NOTE
Please see the second post for a new Fauxclock built for Team Kang kernels. It's the only currently supported CPU settings app for this kernel.
Voltage Control
You can control it via shell/init.d scripts as follows
[ to over volt ALL frequencies by 25000 uv (microvolts) ]
Code:
echo "+25000" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/vdd_table/vdd_levels
[ to under volt ALL frequencies by 25000 uv (microvolts) ]
Code:
echo "-25000" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/vdd_table/vdd_levels
[ to set a specific frequency (ie 1.18 GHz) with a specific voltage (ie 1.0875 volts) ]
Code:
echo "1188000 1087500" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/vdd_table/vdd_levels
Clock Control
Just about any OC app will work just fine(except system tuner). By default, the kernel sets the max frequency to the highest frequency available. You can change this by adding a few lines to an init.d script (or run commands in a shell).
For instance, setting stock freqs would look like this
Code:
(su if in shell)
echo 1836000 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
Info
This kernel will boot to 1.67GHz with lagfree governor enabled. While there is the ability to run up to 1.83GHz in my opinion it's really not needed. With the changes made this kernel is smooth and fast. Battery life has proven to very close to stock with my usage time in the 20+ hour range. I hope you enjoy it!!
Thanks

FauxClock v0.9
Thanks to romanbb for creating this great app!
Now we can have out cake and eat it too. This app let's you set clock speed and overall VDD voltages. The really cool part is that the processor now works like it's supposed too. You'll notice in FauxClock that the second processor says offline. Well it's supposed to. Now the second cpu only gets powered on when load is high. Once load has stabilized the second cpu goes back offline. Now we can have speed and decent battery life. You'll notice that some bench mark apps will be lower ie CF-Bench. That's because it runs that benchmark with only one core active. Who really cares when your phone is smooth, fast, and lasts all day on a charge!

System Tuner FAQI've been meaning to put this up but haven't had a chance. This FAQ should hold true for any kernel compiled for our phones and the Skyrocket.
When using System Tuner the first thing to do is make sure you can see all running processes in it's task manager. See image below:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

}
Now you're ready to start tweaking the kernel. You see anytime you make a change to the clock speed or governor that both core's come online and stay online. Go back to System Tuner's task manager and select "mpdecision" and kill it. See images below:
Now the second core should be offline and only come back online when needed. Using this method insures that both cores receive the changes you made. Now you won't have one core running lagfree and the other ondemand or a mix match of clock speeds. This really helps the stability of the kernel.
Also note that when you set anything in init.d or at boot to make changes to the kernel settings (ie. voltage, clock speed, or governor) you will have to open System Tuner and kill "mpdecision" to offline the second core.
VoltagesThought I would post the current voltages that I'm running on my phone. These may not work for you so don't set them at boot until you're sure your phone is stable.

Is there a reason this is a separate kernel instead of Jugs 0.4?

Ok im still noob status with kernals. Im on Juggernaut 2.6 now. No mods. May I kindly ask where do I start? I wanna break the ice and try this. Do i just download and flash? Sorry i havent read every kernal thread as i never wanted to dive in yet. But I wanna give this a go. I want 20hrs of batt life too. Lol. Thanks ahead of time for any assistance.

[KERNEL][GB] Pershoot-OC-UV-NEON-FP-SWAP-GOVS-1.708ghz

Admin Edit: Links removed at OP request. I believe they will be available elsewhere. I have always ben very anti-setcpu, but profiles with this kernel really are a must if you want a smooth experience without constant freezing.
This is pershoots source code as of 04/25/2011 with added overclocking patches, all governors available, swap (requested) with a max scaling frequency of 1.708ghz (1708800) YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE THE USB MOUNT ISSUES present in flippy's kernel.
YMMV - Overclocking seems pretty unstable above 1.708 with the current state of the kernel (trust me i tried MANY different voltage variables, different schedulers etc..) that's why 1.8 and 1.9 are not supported, and will not be until they are stable for me again.
DO NOT SCALE ABOVE 1.516 without setting scaling governor to performance, or raising the min cpu frequency as you will experience lockups, setcpu profiles are useful in this situation. screen off profiles should have a MAX frequency of above 768 (this way when the screen goes back on it will ramp to the higher freqency THEN ramp back to the oc'd 1.708 without the jump from 245 causing a freeze) if you want to go with ondemand scaling and want the max at 1.708, you will have the most luck with min at 806 (even then it can and likely will freeze)
Edit: testing screen off profiles, it looks like you can pick whatever you want, currently mine us set to 245 min 368 max. No issues yet.
I have my device set for 368 min 1.708 max performance governor on boot and it hasnt frozen in the last two days. scaling through frequencies, or if the delta between min and max is too high, you may get a kernel panic and a battery pull will be required.
My particular setup (recommended):
on boot - 368 min, 1.708 max performance
screen off - 245 min 806 max ondemand (allows idle speed at 245)
battery < 50% 245 min 806 max ondemand
The same rules basically apply with this OC kernel that applied to flippy's. I'm not responsible for any damage that may result from your use of this kernel. yada yada yada.
you should retain wifi, gps, etc.. if not, flash it again, you did something wrong.
freezes? lockups? lower your clock speed, they shouldnt happen with any more frequency than with pershoots kernel if you stay at 1.516 and below. above that, if you experience a freeze, a last_kmsg wont help, the kernel failed to sync and panicked, there is nothing i can do about that. sorry.
wake-lag? i've gone over that, but here we go again:
generally with oc kernels:
oc+screen on/off animations+brightness > 50% = no wake lag
oc+screen on/off animations+brightness < 50% = wake lag
it isnt ideal, but get a program called screen filter from the market to apply a lesser brightness when above 50% so you dont experience the wake lag.
Enjoy.
There is weirdness with benchmarks, if you've oc'd and you know it should be higher, reset the scaling options in cm settings and try again. It's very weird and i havent put together a full list of what causes the behavior, more as it develops i guess.

Any chance of adding the smartass governor ?
I've read many things about that and nobody never included it in a kernel.
Only in roms.
Your kernel is really good so was wondering
This is awsome! Kernel is running fast and stable. Although i don't clock it all the way up to 1700 i love that i finally can use pershoot kernel with interactive governor.
Thanks very much!

Same here if you don't mind
Don't mind at all, for the person who asked, there is source for the smartass governor, I just need to locate it and merge. I'll look into it today.
Will flash tonight with the latest CM nightly. Thanks
This show promise and potential. Love, love love. Did you ever find the source for the smartass governor?
Found the this on github. It's the smartass source from a kernel for the HTC Shift, should be the same mostly.
Also this governor look interesting, maybe give an alpha release with this one in it for testing? Scary just sounds like a bada$$ name for a governor. It's from Scaryghoul btw, just to give credit.
Thanks for this amazinglarry. I'm gonna test this out for a few days before I can give you some useful feedback.
In the meantime, can I refer you to a kernel in the MT4G section that seems to try to accomplish exactly what you are doing (all available kernels, high overclock, etc.). It has all the source readily available. The link is here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2491887
I'll take a look. Gracias.
Please forgive my ignorance but what might this offer over pershoots kernal? His newest kernal fixed a huge headache I had with wifi and I don't want that headache back. Is it just the addition of higher oc and the added govenators or is there more added as well?
No, just, swap, governors, and overclocking a bit more.
I'm getting instability with the camera and gallery. It either locks up or saves pictures as a black square. Gallery FC's when I try to delete pictures. As far as I recall, this didn't happen with pershoots or stock CM. I'm running 7.0.2 with no profiles, clocked at 245-979 on demand with CM settings, no setcpu. When I can get in front of a computer with adb ill post some logs.

I'm not able to reproduce, camera and gallery are working st 806 and 1.708 on my device, clear pictures, no force closes.
Grab some logs, there should be very little difference in functionality (if any) between this version and the official version of pershoot's kernel, unless he does some magic that isn't in his git, which I highly suspect, seeing as how quadrant scores are a little lower at the same clock speeds with my version and his.
But as far as functions and drivers, you shouldn't have issues.
I'm thinking its something wrong with my setup. I reflashed pershoots kernel, cleared caches, and ran a fix_permission. I no longer have force closes but my camera isn't saving? Ill have to look into it.

Benchmark Scores

This thread is for people to post their benchmark scores.
Please explain:
1.) What ROM/Kernel you are using
2.) What app you used for Benchmarking e.g. CF-Bench / Antutu / Quadrant etc.
3.) What OC/UV settings are in use if any.
Also post a screenshot if possible
Curious to see what scores people are hitting on different ROM/kernel combo's.
I am on Bigxie's v8 rom and his apex kernel with no additional performance settings, here are the results without a fresh reboot;
CF - Bench :
Native: 10895 , Java : 3234 , Overall : 6298
Antutu :
5838
Quadrant :
2057
I rebooted the phone and ran Quadrant again, the score was 1849, then ran again and the score was 2066, Quadrant is a joke I guess Antutu was 5843 after reboot, so, I guess it is more reliable.
Sweet. I am using Android Revolution HD 2.1.3 with Jame Bond kernel at 1.4GHz.
CF Bench total is 7336
Antutu total was 6660
And I don't bother with Quadrant

In any case with that i've posted above always is perfect:smooth, speed, reactive, flyin and...What else

Hi,
It depends on many things...
The kernel first (i never tested the Leankernel,by Imoseyon i suppose)...So the cpu freq/gpu overclock, for me everything is notified, details in kernel/rom threads specified...
Then the rom,the rom does not always the job but...
The governor choice, the min cpu frequence...
The conditions:after reboot, apps running in background (killed/not killed) and the most important i think (exept the kernel) is the cpu temperature...
If you run multiple benchs one after the other ->the cpu heats ->thermal protection->lower scores...
Thats all...For me...Just test,reboot,wait for lower cpu temperature,change min cpu frequence,governor,etc...
In any case this thread is just for benchs...
If your Gnex runs well with your settings (rom+kernel),all is smooth and fast and good battery life for you, whatever the benchs scores...You do not care about this.
It's just a "game" i think
As i always said, for me,all is perfect in term of UI (smooth and fast) and battery life...So i test something else ... the benchmarks

Performance governor

Anyone run this?
The only real reason to run performance governor is for benchmark testing. I wouldn't run it any more than that.

Most use it that way, as for me i use to keep the high end freq set and to keep the cpu from cycling and wasting battery
Example.... i like to run at 800, i set to preformance so the phone will not cycle lower then 800 no matter what.

it might be small but little things add up ........instead of bouncing/cycling up and down from low to high freqs cause it is monitoring the processes/work load even when the phone is not in use. Performance takes the cycling/monitoring of the processes out of the equation and just sets the cpu at the high end.
its weird in set CPU it shows it going to 800mhz instead of staying at 1200mhz
Bug? Glitch?

It could be, I use "System Tuner Pro" and when I select "Performance" it stays at 800, since 800 is what I have my high end set at.
Btw I am running EL29 GB with Gunslinger so that is also something to consider.
Edit: I tried different high end freq on performance 1k/1.2k/1.4k and they all were setting and not fluxing to other fregs.

You've been using SetCPU and now apparently System Tuner Pro. It's possible you may have EX Tweaks installed as well, ROM Toolbox Pro, or Tegrak.
The thing you want to remember, is that any and all of these utilities can set CPU performance and governors, so you want to be sure that if you are testing with any of them, that ALL of the others are disabled (at least the functions that would control CPU).
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not a kernel issue. You might have Stock, but it may have been modified or not compatible w/OC/UC. Try one of Agat's kernels with confirmed working overclock/underclock (0.4.4) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767421
I've been using that with SetCPU and it works well.
Oh - one last point -- do you have any Profiles set up in SetCPU? Because if you do, one of them might be overriding your Performance governor setting on the Main SetCPU screen.

This kernel is only for TW 4.1.x T-mobile/Att ROMS/devices at this time. The whole point for this kernel is to give the user the features wanted from all the other kernels but stay the closest to stock as possible. All the governors and the schedulers are stock and what was found in the source from Samsung. This Kernel is 98% stock and the only changes to the code are listed in the change log. blacknight1114 and I have been testing all night and today. Running very smooth and great battery life! Thanks buddy for giving me a hand testing! This Kernel would even make a great replacement for the stock kernel in all the TW ROMs and developers you have my permission to include it if you wish.

What is fast charge:
This allows one to force AC charging for any charger that is detected as USB (e.g. many car chargers) and pull the full current the charger can support. Without Fast charge, when connected to the computer or even car charger you will very low current causing the charge time to be a lot longer. With fast charge active the current is set to the max allowed (and/or safest) and charging time will reduce greatly. It also provides additional security when connecting to public charging stations because by forcing AC charging, USB/adb data transfers are disabled, protecting your data. When fast charge is active you will not be able to access your data on your device. You will need to turn fast charge off to access them. Hope this helps everyone understand it more.
How to install:

InFamous 4.8.2 ROM and this Kernel... I also use mostly WCDMA as I know this tends to use more battery it also works better for me at work. Yet even on the normal GSM setting it will score that high also...Just a GREAT ROM and GREAT KERNEL .... The ROM is tweaked how Jamison does his thing and nothing else...

Stock is normally (far as I know) set at, Ondemand and cfq then of course clocked at 384min and 1512max....
Sorry trying to type as my Cat is trying to take over the keyboard..LOL ...
Anyone else having trouble getting the min settings to stick after reboot. With trickster mod I set the min to 384 and it keeps going back to 102600 after the phone reboots

After sitting overnight I also noticed ( using CPU Spy) it goes to 918 and 1026 for min... I reset and reboot and it goes back as well...Hmmmm
i just did a restore back to KP 1.2 only because I am off to work and won't have time to check things out...
PS. Also from CPU spy I noticed that it does sleep it just goes back to min of as noted above....
Just FYI using Set CPU
Huh... didn't notice that myself. No biggie, easy fix. Just didn't want to play with the clocking as I wanted to keep that 100% stock. Small adjustment. I should have something up later tonight.

This kernel doesn't seem to recognize my 64GB SD card. Is there a way around that?
EDIT: NVM, gotta reformat to FAT32.
Thanks!
So far it is excellent, although I suggest one small (but significant on battery life) addition: Abyssplug governor (it is Ondemand with hotplugging).

BlueMoon Kernel"... And the moon started to shine in blue again..."
About:
So, i was inactive in Optimus G forums for quite a long time, since i broke my glass on that phone and changed to Nexus 5. But when i found out that our E975 got Marshmallow port, i had to return here. So, i charged this phone and make it even more sweet with latest Android. The problem was, that this phone doesn't have any Marshmallow custom kernels. I used to be a kernel dev in this forum, but i moved on, and i kinda know how failed up my previous projects on this phone were. But now i have a lots of knowledge i didn't have before. So i made another BlueMoon for this device, and i am sharing it now.

I was thinking, and there is too many people to thank. A lot of people motivated me and helped me. The first one was @dadi11 who taught me basics of Android development, so i would like to specially thank him. And to guys who made a kernel this work is based on. And i would like to thank everyone in my commit history, because without those guys, there would be no this kernel today.

Thank u so. Im on android 4.4 now but i will try it on someday android 6.0 is almost stable.
Damn.
No geehrc lollipop to test out?
Excessive consumption battery....Very slow
Let it run through a few battery cycle before commenting on battery life
Dear @Mathew_333 please implement the otg hack. like lollipop bluemoon.
It worked great on lollipop.
& If you were in dormitory with no pc you could find out how useful it can be!
The kernel is working very well, the battery consumption is very good too.
The only "problem" encountered it is that even using Kernel Auditor App, the maximum frequencies do not save, they continue reaching 1728mhz even after i set in 1512mhz.
Until now is the only observation I can do, great job!
(Sorry for the bad inglesh).

Well, i guess i can tell you - i know how useful it is, i am in dormitary with no pc, i just have vecation this week The problem is that i moved to Nexus 5 and there this support is already implemented without any kernel hacks.. I have really a lot of work and i have to oupdate this BlueMoon and the one for Nexus 5, i can promise you update, as soon as i will be able to - And i understand you how you feel without pc haha
@btotta @st4ik The thing with frequency will be fixed in r1.1, stock frequency will be set to 1,5GHz too, so overclock will be optional

In the beginning of the time of my phone, when it wasn't rooted, I was really interested in overclocking!
But now I'm mostly interested in thermal! there's a huge problem of battery & overheating bro!
Just suggesting! but maybe you can make the kernel more classic with 1.5 ghz max.
Later make marshmallow radioactive with 1.9 ghz overclock for bitting the competitors
Thank you for your time build whenever you had the time. patiently & perfectly
@Matthew_333 What have you done what have you got the kernel won't compile!? Not compiled not linaro, arm eabi...
Here, look at this, maybe that is not so...
https://github.com/nitrogen-devs/BlueMoon-GEEHRC
@Mr.MEX, with my script it should work. Try with bluemoon_defconfig, maybe your gee_defcondig has some compactibility issues with my changes to kernel source.. And which Linaro you use? 4.9.4? It works for me..

@Mr.MEX what the hell? I didn't though my source is broken, anyway, i am working on rebased kernel now, so, r2.x. And as we talked about updating to latest linux version, i found where trouble is.. We could upgrade without any bigger issues, but the problem is that commit "M for Mako" edited file "fs/dcache.c" in some vfs lines, and lglock, and i tryed all combinations but i get build errors. Do you have any idea how we could be able to fix this?

@Matthew_333 Revert all to hell, commits to lollipop... added Abhinav to run M on our device. To patch the kernel to 3.4.110 and then to do everything to M.
Option so-so or am I crazy?
And please tell me which commit last r1.0? So I can compile a kernel fine...
P.S. There are hangouts?
@Mr.MEX add me on hangouts, [email protected] we will talk there tomorrow. Your advice seems quite good tbh, i wikk try this thing with reverting to lollippp tomorrow in afternoon
no more releases?
