Sony Stereo Mic for Video Recording etc. - Galaxy S II Accessories

I wanted to share my purchase with you, Sony ECM-DS70P for £2.70 from ebay. I'm sure some people will appreciate this, because the sound on video recordings is...I'll just say not that good.
the Mic is obviously a fake Sony but still much better.
a couple reviews from youtube(there are plenty more):

You can check the mic on ebay:

Enjoy
Edit: apparently u need to be on 2.3.5 or above to get ur ext. Mic to work

Hi,
But it worked on the SG2?!?!?!
How? The 3,5mm jack isn´t just for output?

No, think about what happens when you talk from handsfree
try recording video with your handsfree that the phone came with and you will see the difference

Right, the handsfree. Forgot that
Nice finding!

I think this Adaptor from Ebay must work - it is for Iphone, but the 3.5 audio connector is compatible with the SGS2
Alternet you can look on this pages: http://www.kvconnection.com/iPhone-Adapter-Cables-s/8404.htm or https://www.kvconnection.com/Articles.asp?ID=165

Hi There,
Do you guys using the original headset or dump this away and use another better one?
Problem is, where are you going to find a stereo headset with mic with the same connector as your device?
Don't chuck it.

HTC EVO External Mic

I was wondering if anyone has tried any external Microphones (connected to the Headphone jack) on the HTC EVO to get better sound quality on Video recording? I have found a few external microphones that I was thinking about trying but before investing in that, thought I would ask the group. Below are some links to some Microphones I thought about trying. As I cannot add links yet I have broken it up below.

Thank you for your assistance.
Uuuhh...it's a headphone jack, not a microphone jack. In other words, output not input. Where's my face palm pic at?

Oh jeez, you should find that pic and take a real good look at it.
Evo External MIC
So it is not set up for wired headsets which would have a MIC. I would think that this would be standard in all phones for people that don't want bluetooth....
Wired Headset
According to this site there is 3.5mm wired headsets for the EVO.

Yes it does, sombdy just wanted to try and be a jackass to someone to make his day better.
It is set up for wired mic headset, don't know if when recording video if it would use that input or not, worth trying though.

Thank you for the response. I knew the answer about the headset just was being facetious, and the next post was to prove it. I was just wondering if anyone has tried it yet.
I know there has been a few breakdowns of the EVO, Has anyone come up with the wireing schematic for the EVO yet, to see what type of jack it is and what Pins are actually connected to that jack?
Thanks again.
It can take a standard headphone OR headphone/mic combo. Maybe a DIY super microphone? Use the standard headphone/mic cable and add a amplified omni directional mic?
I use a wired headphone/mic combo that I got with an old blackberry and the mic works fine on that

I believe RadioShack has splitters that will let you plug a regular mic into the headset jack.

[Q] 3.5mm audio plug? Support TRRS w/Mic?

I was very disappointed, when attempting to use my original Nexus 7 with Skype, to find that the 3.5mm headphone jack did NOT support headphones with integrated microphones in a single plug, such as those with a TRRS 4-pole adapter (ie Most Android and iOS devices that support a wired headset with mic for calls etc..). This is a silly oversight, especially considering the front-facing camera on the first N7 and the VOIP apps on Android. I hope it has been remedied with Nexus 7B / 2013.
Can anyone test this out to check for sure? Please check to ensure that audio output, mic/audio input, and if possible the multi-function button (usually used to pick up/hang up calls, or advance music tracks etc..) Thanks

Did I miss something on that Anandtech report? The quote I saw was " I know a lot of people were hoping for inclusion of line in on the 3.5mm audio jack but I can confirm it isn’t present. " referring to line-in, but does that mean a microphone won't work? Or just that it doesn't support a line-in feature? I don't see anything specific about a mic?

If the sole 3.5mm jack does not support input, as it appears is the case, then you are correct - the Square reader will not work. It does not work on the original N7.
Looks like square works

Did you try to swipe a card to see if it reads?

Err... B&H seems to think it does support headphones with mics:
"The tablet features a 3.5mm combo audio mini-jack as well, so you can connect headphones and/or an external microphone."
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/indepth/asus/news/asus-announces-new-google-nexus-7-fhd-tablet
So I managed to get 4 successful credit card swipes on PayPal here. So it must work, I attached a screen shot.
Well, if Square works than that confirms it is a combo port and will support microphones. There is no way it could read credit cards without that.
Very promising indeed with Square.
It would be great if someone with Square (or a similar device) could try plugging in a 3.5mm headset w/mic and see if works as well. Bonus if you can test a headset's "multifunction button", to see if it picks up/hangs up/advances the song etc...

It's not promising - it's proof.
Square uses the mic input to send the card's magstripe data from the reader to the device. There is a 0% chance that it would be able to read the card without this ability.
Whether a multifunction button works or not is up in the air, but there is no question about the mic.
I used my gaming headset to make a call using GrooveIP the other night no problem on my original Nexus 7. Headset had a mic and worked like a charm.
I would assume the updated one would be the same.

My new 7 says that the reader is connected but it won't acknowledge that I swiped my card. I also tested mic input using a app from the play store and my note 2 headphones and the mic didn't register on that either.

I tried with my skullcandy headphones. The button successfully plays and pauses the music. I couldn't tell if the mic that was built in was relaying audio but this tablet sounds much better with audio quality.

I made a test skype call using a headset that I know works with my android phone. The Mic works just fine, loud and clear.
I was going to test but I can't even seem to locate the PayPal Here app anymore...
Huh.... I test using the speech to text with stock key board and when I tap the mic with my finger is defiantly notices it. I wonder why it won't read my card with square? My reader works fine with my note 2

Do they work with the Xperia Arc?
Apple earbuds with microphone don't work with my phone, so I ask this question before ruining 60 bucks. If they don't work, are there any adapters available to make them work?
Thanks

Yes use a simple extension jack (20cm) ,or jack adapter (jackmâle 3.5 mm / jack femelle 3.5 mm)
the fault is from microphone.
So just a small stereo extension cable? Thanks!

Yes, personnaly I use a double jack, but is same.
You can use all buttons and so if you buy a CTIA to OMTP adapter, which will not cost you that much.

I had this problem when I tried the Motorola headphones on my Samsung.
Are you using the original Samsung headphones?
If so, make sure the jack is firmly plugged all the way in.

Im using my Sol Republic V10's. I was having the issue this week and last night and it wouldn't do it on my Note 1 or Note 3. This morning I plugged them in my tab and the problem was gone. I'm worried somethings wrong with the jack but I'm gonna swap my headphones out at best buy today and see what happens. It's seated in the jack real good by the way.
Sound is amazing. I own the Sony X Headphones (MDRX10)
Yup it must have been the connection. New headphones, no issues. Just need viper and life will be good!
