[Q] [Question]Evo won't turn back on. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was charging my Evo on my computer today and all of a sudden my battery died. Now it won't turn back on. After the first attempts to turn it on it would only get as far as the first HTC Evo 4G screen, then it would turn back off. This happened about three times and now it won't do anything at all.
I also noticed that when I put it on the wall charger that the red LED light doesn't even come on anymore.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be or how to fix it? I hope it's only the battery, because I can replace that!!! But I hope that's it. I don't really have enough money to be buying a new phone right now.
PLEASE HELP....SOMEBODY PLEASE!!!
P.S.
I had just installed an app called "Juice Defender" about an hour before my phone died. It's an app that's supposed to make your phones battery life last longer. I didn't configure it or anything. I just installed it. If anyone is famillier with this app is it possible that this could have caused this issue?

Just pull the battery & put it back in, then stick it on the (wall) charger overnight. The battery's probably just super-dead.
If it's not fixed in the morning, take it to Sprint & let them test a different battery. If it's your phone they should give you a new one for free as long as you have insurance.

The battery is super drained, let it sit on the charger for a couple of hours.

It worked!!
I tried what you've suggested. I left it on the charger overnight. Around six, when I woke up, it still wouldn't work. I removed the battery one last time and put it back on the charger. Now, all of a sudden, the LED light came back on. It flashed on and off about six times and then it stayed on.
I'm really relieved. Gonna leave it on until it's fully charged.
Thanks for the info.
Just hope it doesn't happen again.

Well glad that it worked. Just be sure to when the Evo starts flashing the red notification light, you need to get it to a charger. If you're out and about, I turn mine completely off at that point.

I might have killed my Battery (FIXED...for now)

Hey Guys,
I am running the Cell Pro 9.5 ROM and since yesterday my phone doesnt turn on.
So this is what happened, I never got a chance to recharge my phone yesterday and so I used it to the very last bit of juice. The phone kept switching itself off with the critical level battery warning and I kept turning it back on. So it got to a point where it wasn't switching on at all. So I pluged in the phone to the computer to charge and left it there for approximately an hour (the orange charging light was on), came back and tried to switch the phone back on and it didnt respond at all. Took out the battery, tried the soft reset button etc and everything else I thought of with no luck. So I plugged it back on and suddently it turned back on, did the boot up, loaded the touchflo and I saw the battery level was at "0" and then suddenly it turned of with a "tuck" sound (similar to a PC when you hold down the power button or turn the power off without shutting down). This has been repeating since then, I have left it plugged in and every 5-10 minutes or so the phone switches on by itself and shows the boot screen, go all the way till HTC animation and powers off suddenly. I have had no luck in turning the phone back on, I dont what is causing the issue - wether its the battery or the phone.
Please give me your thoughts....I am completely lost without my phone...
- issue was that the phone kept restarting as soon as the battery stored enough charge for a reboot. I pulled out the battery at one of the restart cycle as advised below and stopped it from repeating it. After that the phone let the battery charge without a restart, did not mess with it for a long while.
Never let the battery drain all the way down to 0%. Not sure if it affects the battery, but it sure will give you enough hassle that you wont repeat it.

The same thing happened to me last night... but mine works now. what I thought it was is that it kept turning on as soon as it had enough battery to do so then it would die and repeat... So every time it would turn on
I would take the battery out and let it charge some more and then when it quit turning back on I left it overnight and now its on...

Ok....I will try that and report back....
Sorry you pull the battery then the cord then put the battery back in then cord. Also it will take a lot longer if you charge it on the computer.
Never mind mine quit working again...

I managed to get it charging after pulling out the battery and putting it back again. Charged it through a computer cause i dont have my charger with me.
I turned it on and the battery said 40% and now every second or so it is dropping by 1%. I can literally watch it dropping down sitting here. The phone doesnt want to charge when it is on. I plug in the usb and the LED turns orange and then turns off. Now the battery is at 25%, This is litterally in about a minute or less. I dont know whats wrong, is it the Battery?
I had this exact same thing happen to me twice on previous HTC hardware (wizard). The first time I couldn't save it and just had to buy a new battery. However, the second time it happened I was able to resurrect it once I got it plugged into a higher-current charging source, like the wall charger it came with, or even most car chargers (that's how I saved it when I couldn't get to my wall charger). I had to let it sit on there for about an hour before it held enough charge to stay on, and another 2 hours before it was fully charged, but it worked just fine after that.
You battery may indeed be toast from what you describe. I have had the experience of totally discharging the battery and the device not coming on at all. I recommend that if you do this, you should fully charge it using the wall charger NOT the computer (if the computer works at all. it didnt in my case). I have done this a few times now and the battery turned out fine each time.

Thanks.....
My issue seamed to be fixed. I had to rely on a computer as I didnt have access to my charger and by the time I did my phone was at approximately 65% charge. I plugged it in and charged it all the way to 100%. Replugged it and left it for a little more while to make sure it got charged completely. I have been using it since today morning 9am and now it is 2pm at 73% after couple of calls, messages and emails.
Few more charging cycles with the wall charger and I am hoping it will be back to normal.

[Q] Can not boot

I've done lots of searching, but I haven't found anyone with this specific problem.
(Too long; didn't read it) at the bottom.
So it all started about a month ago. I plugged in my Evo 4g for the night (As the battery often lasts me a full day.) at around 10% I sleep very well and peacefully. When I wake up in the morning I notice my battery is still at 10%. "CRAP!" I thought, "Did I forget to plug it in?" So I checked everything, made sure it was plugged in, and went to class, without the phone of course. When I got back later that day, I went to my phone, and it was STILL at 10% I was freaking out. I thought my battery had died already! (At this point the phone was less than 2 weeks old.) Finally after being unable to charge, and only having 10% battery, the thing went kaput. Died. I could not for the life of me charge the phone. So I left it sitting around while I had screaming matches with not only Sprint, but the Radioshack I picked it up at. Ugh. About a week later and just as I was about to pay $100 for a new phone, I fixed it. I don't know how, or what happened. I plugged it in out of habbit, and BAM it started working. "**** YOU SPRINT!" *Hangs up phone.* I went on my marry way, being extra careful now to monitor the battery (Which was charging very normally, and lasting me a full day at little to moderate use) Then one day I was just sitting around playing videogames this past Saturday and thought "I'm not using my phone, I'll plug it in and forget about it." (The battery being at 70%.) I plugged it in and about 4 hours (And some amazing killstreaks on CoD) later, my friend called me to ask if I wanted to get lunch (He called my Evo, of course.) "Sure! I'll be right there." I hung up, closed the phone app, looked at my battery, and my heart sank. ...70% "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" (Read: Darth Vader) How could this happen AGAIN?! I used it for the rest of the day conserving as much juice as possible, and trying to charge it every chance I got. But alas.. it died once again. Now, nothing I've tried has worked. I pulled the battery over and over, plugged it in for hours and then tried to turn it on, tried a USB charger, and wall charger (Both HTC, the out of the box original) I tried my roomates LG chargers (USB and wall) Nothing worked! Then I was randomly pressing buttons when I held Power+Up (Which apparently is some kind of hacker-magic) and I got to a white screen! I thought I was saved! I let go of the power button to move around on the screen, or do something at all. Then nothing. It immediately went back to black. And now, it doesn't even go to the white screen anymore! So my question is, (Finally, god he rambled on forever) is there anything I can do to save my amazing phone outside of buying a new battery? Is this a known issue? Even with a new battery, would the same problem occur? And most importantly: What's causing this? Am I at error? Or is it the phone's fault?
Also, sorry for the long story, but I'm sure you get 1000 "Y MY FONE NO WERK?" And I wanted to make mine interesting, at least.
TL;DR My phone doesn't charge, tried every suggestion I could find.

This may sound really simple but......have you tried another battery?

Evo won't turn on|Rooted|No LED indicator.

I was internet browsing on MikG's Sense 2.1+3.0 rom, and suddenly, my phone just shuts off. So I pull off my protective case, then the back cover, thinking it was just overheated. It was warm, but not to the point where the fail safe kicks in and automatically shuts off the phone.
I've tried every fix that I could find, and nothing. I got it to turn on for a second maybe one or two times, and that's it. I have it plugged into my computer thinking maybe it's just really drained, even though I had a 90% charge. I don't think I have any other batteries to test it with (There's only my Evo, a Samsung Moment, and a LG Lotus Elite II).
So, any ideas?
Also, I bought this phone from Wirefly. Not sure if that really matters in the case of needing repairs or not.
My first guess is battery.
I ordered a new OEM one off Amazon. Hopefully it gets here before I leave for my trip.
Pull the battery and just plug into the wall. This would by pass the battery. Could have a bad charge port. Had that happen to mine. If all else fails smash it against a brick and say u fell on it to get a replacement

I tried pulling the battery and bypassing the battery entirely, but it didn't work.
Last night at about 12:30 in the morning, I plugged it into the wall, and fell asleep. A few minutes later I was woken up by the boot animation, and the phone is back on and working as normal again.
I'm still having the OEM battery shipped to me, just in case it is the battery, even the though the phone hasn't shut off once since then.

I had a similar issue with my old Touch Pro 2, It was the battery. Just food for thought.
So far the battery has held since the first incident. Won't have the new one till late next week probably.

USB charging doesn't always keep up with the phone. It only charges at .5a max. Use the wall charger to get the full 1a charge.

Desire won't boot flashing amber and green led

I have searched here and google all day to no avail. After charging my phone last night I tried to turn it on this morning and just get the amber led light then the green. It just won't boot. I have removed the battery several times, checked the battery contacts, all fine. I have tried the volume and power button trick but nothing. I rooted the phone about 4 months ago to gingervillian. All, has been well until now.I left the battery in there for a while and noticed that it got quite hot. I have now removed it and am going to leave it out overnight to see if it is anything to do with overheating. Anyone ever had similar or heard of this before, help appreciated.
Flashing amber usually means the battery is completely dead. Maybe try a new battery because it might be dead.
Oh, I like the sound of that planning to go to Tmobile shop (nearest one to me as on their network) to get it checked tommorrow. Thanks for that info.
Just an update for anyone who may have the same problem. I left the battery out all night, came down this morning and tried it and still the same amber to green and so on. Left the battery in and then about half an hour later just about to go out and noticed not flashing anymore. Tried it and it booted up fine! Battery only says 46% left will see what happens when I charge it tonight.
Tempted to go back to original rom in case this goes wrong again, didn't fancy telling the guys in the shop that I had rooted it and so voiding my warranty. Although I can't remeber what the warranty length was anyway?
Going to have a think about it as I really can't stand the original rom version.

[Q] Phone entirely dead, what gives?

This morning the alarm went off on my phone and woke me up. I walked over and silenced it, everything seemed normal: it had been plugged it all night and the battery seemed full.I didn't unplug it, but simply dismissed the alarm and went off to shower, have breakfast etc. Half an hour later, I come back, the phone is completely dead. Still plugged in but LED is not lit. Holding down the power button does nothing, holding down power+volume does nothing. No screen activity, no vibrate, no LED. I tried replacing the battery, used both a spare Anker I had lying around and the original HTC battery. I tried plugging it into 2 different chargers as well as to my PC, nothing at all - I don't even get a charging LED.
Considering the phone had been plugged in all night and was working this morning, I don't think this is either a dead battery or a faulty USB port issue. Can't be sure of course. Can anyone advise me on how to diagnose the problem?
Just wanted to update to say that after a full day of it charging the phone is still completely dead and makes no response when I attempt to switch it on. I've ordered yet another spare battery with an external battery charger just to make sure that's not the issue, although, as I said in the OP, I very much doubt that's the case since the phone had been charging all night and was working and fully charged 1 hour before I notice it had died.
Any advice appreciated!
OK, another update, a brand new Anker battery with an external charger arrived today. After charging it for an hour and inserting it into the phone, trying to switch it on once again did nothing. No LED activity, nothing on the screen. Power+voldown also did nothing. So whatever's wrong with it is not a power issue: it died out of the blue, an hour after waking me up in the morning, while it was just sitting on my desk plugged in!
I've already bought a Moto X to replace it with, but if anyone has any ideas to help me fix it (or at least find out why it died) I'd really appreciate you sharing them! I love this phone and I would dearly love to keep it around as a backup!
