Unable to download or watch videos - Kindle Fire Android Development

Rooted with SuperOneClick and installed some gapps and now I can't play videos. Amazon help says contact them but before I do that as a third option, the second being a reset I thought I would see if anyone else ran into this problem and has more info.
Thanks.
EDIT: Of course I finally found a fix after posting. Using VooDoo OTA on the regular market to temp unroot which re-enables video and saves root yay. Courtesy of
http://www.eddieoneverything.com/ar...m-video-error-why-cant-i-play-or-download.php

Covered like 10 times now. Amazon Videos app checks for root, you can not watch videos while rooted - unroot to restore amazon video functionality.

Oh man, this sucks.
Sent from my Kindle Fire

Use OTA Rootkeeper. Temporarily disables root. Just restart after you use it and the videos will work again. Restore root with app and restart to regain root.
edit: just realized that the original post was edited with this solution.

So once the custom roms start rolling out, will this kill the temp root issue?
With video playback or is an aosp rom the best to hope for with that issue?

What issues are you having with root? The problem seems to be with the Amazon Video App that won't allow you to play on rooted devices. Not sure what the question is?

this should be FAQ or sticked, the OTA rootkeeper app is a must with root
thanks

Or, you can rename SU in xbin. This will allow you to stream from Amazon.

How to Unroot GedeRom 5/13 Rom?

I recently installed this rom and I love it. But I installed the Time Warner Cable app and tried to watch live tv (i'm a subscriber) and it says it's not supported on rooted devices. I've used OTA rootkeeper to temporarily unroot but it still doesn't work, any ideas? Thanks

Try to ask developer of this ROM.
try installing SuperSU from market, it has an option to remove root from the system.

Found a working root for 4.6.1

Greetings!
I was successfully able to root my US unlocked Fire Phone (on 4.6.1) by installing and running KingRoot 4.0!
KingRoot appears to work on other 4th gen Amazon devices as well!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/general/to-root-4th-gen-amazon-device-t3104853
One caveat:
KingRoot installs KingUser as its superuser app, and KingUser appears to prevent the su binary from being overwritten.
Because of this, I have not yet been able to replace KingUser with SuperSU or similar.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can resolve this, but until then
I've opted to install the Xposed Framework and LightningWall module in order to block KingUser's network activity.
najoor has found a way to replace KingUser via adb:

Thanks z64 for the information about a working root for 4.6.1 (US Unlocked GSM) Fire Phone.
I would like to know if KingRoot 4.0 is really safe to use, and if will make a FULL or a PARTIAL root to the Amazon Fire Phone?
I also would like to know if after rooting, you will be able to go backward and UnRoot later the Fire Phone, to the default and normal original state?

Is KingRoot a PC based program or a APK file? I'm Google searching now, just wondering which you used.
http://androidxda.com/download-kingroot-application
Choose 4.0
does this survive a reboot? that would be great news =)
After rebooting root checker report" ROOT" but you are right superSU is not working actualy it got installed but the SU binary upgrade failed
Can I go backward and UnRoot later the FirePhone to Default/Normal Original State??
Please, can someone that has already Rooted their Fire-Phone, if after rooting would be able to go backward and UnRoot later the Fire Phone, to the default and normal original state?

I'm not sure what qualifies as a full or partial root; the bootloader is still locked, so no custom recovery or custom roms.
It is possible to unroot using the included KingUser app.
You have to uncheck "Backup Root permission" first to completely unroot it.
(Still haven't figured out how to replace KingUser with SuperSU while it's rooted.)

Not sure why - but after following instruction (after rooting etc) tried to follow the guide for making phone look like normal android and thats when all hell broke loose on my phone. Unresponsive bottom button, wiget's not loading, super su showing nothing then refreshing a while later showing apps in there etc.
Kinda killed my phone so going to factory reset and start again.
This is great! I got the now launcher to work, although I'm not exactly sure how. I tried the supersu replacement and only made it to steps 6 and 7 mostly because I couldn't understand what exactly I was supposed to do, so step 8 didn't work and I'm still using the kingsu. I then d/l the now launcher and the google (search) apps, tried to run it a couple of times with no luck. Then force stopped the home app, restarted, and I was given the choice to use the now launcher.
Its easy. If u have root, convert Google Now Launcher and Google Search with Titanium Backup to a System App... And you can Choose Google Now Launcher.
This is great. I was able to fix my play store/services issues by changing my build.prop to nexus 5 after rooting. Awesome!

Kingroot Firestick question OS 5.0.5 (Purify?)

I see different post regarding success rooting with Kingroot but are you clicking Purify 'Try it' button when you slide the screen up? I don't see a way around it and I assume you may be able to uninstall it afterward but it seems even more sketchy forcing you to install as part of the root process. It also seems to require a bluetooth mouse on the fire stick as I couldn't get the screen to slide up using a gamepad, keyboard, or the default remote. I am wondering if I downloaded a version that isn't legit?
looks like the legit version
I used the version you're describing.
I didn't know any way around 'purify' and clicked the 'Try it'-Button with a mouse.
For me it's no big deal, because you can use the in kingroot integrated bloatware-uninstall-tool (irony? ) to remove purify after a successful root.
The lack of an option to control the app with the remote and the missing landscape mode (especially of the root-granting-prompts) are more annoying. Maybe i'm trying any of the guides out there to replace it with SuperSu.
The thread on XDA has a version of 4.1 attached, I haven't been able to test it as I don't have 5.0.5 yet on the firetv stick, but it looks like that one doesn't need a mouse from other posts:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-t3107461
it does connect to the internet to download the root for your device on the fly, that is a large thread on XDA though if you want to learn more about kingroot itself
Is it safe to uninstall? The purify app?
I think so. I didn't run into problems so far.
But the next time you start Kingroot manually (NOT the superuser prompts!), it checks for purify and you have to 'try it' / install it again.

I know there is an app called Super Sume Pro which claims to uninstall the king root & purify & leave Super Su in its place but some have been left with problems booting afterwards & some have had success with it
No I'm not!
I'm a bit careful at the moment... Afraid to brick it w/o recovery.

I have 3 fire sticks on beta firmware how do I put them on 5.0.5?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I rooted using the latest king root from their site. I had a bluetooth mouse and keyboard to swipe but it was invisible in some parts of the app. I also noticed it was having trouble with landscape mode but I had that problem solved because I already had this app installed which does forced landscape mode ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2331514 )
I was tempted to use the supersu-me app from the playstore but I also read in the app descriptions how some people had issues and were bricked. I did install the supsu.apk file and it was granted root. I installed flashfire but it would not run because it requires supersu. (probably because the supersu binaries were not installed) I'm gonna sit and wait a little bit cause I figure it's just a matter of time till we get a full process. I did disable ota updates. and the amazon keyboard which was nice. along with adaway. Next will probably be samba and ssh. I wish we could get connectbot(closes immediately on connection attempt) working with proxy droid (from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2505762 ) or something similar so we could use ssh tunneling as a vpn client. I definitely prefer that over ssh tunneling app cause it proxy's all your traffic. the latest orbot.apk (tor for android) has some nice new features were you can pick you country exit node easily. A comment off topic, I will not be updating my already rooted firetvgen1. I prefer the stablity and the compatability of what is already there and defintely dont want fireos5. I am not so happy with my rooted/twrp firetvgen2 not for what the devs have done of course. it's just newer isn't always better. again dev's please don't take this the wrong way. I just found my ftv1 more compatible with more apps.

What I'd suggest to everyone is achieve root asap and resist the temptation to fiddle too much!
Remember its harder to 'restore/unbrick' without recovery (if rbox does achieve it) so don't do anything risky until we have a way of restoring. Especially if its your 'main' Kodi source.
Once we have recovery and a pre-rooted ROM then the goodness will come without the risk of a brick.
I nearly bricked mine this weekend by freezing FTVLauncher and setting Kodi as permanent Home, Kodi didn't take to it and I had no way revert teh default launcher change as its not available in Settings.
What we need is some cleaver chap to compile the ASOP Settings.apk for the stick with all the links to the right places.

be careful with samba, the system tools of "adbFire" and autostart modifications in general!
I almost bricked mine and ended temporarily in a bootloop... Luckily there was still a 10-30 sec window in each loop to connect with ADB and undo the changes before fire os crashed and the FTV restarted.

Fire Stick 5.0.5.1 can't play Amazon Prime content

I have OTA updates blocked since day 1 using debloater tool. Device is at OS 5.0.51 (537175520). Everything (Netflix, Kodi, Amazon Prime) was working great for more than a year.
Recently can't play any Amazon Prime content even though I'm signed into my Prime account. It does show recently viewed in list from other devices (phone, other smart tv). Clicking on a video spins the icon a few seconds and then takes you right back to your personalized Prime content page. So the program isn't crashing just not allowing streaming anymore.
Tried rebooting, force stop application, clearing cache. Any other suggestions or do I have to reset to default settings? Will restoring allow Amazon updates and remove Kodi?
Go easy I'm only tech savvy enough to get into trouble
Thanks.
Clear amazon video app cache and data in settings -> applications.
Hey Blue,
I tried that before and it didn't seem to work. Tried it again and after doing that it allows me to start one title. If I stop the video and try to play another one, it won't stream a different title.
Sometimes when I try to restart the same title it won't do that either.
I redo the clear data and cache it lets me do the one title only thing again very reproducibly.
The Prime video player is version 1.0.247.48-ATVAndroidFOS5.... at size 40.43MB if that helps.
Any other things to try? Thanks for your help.
If you have twrp installed I would reflash current rom and see if that fixes the problem. I'm currently using 5.2.1.1 and had same issue with prime video and clearing worked for me.
Don't know what twrp is, how to check for it or how to reflash the rom. Is there a link or instructions somewhere you could point me to?
Read a little about twrp....looks like with my skill level it's the fastest way for me to brick the firestick, haha. My device is not rooted if that makes a difference?
Is there a low tech way? For example, could the Prime Video app be deleted and redownloaded from the App Store?
If not, what would happen if I reset to factory? Would the stick revert to receiving Over the Air updates? Could KODI be reinstalled if that happens?
Thanks for answering my newbie questions!

You have OTA updates blocked. Is it a reason why if you do not want to root it? You will not be able to reset to factory if OTA updates are blocked however if you unblock it will update to the latest s/w version and at the moment is no way to root it but you can still install Kodi.
Why not reading on how to root it, install TWRP and from here on you can install latest rooted release s/w by rbox.

Best reason to not root it is because I will probably break the thing with my lack of knowledge.
So, I have to re-enable the over the air updates or I won't be able to reset to default factory settings?
How about the idea to delete and reinstall Amazon Prime from the App store, is that a possible way to get it working again?
Thanks!

Prime is part of the system menu and can not be erase as you erase an app
Well, maybe I'll move this stick to a smart tv that has Amazon Prime app already since this is the only problem with the stick as is.

Hi,
I've had the same problem with all the Fire TV and Sticks I bought. I live in Italy and always had the same error. I have updates domains blocked so I've always thought it was because of this. Now I'd like to solve cause Amazon Prime video is finally available in Italy too. I've always used rbox roms for my devices and I d'0nt want to go back to official firmware. Amazon app on my Nvidia Shield and Browser app work fine. Any advice? Thanks.

Netflix issues after root?

Hi all, I recently rooted my phone and for some reason Netflix won't launch at all. It just hangs on the Netflix logo. If I reninstall the app on first launch the app will force close and then after re-lauch it will once again hang on the Netflix logo. I've cleared the cache and deleted any folders relating to netflix. I'm not sure what to try next or if anyone has any advice on how to fix this that would be amazing. thank you!
Edit: I've found a solution to this problem! Follow this guide here:

After downloading and installing the old April 2017 Netflix app simply lauch
The app and sign in. After you have signed in update the app on Google play
And you should be good to go! Hope this helps anyone else with the same

The bootloader needs to be locked. I would not advise trying it unless the phone is 100% stock as there have been issues mentioned in the past.

Damn, that's discouraging. No wonder why I've been holding off rooting this device. I'm not use to a/b root anyway. Before my razer, I had an s5 for many years so I know a lot of things have changed since then.
