[Q] Sony Xperia Play 4G AT&T R800at Problems - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My Cousin got me this Sony Xperia Play 4G At&t from USA.
After a while i started searching about it on the net.
i found some irregularities with my phone,
First of all my phone is Black in color( Isn't At& xperia play 4G supposed to be blue?)
Also i have the order invoice, bill, and the box of the phone all of which are of a&t, even the about phone option in the settings shows it ass R800at
but the phone has Verizon written on the body(on the back cover and in the centre-bottom of the game pad.
i have checked the Imei no of the phone to confirm whether its the same as the bill and it is! can anyone explain it to me as to why it is so?
2nd Problem:
The Front Camera of the phone is not working.
when i open the camera app of the phone,, it shows me the image through the back camera, when i switch it to front, the phone HANGS,after a while i get a POP-UP MESSAGE "The Application Camera has Stopped Working" wait , force close or report,,,,, i waited nothing happened again i got the same pop-up, i force-closed it. next when i open the camera app it shows "Camera Not CONNECTED" .
i went to settings >APPLICATIONS>MANAGE APPLICATION>CAMERA>clear data.
then i restarted the phone and opened the camera app again. the back camera is working but the front camera still shows the same things. I RESET the phone bu the problem still continues. Can Anyone please help me on this .
THIS A PROBLEM VERY SIMILAR TO MINE :
http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/120813
NOTE: I LIVE IN INDIA SO I CANNOT CONTACT AT&T. ALSO THE PHONE WAS BOUGHT ON A NO-CONTRACT BASIS SO IT IS UNLOCKED TO WORK ON ANY CARRIER AND I HAVE NOT UNLOCKED IT OR ROOTED IT OR ANYTHING> IT IS THE SAME AS I RECIEVED.
I DID NOT HAVE THE TIME TO UPLOAD THE PICTURES BUT I SHALL DO THE SAME AS SOON AS GET THE TIME.
PLEASE HELP IT IS VERY IMPORTANT.

If its not blue its not r800AT. AT is only blue im pretty sure.
Why dont you look in settings. See what model it is? .-.

I know that it should be blue. That is why I posted this thread. I checked in the settings it shows r800at and the IMEI OF THE PHONE matches that of the at&t bill

pictures
Attached are the pictures of the bill ill upload those of the phone asap

Phone pictures
As you can notice in the attached zip file. The pics have been taken from almost every angle. They show the phone as black, with a Verizon sign but r800at in the settings >about phone.
I'D LIKE TO MENTION AGAIN IT IS NOT ROOTED NOR DOES IT HAVE ANY CUSTOM ROM.
I hope this helps!

The attachment uploader didn't work so if anyone wants to view the pics please Pm me ill email them over

Certainly is weird.
Just take this; http://www.mediafire.com/?qqvtl484nlz3gq0
and install it with flashtool, should fix everything, maybe they thought it was r800x.

Would it void the warranty cuz I dont want to void my warranty

Nope, its pretty much like restoring an ipod.

Camera Problem
Thanks, I am not that confident in using flashtool so I'll reload the ROM through PC companion .
Now for the second problem . I carefully checked the front camera and found that there is something like foam covering the camera but it is inside the glass casing.
I have taken some pics. I guess they should give you an idea about the problem

Camera Problem
Also please check the attachments I have upload.
For reference purposes I have taken this pic to show that this is a front camera without any problem and nothing covering it.

As you had given me the link of media fire of the stock rom, I just wanted to know whether the phone would get locked to at&t since it was a no contract phone. .you must have seen that in the Bill I uploaded. So I hope it wouldnt get locked. Also wouldn't it be better to wait for the 4.0 update since its already mid March

[q] samsung galaxy note 2 serious issue

Hi everyone. I bought a galaxy note 2 from a friend two days ago and now I cant make calls, use 4g data or send/recieve sms, everything else works (including wifi), let me be as clear as possible as to what happened.
I purchased the phone from my friend 2 days ago and it was working fine. its a Telcel (mexico) galaxy note 2 N7100. I tested the device fully and everything was working, I made calls etc and data was wotking also.
I took the phone home and used a soft damp cloth to wipe the battery cover clean, it was greasy and all note I removed the battery cover from the device. Afterwards I replaced the battery cover, connected to my home wifi and then there was a message on my phone "set up software update' which i agreed to .
I then switched my sim card with a different one( it had call credit on it). and upon powering on the phone, i was greeted with a screen with a small padlock and the words "SIMLOCK". i swiped up and bypassed that screen. MY PHONE WAS SHOWING 4 SIGNAL BARS BUT UPON TRYING TO MAKE A CALL OR SEND A TEXT MESSAGE, I keep getting error messages such as "NOT REGISTERED ON NETWORK".
I have tried every single thing to get rid of this. I even purchased galaxsim unlock from the playstore and it claimed to have removed the simlock but i kept getting that screen with the padlock and simlock message and also no calls or text can be send or recieved. I tred different custom roms, official roms, I tried flashing different kernels, modems etc you name it and still I cant use my phone.
The phone was on android version 4.1.2, now its on the official/rooted 4.3. I read online that samsung may have region locked my phone but this is very strange because my friend was using it for several months. and the issue arised when I took it home. I have never given up on an android device EVER. I have spent days trying and succeeding in unbricking phones but for the first time i actually feel helpless.
I have used so many samsung devices befoe including a galaxy s4 from europe without any problems.
Lasty even when there is no simcard in the phone, THE PHONE IS SHOWING 4 TO 5 SIGNAL BARS ALL THE SAME, IS THIS NORMAL??? also the phone detects the simcard, i can see my contacts etc. The phone can search and detect available networks also but when i try to connect to a network manually it fails to do so, or sometimes it will connect but i still get that message saying network not available.
also the phone only allows emergency calls, but when I try to to dial emergency it says OUT OF SERVICE AREA. Someone please help me if you can

[Q] Disconnected because service is unavailable

Hoping someone can provide some direction. First and foremost I am not a HTC savvy so although there are a few threads here about the same issue none of them relate to me as I have not rooted the phone nor flashed to custom ROMs or anything to that nature. I am simple user of the phone... Now.. to the topic.. so I bought this phone for my brother in law last year as a birthday present, and at the time I had a working phone so I didnt put my mind too much to it.. but I did liked the phone very much. Two months ago, I decided to purchase one of these, so I bougtht an HTC ONE X Phone S720e Android 32GB 8MP 3G WiFi GPS Bluetooth Unlocked White. I don´t recall what versión of Android it carried at the time but looking at the specs it should had come with Android 4.0.3. After loading it up, transfering my files on to it and loading some basic apps, whatsapp, email, Skype... it off coursed asked for a software update two times which I went ahead and did. The last one it installed added Android 4.2.2 and HTC Sense 5. It was working fine, layout changed considerably... now after doing another of the updates to applications and software, specifically the transfer files update it suddenly quit recognizing data services completely. I though it might be something with the micro sim, so I tried testing a couple of others, it didnt make a difference so I decided to back up my contacts and information I had on the phone and did a Factory reset. It wipped it clean but issue remains the sames, it is unable to even recognize the sim card is missing and when I go into settings I see the message Disconnected because service is unavailable.
Reading online, saw a few folks stating that this situation was related to software updates.. so I was wondering if I could get some help on how to get this fixed. Not sure what to do, downgrade to 4.0.3 or how could I get it resolved so appreciate some direction here.
If you go to settings - about - phone identity, does it still shows the imei ? Seen many people here having their imei gone from their phone and becomes an iPod since we can't write it back. Tho you are on stock, so better send it for repair.

It shows up as unknown actually... is this a software related issue then? Im concerned about the other phone going through the same situation... should no updates be installed to it then? That makes it fairly useless and might prefer to send it back and try to get a refund instead.
same problem for me, still wait for fix

replacement motherboard for G4 came with 'hacked' ROM

Hi,
Just something that worries me a lot atm and wanted to ask/alert people about. Probably 'a thing' that everybody knows about (?) in which case .. .well.. carry on, nothing to see here
I ordered a replacement motherboard for my LG G4 (H815) on ebay and the board I got does not seem to have come with the Stock ROM on it although it does appear at first to be stock.
When going through the pre-installed Apps I noticed that there was something odd though : it comes pre-installed with SuperSU (which starts automatically at boot). Even worse : I can't remove that SuperSU either, only Disable it.
When I tried to Unlock the bootloader at LG's website and replace the ROM (something I had done before so I know the procedure) I was told that the IMEI and DeviceID do not match. Replacing the ROM seems to not be an option even though it probably was rooted before to install the current ROM. I haven't tried to flash it with LG Flash yet ... so maybe that'll be the way out.
The more I started thinking about it the more nefarious this seems to me : a replacement motherboard with a locked bootloader that can't be unlocked (the ROM on it is Android 5.1 btw, not 6) which starts a SuperSU service at boot that most people probably wouldn't even notice and which has access to :
- Google Play billing service
- Retrieve running apps
- Run at Startup
- Prevent Phone from sleeping
That service could turn that phone into a zombi and considering that more smartphones than this one are probably in the same state things could get ugly.
What's worse, although I did disable it, there really is no way of really knowing that the smartphone is indeed 'safe'. I'm surely not going to use it for Home Banking atm! But even email or adding a Google account , or using facebook, etc already are things you probably shouldnt do when somebody else may have root on your smartphone..
kind regards,
Benny

Wow that's unfortunate
Maybe try @steadfasterX's SALT utility and see what info it gives you. Also, I assume the IMEI is from the software and not the back of your phone (e.g. the one from your previous motherboard)

hi, Thanks, I'll have a look at Salt Utility. Got the IMEI from the OS, not the sticker. It's actually not just the mobo that I replaced. This G4 is 'lego-ed" togheter from parts sourced all over the place so do not have the original housing I have a second, unlocked G4. This one was supposed to be my backup. Maybe the unlock simply fails because somebody else already unlocked it before - not sure if they could relock it afterwards , maybe they used Salt and didn't unlock...
Thanks for the response.
Edit : Come think of it, maybe the Device ID is not only dependant on the Motherboard but calculated from information gathered from other parts in the system as well like the screen , cameras, sim card reader ... who knows :-/ Might not be able to unlock any LG when any of those unknown parts is replaced.

. As long as you talk about the device ID displayed in fastboot it is coming from your mainboard and can't be changed. if you talk about the Android device ID it's generated by the ROM and that one can be changed easily

I'd be interested to know whether the IMEI and device model from SALT match the values displayed in the OS

Question Fingerprint and Camera issues

Hello, I'm new so sorry if this is a badly written post
Recently I got a unit that was preflashed with global rom on a CN device. The fingerprint sensor and camera both stopped working the day after. The camera made a weird clicking noise when I'd use it and the fingerprint scanner kept saying "Finger moved too fast. Slow down and try again." I've attached some screenshots below though I don't know if they'll be helpful or not.
I unlocked the bootloader and reflashed the WW ROM with the guide here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...e-6-can-be-used-for-cn-ww-converting.4474383/
The flash went fine and I managed to also root with magisk and get the asus module to get rid of the noficiation but the fingerprint scanner and camera are still non functional.
I assume that somewhere along the line I've either fried something or I messed up reflashing the phone. Any help is appreciated since this phone is about 2 days old as of this post date. Thanks in advance!
Edit1: I have my bootloader unlocked. sorry I forgot to mention! I also restarted the device and my fingerprint started enrolling for but a moment and then gave me the same error halfway through again. So I don't think the hardware is broken.
I have the same issue fingerprint and camera , i think this is software issue when convert cn>ww
If someone have solution help us cause aliexpress seller don't know anything
I've been suffering from the same for 1 month, I've done several tests and so far nothing has worked.
For me it started in the rom that came and I updated it thinking it would come back and I don't see any other way but to send it to the store and ask for an exchange.
But I'm curious, is it the same batch? because for weeks I've been looking for someone with the same problems and only now that I see it, I don't know if I'm happy or more worried.

If there's any way I can help then just pop me a message and I'll see what I can do. I also want this fixed since they both worked fine when I got the phone.

I talked to the seller, bought from the official store and he asked to send the cell phone to solve the problem.
I showed the print of this topic to let them know that the problem is not just me.
And I've tried everything to solve it and I haven't been successful, I just have to send it.
