WARNING !! Do not remove Carrier IQ - LG Nitro HD

Just wanted to let everyone know to not use the Logging Testapp Prokey app on the market to remove Carrier IQ . Totally trashed my phone to the point of having to go to my friendly AT&T store. Luckily they replaced it. Strange thing is the replacement Nitro has no lag compared to my old one.

my phone keep doing the "booting loop", i wonder if i can exchange another one.

You shouldn't have a problem. I was able to get into the phone but everything was force closing. They took it back without question. You could even see the Superhero icon. I couldn't put the phone into debugging mode to unroot .

lol I had the exact same issue! I tried uninstalling CIQ manually and when I backed out of Root Explorer my phone started FC like crazy and with no ADB access I was screwed! I went in to AT&T as soon as they opened the following day to get a replacement.

I figured someone else would be as paranoid as me here, so that's why I posted my experience. So is your replacement phone better? Mine is completely different. No lag and even battery on standby is better.

It's sad that they have it embedded so deeply in the phone that it screws it up if you remove it.
Hope we get some dev support soon.

anyway to just freeze it?

My first Nitro had a hint of lag when I first signed in but it sped up quickly and never lagged at all after that and my replacement Nitro has never lagged once I really hope we get some development soon, I'm trying to get someone to port the Thrill CWR for us.

Random rebooting

Ok. After having started the vertical lines thread I don't want to seem like a negative Nancy.
But my device has just been rebooting randomly like probably 5-10 times a day. Anyone else have this issue?
I'm assuming its a software issue knowing Samsung. But I just want to confirm with other people. I may exchange mine if I'm the only one having this issue.
I so really like the device though. Runs fast and smooth. Just stop rebooting on me! Lol
It did it once while I was writing this.

I have had one random reboot that I've noticed... Unfortunately it happened to me today as I was calling to speak with a guy about a possible job... He bought the "my phone dropped" answer I gave him when I called back but there was a frantic moment or two on my end when it happened...
What apps have you installed?

I did some reading and it looks like one of the other galaxy sII variants had reboot issues with SD cards.
I have a 16gb Samsung card I put into mine. I'm not sure if that's related. Perhaps I should just exchange.

If its an SD card issue then take out the SD card and see what happens or try formatting the SD card. I also have a 16gb SD card that I took out of my old Hd2 and my phone is working flawlessly. Definitely the best phone I've used to date and I've owned 2 Nexus S, 1 Nexus One, 2 G2x, 1 Hd2, 4 myTouch 4G, 1 myTouch 4g Slide, 1 Sensation 4g, 2 Vibrant's, Hd7 etc.
My point is I know my stuff when it comes to these Smart/Super Phones and I can say this one tops them all.

Same here, and also almost the same amout of reboots per day. I even flashed the Stock, deodexed, rooted ROM posted and still rebooted. It always do it when it's in my leather case. Haven't seen it yet do it out of the case. I'm assuming it might be the magnet on the case.
My opinion the volume rocker & power sticks out a little bit to much.
Anyways I'm getting my replacement from Wirefly today. Let's see how the 2nd unit does.

Hate to necro a thread, but better than starting a new one for the same issue Same problem as zoth...stock rooted deodexed ROM, 16GB SD card (but it was doing it before I put the SD card in), not under or over clocked, maybe 20 installed apps. Mine also seems to reboot when in the leather case. I go to make a call or text, pull it out, and its rebooting.
Is there a known fix? Or just return it? Just got it a week ago.
I've had one reboot but I was messing with clocks and voltages. Other than that, smooth sailing here.

OK. I didnt know if it was the ROM or the hardware. Im currently using Mr X's Tmoble SGH-T989UVKL1 Stock, Rooted, Lightly Tweaked, 100% [CIQ Free]
I was having this problem for a while, turned out my internal memory had somehow gotten corrupted.
To test is this is your problem, make a nandroid backup and then restore to it. If there is an error while restoring, then your memory is corrupted and you need to run SuperWipe.
In case you're worried about losing your data, at least in my case, I could still restore to the backup that had the corruption, but restoring it would cause the corruption to be present again, but obviously no guarantees.

I just got my warranty replacement and its awesome

I'm using the stock software installed by Samsung and then I added macnut r1 which is booming with system tuner.
I left the CPU setting to disabled on st and I made the sd red at 6145 with deadline to make it keep up with the necessities whig was set to apply on after boot sure to the restraints which i'm trying to get by; it keeps on failing when I try to apply it to init.d.
After which I set boost app loading to init.d without a problem and clear cache on boot which both work fine.
Last but not least I applied the v6 supercharger script and kak and 3g turbo with after burner and null.
Now my things are going great, I know that some tweaks could help but I think that reputability is my issue, I really like the way the stock sixteen was setup by Samsung, its solid and ensuring for some strange reason. Maybe tweaks do hurt sometimes, but honestly the kernels make the whole thing a ball.
Have fun, try the kernels or before the roms and use system tuner to make your adjustments and don't forget to leave the memory settings in system tuner disabled so our doesn't mistake the string fit null and reset them. That when using the v6 supercharger. Anyone know how to change the io settings on the init.d script? I used to know how but I forgot.

Hey,
Can anyone explain how to do the warranty replacement you guys are talking about?
I have noticed that in the last month my S2 has developed the infamous blobs and lines problem. Specifically however, it has developed a rather large blob which can be seen even if the screen is at 50% brightness. A tad annoying.
My past experience when a phone has broken down is that it took T-Mobile 2 weeks to get me the replacement and I had no phone for 2 weeks. Hence I've been reluctant to send in my functional S2 with the blob. If anyone can assist me in detailing how to do an in-store exchange, I would be very grateful.
Either tell Tmobile your problem or go to a Tmobile store and with a hostile attitude non verbal threats ask them to exchange you're phone with customer care then peel thir skin back for **** you don't really do.

X2 again lol.
You don't need to be hostile with the workers. You just tell them you have a problem, they'll replicate the problem or confirm it at least. Then they will go through a protocol of factory resetting the phone. If the problem isn't fix, they will submit a warranty exchange.
They either will be able to do the exchange on the spot. Or they will put in an order for an exchange.
I find it easier to just call in. They will tell you to factory reset it and ask you if the problem is still there. I never follow to reset the phone because it's a pain to set up again and i know it's a hardware malfunction... So I just pretend that i did and tell them the problem is still present, they'll just issue you an exchange without a problem.

"Turning Wi-Fi on..." continuously displaying

Hi all,
I know this seems to be a wide spread problem and I've read through several threads hoping to fix the problem but nothing seems to be really working for me :/
This first happened while I was running 4.0.3. Wifi was working fine. Then one day when I went to switch it on like I normally ever would, it seemed to get stuck at the "Turning Wi-Fi on..." message. Reboots didn't help anything.
So I decided to upgrade to 4.1.1 thinking that doing a factory reset and flashing a new ROM would fix things. Flashed Paranoid Android ROM with no problems (wiped data, dalvik cache, etc etc) and saw the same problem with wifi when I tried turning it on. Reboot did nothing. Tried flashing the boot.img manually and that did nothing. Tried flashing Trinity kernel and once again nothing.
Can anyone help me out? This is really killing me and I think it's also destroying my phone's battery life as well
My Galaxy Nexus is GSM yakju if that helps out at all.
Thanks!!
This was also my problem... except my phone rebooted every 2minutes... I just flashed stock everything and then sent it to Samsung

So tired of this.

How many of you were trying to use your rooted stock galaxy s3, and when you were using it, it froze, resulting in a battery pull? I am sick of this. Either after writing a long post, message, or status and it freezes and losing it all, or just now, when I was downloading the MOAR ROM (800 mb), it took an hour and thirty mins, and then at 94% it froze. I returned a galaxy s3 STOCK NOT ROOTED for this same problem, and got another and it still does it. How many of you have the same problem? This is one of the few reasons I wish I havent gotten this phone. Do not get me wrong, I love this phone and all its features, but there are these few tiny things that make me really mad that is does it, that makes me regret it too.

Have never once had this problem on my GS3. Day one purchase too. Sorry to hear that.
I've had freezes due to custom kernel overclocking and undervolt testing, but once I found the right settings, I haven't had a single freeze...and it's been months.
Phone has ran its longest at 2 weeks 3 days 16 hours.
Never had this problem. Rooted since 2nd week in July.
No issues here either; rooted and blue-tified not long after getting it 6/21.
My first phone I had was a dud. The screen would flicker and freeze up. The only way it would fix itself was a battery pull. But it would start doing the same thing within a few minutes. I got my replacement and haven't had problems since. Maybe it's possible you got another dud? There worse thing that can happen is you get another bad phone, or you get a good one. If you'd get another bad one you could just see if they'll let you upgrade to a new phone early. Have a buddy who just that same thing, not with a s3 though.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Overheating means one of two things.
1. You phone is in an extremely marginal signal location and keeps switching between cells. Lots of radio activity at full power will heat up the phone.
2. An app is using lots of CPU power and/or data and may be "running away".
You should be able to get some clues on this by looking at battery stats to see what's using the most power.

I always thought it was something I did, but I took my first one in and it froze and heated up, now this one just freezes. I don't wanna take the 2nd one in because that is just extra work for sprint and I can deal with it. If my computer worked or I could download the moar rom (or any for that matter) without it freezing or restarting the download I wouldn't have this problem. Oh well. Nothing I can't deal with. Heck, it is a great phone.!

Must be some rogue app you install consistently.

I wonder what it could be though? I mean all I have are top notch apps that are like in the top 100 on play store. I don't download from play store without reading reviews.

Hard to tell. Perhaps someone here knows a diagnostic to tell which app freezes the phone.
But it's most likely something that runs as a service (under Settings/Apps/Running), probably something you yourself installed. I'd start there first. If you have a quick and reliable way to determine if it will lock up (like running some stress test, maybe a benchmark), perhaps you could "freeze" some of those apps in Titanium Backup and find out which app is responsible.

Really sick of this crap anyone else have this. ..

Phone just all of a sudden has 0 service and can't text or anything sometime it even freezes and or reboots every rom and every kernel really annoying anyone else?

No, mine's rock steady as Jim Dandy. I'd suggest saving what's important, resetting and start from scratch.
So no one else is losing service randomly or freezes or reboots?

I get random reboots but like once a month or something like that. But I'm for sure done with sprints crappy service.

I was having the same issue, no 4g and no bars. Then I found this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769
went ahead and flashed it and buumm every thing started to work. I also played with the ##DATA# settings made the 4g work like crazy sweet.
just make sure you write down the setting you have before you change any thing.
o and by the way you might need to download Get My MSL from play store.
hope it works for you.
no problems here, but service just plain sucks. i can't even stream google music at 320kb/s. i don't see why service would have gotten so crappy lately since sprint sure as heck hasn't had a large influx of customers. it was getting better few months ago, now it's back to crap. i'm temped to dump sprint even though i've got the sero plan. crappy service at a good price is still crap.
Best thing to do would be what was suggested... Start from scratch.... I started having problems with random reboots and storage not showing.... So i used Odin to flash back to stock rooted. After that no more problems....
i had the same issue
but i start using a custom rom but a stock kernel all is good at least i think so lol
I found I had zero service tbis morning with AOSP. Flashed back to Twiz, updated my prl for the first time in forever... And back up
