[Q] root? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Is there root?

None confirmed but more than likely the international sgs2 root method will work or some generic one

Phone hasn't been released yet, how could there be root? Only reviewers have access to the phones.

I want root for backup purposes!

Does anyone have any idea if the bootloader is locked and or encrypted? Radio updates will be key for this phone.

Root shouldn't be far behind the release ...
As for if it's unlocked i Believe so dude ... we shouldn't have problems in that area ...

I have always thought Samsung was the most friendly too the bootloader thing, I can't remember hearing of one that was locked/encrypted.

This thing will be rooted by launch day for sure... I hope

got mine today. Guy at Sprint store let me have it early. none of the Galaxy S II variants have locked bootloaders. The model number and kernel is different than the European ones so I assume someone will have to put out a US Sprint kernel with Superuser and busybox. Hopefully we can use ODIn ans superoneclick to root like the overseas ones.

I would root mine, but I need the EG30.md5 first so I can reflash it back.

Wrong. What about free wifi tethering? I think you can root but do not need to run a custom rom, just run the stock rom.

So anyone having battery drain problems its probably because of this file taxing the CPU at 100%. All I did was rename it to include .bak and removed the execute permission. Phone is now sleeping and virtually no lag. All that urks me now is that wifi direct is disabled in this build.

Android version 4.0.4/ Software number T989UVLI1
Approved 11/5/12
Improvements
Pinch & Zoom backend changes – No visible user changes
Prerequisites
You cannot check for Samsung software updates or download this software. T-Mobile will not push this as an OTA, because it does not offer new benefits.
This software is only on a newly purchased or exchanged devices.
This software was created for new devices only in order to meet a Samsung requirement for all carriers.
Both software numbers T989UVLH1, T989UVLDE and T989UVLI1 are the most updated software available.

Well... I just flashed CM10 stable. IMO The stock ROM wasn`t worth it. There was no noticeable change from UVLH1 that I saw. In fact I thought it ran a bit worse. Maybe it was all the bloat. But the radio I haven`t changed so we can still rip that bad boy out. Fullflex still has his stock UVLI1 installation intact though.

I disagree here. I had an HTC thunderbolt before the S4 and it took them forever to get 4.0 eventhough every similar phone already had it on other carriers.
With all the custom ROMs out, really? A *lack* of an update is reason to switch carriers?
Obviously, I'm not putting enough weight on my ROM when picking a carrier.

Knox will bring some difficulties in terms of rooting, right? I'm hoping not but I have a feeling it will.
Knox and seLinux will make our lives more difficult. Confirmed. They've been dealing with it in the S4 forums and now the Note3 as well.
There are ways around as I understand, but no telling if they'll work on ours.

OTA/Kies would be for normal unrooted stock users on 4.1.2
The majority of us will be waiting for someone to extract 4.3 and make a custom flashable ROM, it's been like this for all of the major updates we've had haha.
