New 3.1 WiFi/3G kernel from TDR LaunchPad 1.0 OC 1.6 GHz - Xoom Android Development

This is not my work; I am just placing it here so it can have its own thread. I have installed it on my xoom and it works flawlessly, enjoy!
1. As always make a back up before you do anything!
2. You must have working SDsupport to use this
2A. As a reminder you must be unlocked and rooted!
Install Instructions:
There are a few different ways to do this-
Option 1
1) Download ROM Manager (Free or Paid)
2) Download the zip from the link below
3) Move zip to your external SD card
A- Using a file explorer ( ex. Root Explorer), copy and paste the .zip file to your external sdcard (/sdcard/external)
OR
B- Put the zip on your SD card using your PC
4) Open Rom manager
5) Press the second button (Reboot Recovery)
Xoom will boot into recovery
6) Use volume rocker to select install zip from sdcard (Press power button to confirm)
7) Use volume rocker to select choose zip from sdcard
8) Select the zip file placed on the sdcard
9) Select yes
Xoom will flash file and put you back onto recovery screen
10) Select Reboot
11) Sit back and bask in the glory
Option 2
If anyone is having problems loading or installing this kernel to the root directory so it can be seen in clockwork mod do this:
boot into clockwork recovery by using quickboot or when you turn your xoom on quickly press the volume down rocker and it should ask whether you want to load android recovery then press volume down again and clockwork recovery should load.
In clockwork recovery go down to mounts/storage, then mount USB storage and click that and wait, in a min or so your computer should recognize the xoom and bring up the root directory, from there load the kernel on that root and click "go back" twice to the main menu and install the kernel using the install zip from sdcard/choose zip from sd card option. You can also extract boot.img from the zip file and flash using fastboot from your PC.
For those that want the most up to date info go here +Source can be found on Github- https://github.com/TDR/Xoom
Updated with new "c1" version
updated with the new 3g "D" kernel check it out
Updated with new Launchpad 3.1 Kernel and flashable zip for tun.ko support for those that want openVPN functions
Heard insane Mflops (67-69) and Quadrant results (4200 and over)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope that helps and if it has hit the thanks button

Yeah this thing is xooming on wifi! I talked to TDR and he is working on a fix for 3G but while I had this on my xoom it was screaming! Will report back when he has a fix! But for now I am tempted to leave my 3g xoom on wifi LOL!

From the TDR thread over at AndroidCentral:
This is forked from AOSP, but with some features like for micro SD support borrowed from Tiamat The kernel is configured differently, but everything you'd expect from Tiamat should be present (well, except for tun.ko) including the 1.504GHz clock speed.

yes, the sdcard works for me.

K, not working for me but it's not so important

awesome! Working well. 3713! Highest I've had yet.

Working great for me,

Working great for me, 3987, fastest ever for me!!!! You rock!!!!

This works great on 3g Xoom as well. I've been running since last night with no problems OTHER than loosing 3g.

about to install this, will report back momentarily...
Works like a charm, no issues THANKS ALL

installed this late last night. sdcard is working for me. so far it's given me the highest quadrant scores and high linpack scores. every thing on the xoom seems to run a lot faster then before, even moreso then when i was on tiamat, but that's just my opinion.
4000+ on quadrant at 1.5ghz
62.5 on linpack
ran it on 1.5ghz for about three hours last night without a hitch but the xoom was getting a bit warm. running it on 1.4ghz as a daily driver.

Working great on my WIFI Xoom!

Hi, to use screenshot er properly, remove toasts for superuser or increase delay time!

Flashed and running well thx.

Well since I don't use my 3g, I should be fine, eh

JP3 Lag Fix- ext3 partition via script = 1610 quadrant

This is early, hacky, and built from the work of the guys on the Vibrant forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739647
anomalous3 figured out that "there was only one thing running as root that could safely be replaced; the boot logo player. So, all this does is replace the boot logo player with a script that calls userinit.sh from /data/local and then calls the (now renamed) bootlogo player for those of you who want that nifty startup screen"
What this does is allows the phone to mount an ext3 partition on boot so we can have a lag fix on JP3. I'm getting 1610 on quadrant and it's pretty stable. Please someone improve this!! shaunm89 and I just hacked this together from other's work.
Directions:
1.) Create an EXT3 partition on your external SD card of 2gb. It should be the second partition after the fat32 partition
2.) Flash Modaco's pre-rooted JP3 through Odin: http://android.modaco.com/content/s...insecure-boot-clockworkmod-recovery-for-odin/
3.) Boot the phone up. Open market and install Root Explorer (costs $) and Busybox. Update busybox
4.) Download these files: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ONGUDAIJ
Copy them across to the SD card. Move playlogos1 and playlogosnow to /system/bin. Move userinit.sh to /data/local. Use root explorer to set permissions read (all 3) write (user only) execute (all 3). 0755 for those who know linux. You can use adb to push if you wanna get fancy.
5.) Reboot. Use root explorer to see if /sd-ext exists, and if so, whether /sd-ext/data and /sd-ext/dalvik-cache exist. If so it worked! If not, reboot again and then check.
That's it. Maybe someone can package this into an update.zip, maybe someone can take it and make it more stable and even faster (ext4 for example)
great! hope we could find an easier way
Sent from my GT-I9000
Is it a must to get the pre-rooted version of firmware? However using the original SP3 then root by myself?
On the other hand, I think I will modify your init.rc as I would rather to do all the moving by myself
Great job, hope we can get EXT4 soon.
In step 4, " Move userinit.sh to /local/data" should be data/local. Quadrant benchmark 1700.
seems like the script is calling busybox, but is it necessary to use root explorer. Could one substitute root explorer with adb?
I assume root explorer is just to do things adb can do, but locally on the device instead of attached via USB.
I tried this and it and i can see sd-ext and the subfolders but is this all we need to do?
is /data/data linked to the sdcard?
I am asking because i tried to reboot the phone without the sdcard in it and i can still see all my apps and everything is working fine.
Thoughts?
Also there is an error in section 4 of your instructions. there is no /local/data, it is /data/local.
Also playlogos1 and playlogosnow files needs to be renamed with a capital P for this to work.
No need to install root explorer if you can use adb to push the files. I just wasn't sure how to use adb to push to those directories.
I fixed the other mistake, thanks
This is not ideal but gets the job done. I'm hoping you guys can make it better!
Are you able to download anything from the market after doing this?
My market is just stuck on "starting download" and that's it.

Protected apps don't show but i've been able to get all my other purchased and free apps installed and running fine.
Strange.
I'll flash again and try again.
Yea i don't know.
The market will download some and won't others.
Also my Quadrant test is getting stuck at 3/4 stage of the I/O test so it might be my SDCard which sucks.
I used a 16GB SanDik class 4 card.

sandisk are one of the best cards you can get, kingston are known to get stuck at this stage, are you sure you don't have a fake sandisk card?
anyway if you leave it running after about 10 minutes quadrant will finish and still give you a massive score of over 1500.. just shows how reliable the quadrant scores are .
does it mean that quadrant is good but speed isnt?
Tried this fix on my JP3 but no luck. I don't get these folders.
Maybe it must be MoDaCo?
If I manually execute the script I get these folders, but after reboot they are gone.
Pretty new to this maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Also happened to me initially. /sd-ext won't show up or if it does, it doesn't contain the correct folders though it is listed when you run 'mount'. Laggy with Quadrant result at 975.
So, went back and reformatted SD w/Fat32 then EXT3, cleared cache/data, re-flashed Modaco's JP3, installed the latest Busybox, copied files per OP and I finally got it working after a couple of re-boots (3, i think). It is running smooth so far w/quadrant 1622. GPS seems to be getting locks on SATs quickly but you still can't get to LBSTest via the keypad. Still can't write to the external sd when mounted/shared to PC.
Also tried JAC's work (see this thread: [KERNEL/RECOVERY] Vibrant EXT2/3/4 with init.d support) since it has the nifty feature allowing user to put startup scripts on boot up. I flashed his kernel but i got stuck on the 'Vibrant' boot screen. anyways, will give it another try later.

Hi,
Thank you so much. This is the best nand sense rom that i have come across so far. I love that you decided to bundle Data2EXT with Stock Desire.
Aside from some wakeup lag (bearable), I haven't been able to find any problems.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks
Mostly, i dont have lag on power, though it seems to be a common Sense build issue, anyway i did put some kernel updates on post #3.
I used all the day my build with SetCpu @ 1190 without problem and lags and battery is fine, worth a try .
Check in first post what radio i'm using, maybe changing it can help.

build looks nice - this is my second nand flash both desire based.
The first worked perfectly and then i installed yours so i could get the sd memory but now im finding that alot of the apps that previously worked no longer do and i have also lost contacts.
The previous build was lightning fast whereas this seems to have a slight lag.
Do you think i have done something wrong? And should i download those 2 updates
Which build you was using?
Looking at your reply i suppose that you was using a non Data2Ext build, so it is normal:
_ Loosing App and Data if not a previous backup with Titanium backup,Mybackup,...
_A little lag, because Data are on SD card.

No, it wasnt a d2ext build (DFT's Desire build)
I guess you are right and i should expect lag etc
Am i right to assume that the apps that i find that arent working are doing so because they dont support a2sd? or should they 'believe' that they are on the rom?
I find that a large number of them, when i try to load them, just flash up the screen asking me to force close them.
Basic apps that should always run like Lookout security (worked previously) but only works intermittently now and i keep having to register apps such as the Android Market.
Also i cant seem to save contacts.
I dont know if there are apps that doesn't support a2sd but i just gave a try to Lookout Security and it does work as expected and i also can save contacts without any problem.
My guess is that you have something wrong with your SD card partition, read again the Readme.txt for "how to" partition it and before flash again the build, give a wipe from Clockworkmod menu.

CWM NEOFroyo v0.1 fastest build yet (updated8/21/11))

This is a complete package just unzip folder on sd card.
Here is original thread by neopeek
people having wifi problems check the original thread they have a fix
This is the CWM 1.9 thread wich is included in folder already
Using starfox test kernel from XDA (Rhodium only)
EDIT: per starfox dont use test kernels use his new vanilla stable kernel
GAPPS already included.
Im not a dev, just put stuff together credit goes to all authors just posting here to spread the word
DOWNLOAD
Sure, I'll bite. I've got an extra micro-sd card here. What's the worst that could happen?
It's a pretty fast build, I tried it on Neopeeks site.
It is MDPI, so the look of it isn't quite as crisp... (you can see what I mean by the notification bar 3g, etc...lower resolution basically) but I was impressed by the speed. All the animations, etc are disabled by default and I believe that's Zeam that is the default launcher... it is quite snappy out of the box.
what tweaks you did?
no tweaks just put it together
This version is the fastest thing I've tried (probably due to mdpi-gapps), but I have two major issues.
1) Wifi will sometimes refuse to turn on, saying wifi error on the check box. It must be related to tethering and hotspot settings, because after I mess with these I get an instant reboot.
2) Camera is tremendously unstable. Most of the times it crashes bringing down the entire OS or if I am lucky it will crash the camera app and refuse to start again until a reboot.
Of course there are random hiccups here and there (like most builds), but it is quite close replacing WM for every day usage.

This is actually not that unusual... I would get this on my epic4g... which is an android phone .
If you don't mind, please use the vanilla kernel that I posted instead of the testing kernel. While I don't mind that it is being bundled, the [Test] kernel was never meant to be used for long term, and is liable to include stuff that is unstable and/or changed on my whim. The vanilla kernel contains some of the tweaks that I consider to be stable and is based on known autobuild releases+supports all devices. Thanks.

There's nothing stopping you from doing that.
Including testing stuff into a public build is never a good idea. I wouldn't appreciate anything I distribute for testing to be put into a build. It's meant for testing, so anyone that installs/uses it should know full well what they're getting into. Placing it into a build circumvents that, and everyone ends up using it unknowingly.

Can't get CWM working
Hey guys,
I must be doing something wrong, but don't know what.
I just can't get CWM running on my TP2. I followed all the instructions precisely, got into CWM once, even flashed the ROM from SD card, but can't do it again.
I even reflashed my device, Re did the entire SD card but just can't get in to CWM.
Upon booting Haret, I press volume down, but the screen just gets stuck there and doesn't move forward. Please help, I'm trying to flash NeoFroyo 0.1

Partition 1: 6.4 GB - FAT32
Partition 2: System - 300 MB - EXT2
Partition 1: Data - 300 MB - EXT2
Partition 1: Cache - 300 MB - EXT2
I put the npkboot folder with startup for RHOD100 on the SD Card (Root) and the NeoFroyo Zip also on the root.
Plus, I also put the contents of the npkboot folder on root of the phone. (Not the folder npkboot)
Run Haret from SD Card through File Explorer & press Volume Down - Result: Frozen Screen!!!

I'm a little confused with what you did.
Basically just unzip his folder you downloaded and then move the Entire npkboot folder to the root of ur sd card.
So there will be nothing on your sd card except the folder. Inside that folder will be everything just as you unzipped it. So for example haret would be at "Sdcard/npkboot/haret.exe". Then just switch/edit the startup.txt in the npkboot folder for your phone and boot into CWM.
You don't need to move anything outside of his npkboot folder that you unzipped.

- update.zip modified to work on 4EXT Touch Recovery (ui disable)
Tested so far off of 4EXT Touch Recovery 1.0.0.5 RC5
What doesn't work and probably will never work unless someone makes new kernel modules for 2.6.35.10 (ie: the .ko files can be placed in the BootManager folder, and then have the init.d scripts edited to load those modules, but thus far none of them have worked for me because they were not built for that exact kernel, I don't know how to compile modules etc).
- Wifi [won't turn on]
- Bluetooth [won't turn on]
- everything else he mentioned in his first post regarding adb/etc
Made this as a new thread because his is quite stale, and catherall hasn't been seen in like forever. And kind of hoping that with the new progress maybe someone will take the time to write up some new gingerbread drivers for this purpose.
If I had the knowledge I would have ported an extremely lightweight Gingerbread Rom to it to be used as sort of a 'emergency-droid' rom, and recompiled kernel modules so that wifi/etc would work.
Instructions
Download the zip, unpack, copy BootManager and update.zip [zip can be renamed] to the SD card. Boot into recovery mode, run the update.zip to start up CyanogenMod 7.1 form the SD Card. (The original README is in the zip)
When you're in for the first time you'll notice the usual Google Apps setup screen, but it'll be in german. To change the language:
Press "Setup abschliben"
Press "Sprache ändern", select appropriate language
Continue the Google Apps setup as usual
It is advised that you do not allow it to automatically let it restore/install your apps as there will be no wifi connectivity and would be done over your data connectivity.
Download Boot_From_SD_wPlay.zip (~135MB)
md5sum : a352017b37bb546ffe0327bbe78304fe
Video from when I was first playing with it (after I put the 4EXT code in, but before I added gapps).

You should be able to modify the the image sizes with BootManager (from the market).... as the free version doesn't see 'Rom8' (which this is mounted), you would have to copy the contents of BootManager/Rom8 to BootManager/Rom1, adjust the image size to 1gb or whatever you wanted... then boot to cwm/4ext mount usb, and use your pc to copy the contents of Rom1 to Rom8 (keep a copy of the original Rom8 somewhere as a backup if it fails)
Never tried it, but it works in my head!
Hope it helps.
Is there anyway to make this permanent so that every time i turn on or reboot the phone, it boots from SD card ?
I use
fastboot boot boot.img
from cmd and after that wifi works and bluetooth works in case anyone is interested

This is unlikely without also writing some kind of bootloader on the internal memory to launch from the SD... which of course would require that the internal memory were not in some way damaged. So kind of a catch-22 to what you're asking. Shouldn't be using SD booting as a permanent solution, it's more like a way of still being able to do *some* things while you work out on getting the phone replaced.
And here I thought you and all your work was gone, nice to see ya around kbeezie!

V4A Aroma Installer with neon enable optional convolver pack [MM updated Sept.5.2016

I take no credit for this amazing equalizer. All credits go to @zhuhang and the people from his thread for the convolvers.
If you don't know what V4A is check here for more details.
But basically it's an audiophiles dream that can cause serious hearing loss and such audio enjoyment at the same time!
The Zip has all the files included to enable "neon" support for convolvers, which are also included.
The feedback I've received so far is 100% success.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1) DOWNLOAD THE ZIP
2) FLASH IN RECOVERY (no need to uninstall if you already have viper installed)
3) open the app and you will be prompted to install the drivers. (I always choose the top one, although it does consume more batter, we'll worth it)
The EQ can be either super simple with just the basic adjustments or can get really technical in "expert" mode.
To activate the convolvers hit the 3 dots in the top right and click click the "ui settings" and change it to expert
Current version Download and discussion starts here
UPDATE VERSION 2.4.0.1 Neon Enabled + Convolvers
If using my previous zip version a simple flash of the new zip will update your V4A.
If you are running any version other than the one in my previous zip you will need to follow the steps below to ensure a smooth update to 2.4.0.1.
1) uninstall current driver from Viper by selecting the option is the app or use file manager and delete "libv4a_fx_ics.so" from system/lib/soundfx.
2) wipe data app with application manager or TiBackup
3) uninstall your current V4A
4) Flash to new zip
5) boot up and enjoy
6) hit the thanks button.
old version
Viper4Android neon enabled including convolvers
Enjoy!
Not working for me on MM rom. Says "Conflicted" in status.
Gonna try method from the old thread as it worked for me before.
Thanks for the effort anyway ?

Working perfectly on my 925F - thanks man!!
Hello everyone, I have followed all the instructions but the only difference is that I downloaded and installed manually com.vipercn.viper4android_v2_2.4.0.1_HiAppHere_com.apk file. Then for the rest all went to fruition right away. Thanks stangdriver44 for the support.

Yep. I guess this is what was wrong when I tried to install it.

+1
To fix the empty directory error (which has happened to me on G925FXXU3DPAD), simply copy all the convolver .irs and .wav files from whereever you see them to /data/media/legacy/ViPER4Android/Kernel/ with a root browser, and you will notice the directory is indeed empty if it exists at all (at least it was in my case). I believe that with the MM changes to how the internal SD is mounted (again), V4A's old location check fails, sorta.
Hope this helps!
