Stylus and touchscreen thoughts... - Kindle Fire Accessories

I just want to recommend the Verteks stylus. It reminds me a bit of the Wacom stylus and it has a good overall weight and feel when drawing. Plus it is on sale on Amazon right now for around $5 +shipping. I must admit the Kindle Fire has excellent sensitivity and it has been a great sketching tool so far. (I'm using Sketchbook express at the moment)
Anyone else have experiences with a specific stylus or touchscreen comments?

I've been using this, and I wouldn't recommend it at all. It was brilliant for a moment, but the tip seems to be wearing down or something after only a week. I'm glad I came across this, I'll give yours a try. I was going to try the roocase one next.

I'm using the free ($3.99 for shipping) ZooGue stylus. So far I really like it.

Has anyone tried the Amazon Basics Stylus yet? (AmazonBasics Stylus for Touchscreen Devices Including Kindle Fire, Apple iPad 2, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab, BlackBerry PlayBook)
I looked around for a little bit and ended up ordering this one (haven't received it yet). The Wacom one sounded pretty nice too, but at $25 is a little more than I wanted to invest in something that I will probably only mess around with every so often.

what ROM are you guys using your styli on? i'm currently on the Jan30 ICS ROM and handwriting and sketching has been terrible using my Griffen stylus. Do you guys run the stock Kindle build or are you on CM7 or something? I'd really love to use the kindle fire as a note taking tool but everything I've tried so far on the ICS ROM has been terrible.

I tried the Wacom bamboo and was not at all impressed. The darn nib is so soft that the aluminum collar can scratch the glasses.

Really? I LOVE mine.
I also have a Rocketfish as backup. I never use it though as I prefer the Bamboo as it glides better. It does have a smaller nib though and is easier to get into the little bitty areas...

Realizing you have probably already got this and it won't mean much to you specifically, I do have this stylus and it does work pretty well. I ordered it mainly because I fat finger a lot and this thing does help with precision. And it is easier to take notes and such with an annotator or hand writing app.

Can anyone provide updates with links to the stylus they have. Looking to pick one up off amazon but don't know which one to get.

When you have it plugged into the headphones jack, doesn't that kill the speakers?

I too had the "fat finger" issue so invested in a stylus. Originally I bought the roocase version for like $8 or something, but it came apart after a couple of weeks.
Instead I went and purchased this one. It's well made and I've had no issue.
I took the headphone jack plug off of my old one and put it on this one. Keep it from getting lost....and no, it does not effect speaker output, it's just a plastic piece shaped like a plug so there's not actually any connection made.

[Mini-review] Seidio Active Case for Kindle Fire

Just got my Seidio Active case to replace my cheapie carbon fiber case that I got for 9 bux. The Seidio active case is exactly like the Active case I have for my phone. Well built and great color.
The case is pretty self explanatory if you have an existing active case. You slip on the rubber polymer case and align the openings and then slip on the (in my case) red 'exo-skeleton' case. This part I can forsee taking the corner bumps very well lol.
Pro's:
Awesome looking. Gives a bit more bulk than naked KF, but I like it. Reminds me of a tuffbook lol. The case has a cover that has a dual purpose. A stand and an optional cover to the case. Great for travel! The color is just cool lol.
Another great thing is that the usb port is just clear enough to plug in your micro usb plug. I haven't tried headphones yet though. The speaker grills line up perfectly as well. And for the cover/stand, you can go either landscape OR portrait mode on a whim. You just pick it up and rotate it. No worrying about extra joints, wobbly mounts, etc. It's just a tab that extends out to prop your KF and works wonderfully in any mode. Being that my comp at work and my out let are on the opposite sides of my desk, this works for me.
Con's:
The only con for me is that the power button is completely covered up. We all know that it's a good thing to see if the KF is powered up or plugged in correctly or if we pressed the button on time to access the recovery, but being that it's covered up, my OCD-ness NEEDS to know if I pressed it correctly lol.
Anyways here are the pics....

I wouldn't ditch a case you like and happy with for just a new case. I bought this actually because the guy on ebay accepted my offer lol. I was intending to get the microshell Marware case but because the offer was accepted, I was stuck with it lol.
I mean I don't regret getting this. I adore Seidio quality. I use my active case when I travel on my phone so that means it's a must have/use when traveling on airplanes, trains, long roadtrips, etc. .
I do recommend it if they are on the fence. Totally worth the 35 shipped I paid. In line with my cost for the active case for my phone lol.
I like the look a lot. I wish it was somehow one piece though rather than two separate pieces.

I thought that as well initially. Having had a gtablet not too long ago with a good case that was attached.
But it became obvious why they opted not to. I mean you can put the kf in any way you want, depending on where your plug is. Perfect example is Flipboard. The app only shows in portrait mode and if I want to read it, I don't have to dismantle the darn thing to do so or use some sort of rubic's cube trickery to get it to the way I want. Just pick it up and rotate the sucker. Just perfect and simple IMO.
And being that it is two separate pieces, the cover is totally optional and not required.

Absolutely nothing negative to say about this case. My only real concern was that the blue finish on the corners of the case would start to come off after a while of snapping it in and out of the cover/stand. As you can see in the pic it is not happening at all. I like it so much that I'm getting one of these for my Galaxy Nexus.

Stylus?

I saw the C-Pen and thought it was pretty cool but I don't want to pay $30 for something I won't use very often. Does anyone (who has a stylus) have any recommendations for this particular device? I notice the touch area needs to be much smaller than it did on my previous devices. Pretty awesome!

That one seems to want to be a pen first and a stylus second. Not only is the stylus tip HUGE, it's stuck on the same end as the clip, which means it won't be very nice to hold.

I've always been wary of the Jot Pen just because it looks like it might be more prone to causing scratching than the other nub capacitive pens. How's your experience with it in that regard?
I just ordered a universal stylus for 6$ and it comes with a free skin from amazon.
Don't spend too much on one, u can make your own with some electricaly conductive styrafoam (used to ship computer chips). Just hollow out a pen and stuff it in there.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
So I ordered the Galasy S III C-Pen and unfortunately it isn't working out that well. I have a Zagg InvisibleSHIELD installed and I guess the semi tackiness of the protector doesn't let the pen move around as smoothly as it should. It works great for normal pointing & whatnot, but if you're drawing or something, it isn't too precise. If you don't have a screen protector then you probably don't have to worry about it.
Also another big negative (my fault for not doing some research first I guess) is that it doesn't work with any other of my devices. Tried it on my Acer Iconia a500 tablet & Galaxy Nexus and it doesn't work at all. I figured "Replacement for using fingers on your tablet or smartphone touchscreen" meant I could use it on other devices as well. Think I'm just going to get my money back on it. :/
With the glass on this phone I don't think it should be a problem at all.

I have the Samsung c-pen and it works great since I don't have a screen protector. It also costs 20.00 on Amazon.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
I have been using the C-pen. I got it off Amazon for $22. I don't use a screen protector, my phone is "naked", and to be honest, I really like it, but it's hit and miss. And what I don't think people realize is that it depends on the software using the stylus. This was something I didn't expect. I thought it would perform roughly the same on all apps. Using Adobe Reader to make freehand notes, I would find dead spots, where the pen just wouldn't work. But then if I touched the screen, then went back to that spot, it would work again.
The two best apps I have found, and the two use the most, (both work quite well with the C-pen) are SketchBook Mobile, and Genial 2. SBM is for drawing, and Genial is for note taking. The C-pen had bad reviews, but I have been happy with it. This is where I bought mine. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-ETC-S10CSEGSTA-Galaxy-III-Pen/dp/B0089VO7HY. I have had buyers remorse at times, but not enough to send it back.
It looks really nice, and I love the way it feels. I think the only other 2 options I would consider are HandStylus, and Jot. Anything else is really just another variation of the same thing. But, even with any stylus, your really magical experience will come in the app you are using it on. The nice part about the other two is if you ever change phones, or have a tablet, you can use your stylus on it. The C-pen only works with your GS3.

I use this one, looks like you are reading/carrying an old book. It has a few turn-able pages to add to the deception. If you left it visible in your car, no one would know the wiser, you can keep it on your bookshelf.... It's not cheap, but well worth it in the long run. This is more for transporting the device, not for practicality. Great during boring meetings, work or school!

Samsung Galaxy S Pen And Holder Kit

Hey guys I searched on google for the s pen and came across this site that is selling the OFFICIAL Samsung S Pen & Holder Kit for JUST $5!!!! I was shocked when I saw the price considering Samsung is selling this same kit for $59.99 and Amazon has it listed for around $25. I ordered 3 to have some extras around in case I lose/misplace one. The shipping for just one was about $7, and for three it was about $8 and some change. My total order came out to be about $23.38 which I found to be a steal for three of these pens.
What's even better is if you are in the Miami, Fl area they have stores that you can actually pick up your order at the store and save on the shipping! I'll probably get the order towards the end of the week and i'll post back then with some pictures as well. If you guys are in the marker for this kit, I would definitely purchase it from here before they raise the price or sell out! Happy buying!

Unreal! I just bought this last night off ebay for 30.00...
Got my $5.00 pens today, and I must say they are great. I take a lot of notes in my college classes and these are the perfect size for me, unlike the pens that came with my 5.3 and 10.1 which have been a pain for me to use. These feel and weigh like an expensive ink pen, think Cross. They are built very well and look nice. They also work on both the 5.3 and 10.1. The pressure sensitivity works well also. still trying to get used to the button though. I Keep clicking it and taking screen Shots.

Saffman,
Thank you for sharing. Mine arrived today as well! But i paid 25.00 more than you ...nice...
Is your stylus a white nylon tip? If so i started another thread in regards to this..
Thats actually the one for the Note phone (5.3").
The larger pen for the 10.1 is different.

Damnnnnn! I wish I stayed in the US now, and that they had some in stock. Sadface. They look like the real thing, too!
I would stay away from this.
The S pen on the Note 10.1 has a softer tip. I have this model and it has a harder tip. Has something made the tips softer to prevent scratching?
The larger S pen for the Note 10.1 is different. Also the question is whether the Note 5.3 pen holder can handle the extra 1024 pressure levels. Thr old note is only capable of 256 levels.
This is the Note 10.1's larger pen:

Yes, that was one of my concerns after it arrived... i should have done more research prior to purchasing... i did ask the seller, gave him my model number as well?
Blue13x, thank you for the s pen link?
Regards,
Revived my pens yesterday. Im testing it out as I take notes from my textbook. I'm going to lost some oics either later tonight or tomorrow for sure. The kit is so much better to write with im glad I made the purchase. I will be purchasing a screen protector so I'm not too concerned about the pen scratching the screen but so far everything seems good!

Does the pen from your tablet fit into the holder as well? Also does the pen that came with it have a removable tip?

No, and no. This S Pen is exactly like the one that comes with the Galaxy Note 5.3 phone. The 10.1 S Pen is to big for the holder.

Belkin - MultiTasker Case for Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition

So I needed a case for my tablet as I was going out on a trip. Amazon didnt have the case I wanted and I was left with no choice but to head to the nearest Best Buy and grab whatever they have. I saw the official Samsung case but at $79.99 its way over priced in my opinion.
I was actually looking for something cheap but this was the only one they had in stock. It costs $49.99 (still a bit expensive for me) but got a quality case that matches the looks of my white tablet.
Its a black leather case that doesnt feel cheap. I find that it gives a more professional look than other cases found in Amazon.

It doesnt have a magnetic cover, so it uses an elastic strap to hold the cover when closed. I thought that this will be annoying at first, but found that it actually works well.
Also take note of the exact cut hole for the camera and flash, and for the spen.
There is soft suede like material inside to protect the screen. It also has 2 slots for business cards or small notes. You can also see a cut out for the charger so you can charge the tablet when the cover is closed.
The tablet is held securely by soft suede grips on all 4 corners. They are an exact fit and does not let the tablet wiggle or move around.
The case also acts as a stand and you can vary the viewing angle to your preference. Notice that the speakers, headphone jack and microsd card slot are free from obstructions.
The power and volume buttons as well as the IR blaster are unobstructed.
There's even a pen holder located on the top if you have an extra stylus.
Lastly, the case can be used as an inverted stand to allow the use of the microUSB port for charging or usb otg.
In summary, it is a decent case that offers good protection without giving a cheap feel. I still find it a bit expensive but it gives of a professional look that I dont mind bringing it everywhere with me especially at work.

Does it obstruct the charging port? I'd like to be able to charge it while using it as a stand.

Yes it will get obstructed if being used as a stand in landscape mode. I find that this is a design flaw with Samsung as the charging port will be blocked no matter what case you are using. I wish they put the charging port to the side. This also makes it difficult for me to attach a USB otg cable for use with my ps3 controller when playing games as most games are in landscape mode.
Edit: op updated. The case can be used as an inverted stand

This looks similar to Belkin case for original 10.1, I had it for over a year, great case.
For charging turn tablet 180 degrees, upside down, in the case, and you can change whole standing.

You are correct. There is a way for the case to act as an inverted stand. Really wish the box came with drawings lol. Will add this to my op.

It absolutely adds substantial heft and thickness.
It is a nice case and it looks pretty good, but the tradeoff is not worth it. It makes the using the tablet a chore...at least it did for me.
I bit the bullet and got the Samsung book cover...IMO it looks better and it add very little heft. Not a perfect case, but I would definitely say it is worth $30 more than the Belkin.

It adds a a little bit of thickness but it doesnt get in the way of useability and portability. I actually now bring my tablet almost everywhere I go.

Yes the Samsung book cover is nice although its out of my budget range. And Best Buy didnt have the white one so I didnt feel like spending $80 on a case that doest match the colour of my tablet. If they had one in white then I might have walked away with that case.

Good point. After using the Samsung case for the past few days, I'm having my doubts about whether this is going to be a case I can stick with.
