Thinking about getting rid of the ol' A100 - Acer Iconia Tab A100

I'm one of those guys that churns a lot--I always need something new to tinker/tweak-- so the lack of CWM (and ROMS by proxy) on our tabs is getting to me.
Anyway, I'll probably be putting it up on eBay and Craigslist soon. What should I ask for it?
-8gb A100 in perfect condition (and with original packaging)
- the Blurex leather case on Amazon (and as seen in the Accessories sub-forum)
- an HDMI-to-mini hdmi cable
- a 32gb micro SD.
Think I could get $300 for that package?
Should I wait 'til Acer updates it to ICS?

I think you will probably have to go lower but you can always list it at that price first specially on Craigslist cause they ALWAYS try to haggle pricing. As far as price standpoint the acer can be had for $249 at best buy, sears, and kmart online. I'm sure stores are the same. 32gb I've see go as low as $29 online. HDMI cable can be had for $10 at amazon for a 15 footer. Cases can be had for $10-20 on amazon as well.
so 249+29+10 or 20 = 290 or 300 (all new)
For the most part most dont really consider tax unless you point that out.

Damn, you're right--when'd they drop to $250 in stores??
I might just have to keep the thing.

I know it sux. I myself ended up returning the one I bought from frys black friday which cost me $275 (250+tax) and ended up buying one on craigslist for $250 just to save $25 so I wont lose so much later when I sell it. But you never know, you could get lucky and someone might not even know theyre going for 250 now.
Also at this time I don't know of any other 7 inch tablet that can compete with the a100 including its price point besides on battery life. What other tablet were you considering?

Also curious as to what other 7" tablets are out there that can compete with the A100 in terms of hardware and also have custom ROM's.

For a similar price range hes probably has to settle for a Flyer. Which I read is a great device even on single core since its running at 1.5ghtz and has custom roms and great battery life. But may not see ICS and might not multitask as well as dual core.

Oh, no other tablet on the market can touch the A100.
I just find myself reaching for my HTC Desire when I want to fritter away some time and figured I might see if I could get some money back for now and see how the tablet market looks in a year or two.

Are you in nyc I will give you 200 just for the tablet

You probably won't find a lot of ROM work right now on many devices as ICS is a short time away. A lot of devs are not using the time to work a ROM for HC only to turn around and re-work for ICS.
I had an A100 for about two weeks and truly liked the device. Returned it due to battery life, minimal internal storage and IMO very challenging viewing angles.
Got the Samsung Tab 7.0+ and must say it rocks! No ROMs yet but root and CWM available. Pricey, yes. But on track for ICS and the specs are excellent. Best 7" tab available right now IMO. But only till the Samsung 7.7 releases. The Super AMOLED display is killer from what I hear.

Just curious, where are you getting this tablet in the US for anything less then $330? BB has no stock and will not NOT let you order online. They show no date for inventory either. Amazon is the only place I found for this and the price has fluctuated in the last week between, get ready, $460 and $330. It is now at $330. Everywhere else online I try says out of stock. This tablet sells for more then its bigger brother a500.

BestBuy currently shows $249 "in stock" at my nearest store, 92691 zip code. (Out of curiosity, last week it showed in stock at multiple area stores at that price, so I guess they do move pretty quick.)
Of course, I bought mine on Black Friday for $189, getting there late morning without much of a crowd nor long lines. In fact, I went in thinking about a $200 deal on a Blackberry Playbook or Kindle Fire, but seeing the A100 for ten bucks less was a no-brainer.

Sorry man, I'm in the mid-west and not really looking to part it out (I think it makes the most sense to sell it as a package).
Mods: I really just posted this to gather information--if this has crossed the line into 'advertising,' don't hesitate to move it to the XDA Market section (or just delete it).

I've seen them go in and out of stock at local Walmarts and BestBuys for the $250 price. If some one really wanted one, a little bit of daily checking stock and willingness to drive could probably get one for $250.

You can also try craigslist.

Got mine at Microcenter in Cincinnati for $229, minus $100 gift card, $129 out the door. Best purchase of the year.

i will sell mine as well since i cant install rom on it
kinda pissed me off since acer doesnt give a flying **** about this tablet.
280 you can get mine barely use it. come with case and a 16GB

At least wait for iCS love then sell it

is this phone worth $200?

i bought one from ebay is it worth it?could i have gotten a better one?
condition is mint no scratches or anything
hey,
i bought the phone a few month ago for about $300...
and of course you could have gooten a better one...
But here's the BIG BUT:
-when you want to have a hardfware keyboard then theres only one other phone...the desire z (about $600)
-if you dont need the keyboard then u could get the HD2 if u want it to hgave windows mobile
-or you could get the desire wich in my eyes is a high end device without any limits for now...
--->but thats all a matter of what you want to spend for a new phone...
but i can only tell you that it is a great phone i use it every day and its just great to have the keyboard...
and for that price $200 you couldnt get a better phone then this one!
just flash a cusom rom and the phone is just awesome!
nick
Not a bad price; was it a 'bid' or 'buy it now' option?
I was lucky to snag one with a bunch of accessories (including 2 batteries, 3 cables, 2 AC chargers, a spare battery cover, extra stylises, & an Otterbox) in mint condition for about $150 shipped. It was a buy-it-now sale, so I assume that I got that deal because the seller really didn't know what it was worth. The seller was changing carriers and just wanted to get rid of the phone.
Since the phone has been discontinued and the new Windows 7 phones are out, the prices are coming down quickly. I'm not ready to jump into a W7 device, so I'm happy with my purchase.
Keep reading the forums and, if you're brave about customizing it, I'm sure you'll be happy with this device, too. Enjoy!

And thank you for replying
Well, after reading this thread, I decided to buy one off ebay too. Then to see how the xdandroid stuff is working...
bought my tp2 before they hit the U.S for $600,been pleased ever since. You got one for $200,you got lucky, great buy
Was it an unlocked device? It wasn't a BAD price, really but I don't know if I would consider it a great one either. The phone is a bit on the slow side these days, but not excessively so. They are still selling new Android phones with even slower CPUs. But it's no Snapdragon either. The hardware keyboard is nice. I thought about moving to a Focus with WP7 but I really don't like the soft keyboards and I am not impressed with the Quantum.
So, yeah, not a real helpful post, but the TP2 remains one of if not the overall best WM 6 device out there. AT&T is still selling it for $199 and you would be locked into a 2 year contract for it so if you got it for $199 I suppose you did okay. Especially if, as previously mentioned, you aren't adverse to a bit of out of warranty modding and custom ROMs.

Black Friday Deal

Just a little FYI. Here in the states, Best Buy will have the Iconia A100 for $189 on Black Friday. Was thinking about picking one up, but the DEV community is not that large I see.
Anybody else thinking about picking one up?
http://bfads.net/Best-Buy/Name/Page3
I came to the A100 from a rooted Asus Transformer (running Revolver, and a 1.3 ghz OC kernel). Honestly, the awesome form factor of the 7-inch + the fact that Acer promises a January ICS update means I don't actually miss the XDA support all that much.
I mean, if they get CWM working, I'd root, but as is, it isn't like being stuck with a Samsung Galaxy phone still running Eclair or something.
Nope, I am note missing the XDA support either because the firmware seems pretty stable and ICS in January is a plus.
I'm for sure picking one of these up from Bestbuy on Black friday.
Kinda disappointed to see the lack of support on XDA, but heres to hoping we get some custom roms sometime.
I figure I can manage with the pure honeycomb for now.
Guys I live in UK but would love to buy one of these at 190 dollars. If anyone can kindly offer me shipping to UK, pleaassee PM me! Btw how long does this offer last?

I will disagree with you here....you may end up being correct, however you can also interpret that as receive an additional $100 off if you sign up for 2-year verizon hotspot contract.
I would think it would explain in the add that the $189 reflects the additional $100 off. If it really is $289 on BF its a good deal but certainly not a rush out and buy deal.

The add said exactly what i wrote... why dont you google it your self and find out? Misinterpretation for hoping that it is that price is your choice, but i just told you what the add said... you can misinterperate as free as well if you want .
I've read the ad and looked at the picture and I disagree with you, why is it so hard for you to understand that?
Here is exactly what I see in the ad scan....
Top Bar Reads:
"Save $100 on Any Tablet With Purchase and 2-year Activation of a Verizon Mobile Hotspot"
Then I see 3 tablets: Toshiba Thrive 10.1 Tablet, Acer Iconia 7" Tab, and Pandigital Novel 7" eReader.
Now...here is why I disagree with you (and really dude you need to switch to decaf)
If you look at the Pandigital Novel 7" eReader for 69.99 immediately underneath that you will see it says "After Savings". To me that suggests the $100 is baked into the Pandigital Price but it does not say that for the Thrive or the Acer Iconia A100. I would imagine if they say it for the pandigital then they would have also said it for the Thrive and Iconia.
As a matter of Fact the verbiage under the Iconia is as follows (and the picture has "Hot Buy" tag on it).....
189.99
Acer Iconia 7" Tablet
Play games, watch HD movies, social networks and more.
Now in pocket size with Android 3.2 Honeycomb OS
(A100-07UOBU)SKU-3245029
Minimum 4 per store
So your free to disagree with me just as I am of you.
Ok, just a few things to point out here my friend. First and foremost the $100 is not baked in to the pandigital because if you see in the bottom is says "SAVE $50". Now if $100 was baked in it, the tablet/reader would have been for $19.99, since the original price is $119.99.
The question then rises up; "WHERE IS $100 BAKED IN?" the only others i can see is thrive or iconia...
Sure we both can disagree and find out on black Friday but what ever you said simple did not made any sense (for me tags like 'hot buy' and stuff like that is for attraction) , where as i do appreciate your counter agreements and would wanted them to be more concrete.
I think that what happens when you drink too much of decaf... you see the world totally different than others.
I am still open to arguments; since its a good deal i would love to put hands on it and that's the reason i researched on it.
Oh Jesus, enough already.

You will have to line up the night before at BB to get it. They will hand out vouchers to those in line to get one of the 4 they have. For me it would never be worth that kind of crap.

I don't think so. I think all the early bird specials are on the first page. What I'm hoping for is that it is indeed $189.99 (without contract) and that Walmart will price match it (assuming they have stock).
Here are a couple of other reasons why I think the $189.99 is without contract rebate.
#1. Acer Iconia A500 (10.1" will be on sale at various other retailers for $299) so I would imagine they would have a hard time selling the A100 for $10 cheaper (without the rebate)
#2. Asus Transformer is going to be $299 at HHGregg on BF....so again see #1 as why the $189.99 price makes sense.
#3. With the Nook Tablet and Kindle fire at $249 and $199 respectively I think acer wanted to make a statement since these devices are now competitors.
One other thing....4 is the minimum.....I assume at this price they will have quite a bit more.

Ok so if the Pandigital is normally $119.99 - $50 savings making it 69.99 doesn't that just further support my argument? There is no way the Pandigital is normally $219.99 which is what would be needed to make the final price $69.99.
Assuming
Original Price - Verizon Hotspot Discount - $50 savings
219.99 - 100 - 50 = 69.99

Well your arguments make sense and i also thought about them man. Considering that ASUS TRANSFORMER will ON SALE FOR ONLY 249.99 AT Best BUY!!!
Also the door opens at 12:00 am !!
But again that statement kills it all! if it was only for the Pandigital they could have specified.. why did they put 3 tablets under 1 statement?
The reason is simple, they will make it as confusing as possible to get you in the store.
BB is known for misleading consumers and retract on published deals.
I'll tell you what if we are confused by it then wally world will be completely baffled. So just in case go early to Wally world for the price match just in case it does require the contract (or BB runs out of stock and Wally world no longer price matches).

Yes, I agree. I bought a 32gb SanDisk Micro SD last year. Received a generic brand Micro SD instead. They offered me a full refund to return it, or keep it and receive a 50% credit. After testing the SD card, the storage was 32gb as what it claimed, so I kept it and got the 50% credit.

depends if your tight on cash or anything......
It's a great phone, definitely better hardware-wise. Not sure if it justifies the cost over a Galaxy Nexus though. User experience will be fairly similar as in smooth throughout. Galaxy Nexus obv has the edge in ROMs and development, will get Jellybean sooner etc...
Battery life is worse from what I'm seeing, but camera etc...are better. Still, the camera isn't the best out there surprisingly.
Great phone if your in the market for a new one, but IMO not really justifying the switch to it from a Gnex.

Thats great news for folks who bought from googleplay, shame i bought mine in dixons :crying:
True. It doesn't count for those who purchased them in a store. I guess that would be the store's policy at that point. If Google offered it to ALL 16gb users who purchased after the deadline, then they could effectively double up on the rebate: Pricematch in the store AND credit from Google.
WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT 8GB VERSIONS? Holy hell, it's like we don't exist. I would like something at least from the fact they don't even sell my device anymore.

+1. Guess we get the shaft. Screen lift and smallest size.
Not sure if pissed or happy because rare due to size not being made anymore. Lol
now i wished i bought my device from GooglePlay. Damn. Got mine from GameStop with tax for 16Gb was USD272.
It's complete BS! I bought my 8Gb from the Play store, but as soon as I heard of the 32Gb I called for an exchange. They denied that model existed or would ever exist and said the can't exchange something they don't sell. Then they couldn't even return mine since I was a couple days out of their return window. I couldn't see paying the extra $50 for another 8Gb, but 4x as much makes a bit more sense. Either way I'm stuck now.
Too bad I bought mine back in August :/

+1 I was one of the first adopters of the tab, I bought the 8Gb version. I think Google should exchange mine for a 16Gb version. But, I highly doubt they will do this...

Asus is doing something similar directly on their website for UK customers at least...
If you bought your N7 before Oct 30th, they are offering £25 voucher to spend at the Asus store. You just need to register your N7, and they will send an email asking for proof of purchase. Then you'll get the voucher/coupon code later. You can register N7's bought from any authorised retailer. I got mine from PC World :cyclops:
I pre-ordered my 8GB from Google Play and had it RMA'ed once. I think its unreasonable to expect a company to refund on a fully working product that they barely made any money of in the first place, just because they released an updated version months after release.
I can't help but laugh at the people getting pissy. Am I upset that I paid $200 for an 8GB version and then just around the corner they released the 16GB for that much? Yeah. Am I gonna pout and stomp and whine about it? No. Because that's the price of being an early adopter. Now i'm not the type that can just drop money on a new device. You have no idea how many dice I flipped and coins I rolled trying to decide if I should adopt or not. In the end, I ended up getting it even though financially I shouldn't have. But I did, and I early adopted. You should always expect the worse when you adopt early, and then not complain when you get shafted because...well...that's what happens. It's a tough and unfair game. That's life. Suck it up and deal with it like an adult. I can still turn around and sell my N7 for $200 on Craigslist to some guy who has no idea about all of this and not think twice about it. But, I honestly don't use that much memory and I rarely travel so I have no need to store my music and movies on it. I tether it to my phone and there's all my music from amazon and pandora. I watched a movie on it ONCE while I was waiting for my car to be fixed. But that's it. Sad this happened, but I understand that's how the game works. It's not fair and if I had a Google employee in front of me i'd let him know, but I don't so what's the point in crying about it?

I disagree. It's perfectly fair for a company to upgrade its products months after they were released. They have absolutely no obligation to refund anything especially as they already are barely making profit and bundled them with Google play credit.

I'm just saying if they are offering people who bought a 16GB version something, why is it that us 8GBer's get left behind like we are nothing? We bought a product that isn't even being sold anymore, I just feel like they could give us something. "A sorry you bought the wrong one" letter at least.

doesn't matter to me much.. Plus the one my friend bought me over the summer, was long before they even posted that. So I wouldn't even qualify.
That is a great gesture from google. As said above they did not have to offer anyone nothing. I got lucky with Walmart.. I spent some time in the Walmart store a few summers ago working on there automated doors and door locks.. Got to know many people there.. So I took my 16 gb nexus 7 back 24 days after purchase and the manager get me a refund. I then went to Office depot and bought a 32 version...
Im not exchanging this one. I do not need the 3/4 g version. Im going to get a nexus 4 when they come out. My phone is now 3 years old. So this is good timing. I can tether.
I Wish google would offer everyone some kind of deal . But life is not always fair in our own eyes.
Well I got 50 bux back from Amex. I posted my charge, told them the situation and they understood and processed the credit within the next few days. Score!
I am not saying that I am deserving or it was my right to get any funds back, but I figured I'd pose my case and ask. I felt there was not hurting by asking, the worst scenario would be that they would have said no. But they didn't.
Got mine on 7/12/12.

Honestly, I can't see why. If you buy a car, and a new engine comes out replacing yours 2 years later, you wouldn't ask for any compensation or feel stabbed. And we all now that technology is a fast market, where things are constantly changing. I don't feel bad at all for having spent 250€ on my 16GB. And, while I think it's nice that Google offers a refund, I don't think that's neccesary for those who bought the tablet (like me) one month before the 32GB came out. We all knew the possibility of a better model being out later, and we decided to spend our money anyway. We have exactly what we paid for. So what could we possibly complain about?

Still worth buying?

I'm wanting to get a bigger Android tablet, and while the Nexus 9 exists, I just hear horror stories about it. That said, the Pixel C seems very hard to find and pretty expensive, so is it still worth getting, and if so, where in Canada can I find one (used is fine) for a decent price?
I really like my Pixel C. But is it worth it at current prices? I'd say no, not by a long shot. It's two years old. You can get a Galaxy Tab S2 or S3 for much less. You can get a giant Windows tablet and install Android.
In fact, if people are actually paying $500-600 for these things then maybe I should sell mine.
Yeah, the only Pixel C's I see on Kijiji around me are $500-600 CAD, Nexus 9's go for around half that
I have had mine for less than a month and I am already looking for a replacement. I dont like it.

What's wrong with it? I just played with one today to see it before buying, and I really like it.

Personally, I'd wait until the pixel/xl launch in case of any surprise announcements. If they say nothing, I'd be worried for the future of android tablets.
I'm kind of hoping for something to come of the chrome OS/Andromeda/fuchsia OS rumours in tablet form.
Well I ended up getting it, love it so far!
It was just so heavy vs my Samsung. If I drop this on my dog he will die ..lol
I was about to start a thread asking pretty much the same thing. I'm soooo done with other companies skins and such, and I want stock Android on all my devices. Soooo, I was looking at the pixel c, but it IS 2 years old, and the cheapest I can find it is the google store where it's $600... I would def get it if it were $300. But, like you all said, there are no tablets that are worth a crap! I really hesitate to buy another Samsung, because my note 10.1 2014 battery went to crap barely AFTER the warranty expired of course... So, I've had the $550 tab for 3 years with a battery that makes it so I can't hardly do anything on it. Games, even Chrome are out (I can literally watch the battery drain). The new pixel chromebook starts at $1000, so that's out too. Not sure what to do here! Does anyone know how long the pixel c will get Android updates for? I suppose that might sell me or turn me away.

I love it, too.
So, I contacted Google support to ask about OS/security updates. Looks like Oreo is the last OS update this tab will get. Security updates will continue for 18 months AFTER they finally remove the tablet from the Google store. Sooo, considering that, I just don't think I can bring myself to spend $600 on a two year old tablet that will not get anymore Android updates... Honestly, at two years old, this tablet is in no way worth $600! I would think the price should be more like $300 or so by now. Not sure why Google thinks they should charge that... Anyway, thanks anyway. I think I'm out on this one.

I'm still a fan here too, got one (64GB) off Swappa for just under $400 I think that is fair. But IMHO I agree $600 is quite a bit much, $400-ish is fair.
It is still a very nice device, and has stock google android, try that on a Samsung or ASUS, not gonna happen. Good luck even getting to 7.12 on those.
You can buy it on eBay. There is a pixel c selling with keyboard and case fore $380 right now. Buy it
I'd say yes! I got mine for $360 on eBay in December. I got a really nice case for only $15. Especially now that we have a RR ROM for Oreo, it totally rocks!
I just picked a 64G one w/ keyboard up 2nd hand off of ebay for a little less than $500. Probably still too much to pay, but I didn't want to go Samsung, so what are you gonna do? Worlds better than my aging nexus 9. Worth it in my opinion.
