[Q] paid apps for free? - Windows Phone 7 General

Back when i had my iphone, they would give out paid apps for free like once a day. Is there anything similar to that for windows phone 7. i could use some nice apps

They offer "Deal of the Week" apps but it's deff not free.

When the marketplace grows larger...

almost every app has a free trial, many offer full function and just post an ad banner

ok , i can deal with ads no problem . Which apps have ads for the full version?

I have an LG Quantum Optimus from Bell Canada. There's an LG APP store Category that shows up in the marketplace with apps for us to download an install that are LG developed or are paid apps being offered to LG users as a free download. Their way of saying thanks to their customers. About half are swapped out with new ones once a month or something.

I would love this.. I am unable to buy apps for my phone because my region is unsupported. I'm an avid apps buyer (I've probably bought more than 100 euro in apps on my iPhone) and the app buyer in me is suffering.

wow, just wow. no wonder all the apps are going ad supported. I'd much rather pay 5 bucks for an app then be hammered with ads....

I thought there was a way for you to get around that by using a proxy server on your home computer for zune?

Its steals your info (phone habits etc) and will sell it to third party advertisers... there's a lot of shady info in the privacy policy (because its a free app).
If your worried about finding your lost phone get Where is My Droid, free app that can be triggered via txt msg.

Dude where are you coming up with that info??? Aren't these folks revered for the service they offer? I haave been using them and have peace of mind knowing what it can do if needed, and as far as I know they are not a free app....thay are for those grandfathered in by their beta versions, but the new versions are paid.

You're a damn fool! It is actually free in the market (just checked to confirm). I had installed it a few days ago and after playing with it for a little bit it wasn't just what I was looking for. It wasn't bad, just not everything I'm looking for.
i used that app on my tilt2 it was pretty nice, primarily the trace your phone from a computer and scream functions but its not absolutely necessary, now im using phonelocator pro pretty good app also

Apps on sale - Google Play

Just found a whole bunch of apps on sale on Google play. Big reductions for Dead Space and mSecure - Password Manager.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/collection/promotion_2012_03_06_AppsFavorites?start=0&num=24
I went for the flick golf. Worth 20p of anyone's money, wasn't keen on the others.
Thanks

Lol true... I'll dl once I get home and give it a shot. I've looking for a good RPG on android.
Like the .10 cent promotion where I bought everything on the list, I figure someday in the future, I may (or may not) ever use the app. Maybe on a new device, maybe not.
Even if I don't use it, ever, a dev got paid something and it may encourage that dev to produce more products in the future.
So with that mindset, I'll probably buy everything on this list too, even if I don't use it, just so the dev gets my appreciation for it. Again, who knows, maybe someday I'll actually use some of those apps.
.25 an app. So what, I'll skip a few sodas this week.
Awesome deal. I got Cut the Rope experiments, World of Goo (which i believe was 6.99 just yesterday!), Dungeon Village (same dev as game dev story, awesome) and shark dash, and doubletwist alarm clock. They are all great apps and they costed less then two bucks all together. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on these all week.

Need for speed apk is not warez

I bought the NFS game that came as a demo on the phone. It is different than the one in the play store. It was paid through my tmobile account not the play store. If i root and put on a rom that does not include this demo I will not be able to use an app that I paid for. just as a FYI the one in the play store is a different version its not the one that came on our phone. This post is in response to a MOD closing and removing the apk in another thread. it is not illegal if it is a DEMO. if you paid for the demo it does not mean you can download the one in the play store for free. anyway lesson learned because the demo version on the phone doesn't even get updated so I will always wait and buy apps from Google play. if it was still on sale i would buy it again but not dropping another 7 for something i already bought. To the MOD that deleted the apk Please think before playing internet GOD.
Game can only be purchased through the Google Play legally. If you purchased it from somewhere else, who did you sent the payment to? If you have a receipt than you can try contacting Google for help.
You can save your game progress with Titanium Backup but your phone have to be rooted to use that app.
Also if a demo version is all you are looking for, there are plenty of rooted stock roms that already comes with the demo game.

maybe you didn't read the post. But you are wrong because when the phone first came out the game was not in the play store. it was on teh phone as a demo and when i purchased i was told the payment would be added to my next TMobile bill. The NFS in the app store says shows as not purchased and form what i am told the one that comes on the phone is a slightly different version. only problem with the version on our phone is that it doesn't get updated like the one in the store. I guess my best bet is to use a rooted stock rom and back it up with titanium. I hope the license stays intact im not sure how tmobile handles that.
As I've said if you have a receipt just contact who you purchase from or Google Play store to get help. How much did you pay for the game? If it's $6.99 it should be paid through Google. Are u sure your game is not a demo?

All you need to do is provide a link from the creator of the game that shows it free to download for EVERYONE, ANYTIME. But as you say you PAID for a demo, it IS warez if you provide it for free. {Who pays for a DEMO?} The app that comes with the Note II is a DEMO of the App in the Playstore. When you PAY for it, you get the app in the Playstore.
As T-Mobile doesn't sell apps, who do you think the app was purchased from? I buy a bunch of apps on the Playstore and charge them to my T-Mobile account.
Firstly the demo is not paid version. So demo is not warez. In fact the developer paid Samsung Mobile to have the demo in Galaxy Note 2.
I don't know if the upgrade from demo to full is through Samsung's app store, Google Play store or through the developer themself. So I have no idea how to get around this problem. I would email the developer about this problem.
I bought the full version on the Google Play store when the price was discounted to $0.99. So that is the reason for not knowing. Sorry.

This site is called xda develpers, not Flexte Gets To Post Whatever. As mods they get to delete whatever they wish if they feel its against the rules. If the demo was freely available to the masses I'd say your have a case but as this was a app that was included with a certain device and not given to the world, I'd have to call it warez.

1) First I do not play games on my phone, but lots do, but I do now apps/paid/demo...as stated in the above comments, does your carrier have a history of free & paid>>apps/demos, just like Google Play. Last time I checked, if I had a paid version of anything, you could still download and install the free version of that app, but why. And if it came with your phone well learning to back your app, if you decide to try another ROM is a must.

I understand what the OP was trying to say but was not clear in explaining.
I also purchased the full version of NFS most wanted after playing the demo included on the note 2. It was an in app purchase for $6.99 that was charged to my T-mobile account.
If I go to the play store and search for NFS most wanted it comes up as costing $4.99. It does not say it is installed on my phone or purchased by me.
The issue will be when I root I will no longer have the version that came pre loaded on the note 2.
Is the apk of the demo really warez? If you can't download it from EA, Samsung, or T-mobile then I would say yes.
Still feel screwed over by T-mobile/Samsung on this one as it was miss leading since I thought I was purchasing an app from the play store, not some other market.

Does this move by Google Play make anyone else viably upset?

http://majorgeeks.com/story.php?id=38037
All adblocking apps have been removed officially by Google.
I'm honestly surprised that it didn't happen sooner. Ad revenue taken from developers causes developers to cease development of apps because they aren't making any money at all. Let's face it, most of us don't buy apps. I get ad supported apps and Amazon's free app of the day. I have bought maybe 5 apps since I got the Hero when it came out...
^^ agreed ^^ it's their app their choice. You're choice to use it or not. Sucks but the way it is.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
That does suck. That was the biggest reason I rooted half of my phones...:crying:
I buy most of the apps I use. But it's just a hosts file.
Like most others here, if I don't want ads I buy the app. Devs survive on ad revenue with their free apps. I'm not trying to step on any toes, I'm no saint either, but it's not the least bit surprising that a company who gets a lot of it's money through ad revenue removed ad-blocking apps from it's marketplace. Couple bucks gets you an ad free app usually and keeps food on the dev's tables.

I usually buy the paid apps as well, but there are free apps that don't have the option to pay to remove ads. That's where my adaway comes in. Anyway I'm sure you'll be able to find these apps on the Internet so no reason to worry

If it's gonna make more devs, company create more apps/games for the android market then why not. I think little by little they will try to emulate the apple store with limitations and more restrictions . but like dude above me said just get the free app elsewhere, kinda the same deal with flash no biggie.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I support apps that are worth the money, like ROM ToolBox, Carbon Backup, Nova (and not all of these even have ads) but some free ads have no pro alternatives. I'm pro for developers making money...but if a user wants to block ads, that's their choice to do so on their OPEN-SOURCE OS lol. It's not a huge problem for people like us who can simply just load the .apk up or insert a modified hostfiles..but it looks if it was an "Appleish" move and that's the main reason I'm disappointed. If anyone gets what I mean by that. Regardless, since this had to happen, hopefully the developers make more money through ads and better apps can be developed and funded for? (Just a positive insight)
TL;DR : Google shouldn't have removed apps that didn't infringe on copyrights, but some developers still offer their apps unofficially thankfully. And we should now see devs being supported more!
Yeah I know what you mean, it's open source but do you expect to be so open the more successful android becomes. That's why Google wants to get rid of removable batteries and sd cards, they essentially want to control more of what you can do with a phone. people love android because you have options that's why it's so successful unlike apple so who knows what will happen in the future.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I also buy the apps I really like. If i use that app on occasion then i dont mind the ads, as long as they are the banners at the bottom or something, and dont just pop up in full screen when im trying to do something. Those apps that do that, i usually delete and just find an alternative app.
Some ads are intrusive especially the ones that spam your status bar with notifications about making your junk bigger. Not all apps have donate versions either as others have mentioned.
I don't know why this is upsetting it's not like ad blocking apps are going away... remember on Android we can install apps not in the play store

Indeed. It just feels as if Google is going towards Apples iron fist way of running things. No external sd card in the Nexus 4 and no removable battery as mentioned above? Apple phones also fill that criteria. Only time will tell to see if they become truly brazen.

Exactly my reason. If an app is worthy I have no problem shelling out a few bucks for it. It's just the occasional free apps that just straight up comes with ads. No paid versions.
Well i have bought 97% of my apps so for me it's no big deal what i don't like is that my payed apps come with ingame purchase.

I think the move sucks but honestly I'm not surprised
I assume most of the apps that got pulled are going to be online pretty soon.

I personally never removed ads anyways. The devs put a lot of time and effort into these and if I'm too cheap to pay for it, I can deal with the ads.
BTW 95% of my apps have been purchased if they have a pro/paid version.

If I can't afford the paid version (still haven't gotten around to justifying some of them to myself) then letting them get money from someone else is the least I can do.

I don't think it's really about that kind of control. The battery issue is about cost (and I'd guess has a lot to do with the manufacturer they're working with and what they have available that they'll work with), and the sd card issue is about Google trying to push people to use Cloud services (some parts business and some parts probably genuinely thinking it's a good idea) and a dash of them not having a clue (I love Google, but the idea that the external sd is "confusing" to users is just silly - my mom didn't know hers existed until I told her - it didn't "confuse" her, it was just a non-issue).

Once Google has a windows and Mac app like iTunes then they could do this cloud service crap, it's not time yet. They are always going to give a lame excuse but I'm happy not all manufacturers are carrying along.
