Heads up AT&T has Lumia on backorder. - Nokia Lumia 900

Placed my order on Monday by phone with AT&T was told I would receive my new Lumia by Thursday. Checked order status online and kept seeing that the order was processing. Called AT&T and was told today that the phone is on backorder and there is no date listed for when it will be back in stock. Thought I would let you guys know since the website shows it in stock and lets you place and order.

that's a good sign. Maybe they had tons and sold out, or they didn't order enough and demand was higher than anticipated.

or they pulled the stock to be ready for the new ones. Nokia doesn't really want to give away free phones till the 21st unless they have to....ya think?

Ah true..... but there seems to be a shortage in Canada as well. Maybe for same reason ? Pre-orders are shipped but some stores are telling me "on back order" and it's going to be "at least 7-10 days".

Incorrect, because if their ordered before the 22nd, backorder or not even if you receive it after that day you'll get the credit

Are you sure about that? Since you can get the credit even if you don't purchase from AT&T, it seems like they wouldn't be using the purchase information to determine eligibility.
Also, I doubt AT&T's giving up any profit from the Nokia rebate. Remember, there's a lot that the carrier is subsidizing (i.e., paying Nokia) that we rarely see. I suspect that's the same, and Nokia's just covering the $100 we did pay.

I was thinking along these lines....they don't run your card until the device ships....so....depends on when they run the card????

I bought the last one at the AT&T store I went to... and while I was there, another nearby store was asking them to send the one I seconds earlier bought. Seem to be in demand around here.

I may be remembering wrong...but didn't you send a preorder back?

From AT&T
"Nokia’s Lumia 900 sales have exceeded expectations.
In fact, sales have been so good some stores have sold out of the device—particularly the blue variety—by Tuesday evening, only the second day of general availability."

I'm sure about this, before you order it from your local COR location just ask if your worried. This phone is pretty amazing, and the OS is fluid

no... I did cancel a preorder a while ago because I was unsure, but never returned one.

I suspect there is a high degree of spin control going on here.
If Nokia and AT&T have any common sense they are holding back on shipments until they get the data issues resolved. There is little point in shipping units that are going to frustrate a significant chunk of customers, especially when you are trying to re-establish yourself in the smartphone market. A smartphone without data is a dumb-phone.
Add to that the fact that they have offered to exchange existing units for fixed units and they are going to need a bunch of phones in order to handle that exchange promptly without further frustrating people.
Honestly, I'd be surprised if AT&T was shipping ANY Lumias at this point. You can call that a "back-order" but I'd call it a shipping hold.

Nokia to give $100 credit for data connectivity issues

Everyone who bought and will buy the lumia 900 by April 21st will get a $100 credit in their AT&T bill
http://conversations.nokia.com/2012/04/11/putting-people-first/
Does this applies to Rogers ?
Info from the comments:
Q: What about customers who got it without a contract??
A: (Phil at Nokia) No need to have a contract, just as long as you have service with AT&T.
Q: I was planning on getting two more Lumia 900s tonight for my family (I got mine yesterday). Will the reimbursement apply to all three purchases (3x$100)
A: (Jeppe @ Nokia) Yes
Q: Are the new Lumia 900 with updated software already in the stores
A: (Jeppe @ Nokia) We don't have an exact date for when the updated phones will arrive in stores but any phone can be updated when the new software arrives on or around April 16th
Q: Does this extend to those of US who purchased our Nokia from Amazon Wireless
A: If you bought it with an AT&T service plan, you don't have to do anything. The $100 credit will automatically be applied towards your account.
Q: When and How do I get the software update?
A: (Jeppe @ Nokia) We're expecting the software update to roll out on or around the 16th through Zune on Windows and Windows Phone Connector on Mac.
I didn't care about Nokia, one way or another until I got my 900. I fell in love with it immediately! Then I see how they have support setup to help school new people on the OS. Now you find out that they own up to problem, sending out a fix promptly (or offer to swap phones), and also giving back $100 to make amends. These guys just earned a new, loyal customer.

Nice swift response by Nokia. Kudos to them!!
So an off contract 900 now costs $349??
Go figure. For at least the last 2 yrs we've had to beg and beg for info and rollouts of update, not only on AT&T, but every carrier. Now Nokia comes out and does this. Bravo.
Sign me up for the Nokia WP 8, and Tablet, sight unseen. People need to support a company willing to support them.
Most of the comments are saying a credit with 60 days on your AT&T bill. I still haven't seen an official memo stating this is also for the off contract ones as well. I'd be all over this.
Imagine bundling this offer with the free accessories offer. One of the best launched offers in recent years.
This is exactly what an OEM should do. They owned up to an issue on some phones and got a fix taken care of and even thos eof us who donet have the issue benefit from it. This is why so many of us were looking forward to Nokia releasing their Windows Phones. This is what builds customer loyalty.

What I don't get is how Nokia is getting this pushed through so fast, yet those with older phones that didn't force update are still waiting for the patch Microsoft has had out for months to fix the on screen keyboard and other security issues.

I think if you think too hard about it, you'll just get pissed. Nokia is not stupid. I would wager they had something in the contract that allows certain things to be upgraded or updated without approval from anyone. A test pass at AT&T may take several weeks. So, if, IF, IF, they get this out next week....we can annoint them as Gods. Otherwise....we better hold off on sainthood.

Same here, would like to know this as well.
I believe this credit is only for AT&T customers. It would be applied to the monthly bill, not actual cash credit I presumed.
I'm one of those unlucky few that can't connect to the data network at all. Tried all the soft/hard reset. No luck.
Now I feel left out
I just switched to AT&T in December but if they let me upgrade to the Lumia, I would strongly consider it. I like Android but something about Windows Phone appeals to me. It just seems like a smooth OS.

Been looking around for the answer as well. I'm on contract but ages away from my upgrade. I'll happily take one for full retail but I want the $100 credit. So far nobody has come through with an answer.

[Q] AT&T Preorder Problems?

Thought I might ask here, am I the only person not able to order this phone? After two days, and hours on the phone, whenever I place my pre-order, I get a confirmation email...and then seconds later, I get a cancellation email. You can't pre-order this over the phone or in stores...is there some special number I don't know about, to call and get this issue resolved? I've literally had an AT&T service rep tell me that they will just continue to cancel my order, and I'm out of luck.
I've thought about trying with bestbuy, but I have unlimited data, and Bestbuy (online) doesn't give an option to upgrade to the unlimited LTE add on.

I had the same problem Oct 25, as I was ordering 2 Notes, one full price and one for my wife with 2 year renewal. I also spent an hour on the phone, ATT couldn't figure it out. I finally thouhgt I would order one at a time. First I ordered the full price Note and received a confirmation email, then I ordered my wife's with discount for the 2 year contracrt, again confirmation. This time, it worked, so both ordered and confirmed for 11/6 ship date. Now if you were ordering only one, no idea, but finally worked for me by ordering only one at a time.

Yeah, I'm only ordering one. And I'm not going to risk being charged 700 dollars, when I'm trying to upgrade at the discount price. I see a few other people have had the same problem, but there aren't any solutions posted. Unfortunately, ATT just says to wait and buy it in a store, which isn't an option for me. Long story short, it's a gift and the person buying it is half a country away. And it's bs that I'd have to wait even longer, due to their crappy system haha.

Really makes no sense and I agree with you. Why did I have to split my order to get both, ATT didn't even know.
Good luck.
Having a lot of problems getting the phone as well. Tried to pre-order it online only to have it either give me an error, or give me a *$399* price instead of $299. On-the-phone reps had no clue, told me I could go to a store to preorder it. Store had no clue, said there's nothing in their system about it. "We won't sell out, just come in on the 9th and get it here." URGH. Such a giant waste of time.
Reps told me to come in as well. I asked if they thought there would be a line guy said usually not for samsung. I asked what time they opened he said 9 I said ill be here at 8.

ok. i going to upgrade to Note2 on line2 (my dad line) and use Note2 on my line 1. if i call ATT to cancel data on line 2, will best buy charge me penalty? or are you able to NOT add data on line 2? since i'm going to use Note2 on my line 1.

You'd be doing whats called an alternate upgrade. Basically upgrading your dads line to the note 2 then putting his original phone back on his line and putting the equipment on your line (note 2) if his old phone did not need data before it won't add data. I do these at least once a day with no complications. It's incredibly easy and done more often than regular upgrades are. And you shouldn't have to call and cancel anything. Just have the associate doing the upgrade make sure and show you that your dads original equipment has been returned to his line.
I wish the employees at my lo Al vest buy could figure out how to do an alternate upgrade. I tried to do one last month on my wife's line and none of them could figure it out. I just took the phone to an att store after I left best buy to get it taken care of.

You might have an incompatible rate plan code. Apparently I had an old rate plan with an old code that the instant savings discount didn't recognize. I got all of this info from someone on AT&T live chat. They told me to call Premier and tell them to update the code and that they'll know what I'm talking about. 5 minutes later I was able to get the $100 discount and my preorder was in.

Dumb s? Really now...look at your own GD website. It doesn't give the option to upgrade to unlimited LTE, it just gives the option to not CHANGE anything. It does not clarify if that will upgrade to the unlimited LTE add on.
Look at your own site before *****ing. No wonder no one takes Best Buy seriously lol...
As for everyone else, I got a higher tier customer service, and they can't figure it out. It's basically FUBAR'd. In more detail, they said that the order isn't even making it through. That they, for some reason, don't believe I'm me. So I'll have to take care of it through a bit more complicated way.
Good luck for anyone else trying to order from ATT. I went on their forums, and I'm not the only one dealing with this hassle lol.

Heh, just got off the phone with support. We tried two different credit cards, both are empty not used very often, and it denied both then locked the account. She said I'd have to go to a store to show two forms of id to unlock the account. Yea, their system is ****ed up.
Preordering is a major waste of time. Yet another advantage of not being a iPhone user is not having to order early just to try and get it delivered day 1.
I can see certain situations where you might want to buy online and have it delivered to someone half a country away as a gift, but on the whole there is no incentive to do it.
The phones will be in stock unless their delivery didn't arrive on time. As great a phone as the Notes are, they are still in a fairly niche market. Not many people like the idea of this massive phone. People still freak out when they see me pull my phone out. My buddies will give me even more crap with the bigger screen when I get mine in a few days.
Best Buy handles everything very quickly. If you have a standalone Best Buy Mobile location near you, go there. My experience has always been better there, but that's just my experience. Less lines, less crowded.

That reminds me. I need to call geek squad again. They've been double charging my card for my protection plan every other month or so. I think this will be call number 9 to get them to fix it, again... :silly: Started when my OG Droid's touch screen died, and verizon wouldn't do anything to help me out, so I ditched them and went back to at&t. Got the Dell Streak because the Atrix wasn't out yet. 29 days later the Atrix dropped, so I swapped over to that. They "canceled" the protection plan and started it up on the new phone, but the Streak plan is haunting my account. It just won't go away. The geeks at BB can't do anything, I always have to call their customer support.

Best Buy $200 gift card offer & Verizon

Anybody know yet if full price purchases are included, or upgrades only? No consistent answer from BB yet and not a peep from Samsung. More and more this seems like a "shoot from the hip" effort by Samsung with little thought other than a knee jerk response to try and stem the market-share bleeding due to the iPhone 6 and the iPhone Plus Bendy.

Hi there, @rushless - Please post questions in the Q&A section - thanks.
The $200 gift card only applies if you TRADE IN an existing smartphone. I don't believe it excludes phones purchased at full cost, but I'm not 100% certain.
The gift card is a Best Buy thing, so I'm not sure why you're expecting Samsung to chime in. Samsung is offering their own similar promotion, however. If you activate a new Note 4 and trade in an existing smartphone elsewhere, Samsung will cut you a check for $200 - $(trade in value of phone), provided you send them proof.
Samsung is working with best buy on this one, so we get the best buy $200 gift cert. Instead of the $200 rebate check.
That works for me, since we'll get the full purchase amount on our best buy credit cards, and will earn reward zone credits based on that amount. ($20 on two phones, I I'll turn around and just apply the gift cert. In store as a payment on our credit card once we complete the sale.
The deal only works with a two year contract. That is how the process works and was verified by Best Buy and how their sales system is set up. Samsung regional rep also confirmed that is how Best Buy is doing it.
Samsung also stated that is how it should work for everyone else, but by the way Samsung set the process up for the others, not sure how they can control that. Looks like Samsung is going to have a big cluster
fook on their hands.
So I just got back from BB and I went all through the process and everything was going perfectly AND THEN I get to the very end where they are gonna place the pre-order for my black note 4 for me and the computer would not let them do it... they told me "the system has turned off pre-orders for both the black and white note 4" I asked to speak to a manager and he said he does not know if they hit their limit or if it is a technical problem and he took my info and is going to call me back (unlikely). I cannot see how they could have hit their limit as the girl that helped me told me when I got there that they have not had many pre-orders at all and she was excited to take my order!!! I cannot believe this, I am so pissed off right now... I am going to try another more reliable BB tomorrow morning but I am afraid that the result will be the same.... ;-/ I have not heard ANYONE ELSE having THIS issue.... UNREAL...

I just checked online, and it looks like the preorders are blocked online as well now. could be they are sold out already, which is odd, because our local store has very few preorders.
I wonder if you could preorder at our store and have it moved to your local store?

It HAS to be a technical problem!!! The manager I spoke to said each store has their own separate limit so I really doubt that is the issue here... I am going to be so pissed off if I don't get in on this promotion... the girl that helped me said they literally had like NO pre-orders so far... there is NO way this is a limit issue... Hopefully I will have better luck tomorrow and I will report back..

What is your location??? I tried today at the Deptford, NJ store... I find it weird that it happened to us both on the same day at almost the same exact time... this is leading me to believe it was a system issue and not a sell-out issue... I am hopeful for better results at the Mt. Laurel, NJ store tomorrow...

I'm in Wilmington, DE. The only advantage getting from BestBuy is you get the money right away. We can get the promotion from everywhere because the promotion is run by Samsung, so I'm not sweating. I think BB stopped this globally for Verizon note 4, they removed the preorder option from the website, however, not for AT&T and others.

Verizon note 4 was never on the website for pre-order... i checked every single day for the past 3 weeks, so they did not remove anything, it was never there... and I am still betting on something wrong with the system... I am not waiting for a check from samsung that might not even come for 6-8 weeks, BB HAS TO HONOR THE ADVERTISEMENT CONSIDERING THEY ARE STILL PUTTING THAT FRIGGIN SIGN OUTSIDE EACH MORNING RIGHT NOW. I GUARANTEE YOU I GET THEM TO TAKE MY PRE ORDER ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. WATCH ME.
According to a Samsung chat I had yesterday, the $200 off the note 4 with a old phone DOES work when buying note 4 at full price. Just had a chat yesterday. Best buy did tell me it had to be upgrade but straight Samsung, they said it works full retain at Best Buy.

Full price should work, with caveat
So if you check out the fine-print on the best buy preorder site (can't post the link because I'm a lurker...) it does not say you have to sign a new 2-year agreement. There IS another Best Buy site that indicates "must be eligible for upgrade," but does NOT explicitly state that you have to sign a new agreement. I'll be picking up my pre-ordered full-price (no new contract) Verizon Note 4 tomorrow around noon Eastern, and hope they don't try to insist a new contract is necessary for the $200 trade-in deal (I am eligible for an upgrade, but want to keep my unlimited data). If they do, I'll be calling my state attorney general to complain. I am not a lawyer, but the fine print published online does not indicate a new carrier agreement is necessary, nor does it point to a location where such a statement is made.

Upgrade eligibility means your line is nearing the end of its service agreement and you qualify for subsidized pricing. Both youmention are saying the same thing. The promotion requires a 2 yr agreement and trade in of any working device in the best buy trade in system. I used to work for best buy as a mobile phones sales lead on and off over the years as s part time job.
I traded in my S5 today. Got $245 for it. I paid $250 for it off of Clist 3 weeks ago and got 2 otter box cases, 64GB micro SD card and two chargers so I can sell the cases and the chargers if I want. BestBuy matched Verizon's $699 price and I got $245 off instantly for my trade-in. Walked out the door paying $494. I have mine on the Verizon Allset prepaid plan.
No upgrade or new activation here and I got the $200 off plus they matched Verizon at $699 and the manager told me to keep my trade-in. He tried to pull that BS with upgrade but he changed his mind about 5 minutes later. Out the door at $482

Oh ok. I thought somehow I may have gotten screwed.

[Q] What is wrong with Best Buy?

I am just extremely frustrated with Best Buy for this Note 4 preorder business. I placed my preoder on 10/9. They said when it is here and ready to pick up, we will send you an email. I have not received an email yet, but it has almost been a full week since preorders have been out. (This is specifically in regards to NYC). It baffles me they are not receiving any Sprint Note 4's (regardless if you ordered the black or white version), but they have all the other carriers (with the exception of Verizon). I've been calling Best Buy on the daily to get an understanding as to why the phone has not arrived yet. Everyday is a different answer. I've had one rep tell me it's Samsung's fault because they haven't shipped them out to us. Another rep told me that they do have some coming in but their delivery days into the store are Wed and Fri. Another rep told me we will get them when we get them and just look out for our email.
What is the point of preordering a phone when it doesn't come in and it is already released to the rest of the market? And how do you not give a customer a valid reason as to why the phone is not yet in your store but rather say oh this is a city wide issue? Shouldn't you try to find out as to what is going with the shipment seeing how this is a FLAGSHIP PHONE for Samsung and why is it only the SPRINT version with no delivery? The sad thing is that I used to work for Best Buy about a decade ago, and the service that we gave was better.
Anyone else running into this issue with Best Buy?
Yep. Same issue here with my wife's white sprint phone. I even preordered both the same day as you, the 9th, but I got my black one release day, hers, I get the same exact run around you are getting. It really sucks.

I preordered mine the day preorders opened up and got an email may Thursday night that my phone had arrived and I could pick it up
I placed my pre-order on 09/26/2014 with the ship to home option to avoid the short shipped supplies to the stores. It finally came on Wednesday and I activated it after work. When I went into the store for my price match (I was billed at $349.99 but they dropped it to $299.99), the store manager told me he can't do anything for me because it was an online order. When I asked for my $200 pre-order/rebate via Samsung, he told me that the promotion was changed and it had to be the phone that was on the line that got the upgrade. I told him that when I placed my pre-order, that was not the case and I expect the promotion listed at the time of my pre-order honored. He again told me that he couldn't do anything for me. After several attempts at calling 888-best-buy and remaining on hold for 15+ minutes each time, I just sent an email off to customer service. It's ridiculous how they really screwed the pooch on this whole pre-order process and now are trying to cheat me out of $250! Definitely the last time I pre-order anything from WORSTbuy, maybe last purchase period....
Pre-ordered mine on 10/15, called BestBuy about 30-35 times (from 17 to 22) and as result they change my "expedite" shipping to "express" shipping. Enough for me to receive phone on evening of 22nd.
Every time I called them I heard same crap "tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow" and on 21st I was told that my delivery will be on 20th??? Yes, day before which already passed. WOW, what a service, they deliver into "past time". I exploded and got mine on 22nd as mentioned earlier.
I believe this might be my last pre-order with best buy ever...
i preordered mine the week preorders came available. when i checked on my preorder i found out i don't really have a preorder and have to wait to see if any extra's show up. I have given up calling as that is useless. Im just gonna sit back and wait to see if i can get one if not i guess i just won't upgrade to a new phone. Lesson learned i will never preorder from best buy again i don't care if they give me a million dollars off my upgrade it just isn't worth it.
I'm so fed up with this crap. I suggest contacting your favorite android news sites and imploring them to give this issue more coverage. Maybe then the higher-ups at these multibillion dollar corporations will finally have something to say about why those who preordered still don't have their devices, or even a rough ETA.
I'm in the same boat, as the rest of you.
I've called the store, and the customer service line, every day. It is definitely Best Buys fault. They try to put the blame on Sprint, but I know several people on AT&T, with the same problem. In the AT&T forums, Best Buy, told them them it was AT&Ts fault.
So, as I said a couple of days ago, either AT&T and Sprint, are working together, to sell less phones, and get less people locked into two year contracts, or Best Buy is responsible for this mess.

Why would Sprint not want me to renew my contract? Even if they do away with unlimited data they can still affect that change regardless of my contract renewal, so I'm confused why you're saying that.

I'm agreeing with you. I'm just giving two possible scenarios. One ridiculous possibility, where Sprint and AT&T, are working together, in a conspiracy to sell less phones, and less two year contracts. The other (real) scenario is, it's ALL BBs fault. (BB blames Sprint, when talking to Sprint customers, and AT&T, when talking to AT&T customers). They refuse to acknowledge their incompetence.
I'm in the same boat. And this will DEFINITELY be the last thing. I ever purchase from best buy.
I think they don't want to honor the 200 credit on ****ty phones. The credit is suppose to end Next saturday.
Lets see what happens then. If they extend it or just let it expire then. If the shortage is so bad. Why do other stores
have plenty of stock? It Bestbuy is just screwing us.
Had no problem here with a black Note 4 preorder. They even held it 2 extra days for me while I was at the BABBQ. Not only that but they let me trade in 2 old phones and gave me $200 each, which paid for the 2 years insurance too!!!
Bestbuy screwed up on this one definitely. I ordered my Note 4 on 10-16 and it started off rough. Found out the associate did not update my email address and told me my phone would be available the 17th. I had to gain access to the account called the store and the customer service line friday sat and sun to run around, i dont knows and our next shipments. Finally i got fed up and sent a letter to a corporate member of Bestbuy with my experience and telling them I more than likely would not be buying another phone from them. Its one thing to tell customers hey your phone won't be available until next week up front. Cool i know how it works and backordering can suck. But to tell people paying their money that you just have to wait, we dont know and be patient is unacceptable. Explained the customers are there first priority and are the reason they are successful and deserve communication regardless. Basically, the end story is i'll be getting a gift card in the mail. I also got a call promptly the next morning that my phone was available. Smh.
See i thought this was just me, same issue of pre-ordering on 10/9 except the employee was new and didnt even do the preorder it correctly for me, just charged me for a $50 gift card, found out when i went 10/17 to get phone, have called every day since and nothing now i was reading the $200 trade in is only valid till 11/1?

Samsung promotion had nothing to do with Bestbuy preorder.
Update - So I got an email yesterday morning that my phone was ready to pick-up. You basically have a 24 hour WINDOW to pick up your phone after they email you. How does one set a capped window period to pick up a new phone when the preorders are LATE to begin with? I mean we are waiting and waiting but we could not even be in town when this email comes. I think there is something wrong with that whole system. Anyways, I was lucky that I had a Best Buy Mobile Manager taking care of me. They did honor the $200 credit (after I had to remind him). Purchase Price = $126 (after $200 trade-in) plus some change. The phone itself is a beast (everything from the screen to the materials is awesome). In terms of accessories, I would suggest you guys buy all your **** before and have it ready because Best Buy does not really have many accessories in store. Also, there were issues with activation while in store. The manager called Sprint and they had said that their provisioning services were down nationwide so I had no service for about 4-6 hours. All in all, don't preorder from Best Buy unless you want the hassle. LESSON LEARNED
A while back, just after the Samsung promotion was announced, I fired off an email to Samsung asking them to do something better with an offer at Best Buy. An instant trade in credit on any working smart phone and $50 upgrade bonus on top of that should satisfy most US buyers and leave a lot of others not so fortunate, envious. Had the phones been broadly and readily available and Best Buy chains fully aware of the policies, this would have been a hit that many would have been happy with and look to replicate with repeated patronage. My local BB got it right with some pre-launch dialogue and not so good broad communication on the terms of any working smart phone looked up as $0/recycle. The word was put out to other mobile assistants while I was there, the third person in line. They seemed to have stock and were even trying to get customers the color they preferred. Mileage varies; sorry not everyone got the same or better experience. But to me this was a win and would pre-order there again. I don't think it was all Best Buy's fault. Ample and broad stock may have made this much better of an experience for most. Add it's good to hear that Best Buy is honoring the terms for those in-store pre-orders that were late. Some stores also made exception before hand on terms to satisfy those made online to home delivery because the pre-orders were longer being taken. Cheers and congrats to all who got the terms right. Regards to those that didn't or weren't eligible.

Pretty sure this whole thing is due to best buy overselling the 200 trade in credit. It runs until 11/1. Guaranteed on 11/2, note 4 's will be available for people walking in. Every sprint store in the area has them readily available. This is not just sprint either, best buy has no stock for any carrier and still has not full filled their preorders. At least within 100 mile radius of costa mesa ca. Bummer it was a good deal. Also if your pre order comes in after 11/1 supposedly the 200 trade in deal is out the window, said my local store.

That's my thought. That's why I picked it up at the sprint store.

Best Buy's semi-official stance is that they will be honoring trade in's for all preorders, as mentioned here.
While I don't hesitate to think poorly of Best Buy, this was a multi-million dollar ad campaign - my local stores were slathered in banners, signs, stands, displays, etc touting the $200 trade in FOR PREORDERS ONLY, not to mention the press spreading word (blogs, etc). I can't see how Best Buy could just renege on the the core and only aspect of their advertising, especially after money has already changed hands. Now on the other hand, I think anyone wanting to buy within the extended offer period (non-preorder) will be out of luck, as incoming stock is going to preorders instead and by the time that equalizes the promotion will be over.

Any problems with buying phone outright over upgrade?

Hey everyone - just a quick question. I purchased my phone directly from Samsung, the Verizon version of course and was curious if after it arrived I would have to go into the store to activate it or, if I could simply throw in my old Sim from my HTC. I purchased the n7 outright rather than using my upgrade (saving it for q1 2017).
I'm assuming that I can just pop in the old sim but wanted to double check I wouldn't lose any features/functions from doing so.
Thanks in advance!
As long as the old Sim is a nanosim then yes you can just pop in the new one. Typically the phone will include a sim card with it and you can activate it online or over the phone using another device to activate your Note 7. If you don't feel like going through with the manual activation, swapping it over should work just fine.
Cheers I figure it would be simply! Thanks cad!

I had a slight problem buying outright from Verizon, as I was not upgrade eligible. They would NOT let me pre-order without changing to the "new" Verizon plan. I, too, ordered directly from Samsung, so appreciate your question, and might just switch Sims. Have you had any news on Samsung shipping? It sounds like TMobile is already shipping?

This is something I posted on another thread I had made -- I spoke with about 7 different reps until I finally got this answer:
"I actually called back a couple of times to get some kind of statistical honesty... Yeah I know.
Finally I spoke to someone high enough up the ladder who said, "the only people who know when the phones from Samsung will ship, are the corporate execs. Despite what anyone tells you, only carriers can release early, as the manufacturer, we just wait. However, if you did preorder early, you will get your phone around the 19th as we've been told."
It only took me 5 phone calls to get some honesty... Albeit bizarre honesty. ALL I WANTED WAS TO HEAR 'Hey man, I'm gonna ship your phone on Monday!"
This was after 2 people told me the phones were shipping Mid-September and I was trying to cancel my order to pick one up in store...
BTW I also went with coral blue, ordered on 8/3

Thanks very much. That's what I was looking for. It's like pulling teeth to get anything out of them, isn't it? So it appears that phones ordered from carriers will be received sooner than Samsung orders? Oh well.
Maybe, maybe not.. It's like a magic 8 ball.. I figure well have them this week assuming you ordered somewhat early.

That's BS. You can keep your old plan and put the new phone on device payments. I did it in June when I got a new S7E. This rule was instituted last November to "lessen" the blow of the additional $20 price hike for grandfathered UDPs but applies to all old plans.
Of course my old device was already paid for. If yours isn't, don't know what the deal is then. You may have to pay it off, then trade it in to get a new device and keep your old plan.

I'm on a "loyalty" plan, which has a good rate, and as I understand it, I have a plan commitment, but the phone is free to go anytime - not locked like they used to be. So I was unable to order online (paying full price outright) without accepting the new plan, and when I called in I got the same information - could not pre-order without changing the plan since I was still under contract. You know you can call 5 times and get 5 different answers. Since it was the 19th, I was on hold a long time and someone finally said they would transfer me to someone who could probably do it. By that time I decided to go through Samsung, which I did online with no problem. Like all of us, can't wait to get it!

I'm still on the note 3 and I love it due to the rooting/customization I have, but I think it's about time for an upgrade. I am currently on a UDP line, does the best buy method work anymore or will I have to buy this phone at full price to keep my UDP. I am on a the same bill as a few family members that have an upgrade but they are thinking of switching providers so I'm not sure I can use their upgrade to grab the phone at a discounted price.
If you look at the bottom of the page on best buys website they have a disclaimer about unlimited data.
Also if you buy phone at full price you will not have a issues last I heard.
I didn't preorder. Just went to Best Buy on release day , bought it full retail and popped my sim into the phone. Hassle free.
