To upgrade to nightly or from rc1 to rc1.5:

4.Open RSD lite(right click and open as a administrator). It will show connected. Now select the sbf file you located on the system and click start and wait till it completes 100% process. thats it. it will flash your phone to stock froyo and it will automatically restart and boot.
Note: Some times when rebooting after RSD lite flash your phone stuck in bootloop(M logo or it continously loading in Android menu). It is better to go to stock recovery(Hold the vol - button and then power button and then release it. you will get android logo with exclamatory symbol. Press vol - and vol + button at the same time to get in to stock recovery). Select wipe data/factory and wipe cache.

nice Guide
If you come from 2.51 and want to keep the downgradeability like me,
you can do the following:
-Do Step 1 and 2 of the initial Guide
-Download the fixed SBF and the CM Backup from here
-Copy CM Backup to your SDCard
-Root your Phone via Oneklick
-Install Defy Recovery and install the Recovery System
-Boot in Recovery Mode (pwr+vol_down)
-Install the copied .zip file
-Boot into bootloader (pwr+vol_up)
-flash the fixed sbf
-reboot
-proceed with step 5 of the initial Guide
greetings
So I can't use T-Mobile USA official 2.2 as my firmware? Then root and flash recovery, then flash cm7? No?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
great work, but 8. step is not necessary, 2ndInit has alredy been installed in the 5. step.
some 2.51 defys have sd card mounting problem in recovery 2.5.1.8
mine is one of them
i have to flash a rom above 2.51 and recovery works fine
Lol, if I had read this post I shouldn't pass all the morning trying to flash to CM7. At least I did it, hehehe. Thanks to all the posts here.

I'm afraid not. The linked ROM is a full (i.e. not fixed) ROM. However, according to Quarx you can use fixed SBF (which preserves downgradibility). You can find one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537.

Yeah I know step 8 isn't really needed but people might think u simply install the app and leave it.
As for the question about the t-mobile ROM You should be able to use it, I just prefer to use the same base as the dev to avoid any potential problems

maybe you could add what to do if a new beta is coming out. what steps are necessary to install the new version but keeping the settings?

If you're using the Aussie ROM then the fixed UK ROM doesn't seem to work unfortunately. I really want to give this a try to, but I'm afraid if I flash up to 2.2 and something goes wrong I'll never get my phone back to working order >.<
Fellow Aussie here, but got my phone outright off eBay. Lost downgradability ages ago. Anyhoo there's a thread on installing cm7 on a Telstra ROM So u might wanna check that out

You can restore all your application settings from titanium backup, I prefer to wipe before I install each new beta just to get rid of any potential bugs, but to retain all your apps settings etc simply install the new zip thanks for the tip btw

everything went very well thanks to this tutorial

[Q] Virtuous Quattro installation on desire HD

hello,
can someone please provide the procedure to install Virtuous Quattro on desire HD or a link to it ? is there a need to install any specific Radio /kernel? my HD is on default Radio, but custom MIUI ROM
How to:
Hi as you have a custom rom already it makes it simple as you are already rooted.
1 - Download the ROM and place it on the root of your microSD - Link for the Virtuos Quattro thread
2 - Also Download the Kernel to correct WIFI issues - Link and place it on the root of your microSD
3 - Power down your device and enter on recovery mode by holding volume down and power button at the same time. As soon as it prompt press volume up in 5 sec.
4 - Before flashing the ROM you will have to, for safety, make a backup of your existing ROM. You will find the option in the Recoverymode;
5 - After the backup do a FULL WIPE and it is very important to do in all data, cache and Dalvik (found in advanced options);
6 - Now install zip from MicroSD and look for the ROM.
7 - After installing the rom reboot the system - After rebooting power down into recovery mode again.
8 - Install the Kernel you download following the same procedure of item 6;
9 -Once again Reboot and enjoy.
I am not sure but I would try to avoid using any kind of app and data backup. Start from screch (I did it and had absolutely no problem).
If you like the instructions just click on the thanks button
Turner!
hi Turner,
thanks for the instructions,
apart from installation of the fix for the wifi, is it needed to install any other kernel for this ROM to work? If so, at what stage the kernel (not the wifi fix) should be installed ? also, is it again like step 6 for the installation of the kernel?
As far as I am concerned you wouldn't need any kernel prior for the rom.. I came from stock to android revolution to cm 7.1 and then virtuous. I didn't install any specific kernel prior to flashing virtuos rom and it worked great.
Try flashing and then comeback here telling us the results.
A quick question: did you flash any kernel before the miui rom you have?
i haven't flashed any kernel or radio before, but have been flashing different ROMs. was bit confused when i read somewhere that for virtuous ROM you need to flash a kernel. Anyway, thanks for your feedback. Let me try as per the steps mentioned by you and see the results..
User30 if you're like me and uncounter a little problem with the Wifi not working or the sound not working either, here's a little trick;
1. go get the .zip here : dev-host.org/k8rsgpxf5o2y/lordmodUEv8.8-ICS-BFS-b7.zip
It's lord kernel, really nice and work fine.
2. Put it on your SD card, *don't extract it*
3. you'll need to clear the cache when you're in the clockwork on ace hack.
4. Install the .zip using the same way that you install your ROMs
if it didn't work here's the modification
1. get the .zip of the Kernel and the one of the ROM
2. Put them on the SD card
3. Make a FULL wipe and be sure to Wipe the cache too
4. Install the ROM.
5. Install the Kernel
6. Everything should work perfectly
I had some problem with some Kernel, no idea why. The one I just gave the link to is working perfectly and didn't had any problem with it. p.S if working with Virtuous Quattro, install the RC1 for now. There is a bug on the wifi on the RC2 and I think they are currently working on it.
Sorry for my bad english btw.
Radio update utility is present in ARHD 6.3.1 thread....hope this will help you to update the radio...i updated with it without any issues..

Contact Photo
Hello
1-Why is the picture quality of the Contact, is down?
2-No setting For Gallery ... Why?
Are you speaking about the Virtuous RC1 or RC2. Since it's a RC version and not the complet version it's normal that some stuff ain't working or are bugging.
But as we speak there's more likely some people of the Virtuous working on the rom itself so I guess some of those will be fixed. If you want to keep information about the dev go in the thread about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428047 you'll see all the update you need to follow

[Q] ROM ICS

How can I install the ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432100
I'm using now CM7.1
2.3.7
DEfY
someone can helpme with an full tutorial to install the ICS ROM
You have the install instructions right there, in that thread. You could at least try to make a little effort and read those 10 lines of text containing the flashing details, it's not that hard.
Installing custom ROMs is not for everybody and especially not for the lazy.
/close thread
There are lots of tutorials in the Defy Development area, here's a summary.

Hi there,
How did you install CM7.1? The process should be more or less the same. I have clockworkmod recovery installed on my Defy. You probably should have a look at this thread for more detail. To install this ROM:
Save the ROM file and the google apps file to the root of your SD card.
Reboot into recovery
Wipe everything (data, cache, dalvik)
Install the ROM zip file from clockworkmod recovery in the ususal way
Install the google apps file listed on the ROM page in the usual way
Reboot
It should be as simple as that. What are you having trouble with, specifically?
EDIT: Here's a link to a full tutorial on installing ROMs on your defy!!

[Q] Cannot install Miui port.

For those that want information I've a GSM model and I flashed this upon
.58 Enhanced v2
-Firstly Flash DooMLoRDs ICS Beta Kernel via fastboot OK!
-Boot the phone into recovery OK!
-Perform a Factory Reset OK!
-Wipe cache and dalvik-cache OK!
-Flash the Zip from SD Card in recovery OK
-REBOOT and Enjoy! - Stuck On Kernel Screen / DoomLord Kernel ICS Beta
I'm unsure what to do, all the other roms seem to work well for me.
This rom is built based on KA14 Test Play which does not work for me either, and Cyanogen 9 RC2 is sluggish at games at least for me.
Cyanogen 7 is slow on the menu and all apps always stay in memory.
I just want to add this rom to my collection I.E I make a backup of each Rom and Kernel so I can switch without using a laptop.

Hi , what was your rom before trying to install miui?
It seems so I had two recoveries at that point of which one being the leftover and which is terminated upon forst boot and one in the IcsBeta Kernel. What have I done is used the leftover CWM and that was the error. Anyway I found out this by accident when trying to enter flashmode and I didn't realise the kernel booted. I've flashed this rom using the kernel's touchscreen recovery and that worked for me. Anyway to answer your question it was 2.3.4 stock (.58) Enhanced version v2 anyway considering this is as an ICS ROM I should be able to get to it with any Gingerbread version.

if this root and ginger bread and has set you want CM10.1 making corresponding step. but it and done the ROM manager but it stays flashing flashes 100% and does not advance d there ...
You should install CM10.1 through CWM, so basically you need to ROOT your phone first.
Please be careful. I have a rooted nitro and was on CM10.1 with Wind Kernel with a lot of apps installed. I had several nandroid backups made with CWM latest version.
Since wind over clocks, my nitro got so unstable (bootloop) that I had to go back to the backup.
However, CWM was not able to restore the backup image.
All of the backups did not work.
