[Q] Could someone tell me how to price my used Desire (unlocked, GSM UK, April 2010) - Desire General

This is the original UK/Europe GSM unlocked model purchased just under 1 year ago from handtec UK. It's in pristine shape, as I have always had it in a slicon/TPU case. Here is the model:

In USA, this phone runs on AT&T and T-Mobile, However, on TMO, it is NOT 3-G, only edge speeds, as it does not have the bands for TMO's 3G. I believe it has the bands for Canada's Roger's net, not sure.
This phone just had its entire motherboard replaced brand new by HTC Warranty Service -- the reason was due to the microUSB port solder-points slipping and thus bad PC-data-connections. This has been a frequent problem for people with the Desire and the Sprint EVO (google: HTC Desire microUSB port). The point is, the warranty service was a complete motherboard replaced, and there has never been any other issue.
The phone has never been rooted. It has the stock ROM, and has been updated with the periodic OTA HTC updates to froyo 2.2
I bought a myTouch 4g 2 months ago before I sent my Desire in for warranty work, and I like having the front camera, so I want to sell the Desire. Before I go to the Marketplace, I thought I would ask what is the reasonable price for it. (I will later take some well-lit close up pics of every surface; have the original box, charger etc)
Last question: If this were to be shipped to Europe, for example, what method do people usually use?
Thank you. /quicksite

If this is the A8181 model, it definitely doesn't work on Canada's Rogers network on 3g. I have the same model and the best it can do is EDGE.

okay thanks, i'm sure that is the case -- that it is only edge. Because i recall one year ago when everyone was hyped up to buy this phone (... so funny, how just one year ago this was the phone to have, and there were major shortages in supply chain throughout europe for weeks ... but such is mobile life!).. that I was checking to see if the Roger's model had the TMO 3G bands --- and it did not, which meant 2g for me (edge). Thanks for clarifying.

If it's in euro's then between 200 and 230 euro's is a reasonable price. With the currency of today that would be between 288 and 330 dollars.

Hi, thank you very much for the guidelines. That may be fair but it seems a little lower than the Craigslist market shows.... but not all supply and demand are same region to region.
Anyone else have an opinion, or is this on the nose and recommended way to go? I have not yet looked at XDA's marketplace, mostly because it is generally driven by hurry hurry hurry, i need i need i need, i want i want.... And in my case I just want to make a no hassle deal that is fair to me, not just artificially low-balled.
I was looking at swappa, but i saw no recommended prices.
In my San Francisco Bay area craigslist ads, this is what I see -- but it could be comparing apples to oranges since there are so many flavors of HTC Desire -- and a critical factor for USA user would be its ability to run at 3G speeds. And it can't.
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=HTC+Desire&catAbb=mob&srchType=T&minAsk=&maxAsk=
The version I have, the 8181 -- the seller in Bay Area is asking $410 -- have no idea what he will get for it ... but for the AT&T 3G version, it's asking price is between $350 and $500 on Craigslist.
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/mob/2313338713.html
I'd rather sell to an XDA'er, but there are two types of XDAers in the market place: Fair players and fast players looking to scoop up phones then resell them (editorial: I can't stand those people but I see them all the time browbeating sellers who have already offered really great discounted deal, and they come back with absurd terms. I'd boot them off this site if I could.)

Lenny, I think given what I find, that this phone can be bought brand new in USA from Amazon (vendor) for $445 USD (free shipping USA),

then my rule of thumb is that paying $100 less for a one year old smartphone in excellent condition is fair & reasonable. So that would be $345 -- which is pretty close to what you said on the higher end of your sliding scale.
So, I will take pics and probably first put it on craigslist here in San Francisco, or maybe just list in both places at same time: craigslist and XDA marketplace. Either way I will include link to hi-rez video that shows the phone in high-detail and usage.
This was how I got it and decided to play against the stereotype:
IRREVERENT UNBOXING VIDEO:
and this was my early experimenting with a carry strap, which i later solved in completely different way -- but this was one year ago (april-may 2010)
MISSING CARRYING STRAP:
*** and don't worry, those white "egrip" grip pads were taken off after 1 week and the case arrived. I just didn't want it slipped out of my hand and crashing to floor.
and
this was my frustration at lack of accessories last year when Desire was released....., again, done for humor.

t-mo's 3g networks/phones avail...bummed

im not sure why i just expected my dash to be 3g enabled...i just figured that when tmo would roll it out theyd give ya a new sim and viola!...so when i call and ask when, effin tmo says YES, we have 3g in dallas (so im all excited...bummer) anyways, instead of paying 400 bux early termination JUST to have faster net with att, im curious to what phones tmo offers that are either similar to dash or better(but under 300 bucks)
my next question, with a 3g sim card...would i be able to just buy an htc (anything cool) or can i use another network's 3g phone and unlock it?
i would really like to keep my dash, but i really want faster net/youtube.
so basically, what are my options for a 3g phone using tmo's network and best htc's phone "bang for the buck"-qwerty or touch doesnt matter.
also, mods-sorry to post this in excalibur, please move or bump if necessary
thanks in advance for the help, much appreciated

your gonna have to buy a phone that supports 3G and the dash will never be a 3G phone sorry to say if u want a 3G phone like i said your gonna have to buy an unlocked phone that supports 3G. i myself wish my dash ran on 3G but you cant always get what you want.
That's not going to work either, I'm afraid. T-Mobile bought a wonky new frequency spectrum from the FCC for their 3G network. It's the first time this frequency has been used at all in the world, so you're not going to find a non-tmoUSA phone to use 3G on tmo's network. As much as I like them (and assuming it's not just the FCC's fault), this could be another shrewd form of a subsidy lock.
Also, to reinforce this point, it's extremely difficult for manufacturers to include all the voice bands and all the data bands on current phones as it is. It will be even more difficult to find a true "world phone" anymore that works with 3G as well as voice, both around the world and at home on tmo.
To see a list of new phones coming out, check http://tmonews.com/forums/index.php?topic=112.0. Some of them support 3G.

what frequency did they get? current att 3g is 1900, isn't it?
I think it's 1700
Here's an October 2006 article from endgadget:
As expected, T-Mobile has provided full disclosure today on exactly what it plans to do with all that juicy spectrum picked up in this summer's FCC auctions. Having been left out of the 3G race put on by its fellow national carriers, it comes as no surprise that T-Mobile has officially committed to rolling out UMTS / HSDPA on the 1700 and 2100MHz bands at a cost of some $2.1 billion. Unfortunately, the specrum is a few megahertz off from the UMTS 2100 used elsewhere, meaning existing 3G handsets designed to operate in Europe will be relegated to doing their 2.5G thing when roaming stateside; that being said, beggars can't be choosers, and we're sure T-Mobile is ecstatic to simply have somewhere to drop some next-gen data. Perhaps understanding that the wireless customer base at large can be both fickle and impatient, the nation's fourth-largest carrier is wasting no time getting its 3G equipment set up -- the rollout begins, like, now (they claim half of NYC's hardware is already in place) and will continue through the next several years, with compatible handsets and peripherals hitting retail sometime in mid 2007. Seeing how we're writing this very article from a 3G connection ourselves, all we can say is that it can't come a moment too soon.
Which means that a "world phone" now would have to be 1900/850 for cingular 3G, 1700/2100 for T-mobile USA and an additional 2100 band for Europe, ASIA and everywhere else.
TMO'S 3g
1700/2100 Aws ......!

USA Tmobile User Rejoice "Picture Inside"

Got this from a rep, phone looks cool. Thought I'd share.
cool? o.o ... i have to disagree.. it looks like crap. The front buttons annoy the piss out of me.
What's wrong with the buttons? Other than the color, I like the design, very simplistic.
I would have to agree, I took a crap about 10 mins ago and could have swore I saw exactly that same device floating about an inch under the water. Dont get me wrong, I dont want to kill your excitement over the phone and all. But call HTC they are going to make a US 3g unlocked and it will be released very soon the rep told me so last time I talked to him, he said now that theres a larger market over here they are gonna start forcing the US stores to have the ability to fix the higher end phones and hopefully by 2010 we will have ship dates that are the same if not a week later than overseas. (for unlocked versions that work on our bands). Call a rep, be nice talk to him like a human being and you could find yourself in a 30 to 45 min conversation and a lot of info.
Don't have the business or professional looks compare to the original one :> (Just my opinion)
Glad I did not wait for this phone and get the unlocked one. Phew!!!

ill believe this when i see it. Im waiting for my non-3g unlocked to get here as we speak, but i dont have 3g in my area nor do i plan to use data off Wi-Fi anyway, so i dont care. But if they do start to offer it here, good for them.
Lyian, that's alot of money to spend for a phone you know won't ever have 3G in the states.

Tmo is 1700/2100 and ATT is 850/1900 right? So does this mean the TMo version can do 3g on both networks? I wonder if the ATT version will work the same way?
Yep, the tmobile version will work on both. My guess is that the ATT version will support 850, 1900 and 2100 since these are the most common. tmobile US is the only carrier to start using the 1700 frequency so my guess is that you'll only see phones with this band from tmobile.
the buttons do not look that bad on an actual phone.

*quoted from their site because it sucks, and keeps crashing*
I went into my local store today to ask about the Touch Pro 2. Amazingly the rep I asked about it reached in his pocket and handed it to me. He allowed me to use it for 45 minutes and take as many photos and videos as I wanted, I took a lot. Unfortunately I only had my iPhone on me so the picture quality is not the greatest, but I did my best to get sharp shots. I even remembered the fingerprints on the recent batch and cleaned the phone off for my last few shots. One last thing, I have the original iPhone so I had to install a video app while I was at the store to get the videos, that is why they are low resolution-I figured they are better than nothing!'
The phone is nothing short of amazing and gorgeous in person. All my concerns about color are now gone, I love it! The phone feels like a precision instrument, build quality is off the charts! It also felt amazingly slim in my hand, no concerns about being a brick at all! It was thinner than my iPhone I had with me in its leather case. Absolutely incredible device.

Meh... I'm glad I got the Euro version. The buttons on the front of the TMoe device are sticking up higher off the device and I like the silver keyboard a whole lot better than the black keyboard. Plus the big logo splatted on the front of the device is just an eyesore.
But other than that it is still a very nice device.

I also didnt want to wait for them to get to my carriers, or be forced into getting the higher plan if i wanted it at all, and at the time i ordered it, it didnt look like they were going to make a US 3g Unlocked version.
Also, as my sig states. 3g isn't even in my area, so getting one that worked wouldn't do me any good.
The t-mo version i just dont like. The buttons sticking out are an eye sore andi dont like how they sharpened the edges. on the entire thing.
When I first saw the TMo TP2 in a video, my appreciation of its aesthetics went way up compared to the still pictures I'd seen.
I still think it's the ugliest of the American units, but at least it isn't chromed. With the info that it will work on ATT 3g, I'm almost certain I'll get the Tmo version. I'm about to go TMo prepaid, but I'd like to have the option to come back to ATT. While I certainly don't want data any time soon, I plan to have this phone for LONG time, and things might change a couple of years in, so I at least want the option.
But here's a point I'd like to bring up:
if indeed these specs are correct and the Tmobile version can roam on ATT, that means it can also roam worldwide. Now when we think of Tmobile we only think of the US division. We forget the rest of the world covered by the rest of Tmobile's divisions. ATT folks can roam on those networks and vice versa. Unless say for instance Tmobile UK is getting a piece of the roaming fees they reimburse ATT for their UK customers roaming in the States, then it would make sense for all Rhodiums global Tmobile sells to its customers worldwide to have the same exact radio config as the Tmobile USA ones. It would also make sense for HTC to build 1 version of the phone with all radios present then based on carrier exclusivity disable or enable them as needed via ROM.
Which would mean, once we get a ROM dump of a Tmobile USA phone, that could potentially be the stepping stone in enabling all of the frequencies in a stock Rhodium and/or carrier flavors of the device.
This is purely speculative of course...
I'm pretty sure the 850/1900MHz frequencies listed on those specs are part of the GSM bands it will cover, as it has Quad-band GSM, and not part of the 3G frequencies it will use.
You're right, but the specs sheet doesn't differentiate between the bands.
Release date being pushed back

Bad news for you T-Mobile fans waiting patiently for the HTC Touch Pro 2. TmoNews is citing an anonymous source in saying that release has been moved from July 22 to Aug. 12. Hey, you've waited this long. What's a couple more weeks?
TMN is still going with the July 8 launch date for the Dash 3G, as well as the $170 price point (ouch!) with a two-year contract.
WTF!

Yeah, the Telus and apparently Verizon Wireless phones have 3.5mm jacks. And of course VW forces you to get a data plan for all new smartphones..

according to the Bestbuy Ad it is the i9250m or HSI925BR
Since it's for Bell and Virigin in Canada, it can only possibly be the GSM/HSPA+ version. The CDMA/LTE model is specific to Verizon and won't work for anyone else.
i can almost bet damn Bell will not sell those phones without a contract like Telus / Rogers did with launch phones
Yep... no chance you'll get it off contract, pretty sure of that lol.

Hopefully some Canadian friends will find out for us if this thing has microSD slot, because Samsung Ca website list that it does, but BestBuy Ca website doesn't say so.
I just got back from bell and put my $50.00 deposit and yes there are selling the phone outright. $649.00 and it's 16gb..
Does anybody know if the Canada version will have Tmobile USA 3G/4G bands? I'm thinking it may be cheaper overall to buy the Canada version then it would the UK/International version.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda premium
Base on Samsung and BestBuy Canadian site, it do support the 1700 and 2100 HSPA bands.

I'm using the phone right now. There's no external memory slots.
I talked to Bell about 2 days ago, you have to be already a Bell customer or a new customer on a new contract, to buy. They will not sell outright at least for the first month of sales.

I'm planning on buying on Thursday and using my Telus SIM. I don't mind buying a 30 Day for $30 to get it a month early. I'm already paying $649.99 plus taxes for the phone. What's $30 after that?
What I am hearing is some confusion as to whether Bell is locking the phones. I thought that was just them assuming, until I heard that some UK carriers had locked them too. Has anyone heard anything definite about locked/unlocked?
I'm gonna guess they'll be unlocked but I have no solid information, just using the Nexus S last year as a proxy (was never sold locked in Canada despite what the carriers said).
Also it might be easier to get it from Virgin Mobile if you want to just buy it outright, which is what I'll try - their supertab or whatever dumb thing they call it then just cancel immediately after.
why cant verizon make ad like that and post it on their website ughhh i am getting sick of verizon
i wouldn't be worried about the SIM lock
you can always go online to have it unlocked
heck even just across the street inside Eaton Center lower level there's a cell phone kiosk there that does unlocking
I hope that's not the case. I'd much rather get it from Canada than from across the pond.
They won't be locked.
If you buy if from Futureshop or Best Buy you will be able to buy it outright. If you go to a Bell store they won't let you buy it without signing up for at least one month of service.

Probably another 35 or so for "activation fee" if you do that. I think they only waive the fee for new contracts.

T-Mobile is merging with MetroPCS!!

Well, turns out that rumors of a MetroPCS and T-Mobile merger weren't completely off base. While we wouldn't expect Deutsche Telekom to announce the sale of its US property any time soon, the German giant has confirmed that its holding talks with America's sixth largest mobile operator to combine the two networks. The prospective deal would involve combining the two into a single entity, with Deutsche Telekom as the majority shareholder. Of course there are significant obstacles in the way, including divergent network technologies and distinctly different marketing strategies. This is, of course, just the latest scene in the ongoing piece of corporate theater that almost saw the struggling magenta carrier absorbed by AT&T. We'll of course be following closely to see if such a move would sit a little better with government regulators. The complete statement from Deutsche Telekom confirming the talks is after the break.

Thoughts???
From Bloomberg
T-Mobile USA, with 33.2 million customers at the end of June, or a third of each of market leaders Verizon Wireless and AT&T, is seeking to stem client losses it has suffered partly because it doesn’t have the rights to sell Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s iPhone.
A combination with Richardson, Texas-based MetroPCS would give T-Mobile USA, with its headquarters in Bellevue, Washington, an additional 9.3 million prepaid customers.
T-Mobile USA, the fourth-largest U.S. carrier, has lost 2.76 million contract customers, or more than 10 percent of its subscriber base, in the eight quarters through June.
Shares of MetroPCS were up 18 percent at $13.54 as of 12:32 p.m. in New York, giving the company a market value of $4.9 billion. Deutsche Telekom closed 1.3 percent higher on the Frankfurt exchange, after surging as much as 4.4 percent. The former German phone monopoly has a market capitalization of 42.1 billion euros ($54.5 billion). Sprint Nextel slumped as much as 7.1 percent in New York.
They gonna merge for 1 year thats what my boss told me ....
Ironically I had JUST heard at work today from someone that late October MetroPCS would be selling the SGS3. I figured he had no idea what he was talking about. About 30 minutes later, I saw this posted on Facebook by Androidandme.

Ironically I had JUST heard at work today from someone that late October MetroPCS would be selling the SGS3. I figured he had no idea what he was talking about. About 30 minutes later, I saw this posted on Facebook by Androidandme.

Might explain why the MetroPCS store near my location closed! Drove by saw their sigh was upside down and saw that the store was gutted out!

Couple of weeks ago my boss had a meeting regarding about the GS3 LTE they gonna relase it somewhere before the year is over ...
Makes sense for T-Mobile for a couple of reasons.
1. MetroPCS has quite a bit of PCS (1900 MHz) and AWS (1700 MHz) spectrum, both which are needed by T-Mobile now, especially with the refarming and imminent LTE roll out.
2. MetroPCS' customers are all prepaid, so T-Mobile can eventually wean them off of CDMA phones.
3. MetroPCS has already begun rolling out their LTE network, so it will give T-Mobile a nice boost.
4. Gives T-Mobile about 10 million more customers, something they desperately needed.
Nice to see DT is trying their best to improve T-Mobile and make them competitive. Sad to say (being an Android fan), but the next logical step would be getting a deal done with Apple for the iPhone.
Might take a while. Antitrust laws can be degrimental to their plans
I don't think antitrust will be a problem, this is a lot different than the AT&T merger. The reasons pointed out ^^^^^ are great ones. I think the nearly 10m new users will help bring more services/quality. Looks like tmo is making the right moves, getting a new CEO and now this. It's definitely bad news for sprint/boost/virgin though. If all 5 carriers ended up under the tmo banner that could be pretty awesome :good: Consolidating to less carriers could be bad or good but I think the added competitive strength and compatibilities to take on Verizon and AT&T would be good in the long run.
News like this always excites me because it shows tmo is making big moves. This is much better than them being acquired by some evil giant
Mergers always bring higher priceslower competition. Nothing to cheer up.
It is a done deal
They are merging
DONE....
http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/03/deutsche-telekom-and-metropcs-boards-approve-t-mobile-merger/
Both companies have approved a deal. They move fast
I think this move will definitely help with the push for LTE so I'm happy.
I am really glad since I love in a Tmobile and metro PCs area

As long as they keep Carly!
I love T-Mobile!

Some new photos about P8000,
Hey guys, what's up, ZI Jin Cheng here and this is the review of the Elephone P8000, Elephone's flagship device. I'm very impressed with this device and the only two reasons why I'm not using it as my daily driver is that it is too big and isn't supported by my carrier.

What would you say: P7000 or P8000?
This one seems to have a worse CPU but better battery life.
Another question: where the f*ck are the speakers of the phone? :S
P.S.: No 4G compatibility for the UK for this one, probably gonna stick to P7000.

Well not for the O2 and giffgaff, which most people have. :/
I was really considering it but this is a turn-off.
Ive ordered one worth a shot after discount code.
looks like it does support the 800mhz o2 4g band in the specs.

Just bought one of these £110, and I have just read on here that is may not support 4G in the UK? I am on Tesco network, what are the chances?

Just checked the specs and It supports 4G: FDD-LTE800/1800/2600MHz which includes 02 and Tesco, and according to Focalprice, it's released on July 2nd 2015

No idea where you got al that completely wrong info from.
Also, EE is the most popular 4G network in the UK, not o2/giff gaff.
The phone supports all 3 different 4G bands used by UK networks.

Check for yourself and see that it does not cover O2/giffgaff.
Secondly, I am confident enough to say that O2 and especially giffgaff is the most popular network (do not know whether 3G or 4G, but that is not the point). It has the lowest tarriff and the goodybags are a bargain, which in turn make it quite desirable. Coverage is also great.
P.S.: I am not advertising giffgaff in any case, I just answered to your queries. I was really considering getting this instead of the P7000 (I still haven't ordered), but I do need the 4G on giffgaff and on my Greek network.
Woaaah, BIG EDIT:
It suddenly registers that giffgaff is going to work on 4G with this phone. Did they just change it or what?
