 18k points
Btw official JB is out, gonna bench again right now to check if there any difference

Hah, 5900 in quadrant. I want to shoot LG developers seriously
Now i understand how nexus4 did that low scores, unlike optimus g the stock was 4.1 and 3.4 kernel
Now I got this..
So it is NOT like fix score it is balancing depend of mobile status .. EXACTLY Tim4
You right!

but i must disagree with this your post!
lg is great now E973 is the BEST !
And + when i will be updated to jelly it will be MEGA BEST
We will see
Anyway, on 4.0.4 my quadrant score was used to be 8000~ points
On todays JB update only 6000 points~
But visually, i see no difference in speed at all.
Exactly, benchmark and, even more, Quadrant specificaly is not a precise way to test between two devices.
You'd have to, at least, install a vanilla AOSP to compare, since even the customisation of every manifacturers can cause a lot of change.
Ironicaly, a GIU which utilise the GPU to optimise smoothness on the devices would get a lower score on benchmarking, since the hardware is partly utilised by the system. But the "lower score" would mean a more pleasant experience and more fluid navigation. And, since the processor is powerfull enough, this wouldn't cause any latency in other applications or games.
I think it's more important to look for lag in different applications than to bench and check for numbers. Like when browsing in the gallery, playing games, installing apps or browsing Play store, etc.
Benchmark is a good tool to check for optimisation on the same device, or to compare if certain changes can cause sludge, like adding an apps that stays in the background.
