Anti-Glare Screen Protectors? - Xoom Accessories

The Xooms display is absolutely terrible in sunlight or anywhere bright, its nearly unusable. I don't know why these companies don't use anti-glare screens or oleophobic coating at the least. Are there any anti-glare screen protectors out there for the xoom?

There are threads on this already but I bought the Invisibleshield from Zagg. It did wonders on my phone so I am sure it will be great on the Xoom as well for glare and fingerprints. You might also want to turn off auto-brightness and manually adjust it.

I bought one from screenguardz:
ScreenGuardz for Motorola Xoom
Please search youtube. It seems to me, it is good non-sticky solution, easy to apply.
You can find 10% coupon for this.

I've ordered the Anti-Glare screen from Boxwave. I've always liked their protectors. Will report back here when I get it and try it out.

Finally received my invisibleShield and it is awesome. Can't compare to others but it has dramatically reduced the glare and fingerprints. I highly recommend it.

I doubt pics would help see the difference with my phone camera otherwise I would post them.

Any updates on the boxwave anti glare? wondering if it helps a lot in sunlight

i did a review on a screen protector on xoom forums check it out youtube video on page 2 by me. http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/motorola-xoom-accessories/2469-antiglare-fingerprints-screen-protector.html

You don't want to post pics because you will still see the glare lol. I got the zagg shield the first day I got the xoom. It keeps the finger prints off but they don't call it an invisible shield for nothing. The glare is still the same. Any improvement is barely noticable. Here is a picture taken with my cell phone. It would be no different no matter what the camera is taking the picture.

Honestly though I would rather use a screen protector that actually can protect the screen and not just reduce the glare. The zagg shield also comes with a lifetime warranty.

Weird, why no mention of the SGP Steinheil Ultra Fine?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=985885&highlight=sgp
Many of us who used the Ultra Fine are very satisfied in the reduction of glare, resistance to fingerprints and clarity despite being matte.
http://www.sgpstore.com/tablets/mot...-screen-protector-steinheil-ultra-series.html

Just got and installed the Boxwave ClearTouch Anti-Glare. I've used a dozen of these things over the years so I have a lot of practice installing them correctly... just never on a 10.1 inch screen, so I was worried about lint and bubbles.
Cleaning the screen and prepping my work space took about ten minutes. I put little tabs of clear tape on the corners to help move the screen protector without touching the adhesive. Starting on the edge with the camera I stuck about a half inch of the adhesive down and pulled the backing out from under it while pressing down the sticky part.
Got a couple of bubbles that I pushed out to the edge easily and now the thing looks almost perfect. Now I have to get used to the slight blur it adds to the screen, which should be easy if the ones I have used on my phones, palms and iPods are any indication.

And hard as hell to put on. I ended up removing mine because it messed it up when applying. I didn't have bubbles. It was just because it was ruining the screen. The screen looked terrible, because of how many times I removed it I guess.

Just received my SGP today and succesfully installed it on my first try! So far, I'm very pleased with it and I would recommend it to everyone.
P.S. - Installation is a lot easier if you apply the screen protector in a steamy room.

I've tried this on a phone and while it made the process a lot easier by settling any dust in the air I also set off the water damage indicator on my phone and battery.. brand new phone and my warranty was void. I dont have a Xoom yet but I am going to assume they have a similar indicator hidden somewhere.

SGP Steinheil Ultra Fine is great and actually make the xoom usable in direct sunlight.
I use it on the train every day and no longer have problems with sunshine coming in from the windows. The difference is huge and it also does a great job with keeping fingerprints off the screen.
For installation I really recommend using a can of compressed air.

Hmmm idk I didn't make it so steamy that there would have been water damage. Just enough that the mirrors fogged up.
And for the person asking about where to buy they have it on Amazon which is where I ordered it from.

Anyone Using A Matte Screen Protector?

I cant find any. its probably just because of the phones newness i guess, but there is a shortage of cheap accessories on eBay... lol but patience is a virtue...
DO NOT use matte protector, it makes the SAMOLED look like 1970s B&W TV with no signal, I tried it on my vibrant and on the new sgs-II with same results. Anyways if you want one then its available here:

hmmmm never heard this before.... this is not good. thanks for the heads up. i was deff gonna buy one. how did it do against finger prints?
It does reduce the fingerprints as compared to glossy one but at a cost of looking at horribly pixelated screen with rainbow effect which is much noticeable in solid colors or backgrounds. You'd wish they worked as well as matte screens on laptop.
LOL i guess i purchased one without knowing

I used to have a matte screen protector on my HD2. Gave me headaches from the rainbow oil-slick effect.
Yep, the other members are correct. I had one on the S2 for about...two days because my OEM screen protector had gotten bent, and it was the worst move ever. Touch accuracy was a joke. The screen looked horrible. ~1980's tv
Yeah I hated my matte screen protector on my SGS4G. Made it look really pixilated like vicosphi said.

Unlike the typical screen protectors, the ones I got from XtremeGuard do not have 3 layers of plastic (meaning there's no protective layer covering the top of the screen protector itself, just the screen protector and the backing).
In addition, the sides of the screen protector do not stick to the screen. You get a bubbling effect all around the screen protector. This probably has something to do with the poor cutting of the film. You can see that they aren't well cut even before peeling and applying the screen protector. I haven't had this issue with other screen protectors, and yes, I've used many.
Maybe they sent me a bad batch but I'm only speaking from experience. I'm not talking about their other full body products, only the screen protector.
I still have around 4 or 5 of them lying around at home left over from testing if anyone wants pictures but that would have to wait until tonight.
Just got my phone today... ordered Realook Screen protector two days ago... I had it on my Samsung Vibrant.. one of the best! It gives the real glass feel and looks like nothing is there.... hope it give me the same result.
i ordered this cheepo matte one. when i get it i'll do a review of it.

i got a matte for my hp touchpad and i love how it makes the screen easier to use even though image is less crisp.
matte Screen protector
I tried a matte screen protector and am glad I finally got some regular ones. The matte one, does not look good on the phone. It is harder to read smaller words and does give the screen a much less defined look. One other big issue is my matte screen did not have the cutout for the front facing camera and every time I tried using the front facing camera, my face was all blurred out. One selling point to the matte screen is enhanced visibility in sunlight. I found out this is not true with the super AMOLED plus screen. The screen looks fantastic in sunlight with a regular screen protector, and dull looking with the matte screen. Hope this helps.

I purchased an xtreme guard on Ebay and the cutout was reversed. The sticky part was on the wrong side. The seller is sending me a replacement. hopefully it's correct this time. The cutout doesn't seem exact either. I'll report back when I get the new screen protector. I purchased a mirror finish one prior and I couldn't see **** in the daylight. Lol!

3 layers? That's the cheap crap. Why do you need to cover a scratchproof screen protector? How do you think they keep costs down? By not doing laying an unnecessary layer of film. Even the $30 ZAGG doesn't have a top protective layer.
In addition, you more than likely applied the film incorrectly.
Mine should be here anyday now. I'll post how to make it proper.
I don't work for Xtreme. I've just always used them since my LG Dare days.
I've worked in the wireless industry since 2005. I applied over 400 screen protectors in the past year.
I can say it's not for everyone. Especially the wet applications. I actually ordered one to prove you wrong.
I'll also do an iPhone 4 and Touchpad as well.

I didn't read the directions. I used a spray bottle. I didn't use the squeegee that came with it. I used another. The screen protectors work perfectly fine. Yes, it gets bubbles. But that's the concept. That's how all wet applications work. I did 3 today and they all settled / cured within hours. Be sure to take your time. I use an air duster. A little heat goes a long way and speeds up the process. I usually throw it in my pocket screen facing my leg.
If you get dust under there, you muffed up.
Some of the bubble will stay under there for 1-3 days. You can work them out. If you stretch the screen protector it will overlap and you will see it lift up. I left mine sit in the sunlight for a little and the bubble started working themselves out. Make sure you're doing it right first before telling everyone to avoid the company. Have a little more tact. I'm sure most of the others are probably better at simple things like applying screen protectors than you are.

Where did you buy this case?
As i have now tried 3 different screen protectors i can say this:
ZAGG/KINGFISH: both sold by car phone warehouse are no good.
Zagg is a flimsy piece of skin which once fitted is not even smooth. Your finger will not slide on the screen and it makes the view on the screen quite poor as well.
Kingfish is a Matt type screen. Its smooth but also covers the front camera and goes beyond the beveled edge of the phone making it easy to collect dust. Viewing is not very good and i suspect covering the sensors won't do any good either
Positive: Protex
Sold by phones4u and online. Cheap when compared with the above and easy to fit. (I always use droplets of water to fit as it eliminates dirt and little dust fibres to the minimum)
Easy to slide the finger on, does not cover the sensors or cameras.
Rock screen protector: similar to protex, a bit wider and same quality. Highly recommended to the point that i have cancelled the original protectors that Samsung will bring out later in the month.
Overall if you want something that will be good and not disrupt the feel and view, the 2 above ones are ideal. I'm sure there will be other more or less expensive but i won't be testing any new ones.

Are Protex and Rock wet or dry protectors? Do they stretch to the edges of the phone? Or are the edges exposed?
The eyes are slightly exposed about 2mm.
They are not soft protectors and that makes them very good. No glare or other issues. Zagg is a soft one and the most problematic one.
When you say wet or dry i suspect you mean needing to use spray water to apply. Both rock and protex do not need water to apply but using it makes it much easier to apply

Wet application screen protectors
I originally got a dry application screen protector (the ones with the sticky stuff) as an interim measure. After a few days it did start peeling up slightly on the edges as the screen is curved on the edges. I then ordered an XtremeGuard protector (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/23080181...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3744wt_1396) which is a wet application one. It has been sooooo good. Since it is wet application it is alot more flexible and can hence handle the curved edges. Also the XtremeGuard protectors don't suffer from the 'lemon-peel' effect of other wet application screen protectors.
Not saying anything bad against other screen protectors, more just sharing my experience with some screen protectors.
Gear4 Case vs. Case-mate
Hi,
Your Gear4 case looks very nice and pricing is reasonable.
Do you have any experience with the Case-mate barely there cases and how it compares to your Gear4 case?
Thanks

Why bash this company and say SGP was first? This company could have been first they are actually shipping now not just taking pre-orders. I first saw this protector on ebay around the same time the SGP was posted on here so who knows who was first?
I have no affiliation with them I'm just saying there is no point in saying it's not unique when they are the first company SHIPPING one so it actually is unique

I got mine today and they were a little difficult to align properly but not bad. You have to press on the edges several times to get them to stick but if your persistent they will stay down. The clarity is pretty good. When the screen is off there are some weird looking sport that almost look like orange peel but they are smooth and you cannot feel them. When the screen is on you cannot see these spots at all. These are just my first thoughts. I will report back in a few days to see if the edges stay down.
Overall I am pretty happy with the protector. They are much better than the straight ones that don't stick to the edges.
Amazon no longer has this screen protector. I was just about to order it too.

You might've seen a momentary Amazon stock hiccup, because I see that it's still in stock for $12. I have it "saved for later" as a 2nd choice while I await SGP's Curved Crystal.
with the sgp one's you get two pieces.

Fwiw. The sgp dealer i ordered from told be they had issues with the first batch that came in and that they are going to have to cut a new match which might cause further dealay.

SGP failed with first batch of "Curved Crystal"
Then SGP failed with first batch of Neo Hybrid.
Goodness, are they testing it out on a customers?
p.s. Tridea owners, any comments on a subject?
Are these worth it? Seem to be the cheapest screen protectors for the quality?

Help me with picking a screen protector

Right now I am using a DBA screen protector and although it is a great protector, it is not what I am looking for. I am looking for a protector that covers the whole screen and does not leave the 1mm edge around it that looks like it is lifting up. And a protector that looks as clear as the naked screen.
So far I have narrowed it down to these two. I wish I could see both in person. Thats why I am asking you guys is you have had experience with either. I figure XDA is probably a better source than amazon reviews as many here are picky like I am.

I just ordered a set of 3 from xtremeguard.com. They're $5 each, but order 3 and use the code '80off3' and get 80% off. So 3 for $3, free shipping! I hope they don't suck...
Thanks phixional for the tip.
Unfortunately, I haven't tried either of those. I use the Zagg HD screen right now, and I can say that it keeps the screen looking sharp and protects it well. Don't go to cheap and end up with a scratch and regret not spending the extra $5
try the realook one, its really high quality and is super durable
I've used the both ArmorSuit screen protector and the dba one, currently using the dba. The ArmorSuit does indeed cover the whole screen and even comes with a small film that covers the home button. Installation is the standard wet application, it slides around pretty easily once you set it on the phone before the water is squeege'd out. Be warned though that the ArmorSuit dents very easily and contrary to their "self healing" claim, it's not true. I had a weird dent on the top part of my screen protector and thought it would go away eventually, two weeks later it was still there. Also in terms of smoothness, it's pretty smooth for a wet application but the dba screen protector wins in that regard. Customer service for AS is also pretty good, I told them about the dent and they sent me two new screen protectors.
Just for comparison's sake, I've owned a skinomi screen protector for an iPhone4s, it's not as smooth as AS and it acquired an orange peel effect in a pretty short amount of time. There was also some imperfections on the screen protector that caused vertical streaks all over the protector. But customer server for skinomi is excellent and they sent me a new pack after I told them about the issue.
I would still say that dba > AS > skinomi but if you're really keen on having the screen protector cover the whole face of the phone then I would suggest you go with AS
dont know how come this isnt mentioned more often but i have been using bestskinsever for some time and ive been extremely pleased with them. they are pretty cheap to boot too. just grabbed a bunch during the BOGO for black friday
I have a friend that says he likes the armor suit military. I have yet to get a screen protector and might just go without one but I think if I do I will go with the armor suit as I have heard others that like it.

I actually ended up with the hd. I like it and it has minimal orange peel. However, the installer nicked it in a couple of spots and said they would go away within 5 days or so (otherwise they will replace it). They have gotten smaller and I am on day two. Have you had experience with dings fully going away?
Thanks for the replies!!

What do you think of the Skimomi? I wonder if I can use it with the TPU case.
I tried the Armor Suit and it shows nicks in it ... they say it heals over time, but after a week it still shows them

I'll echo this. I've used this brand on multiple devices and I've always been very happy with it. I just ordered from them yesterday. They are very inexpensive and have a 30% off sale through the 14th.
Anyone tried glass screen protector from xgearlive.com for this device?

My review of the amFilm Moto G screen protector

Just received my amFilm screen protectors and have to say they are one of the best plastic screen guards I've used to date. Here is what the company has to say on their amazon page: (then my opinions)
Invisible, superior quality, 3-layer PET film that will not distort the High Definition screen clarity/natural color pallette
Protects screen from daily scratches, dust, scrapes, and normal signs of wear
Attaches smoothly with self-adhering surface, leaves no residue when removed
Includes: (3) Screen Protectors, Micro-Fiber Cleaning Cloth, Squeeze Card, Installation Manual
The package I received looks very professional and was undamaged during transit thanks to the bubble wrap envelope they used to send it in. :good:

Inside the packaging, I found the usual items, (squeegee card, microfiber cloth) plus a couple things usually not found with screen protectors, like detailed installation instructions (2 methods described) and dust removal/hinge stickers. Nice touch.
I prefer using the side hinge method of application, but I'm sure vertical application is just as good.
After applying the protector, I went about looking closely at it in different light sources, swiping and tapping my brains out. I have to say that after the initial "break-in" (getting skin oil worked in) I really couldn't tell the difference between the protector and real glass. It's very smooth and hard. Touch response was not affected at all by it, at least I couldn't tell any difference. There is no rainbow effect when viewed closely in the light, and as a matter of fact, it looks like clear glass.
Screen coverage is just about edge to edge, so even without a case, you really can't tell it's on there. Cutouts are perfectly aligned.
It is somewhat oleophobic, but I have yet to see one that is 100% anti skin oil. But good nonetheless. If I didn't tell you I had a screen protector on my phone, you'd be hard pressed to notice it. This is simply the best one I've used so far, and they now have a loyal customer. And, as of this writing, they are only $1.00 for 3 (includes shipping) http://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Invisi...ywords=amfilm+premium+screen+protector+moto+g
I defy you to find a better deal. Great product, awesome price. I would pay $1 per sheet for these, easily. Look no further if you need screen protectors for your G. amFilm makes screen protectors for other phones too.
I would show you how it looks on my phone, but it's invisible!

This isn't a comparison thread. If you want to talk about that particular screen protector, start a new thread.
I bought one the other day. $1 total.
How is it installed? With water or?
Dry install
Just ordered mine of Amazon. Good price and looks really good!
Got mine today!! I ordered it the 13th and Amazon said it was going to come either the 20th or 25th. Pretty damn good.
The installation is very easy, though you have to have stickers ready when doing step 1-2 because otherwise keeping the protector in "place" is sort of hard because its a little slippery. But once you put on the stickers it's very easy to just simply put it on.
The screen quality is great. I don't even notice it's on. Great protector for the price. I did the Hinge Installation by the way. It's very easy. If you don't get it, watch the video they supply in with the QR code in the instruction manual.
I just received my amFilm screen protectors today, and they're pretty good, but I don't have much to compare them to. I've only put screen protectors on two of my phones before. The only thing I'll have to get used to is the fact that swiping from the side, I catch on the edge of the screen protector. I use Sidebar Pro, with my trigger set at the middle of the right edge of the screen. Swiping to open the bar, I catch on the protector, but not badly enough to disrupt what I'm doing. Other than that, so far, so good.
Hi,
your review reads so awesome that I tried to purchase these protectors. However I live in Germany and they do not ship to countries outside the US.
I would like to ask you for a favour: would someone buy these protectors (pref. with prime for free shipping) and then forward them to be in Germany? Can someone guess how much this would be? I would really appreciate this.
Screen protectors here cost about 9-11 USD and I cannot find any reviews.

They are no longer $1.00 on amazon, and now go for $4.95. With shipping, they would be very expensive. You're better off just buying what's available in Germany.

So they don't get unresponsive? I've had some on my Pico which did.
after removing the crap screen protector that came with my otterbox commuter case, which had an insane amount of glare and made the screen so unresponsive it was frustrating, this HD clear screen protector by amfilm truly delivers as op stated. there is now zero glare and the touch responsiveness is pin point accurate! I'm one very satisfied customer. thank you for the recommendation sir.
