Galaxy Nexus..some type of sim cards not detected.... - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi guys,
I have my new Galaxy Nexus unbranded, here in Costa Rica we have some carriers, the main one ICE (Green frog), and others like, claro, movistar, tuyo movil, the thing is the nexus does not recognize the main carrier sim card but if you try with tUYO sim card it works great.
I attached the picture of both sim cards.
I really appreciated any help or suggestions.

The one on the left looks like the normal one based on the chip position. The one on the right looks odd, may be a very old sim? Can't you exchange for a newer sim and try?

I'm having the same kind of issue, I've already unlocked the boot loader, rooted and reset everything on the phone and only one type of SIM card is read, I've tried 3 different SIMs and only one seems to work, none of my postpaid lines will work either, it seems that only that particular pattern will read on the Galaxy Nexus, has anyone else had this issue?

This is not an issue with the Gnex....it is with the sim cards.....there is a plenty of phones (even cheap ones) that don't read some sim cards witch have a specific scheme ......i have some experience with that.......
Plus....the Gnex with 4.0.1 doesn't read sim cards with a pin lock....it's a bug......

looks like the sim cards are not the same as the "main stream" or most common sim cards. i reccomend trying a sim card were the chip is like most others.

mines read my sim card on 4.0.1 and same with my wife 4.0.1, both pin locked.

Thanks for the replies, but the weird thing is, among the SIMs that don't work the one on the end of the photo I just posted is the same pattern as the one that works. So if I understand this correctly, unless my carrier uses the exact same SIM for postpaid lines as the prepaid one that works, I have no hope of using my unlimited Data plan with my GNex?
Does this also mean that even if the SIM will work on an HTC Flyer, iPad, iPhone & Huawei E5 Modem, and it doesn't work on the GNex, it's still the SIM card at fault? I'm really having a hard time wrapping my head around this.

Have you tried getting a fresh replacement sim from your carrier(s)? All those sims look pretty old to me.

Except for the cut Micro-SIM, all of those are brand new

Carrier has no alts? Over here they do, and tbh, I haven't seen sims in those designs (apart from the cut one) in quite a few years. They look like 2004~ sims (at least thats when they looked like that over here)

Our Telcos are terribly inconsistent with regards to their SIM cards, the newest one in the bunch is in between the cut SIM and the OK SIM, I just find it irritating that I can't use my Main SIM card with the GNex, for now I'm stuck with the prepaid one that's OK.

[SOLUTION] for T989 user on Mobilicity network taking a long time to register

There was a thread (I can't seem to find it) from a bunch of Mobilicity subscribers that complain about this phone taking a very long time (5+ minutes) to register on Mobilicity's network after a reboot. I think I've come across with a solution. Go to a (different) store and pick up a new SIM card. Tell them the old SIM is defective.
Using my previous SIM it takes me a good 5+ minutes to register onto Mobi's network even if everything is set correctly, after I got my new SIM and tried it numerous times now, issue seems to be fixed. I haven't changed anything on my phone so I strongly suspect it's the new SIM that did the trick. It now takes around 10 seconds to find the network. Not as fast as registering to Rogers's network using a Rogers SIM (which is almost instant) but much better performance now.
YMMV but give it a try!
EDIT:
Remember, in phone settings set "WCDMA only" and dial *#*#2263#*#* to set "WCDMA 1700 preferred".
that's a good suggestion
i recall a similar scenario on my old Nexus S and using older SIMs will sometime has problems, then i got a new SIM, and all the issues went away.,
Do you think it's possible that this happens on Telus' network as well? It takes me a good 5 minutes after any reboot to get service. I've got my SIM card from my Motorola Milestone (December 2010) so I'm not sure if the SIM card is old or not.
any physical differences or markings on the newer sims?

No except for the lining pattern on the chip is different (not sure if that means anything).
And also I know it's definitely a different batch of SIM because the numbers pre-programmed in the SIM are different. Go to "SIMTookit" you'll see what's programmed in there.
The previous batch has "*TAXI" which the newer batch doesn't.

My Telus SIM card doesn't have that, but I feel like it is affected just like your SIM Card, in terms of when I reboot, I have no service for a good 2-3 minutes..

Hmmm, does it cost anything to get a new SIM card? Not sure if I have the latest one or not. Or if it may even alleviate the issue.
Any way u could post a pick or gave us the numbers they use to start with?
Mine starts with 89302 32XXX XXXXX XX866 and I got it back in May I think, it may be before than that.

Does anyone have a better solution? It takes me 2min and 30sec to find mobi's signal. I would like to get it down to less than a min.
Worked like a CHARM! Many thanks for this simple yet effective fix. Now I've just got to find a Rom/Kernel/Radio combo to have my S2X get reception as well as my Mobi BB 9360.
Rom: CM9.1.0
Kernel: Default
Radio: TLLE4

Can Sprint update their SGS3 to have global roaming like VZW will do?

I just bought a Photon, which I only did because it is an international capable phone. I know Verizon is going to unlock global roaming, and they're CDMA like Sprint. Is the hardware inside the devices the same? Would it theoretically be possible that Sprint could issue a software update to add global roaming capabilities to their Galaxy SIII? I'm considering replacing the Photon because of the lack of real 4G, and mainly, the lack of SVDO. Part of the reason I have the internet on my phone is so I can get the email or notification right there and then, and if I'm talking to someone, I wanna be able to look something up, especially if it involves school or work. But I want a phone I can go abroad with too, and the Moto Admiral, the iPhone, or BB is no option
And if not, does Sprint really think they can revive their brand if going around the world means not having a phone? Have they not learned lessons from Verizon and ATT's success? Why be late on all three SVDO, LTE, and people travelling with their phones, especially such expensive and premium phones? I, for one, will be more likely to stay with Sprint, which I'm with at the moment because I'm young and don't have a ton of financial resources yet, if I don't always have to worry about renting a phone or having a dumb phone abroad, especially bc smartphones are great for strangers in strange lands.
so I called up Sprint today and the guy told me that it if Sprint wanted to, they COULD issue us an update to have international roaming on the GS3
the answer is no. it's physically impossible, because the Sprint SGS3 has an embedded SIM card for its LTE. meaning you cannot swap SIMs in it. no way around this.
sprint on left, att/tmo/uscc/vzw variant (this one is att) on right:

you don't have to swap SIMs for international ROAMING, so that makes sense, but this does mean it would be hard to use a prepaid SIM card, which is a **** of a lot more convenient. Plus, it probably wouldn't be hard to mod the plastic, or go online, order the part of the back with the screws and SIM-card slot version, which I might do

It would make perfect sense for Sprint to enable this; us galaxy owners could go overseas, they'd get the high roaming rates, and they wouldn't risk losing customers who wanna travel. I still might save my Photon to swap SIMs. If Sprint doesn't enable it, they are idiots.

I found this online, worth mentioning

Note 2 takes a normal SIM card ot not?

I have made my Note 2 preorder in Expansys Pro, but now I remembered one important detail for me, can I use the Sim card from my Note 1 or do I have to order a new one because of the 4G or because of the size of the SIM card.
I read somewere that the Note 2 will have micro SIM card, but I also read that it will have a normal SIM card, that's why i'm confused.
Thanks
I sure hope for a normal size, there's enough space in the device.
microSIM guys. Regular miniSIMs are a dying breed. Most phones are moving to microSIM and even the newer nanoSIM (next iPhone.)

You realize they make SIM cutters, right? As long as your contact patch comes out unscathed when you cut it, it should be good to go.

Att should allow you to sim swap your note sim for a microsim. It sucks that we can't then go back and forth between phones though. I guess we can use adapters, although I recall the note doesn't play nice enough with some of them.

Not change the SIM. Make this:
http://tecnologia.uol.com.br/mundo-...ra-o-ipad-3g-pode-inutilizar-dispositivo.jhtm
I tried w/ a old SIM and work. I cutted it w/ a scissors.
I cut loads of Sim's at work, haven't had one fail from it yet.
Just use one of these:
I just phoned my Operator (TMN Portugal) and they say I can order from them one microsim to replace my old one for free.
I don't have to pay nothing for the micro SIM, so I think I will order one for me.

[Q] [SOLVED] Possibly damaged SIM slot?

In my Galaxy S4 mini's whole lifetime only twice has a micro sim been inserted. The first time I inserted a SIM card inside there, it worked immediatelly without any problems as soon as I powered on the phone (the sim card was cut from a normal one manually by me).
Then I left the phone unused without a SIM inside it for about 2 weeks and just today I tried to put back the same SIM card and the phone always displays "No SIM". Tried taking it on and off like a thousand times but still no effect.
The card is working on another phone but with an adapter as I don't have another phone that uses only Micro-SIM so I can't really test.
Any ideas?
EDIT:
Here is an image of what the SIM looks like and how it is inserted. I would greatly appreciate if someone from here checks the exact form and placement of theirs and compare it to this image:

Are you saying it could be possible that I just cut the SIM card badly? I'm planning on heading to the store and asking for an original Micro-SIM from my carrier but I'm afraid that might not be the solution and it would be a waste of money.

Problem is, all of my friends use normal SIM.
I just watched a video how a person types a hidden code into the dialer which takes him to an advanced service mode and from there after choosing some options, the "No SIM" error immediatelly disappears even without the need of a reboot. I believe he reset the modem or something.
I thought it was a firmware related issue but that might not be the case also as I flashed two different firmwares (both for my region) with Odin and it's still the same.
Is it normal that the center pin is a bit down than the left and right one?
There was previously a user who broke one of the sim card reader clips. It could be possible?

Yep it turned out that was the case, no firmware issues or anything of the sort. Luckaly mine wasn't actually broken but it just somehow went into the bottom too much. I used a small needle and tweaked it a bit hoping to push it back up and achieved it without breaking it.
Now it reads my cut Micro SIM just fine. :victory:

Scary that those pins can bend so easily.

I've just had the same problem on my mom's S4 mini: central pin lower than the other two. Bending it up a bit solved the problem.
In fact on other S4 minis the three pins are level.

Question Galaxy Z Fold 3 Has Dual Sim and eSIM but not in the US Work Around Discussion ?

Looking for possible work arounds no way I'm buying a $1700. phone with Dual and eSIM disabled.
Done carrying around 2 phones
Wouldn't buying an international version be a solid option or would the US carriers still not support or disable the option ?

I mean, I'm not disagreeing that Sammy is not partly to blame here, but T-Mobile did make the call to unlock esim on the Note 20 even after samsung refused to give esim to even unlocked models. So I do think carriers have some say in the matter as well.
I ordered the T-mobile version of the device through Samsung........assuming it will come with T-mobile SIM card, what do I do to activate, just put in the SIM and go online to T-mobile to activate the device?
I hate NA! I wish we have eSIM. I really do need two lines on my primary
I noticed there are sim pins on top and bottom when I was inserting my sim. The tray is single, but looks like it has the hardware for 2 sims.
So which one do you use?
Hello. It it known if there are any NA carriers that support eSim for Fold3 owners?

Why does it say “SIM 1” if there is only one SIM. My guess is that there is an esim but de-activated that is why the physical sim is named that way.
also on the back of the sim tray , looks like another sim card can fit. I am yet to get my fold3, but anyone with fold3 can see if a sim card sits on the back of the tray as well (PLEASE DONT INSERT IT IN THE PHONE )

so theoretically if we get a UK version sim tray , it should be easier to try and see if the dual nano sim work.
and then the question is can we flash the UK/EUROPEAN FIRMWARe to the US phone given that the hardwares are exactly the same (other than the LTE, BANDS ACCESS MODULE)
