Correct. NFC is pretty much the only beneficial feature of the crippled derpbeast known as the SGH-I717 (AT&T Note).

I hope my next gnote, the gnote 2, will have the NFC chip.

From what I understand its possible to implement in a battery or sim card. That way you can retrofit it to older devices.

Sorry don’t confuse NFC Reader/Writer and tag, it’s hardware problem if your device doesn’t have the chipset inside , you can’t read or write NFC, but in opposite you can add a NFC tag on every mobile you want , but the tag must be already write but will not interact with your mobile exemple: you get a NFC tag with you contact information, every mobile or device NFC enabled will be able to receive your contact information but this not coming from your mobile is coming from the tags you get …
I hope i be clear
PS: we work in RFID (let say ancestor of NFC) for more than 5 years

NFC on CM9

Guys,
Although I know that most of you are using P930 instead of P936...
I'm very satisfy with my P936 running CM9-stable. However, is there anyway to make use of my NFC feature on CM9???
Thanks in advance! Appreciated!

Are you sure your P936 has NFC? The ones sold in my country don't; did you have the NFC toggle on stock?
Unless software can somehow magically make NFC hardware exist in a phone, no.
Edit,
@aremcee, I'm betting he links to a website shortly that incorrectly states the P936 has NFC.

Well, he does have the hardware. The only thing he needs to do is pop the back and look at it:

Well, you are definitely correct that it would require NFC hardware in order to make it work. That's why I have just taken out my battery cover and shot a photo as attached...
Correct me if I'm wrong... but isn't that a NFC chip? I'm sort of confused...
Thanks in advance, cheers!

Sorry to disappoint, your cover doesn't have any contacts for NFC. The inside of your phone probably doesn't either.

No, just an antenna placeholder. Look at the photo in the post before yours; both the phone (under the SD) and the backcover have the contacts for NFC to work.
Thanks... just wonder... what the heck is that on the battery cover?
@acremee, thanks for showing the NFC contact

On phones that do not have contacts: one contact is SD-card slot and second is SIM-card slot.
this is my guess

Europe and NFC

Guys,anyone using NFC around europe?
What are the services accepting our GNEX?
I hope to start a useful collection thread.
Well, at least in Germany and as far as I know there are no payment services available.

I think you can use NFC to get Train Tickets. At least i always see these "put-your-phone-here-to-get-tickets-thingys" at the Stations.
Never used it though.

QR-code based. And you need to have an account on bahn.de, with credit card information stored.
(bahn.de (German))
QR is on your phone but to get the Ticket you use NFC

Didn't knew that. I'll definitely have to try that sometime.
You have to have an account though and ad your adress and paying method and all that. I always pay cash for tickets so i don't use it.
Basically you have to use the touchpoint on the trainstation where you start and finish and it generates the prize i guess. Ticket Inspectors scan the QR code on your phone to check the ticket.
Problem is when your battery runs out you are out of luck.

So what now? GT-I9260 is the ugly lovechild of the Galaxy Nexus?

Please tell me you are kidding ?
Google dropped support of hardware button on Nexus, why bring them back. Stats also says it has an SdCard another thing that google removed from the nexus. And finally, dont you think it look more like a Galaxy S III ? This is not next galaxy nexus, well i hope, and if it is, it's an insult. Pretty much like the iPhone 4s vs iPhone 4.
Check your facts please.

Samsung Wallet

Samsung Wallet, Samsung's version of Apple's Passport, looks really promising. I wonder if we'll somehow get it.
From Android Central:
Samsung has announced a new API for developers to help manage event tickets, boarding passes, memberships, and coupons. Samsung Wallet will be a new application which brings all of these types of content into one place. Time and location-based push notifications will help users get a hold of the ticketing information.*
If this sounds familiar, that's because iOS has had this thing called Passbook for awhile which does (and looks like) the same thing. Still, I have a feeling Android will have a leg-up on mobile ticketing since there's still no natively NFC-enabled iPhone out there.*

Agree somewhat.
But I'd mention that Samsung just partnered with Visa PayWave. When Apple partnered with Visa, they were able to do a workaround:
"Apparently, Visa has found a workaround for the lack of NFC phones by embedding the computer chip needed into specially designed iPhone cases instead."
I could see them offering it to Samsung for devices like ours too... maybe?
Good thing the GSM S2 has NFC muahaha
We won't see NFC other than SD cards like what Moneto was making.
I highly doubt any manufacturer will make a case that has NFC for the E4GT this late in the game.

Screw Hollywood anyways, they use our money to try to ruin our collective internet, at this point no one should be giving them any money, it's self defeating. I won't post anything, in the past i was advised not to post petition links, but if you feel like searching for CISPA and speaking your mind it would help everyone out that uses the internet.
Oh and yeah we don't have NFC, so who cares, my main point aside.

[WTF][NEW PHONE] Brand new Galaxy W, Not what you might expect though

The image below shows that Samsung might want to release another device named Galaxy W, however it has absolutely nothing to do with our Galaxy W and I know that our device does have the name Galaxy Wonder but it still creates a (pointless really) confusion.

As I said this 'NEW' Galaxy W has nothing to do with our Galaxy and seems to be more like Galaxy Mega 2 as it has 7 inch screen (SERIOUSLY? 7 INCHES IN A PHONE?!).
There is a chance that the name Galaxy W will only be present in South Korea and it might actually have the name Galaxy Mega 2 worldwide, either way, what do you guys think?
I think they should really pick a different name for it, it's just confusing. That is unless they have some other magical name for it, I'm suggesting Samsung Galaxy Widespread.

hahha! If it names "Galaxy W", I think it will be so ridiculous and confusing. I agree with you.
