Samsung Galaxy Nexus GT-i9250 Titanium Silver 16GB 3G/GSM $759.99 from Newegg - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

16GB version for sale from Newegg for $759.99
I tried posting on Slickdeals.net to let more people know there's a reputable option now to purchase a Galaxy Nexus but my thread's in the process of getting flamed for the price. I guess there are too many people out there that don't understand what a handset actually costs at retail.
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz
UMTS 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 MHz
LTE 700
This phone pretty much covers all bases except for CDMA in the United States!

Well it isn't a slickdeal. Lol. Maybe if Amazon had them for .01
Full retail price will get flamed.
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV

Having good customer value and being a slick deal are way different things.
Us SDers are just looking for crazy deals! Heck, many times I haven't realized how much I may value something until I see a deal that is just too good to pass up. Then I create the value within after the impulse purchase.
Get this phone down to below standard carrier subsidization costs and it will make SD.

Just ordered one from Newegg. Immediately after, it listed "out-of-stock", so hopefully I have (the last) one!
Not sure why they have 700 LTE band listed... I thought the GSM one didn't have any LTE?

Lol, yeah a type-o. Hope you aren't expecting an LTE Galaxy Nexus (unless it's Verizon, which this clearly isn't).
It's identical to any other GSM Galaxy Nexus. Do you honestly think Newegg has some secret access to a non-released GSM LTE device?
Didn't think so because it doesn't exist.

I didn't know New Egg sold grey market products?

Absolutely.
I got a white I9020A (Canadian nexus S) last year. Definitely grey market with zero warranty.

Nope, just wanted the GSM one. Checked the specs (size, weight, battery) to make sure I *wasn't* pre-ordering a Verizon one. Also, the fact that it was in-stock and selling yesterday.

Id prefer expansys or negri. They will handle warranty issues for you. I don't think new egg would do that. Akso they charge tax for me. Deal killer!

Yep, no tax in my state. Newegg shipping is always super fast for me, too. Guess I'm willing to take a risk of warranty to shop with somewhere I'm familiar with.

Newegg appears to offer their own insurance for $60 for 1 year for the Galaxy Nexus, which also covers accidents. Not sure if there's a deductible though.

Galaxy Nexus Carriers & prices?

I've seen all manner of speculation on the subject of which carriers, specifically, are going to be carrying the Galaxy Nexus, but the majority of it is conflicting reports.
Does anyone have good links or intel on where the Nexus will be available, carrier-wise?
http://www.unlocked-mobiles.com/sim...s-sim-free-unlocked-mobile-phone-p-83950.html
512.98£ but managed to get it preordered for 480£ next day delivery.
Hope they will not increase the price on me
The US dollar has dropped so much in value that everything in the EU will look very expensive. We also have higher VAT than you do (25% in Sweden).
$1 ~= 6.65 SEK according to Google. When all things are added we usually pay something like your dollar price with a conversion rate of 10, instead if 6.65.
In summary, the prices listed above is somewhere around what we paid for the previous Nexus-phones. Your prices are likely to not take the low currency value into account, like most other electronics.
OK I am going to just throw my two cents in.
This phone should technically work on all four US carries. (Verizon, Sprint, Att, and TMobile).
As for the LTE coverage I am not sure about Att's LTE spectrum matching with Verizon.
But the planned Sprint LTE spectrum and Verizon's does not match.
That just means that the first version of the SGN would not support LTE on Sprint.
The GSM version of the phone should work on both the ATT and TMobile networks.
I hope that the SGN comes to all four major carries as Apple is already on four US carries. (Att, Verizon, Sprint, and C Spire "Soon").
I have Sprint and would get this phone as soon as it was available.
I would not switch networks just for a phone.
Agreed, the move to Yamaha was probably the only regression in an otherwise great phone.
According to supercurio from today's Engadget article its a Texas Instruments TWL6040. How this compares to the Wolfson DAC I do not know.
I really hope its good because I am very satisfied with the sound quality out of my Nexus S with voodoo sound and good IEMs. I use my phone more as a GPS and PMP than as a phone.
Anyone have experience with Expansys? I placed a pre order with them just to have it in. I'm not even sure if that's for a LTE or GSM one, but I hope it's GSM haha.

It will not cost that much in the US though. Expect somewhere around $529-$550 most likely. I explained this above.

I was just curious about how their customer service and shipping is, if anyone has ordered from them.

I think Google will show T-Mobile some love. Look at the history they have together: The first US Android phone was released on their network and both Nexus branded phones were also released with T-Mobile exclusivity before branching out to other networks. I doubt it'll enjoy the same nod that Google showed them in the past with temporary exclusivity, but I highly doubt they'll be left in the dark for more than a few weeks to a month at most.

Worth it to wait and see if HSPA+ version drops in the US?

Is it worth it to wait and see if the GN drops in the US? Right now I can get one from Handtec for ~$696, but if it dropped here would it really be priced any cheaper? It's set to be Canadian$650 (~$636 in American monies), would it be priced maybe around $600 if it's released here? Maybe even less?
Or, is the HSPA+ version even going to come out stateside? All I've been hearing about is the CDMA/LTE version.
Insight?
Canadian version is only US$ 636???
if that is true I will definitely buy one!

I debated this for a long long time. Then my N1 had it's usual set of daily hiccups, and I had it. So I bought one. It's a great gadget, and almost worth the $700 I paid.
But, if you're okay with your current phone, stick it out and wait. It won't go up in price.
Early adopters never get rewarded. Only screwed with headaches.

If you go to Canada and buy it outright you're going to be paying local taxes in the 10%-15% range, and either paying to convert your USD or pay a foreign transaction fee on your credit card... and you're still gonna pay $700 out the door, just like ordering from the UK importers.
If/when it does come to the US unlocked I'd expect it in the $550 range. Just depends how much you wanna pay to get it now.

$550!? I sure hope so!
Sometime last week, an AT&T version passed through the FCC, with HSPA+. Just about a month or so ago, AT&T was asking customers (on twitter, I believe) who would be interested in the device on their network. Seems like they listened.

Would it still be the same penta-band GN? If it's just AT&T bands that also doesn't help me.
EDIT: Reading the FCC filing suggests their GN only supports 1900/850. European version it is. Damn you Ma Bell.

The FCC only has to worry about the bands that will be used in the states, which is 850/1900. No reason why they'd make a specific version with a quadband radio to only work on AT&T and not T-mobile. Its more expensive than just using the current pentaband version that's available and putting an AT&T battery cover on it.
I'll give it two weeks. If it doesn't come to the US in a T-Mobile friendly version I'm getting myself one for the holidays from across the pond.
Didnt the GSM pentaband version get approved by the FCC a week before the Verizon LTE version?

As the article says, just because it works on bands here and is passed through the FCC doesn't mean it will be sold here. Any phone that could be used on a carrier here needs to pass the FCC. The i9250 is the version being sold overseas right now.
Buy from UK
I think if you cant wait, you should get it from handtec or clove. they ship to usa and their prices dont include taxes for shipping to usa (i think, from what i have read and seen). the price is £445 including shipping, which is less than 700 usd.
i dont think it would release in usa for less than 649 (the same as the iphone 4s 16gb), then u have taxes etc.
plus who knows when is the unlocked version releasing.
Why can't Google just sell it like they did with the N1?

Because from pretty much every angle, the Nexus One sales tactic was a failure. They partnered with Verizon this time to get bigger sales and exposure, and because of that we're not seeing it sold unlocked unfortunately.

Pre-purchase questions

Im a little late getting this phone, could be this 16th that i order it, could be March, obviously im pulling for the 16th.
Now I've been loading Negri's site everyday to see the current price of the 16 GB titanium silver one, as thats probably going to be the cheapest.
now i see they also sell the "Canada version" >Seen Here<
And im wondering the differences from UK version? and why its cheaper? import taxes less?
Also: What do you guys think the white Galaxy Nexus will be when it is launched? and how much do you think it'll drop the titanium/silver version too?
Probably been asked before, but now im asking again.. sorry

I have the device. Its from Canada, not the UK, so they got a better deal on them obviously and are able to sell for less (got a better wholesale price and saved on shipping probably). I also think they're saving because the charger in the box works in the USA, whereas with the UK version they had to include a USA charger separately.
There are a few small coupons rolling around that can take $10-$20 off that price also. And standard FedEx shipping with Negri is always free.
It is not yakju, it's a yakju** variant (updates a couple weeks behind, read up on it). I flashed mine to yakju 4.0.2 right after I bought it no problem. Everything is great.

It'll probably be around $675 if I had to guess. They can't make any promises. you'll find out in a week. I had it on pre-order at $680, but it just wasn't worth it when I got my Titanium from them for $565.
It won't really effect the Titanium price. They're separate items and the white one is just more expensive because its new and exclusive. You'll see price drops of the Titanium regardless of the white being available just because its getting older.

International
+ Teg3 is better in some benchmarks than S4
+ Teg3 will be better at gaming
+ No AT&T bloatware
+ Updates directly from HTC
+ You can use cheap HSPA plans
+ 32GB of storage vs. 16GB
- Teg3 battery life isn't so hot in all but at idle state where it wins
- Warranty work done by HTC so you'll be w/o a phone if you need service
- No ADH available except through SquareTrade
- No LTE if you care
And yes, Rogers and AT&T are both essentially the same phone which is the One XL.
Thanks for that... that was very helpful.. I think it comes to LTE for me... but I definitely like the 32gb and no bloatware and ability to tether internet connection on the international one.
you can also factor in the fact the international is now 619.99 with free shipping and ATT will charge 650 + tax.

Here's a helpful hint on buying an international version. Order it from Clove or Handtec in the UK. Expansys-USA is shipping Malaysian versions as may some others based in the U.S. like Negri. You want a UK/EU model. My Handtec phone arrived overnight whereas even with express shipping you're lucky to get your phone in the same week from Expansys.

[Q] Is USA version of GNEX same hardware as I9250?

I was looking at the Specifications and the US Version does not list 900 Mhz in 3g radio.
From play.google.com
NETWORK
GSM/EDGE/GPRS (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
3G (850, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz)
HSPA+ 21
When i bought I9250, the specifications listed were:
Connectivity
Wireless Radio
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz
UMTS 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 MHz
So, are US Version and Internation Version same Hardware or is the US version really missing the 900 Mhz UMTS radio?

I've read a lot of information about the i9250 imports and warranty issues in the US (i.e. warranty is not honored in the US). Is the model number the same now that the unlocked version is being sold state side, and does anyone know if Samsung US will now warrant the i9250s?

I don't see how they can't... Samsung should warranty their product worldwide... Its still their product, no matter where you bought it from.
But to be on the safe-side, I would contact Samsung USA and inquire with them......
Afterall, you'll get many answers here... some saying yes, some saying no... but none as definitive as the horses mouth.
Good idea... i had never thought about contacting them directly.

Incorrect. They do not warranty their products worldwide and the international versions (before selling in the Play store) were imported and considered grey market items (and they absolutely do not warranty grey market items). Almost all companies don't.
That said, I'm not sure on the status now that it's being sold in the U.S. via the Play store. I am sure they will have you verify purchase from the Play store or something similar for warranty service.

So, does this mean, now that it's for sale in the play store, i can buy the i9250 from Amazon without concerns of warranty? (or, i should still contact samsung)

I'm not sure on this. They may have you verify the purchase from the actual Play store itself somehow.

I just talked to Samsung. The model numbers are the same (i9250) for both international and domestic phones, however Samsung USA keeps separate records for both. So, in the case of the int'l version you would not be able to get warranty service through Samsung USA. However the rep said:
"You would have to file an international warranty claim, and i have never heard of a claim not being honored."
Granted he's just a front line rep, but that is promising information.
I guess really this is all a moot point, since regardless of how hard i try i will have the phone rooted within 3 months. I really do want to resist voiding the warranty early on this phone... but i don't see myself holding out for very long.

No one ever said anything about a grey market item. With all due respect, buying a product internationally and bringing it here does not constitute 'grey market' as you put it. If it does, I would like to know a source for your information.
Secondly, I've purchased a Samsung TV in the states before, and had to get it warrantied here in Canada. They knew the set was bought in the U.S., but still warrantied it here.
So by your thinking, they warrantied a grey market item. Hmm...
And as the previous poster said, they must have filed an international claim... either way, I got my set fixed.
My international was bought on eBay, warranty is void.

As far as I'm aware, as long as you bought it from an Authorized Samsung Dealer, its warrantiable anywhere.
eBay sellers I guess can't be verified.
EDIT: We can even go as far as saying they would warranty anything without proof of purchase, provided that the manufactured date falls within the 1 year. I know they were doing that with a bunch of original Galaxy S's way back when they had issues. At least the service centre in Montreal was from my recollection.

Do you know what grey market means? Read up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_market
The GSM GNex (before selling in the Play store) was never officially for sale in the U.S. and stores imported it from other regions and sold it here in the U.S. That is the definition of grey market.
TVs may be different for Samsung, so who knows. Go ahead and do a search of the many, many, many threads asking and noting that there was no warranty from Samsung regarding the GNex bought from overseas in the U.S.
And I wouldn't trust any sort of first line customer service rep about international warranty. If that was the case that information would be *everywhere*.

I ended up buying from Amazon... It's actually cheaper than getting from the play store even if you don't have gift cards because of the lack of tax and free shipping.

Somehow I knew Wiki was going to show up in your reply.
Fact is, prior to them selling the GSM version here, then yes you can classify it as such... Now that they sell it here, it's no longer grey market. So you can service your model here no problem.
And as for TVs it would be the exact same thing... Model I bought was purchased in the U.S., but also sold in Canada... so there is many logistics as to why they would service it no problem as opposed to buying a model that wasn't sold here (parts, know how, etc)...
That doesn't apply anymore, because the 9250 is truly international now. So again, its no longer grey market, no matter how long ago you bought it.
So I "Read Up" as you put it... but your definition doesn't hold water if you "Read between the lines".
Last edit: And for your information and to be clear - grey market refers to product being sold outside of a manufacturers authorized distribution demographic. Nothing more, nothing less. For example.. anyone remember DirecTV way back? How Canadians were importing them and using them here? Thats grey market because DirecTV never had any intention of distributing them here.
Those demographics have changed for Samsung, and if you're not going to trust a customer service rep who's telling you the same thing, then I guess we should all just believe you.
