[SGH-T989] Telus/T-Mobile Galaxy SII (Hercules) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Just wondering if the GS2X will be getting it's own section or if will be amalgamated into this section as well? The hardware is different so I'm assuming it will get it's own. Next question is when will it happen? After launch? The device has been officially announced.

the Admins are still deciding
it will depend on the amount of users petitioning for it, and developers willing to code for this new model
Officially it's still a Galaxy S II, so chances are it will be amalgamated into this forum

It's got a totally different radio and processor and none of the ROMs will be common. The Sprint version got its own forum so why wouldn't a phone that's even more different?

I wonder if it will use a different audio chip then the yamaha?

i don't really mind the audio chip as long as it provide good music

I guess it doesn't really matter if they don't change the chip, I'd just prefer to not hear the CPU noise when listening with headphones using the headphone jack; so maybe better shielding.
When I use the i9100 in my car it works great but it's the official vehicle dock with an external DAC/amp so it sounds great, no noise at all.

It would be nice to know what the plan is so those of us who want to get the questions or ideas going don't bomb this section if not necessary.

Must-Have Features on your Next Phone?

Plain and simple. List what you look for in a Phone, and go from there. I'll begin with what I want.
Features I believe I Must-Have:
1GB Ram or +
2.0 MP Front Facing Camera or +
8 MP or better, but must be more awesome than Epic's 5MP.
Dual-LED Flash
Quad-Core or +
GPU, Dual-GPU if possible. Must be Nvidia.
720P HD Res or better.
Mini-HDMI to HDMI out.
LTE-Ready
NFC Chip
Minimum ICS, JellyBean is prefferred.
Must be Samsung Branded.
Carriers I prefer it to be in this Order:
AT&T, Verizon, Sprint.
Equivalent or better to Epic's Screen in quality.
A keyboard will ALWAYS be a PLUS for me, but not a deal-breaker if it has everything else I ask for.
Notice I didn't put 3D, I don't think i'd want a phone that'll give me headaches more than what phones already give to a human.
EDIT: Note Bene, Mods, I was uncertain where this thread was best suited, as its questioning everyone, hence, Q&A, but its not tailored to me, but addressed to all in General. Your call if you want to move it. Because I like to move-it, move-it.

This is a pointless thread and there's no question and this is pretty much obvious if not overkill.
Not to be harsh but this is all implied no need for a thread.
• Gives me the ability of flight
• Can print money
• Grants wishes.
Keyboard or gtfo

Not really, what you could do if its pointless is gtfo and don't bother replying. Or if its all "implied" you could of just quoted and said you agreed.
What I wanted was seeing what my fellow epic community want as individuals, not as a group. Some love sense, some are done with samsung. Some don't even want a keyboard. So no, it isn't all implied. I could feed you plenty of pointless threads to questions that have answers STICKIED. So don't bash. I rather hear what everyone else is looking into, rather than answering your past 20+ "pointless" topic questions under your profile. If you look at my profile, you'll realize I'm not a leech who is all about questions, but I also like to GIVE and HELP others, sorry if you're too tunnel-visioned to see that.

Ohh goodie nice comeback. Again if you post a thread under the QnA Forum then ask a question and if you don't want Samsung or any thing of it, why bother. Besides that, i do help believe it or not, and not to mention i actually was asking QUESTIONS.

You're taking the name of the thread to literally... the question is clearly what are the must have features for your next phone... just because its not in question form doesn't mean its not a question... op just put a question mark at the end of the title to resolve this for the people who need it to be in question form to realise it is a question....
Anyways....
Keyboard is a must
Removable sd is a must
Don't care about dual or quad-core cuz my single core epic runs everything just fine...
1000 mhz out of the box at least (most phones are this or more now right?)
I love samsung products so it must be a samsung unless something else blows my mind! (Defenitely not htc, won't deal with the locked bootloader)
4.5 inch screen would be nice and must be amoled or super amoled! After looking at the epics screen its hard to go to a lesser quality!
That's about it...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
must have a faster processor then the epic.
must have video out
ICS or Jellybean
NFC Chip
I think my next phone is going to be the new Nexus.
I really want to try out Google Wallet with the NFC chip.
OP,
why do u want the NFC chip, is it just because of of Google Wallet or is there another feature the chip can do that I dont know about??
I was looking around youtube last night and saw a projector phone. Yes, a projector phone. I just found out one released in America a few years ago but didnt catch on. How the hell could you NOT want a projector phone? This is amazing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgnADSuF8MA (good luck fitting this in your pocket. Im guessing the average battery life for this thing is 3 hours.)
Flast I get that but my point is all these posts all the thoughts its implied what I want and what you want could be the same or different but its implied that we all want something better I just don't see the point for a thread is all?

HDMI out for sure.
An X-ray device would be nice too. Then someone could make an app for tracking that dime and penny as they goes through my daughter's digestive system.
Infrared would be nice. Could then make a universal remonster ...er, I mean remote app.
FM transmitor.
And the projector. Yeah.
sent from my secret underground bunker
720p 4.5" super duper amoled +47 screen
Any simple way to hd output to a screen.
1080p video recording. 8mp+ camera with a quality lense.
And night vision for the coming zombie apocolypse.

The question is what do people wanna see in their next phone. Quit giving the guy **** for being curious and wanting to compare ideas. He didn't break any forum rules and I for one see no "pointless" or "implied" value in this thread.

features are nice but
I'd love to have all those features, but I'd much rather prefer a phone that the battery will last all day and by a company who doesn't support it for half a year and then release a new one. This is > than all those super features.

Galaxy Nexus - AT&T

https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=galaxy_nexus_hspa
I know there's GSM support for it. I'm unfamiliar with AOSP devices. Will there be, or is there good developer support for the device when used with AT&T? I'm coming from a SGS 2 SkyRocket.
If you're not using the GSM version on AT&T there's probably no reason for you to be a troll.
Have you seriously not read a thread or news article in the last 24 hours?
That's not an AT&T Galaxy Nexus. Its an unlocked i9250 GSM model. Works on AT&T, T-Mobile, or any GSM carrier in the US/World. Its the same (save for pre-installed Google Wallet) as the European model that's been sold for the last 5+ months.
Seriously?
Google Officially Selling Galaxy Nexus GSM in USA via Play Store ($399)
On the first page of this forum.
I understand that... The phone will work on AT&T. Never said AT&T is selling it. FFS I linked to the Google page for it.
I just seen this today. The question is: is it worth it? If there's not going to be any developers working on it. It's probably not worth it to me. I'd probably just get the SGS 3.

Please just leave this thread and go join the other ones. You clearly have not read about the device, because it is the EXACT SAME as the other ones. It won't be a special phone that requires different ROMs or development. The phone has been on sale for over 5 months.

No, we're not trolls, we're just tired of people that are uninformed creating irrelevant, duplicate threads before searching or even reading the titles of the threads on the first page of the forum.
Obviously this phone has developer support, it's a Nexus. It doesn't matter what freaking SIM card you put in the back of it, its still the same device. GSM device support is GSM device support. Read. Please!

FFS ppl the OP was just asking a question. Yes the GN sold by Google is supported by AOSP and will have [email protected]!# ton of ROM and development going for a long time
Per your suggestion I've looked through the last 5 pages and there's a couple that's semi similar to mine. The official announcement: which I could try to start a conversation there and it get lost in the general chatter about it, and another question like mine but about the battery. I could hijack his thread. That would be cool? Instead of trolling, which most of the replies have been, you could have said something like "I seen a post earlier that might help out". The replies have been absolute crap. If you're tired of seeing it ignore it.
I'm Never used an AOSP device, or an international device. Before I bought it I thought I would come over kick up a conversation with some people that have a GN and ask some questions. General stuff about development on it. Is there a difference between this one and the international version.
The way you people responded to someone that has never been in this specific device's forum, or messed with any variant of the device before is not right.

Thank you!! I'll talk to you.
Thinking about buying it. Never used or paid much attention to AOSP devices because AT&T doesn't sell them. Are there any catches coming from Non-AOSP devices? I wasn't sure if there's any catches to using the international GSM roms with AT&T. Completely clueless here. I don't necessarily have time to read every post for 10 pages. Looking for a general overview of my questions.
You asked a really obvious question which is why people are responding to you the way they are. The question also doesn't make much sense since it is hard to believe that you this little about this phone. I think you are asking if the Galaxy Nexus works well with AT&T. The answer is yes. It also works well with any GSM network provider. There is good development for this phone, and nothing has to be or will be unique to AT&T.
There's no catches to using this phone with AT&T. Everything works great. Well actually, there are a few catches, I wouldn't get this phone if you were hoping to have:
1. Delayed software updates, or no updates at all
2. Terrible superimposed user interface that is more buggy
3. Lots of bloatware like AT&T Navigator just in case you wanted to pay AT&T for something Google gives for free and does a better job at.
If you are looking for any of those, then yeah, that's the only catch.
Why would I every look into a phone that I can't use? It has nice specs. I can't use it. Close. What's obvious to you isn't so obvious to someone else. Maybe it's all exactly the same as what I'm used to, or maybe there's some stuff you you "just know from experience" that I wouldn't know.
I read your post twice and I have no idea what you were trying to say.

Maybe a better question is: "Do the GSM ROMS work correctly on AT&T without any catches? If there is a catch are the developer pretty quick to help fix, or do the developers ignore AT&T"
I know this is not a primary AT&T device so I know the support is going to be back burner. I just want to know how back burner it is.

This is what I'm saying. You have a very very weak understanding of how this works. Do you really think that there are specific ROMs and tweaks for all of the dozens of carriers people are using this device on? Its an unlocked GSM device. There's no special software needed. You put in your SIM card.
Developers suppor the device. Not the network.

SIII or Optimus G

Hey guys,
It's finally time to upgrade my old Galaxy S1 Epic (please don't laugh lol), I was planning on waiting for news on the new S4 but nothing solid has come out and my Epic was royally messed up from a game of football.....Note to self - don't play football with a phone in your pocket.
I know I'll probably get some bias comments since I'm posting this in the Samsung forums but I'm hoping for some logic as well. I know in terms of technology, the S3 is on the verge of being out of date. The Optimus G (on paper) looks to be an amazing phone but I know that LG's track record on updates as well as community development has always been lacking.
Would you guys get a S3 this late in the game or the Optimus G and hope for the best in terms of support/development? I can't afford to buy the phone outright so I'll be locked into a 2 year contract with Sprint and will be stuck with this phone for the next 2 years. I played with both phones at the store and they're both pretty cool, but I'll admit that when it comes to phones I am kind of a noob and would rather get honest opinions from people who have the phones and might know more about the future hurdles of it.
oh, the S3 is at Amazon Wireless right now for $50 and the LG Optimus is $99....both great deals imo! So I'm going to need to make a decision soon before the sale is over.
Thanks in advanced!
Ill just say this i will never buy an lg phone. This s3 is an amazing device and i have zero complaints about anything regarding this and i have had this since early june.

lame.. why not just don't post or answer his question even if it isn't suppose to be here..
anyways.. I'd vote for the SG3, mostly just because Samsung will at least try to stay up to date.. While LG always seems to fail in the category..
2 things, battery and sdcard
Thanks eveyone! I posted in the other post as well and got an answer there too. I'm going to go with the S3, even though the hardware is older than the Optimus G, I know that the development community behind it is amazeballs. I had the Epic 4G for awhile but since there were great development groups behind it, I was able to happily use the phone for a long time without complaints. I just can't take that gamble with the LG phone....looks great on paper but I don't want to be stuck with stock for 2 years,
I just got off the phone with Bestbuy and they said they'll price match Amazon Wireless so I'm going to pick one up for $50. Woot!

Answer was sent to OP via PM. However, We still gotta play by the rules either way we go. Overall, choice is going to be down to OP to figure out what they would like to do. So, my opinion may not matter..
I said S3 either way. I agree with post above me, non removable battery and lack of SD expansion is HUGE turn off.
I just don't like lg
Also s3 has the 48gb from drop box
I also like having the option of having Odin fix stuff if they go horribly wrong
Also s3 has a super solid dev community
Idk about the optimus g

This is a valid question - on the one hand, it isn't a big deal to handle the occasional misplaced thread... but on the other hand, just answering the question does nothing to help the OP to ensure that he doesn't make the same mistake twice (which will, in turn, make misplaced threads less occasional and more of a problem)
The important part is for all of us to be careful not to attack each other, or to react to such a reminder as if we're being attacked - if we wanted to start a multi-page argument, it would be more effective to bring up debatable matters of opinion than known facts such as forum rules

I see a lot of Roms... Are any 4.1 roms good enough for daily drivers?

I've been reading alot...and... well I'm not sure. I returned my Nexus 4, for various reasons. So I am looking at either the GNII (Note 2), or the GS3.
I am on AT&T btw.
I am mainly wanting a good CM-AOKP rom that will give me stock goodness with all the extra lovely settings. I'd rather not have anything experimental.
Someone told me this phone was just recently unlocked? If he was correct? So am I to assume there are no good daily driver roms?
Can people for god sake stop posting questions in random sections and post in Q&A section?
to be nice an answer your question no one can answer that what fits someone else wont fit you its a trial and error thing, just keep try them until you find the one best suited for you...
Are you looking to buy an at&t version? If yes then this is not the right forum. This is for international GN III. Recently unlocked? You mean verizon GN III bootloaders? If yes then please read more before buying

Before this gets even more nasty...
OP, good luck with your next phone and hope it is exactly what you are looking for
FYI, the only phone getting a ton of development these days is the Nexus..because of its reputation of being open, unlocked and quick with the updates
There are just too many phones being released each year and not enough developers probably because of entitled users yelling at them for not updating quick enough
Also consider Verizon locking up both their Samsung and HTC phones, and AT&T locking down their Sammy phones...these are the biggest US carriers.
All of this contributes to killing Sprint development
